Hi! Jacob Peace here. I'm sort of an idiot at site navigation (as Artimidor discovered from my Guestbook post. I couldn't figure out how to register, which doesn't bode well)! I'm from Ravenport, about to enter the academy at Ximax as a first year student in the Wind Mage program. I have a special interest in healing magic, with an emphasis on healing emotional disorders.

I hope that my Masterwork can be the journal of a new student at the academy, detailing the education and everyday life of student. I have a great love of animals as well, so Bestiary entries could be an excellent starting point for me.

Welcome Jacob.  We could use some new student mages in the Ximax Academy.  grin

My name is Seeker,  I too have attended the Ximax academy.  However I would warn you against the wind academy.  Fire is where you will find the real power.  ;)

Anyhow I hope you find the compendium welcome.  We can always use more beasts and plants and things of that lke.  Those are easy things to start with.

Thanks, seeker. I have great respect for fire mages, but feel that wind magic is more suited to my particular interests and talents - such as healing and telepathy. I appreciate the warm welcome, and look forward to learning from those who have walked the path before me, such as yourself.

Don't worry about the registering problem, only the persistent make it through, and as you're here it looks like you've actually made it :) So good to see you! Just have a look around on the site and the Forum, and think about where you might fit in with a first idea you'd like to make into an entry. Magic is definitely a bit though for a starter, but I'm sure you'll come up with something... ;) Welcome to Dream!

I look forward to the process. I like writing and am an avid fantasy reader, so this seems like a good fit for me. I noticed that the Bestiary is short on birds, so I'll probably start there. "Companion animal" birds could be interesting. I realize I'd have to work up to the student mage's journal, and that it will take time and a lot of research before I'm ready for it. I'd also like to enter a detailed profile of Jacob asap.

Well we have 50+ birds under the Animals, Flying submenu, but we can always use more.  Your comment made me think perhaps your not looking in the right place.

I like the idea of companion birds.

Hello Jacob, and welcome! It's true we have a fair few birds, but seeing as you were interested I couldn't resist popping in to note that we have lots of hawks and falcons and eagles, but not many smaller, common birds for them to eat, so if you were inclined to make something that also filled that niche it would be brilliant. Of course you don't have to, but as (prompted by Jonael) I've been trying to notice gaps like that lately, I felt I should mention it. Look forward to seeing your work!

I'm having trouble getting this reply to post. Guess I'll just keep trying. I saw the birds in the Bestiary on my second look. Don't know how I missed them. Didn't see many companion animals, though, so I'll see what I can come up with. Will also try to come up with new songbirds, which would work as prey species.

I researched the 20 members of the perching bird family, and found that 9 of them are kept as pets - 11 if you count the Quwish, which is trained and used by entertainers, and the Wynd Racer, a 2 headed dove used for carrying messages. It doesn't look like Caelreth needs more pet birds. I think there has been too much emphasis on things bright and beautiful, and too little on the dull and ugly. A quick look didn't turn up any serious scavengers, except the corbie crow. This is an important niche that needs to be filled, unless I've overlooked them. I've only given the birds of prey a cursory look, so far, but am thinking seriously about developing a Santharian vulture.

Files have been replaced again, but the question remains how long this will last. SMF support will have a look at the security problem.
