Do we have a section on "curses", now that we have proper witchfolk to put hexes on people? The closest I could find were (a) "Diseases" under the "Miscellaneous" menu and (b) "superstitions and folk beliefs" under "Cosmology and Myths".  These could be maladies of a supernatural nature which may be caused by any number of things, from a witch's hex to curses brought about by killing a magical/sacred creature such as the ferlawyng. (It seems to be okay to kill unicorns in Caelereth, so you have nothing to worry about Alt.)

Where should we place these? Under both "Misc" and "Cosmology and Beliefs" menus?

I had an idea for "Drifters" (synopsis below), inspired by something I read in Steinbeck's "East of Eden". At first, I thought I might follow a bestiary format and make them a quasi-apparition. Now I'm thinking, what if they are men changed by a curse? Husbands who try to stop a windrunner or try to kill it using windcatchers are cursed by its touch and become Drifters? I will need to reread Shab's excellent "Evil Ear" and "Gobbleswap" entries to see whether a bestiary or a superstition template would be best to bring out the timid little cub of this idea from its hiding place.

DRIFTERS: "It is believed that men who die under the Curse of the Windrunner become Drifters. They are wandering men, lonely men who want it that way. Some of them run from responsibilities and some feel driven out of society by injustice. They work a little, but not for long. They steal a little, but only food and occasionally needed garments from a wash line. They are all kinds of men - literate men and ignorant men, clean men and dirty men - but all of them have restlessness in common. They follow warmth and avoid great heat and great cold.

They are lean and sun-darkened men who have learned to throw a curtain around themselves. They school themselves against hurry, remove expression from their faces, light from their eyes and silence their speech. In time, after sufficient peregrination, a Drifter's voice grows soft, and he has merged many accents and dialects into his own speech so that his speech does not seem foreign anywhere.

They are brothers to the coyote which, being wild, lives close to man and his chickenyards. They are near towns but not in them. Associations with other men are for a week or for a day and then they drift apart. They are poor enough to be kind but not so poor that the viciousness of prolonged desperation has taken hold over their hearts. Around their little fires, there is all manner of talk and only the personal is unmentionable. Each contribute bits of thought to the fire as each contribute carrots and potatoes and onions and meat to the stew.

A Drifter spends a lifetime drifting from place to place, until one day he lays himself on the sun-warmed sand and rests, counting the waves and the end of his days."

"Is he allowed to do that?"
"I think that comes under the rule of Quia Ego Sic Dico."
"Yes, what does that mean?"
"'Because I say so', I think."
"That doesn't sound like much of a rule!"
"Actually, it's the only one he needs." (Making Money by Terry Pratchett)

Coren, would you consider a curse as a form of magic? Or would you write them to be the superstitious result of health problems?

We have a section on witchcraft and witchery spells in the Magic forum.  I would suggest it belongs there in a potentially new subsection of "curses" (unless you think this should expand beyond witches).
