Would there be things like light houses and marker buoys on Caelereth? By marker buoys, I mean something that would show ship captains where sand bars and other similar underwater dangers to ships are located.

I am not a sailor myself, in fact, I get sea sick quite simply (even when walking over bridges) so any explanation would need to be rather simple ... I'm not even sure if things like marker buoys exist in our world for what I'm asking ... if they are called something else on Earth, would they be in use in Caelereth?

While I'm at it ... I also gather that a magnetic compass is not possible for Caelereth?

Many thanks

As for the magnetic compass, I think if we Santharized it and detailed it enough, it would help enrich this site just a little bit more.

Come to think of it, if no one else gets around to making an entry on naval navigation soon, I might just do that myself (I know it would add some color to my ideas about Denilou).

Light houses exist for sure, they are regularly mentioned in Compendium entries, that idea is pretty old. Don't know when marker buoys have been invented, but they can exist - why not? I assume that idea is also nothing new to people navigating on ships.

The concept of Alsetism (the Santharian version magnetism) we've already talked about (see discussion here and here), though it hasn't led to an entry on the site yet. But I'd say it's pretty much how magnetsim works in Santharia. - With other words: Magnetic compasses exist in Santharia, though they work differently.

I don't know if the exact details on how magnetism works are of relevance to what you try to do with that information, Dek, but as far as Eight Winds Bay is concerned I'd say that compasses go wild there, due to the heavy magical influence.

Lighthouses are mentioned in many entries, as they exist in many coastal towns (such as Naurooth). I wouldn't think elves navigate by compass. One would think they have some special ability to read the skies/weather/water ripples etc to know where they are going lol Something tells me they wouldn't rely on such trinkets, being elven and all.

Other places would play havoc with compasses as well: Tak'Dinal, the Mists, maybe the Thaelon Forest. All have heavy magical influences so don't get lost there!

No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith. And that, I fear, for any reasoning, conscious being, would be the cruelest trick of all.

The compasses was more of an after thought by me, as were the light houses to some extent ... it was mainly marker buoys I was interested in :D

Thanks for your help.

Alsetism? That sounds really interesting, especially since it has to do with magic?

Ah, too bad that internet is so restricted in China, Ferra. Can't be much fun surfing the web that way if Big Brother's watching you... Hope you enjoy your stay nevertheless!

Hi, dear Arti and other developers!

This year I am in China and cannot use any Google services including YouTube. For this reason I stopped uploading new Nepris videos. I can also not read any comments there.

It just crossed my mind that this information might be useful to you.

Cheers
