Hi Gnoms and other knowing people!

Do we have something like chloroform in Santharia? Something which you can give somebody shortly before an operation, or during birth, if it is too painfully? Should not last too long though.
I know we got something somewhere, but I don't know where to look exactly.

Hi Ta'lia! Here are a few suggestions for soporifics that might suit your purpose:

Trancedrink, made from the Queprur's Love mushroom, puts humans into a trance/stupor for half a day.
Vaninen from the erinun bush causes stupor and vivid hallucinations.
Tyrscaru green bladders contain a dye which, in small doses, can cause paralysis for a short period of time.

Forgive me, I've forgotten many others that can be used to produce sleep or paralysis, but there are at least half a dozen other herbal concoctions that have similar effects.

By the way, I'm very much enjoying reading the Hammersfeld Parchments, great historical value there!

I will have a look at the ones you proposed. I know we have a lot of plants which might do the trick, but we have much more plants and I hope, somebody just knows it. Or some gnom invents some chemical stuff which would work also.

A few others, for your consideration:

Crimson rose teals, ground into powder or dissolved in liquid, produces sleep from hours to days.
Marenor Lotus petals, boiled down and added to wine, produces euphoria, and a sense of weightlessness and detachment.
Wild Rose petals, only those harvested in summer, produce a potent anesthetic which yields sleep for at least two days at a time.

Ta'lia, I am honored that you would charge me with writing an entry for Ether (diethyl ether). I would love to take on this project!
I'll need to do some research on this site to see what is already known about the reagents needed, and to see if I can Santharize the subject a fair amount.

According to Wikipedia, ether was an anesthetic that was largely replaced by chloroform.  It seems to date from around the 19th century though, which is relatively recent.  Perhaps something like opium, which has been around since ancient times, would be more suitable?  Although I don't know if we have any opium in Caelereth.

Yeah, found out that these are different things meanwhile. (Santharia educates! ;) )

I think I just change it to an unknown herbal mixture. Ether is on the way nevertheless!
