A couple of questions:

1) I couldn't find any naming conventions relating the names of noble houses. Do they follow the same conventions as first names?

2) Any examples? The only one that comes to mind is "Salazath", as in "King Santhros of House Salazath". Are there others we know of?

3) Who is the current Duke of Ancyros? Any historical dukes/duchesses?

Coren, I have a look tomorrow, may well be, that I have invented the one or other...

I'm too tired to look through all my stuff right now, Coren, but let me try to derive the house names from what we have:

Quote
Similar to the Honourary Titles are the Customary Titles, which commoners implicitly use when talking about persons without making them official. Customary Titles however can be acknowledged by the village or town council and thus made "official", turning into Honourary Titles. Customary titles can refer to locations, appearance or be a substitute for rank - people are very creative in this respect actually and not always give titles in favour of persons... (examples: "Hilldweller", "Broadnose", "Dimwit").

Such Customary Titles are also often referred to as House Names. House Names are musts at the nobility, and are give from father to son.

As the house names have probably evolved from the customary titles as above mentioned, they could vary widely and you can invent anything which is in favour of the persons (they would nor have taken a dimwit as their housename). So there is/was probably a house of Jernais, a house of Vandrina/Vandrinar maybe or house of Bitterstone, Liosa or Cardos (locations), but also House of Silkelground e.g. , House of Highbones/ Blackskin (appearance). You could make up a name of the first names syllables also, I assume. House of Aerinmar?? House of Ancyros, or Ancyrach, for a variation? Maybe it would point to an event also: House of Blackheath...

3. The ones I invented for my history, will look later.

Edit: Look here - don't know, if I should name some of them not just 'from Carmalad‘, but invent a housename also?

Question. does the rule, that nobles need a housename apply to all of Santharia?

Hi Coren!

I would love to help you brainstorm some house names!--though I'm currently mired in the Game of Thrones books, so I worry about pulling out appellation that share semblance from Mr. Martin's stories.  buck Have you considered borrowing some house names from the Voldarian Council? Granted, the council hasn't ruled in quite some times, but I assume at least a few of the names are still viable.

I tend to prefer house names like Braierwynd, Diregull, Tyremond, Ironglen, Brackensut, Silvrwayer, etc. I can help you brainstorm some. What are you using these for? I've been eager to begin constructing the noble houses of Vardynn!
