Hoping the title will attract the attention of our beloved Bard. :)

I'm going to be compiling an assortment of receipts from the Ice Tribes and the Antislar.  (Not something that will happen overnight, but then, any of you who know me have already deduced that. :P)  I'm open for taking in receipts from other northern tribes as well.  (Hint Azhira, Tharoc and Alysse)

I would like to put them together in a cook book type form like Dame Sausade's Cookery Book, and thought, who else would be better to ascribe it to than the Dame of Deliciousness?  Therefore, I thought why not have this as a sequel to her bestselling first book?

A few titles I have Kicked around are: Brisk Bites, Frozen Fares, Northern Noshes and Icy Edibles.  The subtitle would be Receipts of the North.

My fave so far is Frozen Fares: Receipts of the North.

Therefore, I need Bard Judith's permission to lend Dame Sausade's name to this.  As well, any receipts sent my way would be integrated into the book.  And finally, if anyone has another title they would like to throw out for consideration, I would be more than happy to include it.

One last thought:  Does each receipt therefore need to be blarrowed in the same way as it would if it was its own entry?  Not sure how the Cookery Book was put together.  A chicken and the egg thing maybe.

I had a receipt in the Paxen entry I did. Feel free to use that one if you'd like to :D

Edit: Here it is

Spicy Packox Stew Receipt
Feeds up to three Remusian men, or a family of one Reumusian man, his wife and at least four children

Ingredients
1 od of Packox meat, cubed
3 garlick cloves, crushed
6 varyte, sliced into slender pieces
3 radzish, cut up
3 tuberroots, sliced into slender pieces
15 beans ground into a paste and mixed with pinnip oil and salt
kragghi sap to taste
1 dipper of phummel flour
Red pfepper seeds and sorso salt to taste
Phummel bread (one for each person)
Water

Procedure
1) Hunt down, slay, and butcher your pet Packox ... you know the one, it served your family for many years.

2) Fill the pot with water and add in the diced Packox meat.

3) Add in the prepared garlick, tuberroots, varyte, radzish and beans and bring to the boil.

4) When it is boiling, add in the kragghi sap.

5) Allow to simmer until the meat and vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally.

6) Add in phummel flour to thicken the stew and cook until your family comes running to eat what's cooking and making the delicious smells.

7) Add red pfepper and sorso salt for flavour.

8) Serve with flatbread

'Fare' is non-count, so 'Frozen Fare:  Receipts of the North' (or perhaps the Dame would prefer 'Frozen Fare:  Barbarian Food Rendered Palatable') would be the grammatically correct title.

I love the idea!  May I contribute a few receipts as well?  And I'm sure if you got Alysse's attention she'd have more than a few to offer...

Frozen Fare: Receipts of the North it is then. :)

And of coarse, Judith.  Would it be a true Dame Sausade work if you did not add a receipt or two?  Perhaps I might coax a forward out of you by the time enough receipts have been gathered.

All we need now are some food critics of repute to ascribe that alternative title for. :P

I wonder if - not to detract from this idea - there will actually be enough FOOD in the north to support enough different receipts for the Dame to produce a wholenother cookbook?   Would she not be more likely, after having created a compendium of Santharian Kingdom receipts (based on the wide variety of foodstuffs available in that geographic area and their long trading history), be interested in making a collection of any and all 'exotic' receipts that came her way?

And from an external, developer's POV, would it not be convenient to have one master repository for the odd Nybelmarnian, Orcen, Zepheryne, Shendar, or Isles receipt that people may want to create to add atmosphere to their entries, without having to create separate 'cookbooks' for all of them?

Might I suggest that receipts from within Santharia go to the existing Madame Sausade's cookbook, as they have done so far, and that the sequel be a tome of vaster scope, titled "Caelereth's Bounty - Exotic Receipts of the Known World" (or some equally grandiose title) containing chapters on various other races' and cultures' food?   In which case, your chapter, with the items you have listed so far, would quite justifiably be titled "Frozen Fare: Receipts of the North" and go right in between "Spice and Sand: Foods of the South"  and "More than Brandy: R'unorian Dishes"

A suggestion only;  creating yet another Flash cookbook might be too great an effort for Artimidor, but surely we could make an area in the Compendium to collate such exotic foods.  I would be happy to make it a priority to collect and tabulate them and prepare the 'final' entry, if there is enough interest in other areas.

I'm not adverse to the idea, Judith.  But, I do think you underestimate the amount of ideas that I have for food for the north.  If not, I would not have presented the idea thus.  The stuff I'm putting together here is simply dev notes for what I've mentioned so far.  In RL, I'm a pretty good cook, or at least, I love to cook and I love to eat my own cooking (as do most of my GF's... it's a great way to... well, it works :P).  So, I've been thinking Santh a lot when I cook and wondering what I could substitute for ingredients and cooking methods over a variety of foods.

But, if you want to go in that direction, that's fine with me.  Like you said, it would give a place to put receipts from other areas of Caelereth. :D  And of coarse, any contributions from you, receipts or collation of existing receipts, is more than appreciated. :)

I'm not sure how hard Flash is to learn.  Perhaps Arti could be persuaded to send me the code and I could study it and add to it myself as the book is amended.  If that is possible.

Let's create Sarvonian icecream...or popsicles....  :evil

Some sort of sweet plant sap drizzled on the snow, ala pioneer maple sugarings>?
Fresh snow mixed with icebear milk and a sweetener?  (the Victorians used to make this)
Snow with kao-kao shavings, like the Aztecs?
Crushed ice with red beans, the way Koreans make their pabingsu?

Someone created a snowcone type treat for the Remusians... hmmm... will need to look that up....some type of sweet berry juice drizzled over ice if I recall correctly...

Getting hungry now :P

Edit:  I've found the treat here.  It's the Asén’evathón Plant by Miés´efér Lytherá .

Well, THAT just rolls of the tongue, doesn't it....

Hmm.  Asen-Ices, perhaps?   Asencicles?  (pronounced 'Ah-SEN-sih-kulls', of course)  Berry Snow?  In grim Remusian-style humour, 'Bear's Blood'?  Or does that sound a bit too much like what might pass for a Remusian cocktail drink?

(ducks quickly back behind her desk with a merry grin)

*raises eyebrow*  Oh, I can still see you.

Nevertheless, Bear's Blood does sound suitably Remusian.  One can't argue facts.

Ohh, so far  I thought we Shendar are part of the Santharian Kingdom....  I truly need to come up with some weird Shendar food which Dame Sausade rejected to add to her cooking book!  lol

I thought North recipes were simple:

Kill. Roast. Eat. Repeat.

(Roast optional in some cases...so is Kill for that matter... ;))

I mean...do orcs really have cookbooks??

Well... the cookbooks aren't for the orcs... they'd be just as apt to eat the pages as read them... if they could read them. :P

But, it would give the more adventurous connoisseur in New Santhala a taste of Northern Fare.

"Did you hear about the new chef Viscount Sturgess has?  The Viscount threw a feast last night and apparently they served something called Tlor Zidj  and Porack.  The evening came to a quick end when the Slyggs began crawling off the plate!  How barbarous!  Scandalous even."
