For Azhira, who offered me a gnome to draw... Waudrin would appreciate your comments on his appearance!

 rolling

It's my Waudrin Ghortz! So arrogant with that charming smile and that "you expect me to believe that?" kind of glare. Ha! He appears just how I described him. He's middle aged, but doesn't look it. He wines and dines his lackeys who believe him to be something of a "rebel" against the established scholarly world. He's famous for being famous - not famous for being astute. And that gaudy banner behind him - wow, so full of himself.

 :D

Let me offer a few things as between my giggle fits:

- Can his robes be livened up a bit? Maybe some gold trim?

- Hrm...that mousy little moustachio doesn't do it for me. Maybe only have his beard with a clean lip? I think the moustache makes him look younger than he should be.

- Perhaps a framed picture of a creature/demon in the background hanging on the arch. It would give some indication of Waudrin's background as a demonologist. OR! A stack of books piled high in the background (titles he himself wrote, of course - as mentioned in the entry).

Overall, a wonderful pic, Bard. It captures Waudrin's oh-so-pseudo-serious scholarly image with a charm and appearance that also brings people to like and listen to him. How can you not be jealous of Waudrin at parties when his gets all the glory while serious researchers who toil away in real work get little notice?

He's great!  I love the expression.

Two minor nitpicks--would he have so much hair?  By middle age, most of them have lost their hair completely.  Does he wear a wig?  (Now that would be funny.)

There is something a little odd about his left cheek.  I think the roundness needs to be higher on his face, he looks a little lopsided.

But the technical details are beautifully realized here!

Aura + 1 from me!

Oh man, I like it... That's brilliant.

As an arrogant man myself, I can relate to that smile, and the casually raised eyebrow is just... augh! Amazing.

Tops work, there.

I agree I think he looks great.  The thing that I really like about your portraits is the feeling of character in the face.  You really get a feeling of what this guy is like just by looking at the picture. (Maybe that is unfair and I shouldn't judge him by his looks  grin)  Well done.  thumbup

Question:  How did you do the lettering on the banners?  Is it a brush? Did you draw the letters on your own?  undecided

I suppose he's one of those gnomes who uses youth skin cream and dyes his hair?  cool

I hated having to put so much hair on, myself - he looked so great with a bald pate - but the description clearly said 'with a full head of black hair' which he brushes over to the side.  Hence I had only a little artistic license to show the thinning at the part....

And I was unsure about the moustache myself!  The beard, rippling over the three chins, was perfect, but the moustache somehow....not...  so he'll shave next time you see him.

Personally, I was very happy with how the mouth turned out - teeth are tricky - but I tried a new technique and like the realism achieved.

Seeker, actually the letters are dog-easy cheatin'.... I used the Black Chancery font to type the W and the G.  Then I used Transform on the G to move it in overlapping and down from the S.  Then I copied the resulting 'monogram' onto each banner as a separate layer, using Transform again to get the different scale and slight tilt for each banner.  Once the whole picture was done and saved flat as a JPG, I went over the edges with a bit of Blur and Dodge/Burn to blend them into the banner fabric a bit more.

Oh, and this guy's face is an Easter Egg of the largest magnitude!   I will give you all a hint:  He's a well-known North American politician.  Searching for 'jowls' may well help you discover who my reference picture was ....

Right, here's our shaven gnome.  He has also had a bit of work done around his eyes and cheeks (thanks, Alysse!) and some very fancy gold embroidery on his tunic (note, my dear Az, the subtle nod to his hobby....).

*buhaha* rolling rofl

I only just saw your "devilish" addition to the picture, Judy, and nearly fell off the chair laughing!  grin Subtle nod to his hobby... *hihihi* And I guess our Waudrin has to be McCain inspired - that is quite obvious I'd say.

Anyway, just wonderful picture you've made there - I love those details like how he has his hair combed, then all those flags in the background, the expression on his face, and that tunic is just the absolute highlight!

Aura +1, simply a perfect representation of a personality only Waudrin Ghortz can have!  thumbup

Oh, you guessed it, square on!   But really, the poor man - coming up first on Google in a search for 'jowls'....sad, isn't it?

Anyhow, I enjoyed making this picture, so thanks to Az for the original idea.  Hope she sees it today and approves the shave.... :)

Yes, shave approved! Waudrin certainly looks very dignified in those demon embroidered robes! lol I never expected to see that, but I like it alot. The guy has so much character, it's crazy that anyone would even think to listen to him.  :D So yup, a big thumbs up from me, Bard. Thanks for bringing my favorite scholar to a bigger than life portrait.

Bard you made some sort of comment a while ago about being jealous of how many picture I have been able to produce.  Well you certainly seem to be increasing your picture production lately.  With some complex high quality stuff I may add.  thumbup

I imagine we draw at the same rate, I just may be spending more time per week than you.  So if anything, be jealous of how much free time I apparantly have. grin

Ah, too bad that internet is so restricted in China, Ferra. Can't be much fun surfing the web that way if Big Brother's watching you... Hope you enjoy your stay nevertheless!

Hi, dear Arti and other developers!

This year I am in China and cannot use any Google services including YouTube. For this reason I stopped uploading new Nepris videos. I can also not read any comments there.

It just crossed my mind that this information might be useful to you.

Cheers
