Challenge to Kh'omchr'om experts: a name for a Volkek-Oshra?
«

Hi there,
and special greetings to all compendiumists who fancy they know a bit of orcish!
I am in need of a name for a Volkek-Oshra orc, and would appreciate suggestions. The name should be composed entirely in Kh'omchr'om, should be translatable into Tharian (ie, have a meaning) - and does NOT need to be entirely serious. (But beware that the name 'Pony-rider' has already been taken.
)
Your reward for a good suggestion: your invention will become a part of the currently-in-work-but-soon-to-be-released Santhworld adventure "Mysteries of Nepris - Part II". A non-player character (no protagonist, but not unimportant either!) will bear the name invented by you!
Any ideas welcome!
Shabakuk
PS: The name
could
usefully include elements like 'bone', 'tooth', or 'head' - but doesn't need to. No bounds for your creativity!

Volkek-Oshra is actually a Kh'omchr'om word, but it has no Tharian translation that I know of. In fact, I don't think any of the orcen tribes have Tharian translations.
This is really something for Alysse to consider because she is the resident orcen language expert. Bell ring her. She should be around now with stable internet!

A-ha... Always fun to know in which direction Shabakuk is thinking in order to put something into the game. Lucky me I'll know details before you'll see it...

I love coming up with names for things and people!
I'm a bit handicapped by not knowing a few details such as gender, age, magical ability, or inclination, but here are some traditional style orcish names and approximate translations:
M'ruk'zuck--translates as "fanged warrior"
Ph'ragh'goruck-- " rock [like] shield bearer" --implies determination, courage and fortitude. Could be shorted to "Ph'ruck" (yes, I CAN hear all you evil-minded little Tharian humans sniggering! ) to his (her?) close associates, much like "Tom" for Thomas or "Nick" for Nicholas.
Ashz'haz--"noble guardian"
Losh'uon--"true seer", "visionary" or "prophet" -good name for a shaman, for instance.
Khq'al'on-"distance fighter" (ie, fights from a distance with magic rather than traditional orcish weapons.)
Although there is no clear definition for Volkek-Oshra, I would imagine it would be something like "magic-using orc" or "orcen mage". With that in mind as a definition, you could possibly build a name off of that, like, say,
Khq'olkek or Khq'oshra--one who fights with magic
Any of these strike your fancy, Shabakuk?

Thanks, Alysse! I thought you were likely to come up with something.
As to the individual I'm needing a name for:
Gender: male. Age: undetermined. Magical ability: present. Inclination: a bit of a gourmet.
I like the sound of M'ruk'zuck. Imagine Monsieur M'ruk'zuck introducing himself to a hobbit. I bet the well-meaning little fellow would feel inclined to say: "Bless you, I'm sure!"
Would Volkek-Oshra orcs have a first name and a clan name?
For the clan name, I was thinking of Ph'rag'ong (Stone-chewer) - or is that too silly?

I think "Stone Eater" is kind of a cool clan name. So then you'd have the Fanged Warrior of the Stone Eater clan, or M'ruk'zuck of Ph'ragh'ong. An "epic" name, as my children would say.

I called my Volkek Oshra Phlegah Spirin ... I don't know what that means, or even if it means anything

The Osther-Oc have a clan that live at the base of the Caaehl called the "Inuk" (lit. "rock"). Of course...that could be a different dialect coming from the old orcen language of the Caaehl'heroth orcs me thinks.

M'ruk'zuck Ph'ragh'ong it is. Thanks Alysse! I hope our apprentice orc M'ruk Loshashzuck doesn't mind the similarity.
Anyway, it's such a shame that few people will ever meet M'ruk'zuck Ph'ragh'ong, as most will perish on the way, caught in one of Sage Federkiel's devious traps!
Azhira, keep those Inuk in mind in case we ever get to take Santhworld to the Caaehl'heroth!

Perhaps a Santhworld adventure starring Reve'lor collecting animals for his menagerie or Eleanna Kalrinwenens, the gnome botanist collecting specimens?
I mean, consider all the monsters up there already...apes that throw exploding poop at you, spine wyrms, and the Mists themselves, among others.
And there are some lovely illustrations already, too.
