Hi all, I've been throwing an idea back and forth up here in my little hut in Silvern (btw ... it has just been spring cleaned, so a perfect place for an upcoming member inauguration, if you like, Art) and have been very impressed with the young page of the Compendium, name of Jepprek, that has been sent north to assist me with my research in return for shelter, food and training in research/writing/reading etc. So I got to thinking ... is there any entries dealing with the lives of the Compendiumist ... I mean, there must be some kind of process of getting chosen, of going through the ranks to that of Apprentice, and then actually within Santharia going to places to research for the masterwork and so forth. Kind of like, initially, they are doing things around the compendium, then on field trips with more experienced researchers, then by the time they get to apprentice stage, they get more of their own work to do, until eventually they get approved to go and research something of interest to them. Which then gets them to the rank of Member ... kind of an in world thing of what we as developers do. I've got some ideas on it ... but didn't want to get too far along with it, in case
1 there was something already done along these lines,
2 someone else is planning to do something along these lines, or
3 this is a dumb idea and wouldn't have a chance of getting up.

Anyway there it is ... any thoughts?

I remember back when I first pitched the flash-game walk-through to Arti, the version was based within the compendium. The user would travel down the corridors and enter the rooms of compendium researchers, talk to them, and they in turn would talk about their research, what sort of work they did... So in that regard I can totally understand and appreciate your idea Dek ^^ wonderful! It never took off though, so it's just a strand of ideas that are out there, scribbled on a fading piece of parchment on my working desk. If you're going through with this though I'd be delighted to help out and pitch in.

My idea was based on the idea of having each of the established members describing their studies, how they've customized it to fit their work, how they've decorated them. This could then be presented in written or drawn format, and it would give the newer aspiring members a wonderful insight into the possibilities and opportunities the Compendium holds, all of this in an entertaining format...

I realise this sort of deviates from the more factual and structural aspect you were describing above, but thought it might be worth mentioning this idea ^^

I've got a little side project with a similar bent you might enjoy Dek, I might even need your expertise.

Concerning your Compendium idea, Dek: We only have a story by Agran dealing a bit with a Compendium mission ("Bandits"), and a few People entries of members dealing with the subject, but of course only in a cursory way.  Don't know exactly what you plan, though - an entry (with what kind of subject precisely?), or more of a narration, even something interactive is possible as Jonael suggested. So far your idea is very rough, but it definitely would be great to see something in this respect.

Concerning the hut in Silvern - we could use it for the inauguration... But as I don't know anything about this hut, maybe you could start off the inauguration (as soon as you have time) by describing things a bit there, and then members can arrive.

ok .. I'll get it started, Artimidor :)

and I'll put together something with a bit more detail of what I'm thinking for this proposal.
