Eight legs? Nooo... Where is the spider? Besides, nine means completion (one to nine, you know). Also, 666 reduces to nine (6 + 6 + 6 = 18; 1 + 8 = 9). No?

Fine, do it your way. Please send me a mental hug, though.

These Great Covens are also referred to as the “Eight Legs of the Spider”.

Witches, for their part, have a different explanation again. The world exists, they say, because Harash spins it. Harash – that is the Great Spider, the Spinner of the World Web.[1] It is a being both male and female, beautiful and ugly, wise as a whale and dumb as a pebble. The witches believe that all the world we see, hear, smell and feel is made of threads woven by Harash. The witches call these threads “dream threads”, because in our everyday lives, we are unable to see these threads themselves, but instead only illusions, “dreams” conjured up by them. This may be a bit complicated to understand, but a simile often used by witches to teach novice witchlings may help to make things clearer.

Well, but it is Mr Anfang's entry, so talk to him. But it will be quite difficult, to give Santharian's spiders 9 legs I'm afraid...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Sparkle.

Charms and divination spells are perfectly doable within the Santharian witchcraft that is on site. In fact, we have a divination spell already: Finding Charm. Charms, in the way you describe them, could well be made by the needle witches, the chisel witches, and probably witches from other covens, too. So there's nothing that prevents you or anyone from submitting a proposal for witch charms.

But no, I don't intend to add another coven. I like the eight legs of the spider. Eight stands for infinity. That fits better for Santharian witches. They ain't got no business with no biblical beast. :)

The laws you mention; yes, I am aware of them. You probably know that James Frazer described two of them (contagion and similarity) in his Golden Bough as the principles on which all folk magic is based? Not that he was necessarily correct ... Anyway, it was partly with these laws in mind that I developed the idea of the 'dream threads'. You can read about it in the witchcraft magic entry. The dream thread theory is, so to speak, the Santharian witches' explanation for why it is, for example, that people retain a connection with the clothes they once wore (law of contagion), etc.

Anyway, I'm sorry that some aspects of Santharian witchcraft disappoint you. I think every developer here could name an entry or concept where he or she thinks: "well, I would have done that differently". No reason not to share mental hugs, though - I totally agree! :)
