MOON - The moon rises in the East...or not?
«
on:

Result:
The moon rises in the North-West!
***************************************
Well, that's the question! does it rise in the East, as the sun, or in the West? Independent of his other behaviour?
A first collection of ideas. What could it mean for the people, for a myth or another?

essentially the question here is "who gets the title of Land of the Rising Moon?" looking at the map, if it rose over the west, wouldn't Nybelmar be closest? i think i vaguely remember the "Vikh people of the drifting woods therein having particular respect for the moon. so that might fit?

I think it would be interesting if the moon were to rise in opposition to the sun. I remember a Shakespear quote that I would think rather appropriate. "The Moon's an arrant thief/ And her pale fire she snatches from the sun" while our moon is male it would be interesting to have such an association to use.

I'm a bit confused - Isn't the moon rotating in a 90D axis to that of the disk, on the western side? So if the moon lies to the west of the Disk, how can it rise in the east?

@ Coren:
The moon is moving in a plane parallel to that the sun's orbit (take a stationary orbit) at the northern side of the disc. This plane is as far away of the edge of the disc as the plane the sun's orbit is 'creating' in spring or autumn. Both orbits have a diameter of two Caels (taken the numbers of the model), so the moon would rise not in the East, but North-East - or Northwest. Was simpler to write - our sun does not rise exactly in the East either, depends on the latitude-
@ Valan: Our moon doesn't snatch light - not in the dev- view, but is luminous, but for a myth that might work well.

I support the West (moon is in the North however as stated above), as it is in opposition to the sun, and that's what gives it its own agenda, contrary to the sun. And that's always good in a world where we get a lot out of antagonism. So this is one aspect that stresses this.

I say West, because I always enjoy agreeing with Altario.

The "Vikh don't really mind either way. From their geographical point of view, the moon always rises and sets in the ocean.

The moon circles not clockwise around a planet. I think it would be better that the moon rises from the west, and the sun to the east.

Our world is a disk, Perab, not a sphere (planet). And as we are the developing gods, we just say: "Moon, you will rise in the west from now on!" , or where ever we want. (within reason

Oh. So does that mean I can't have the moon rising from my cupboard?
*is slightly disappointed, but will live*

That more or less depends on whether you mind up placing your cupboard a few thousand strals off the disk or not..

The moon rises in the North-West!
As it is not moving away from the disk as the sun does, it rises/sets for a given place always at the same point/direction .
I need a better description.
Its orbital path cuts the horizon always at the same point. Does that make sense?
Do you know, what I mean?
