This is just an idea, but I thought it would be easier if we decided now what the tribes were named and how they got there.

Already decided yellow
Suggestions from me red

Extinct:
Deep Dwarves - Toltrumerim ( short for TolTrumGerim Under-Rock Dwarves)


Still here:
High Dwarves  - Kiingerim

Plain Dwarves - Nybelmargerim

suggested change::number1        I know it's a lot of work, but I would like to change this name beacause it gives the impression that they are the only dwarven clan on Nybelmar. A new name could be...Kavogerim (short for KavoHoonHolThergerim - means Dwarves of Desert Travel)

Hill Dwarves    - Chaorim (short for Choargerim = Hill Dwarves)

In all the cases, exept when it says "KorMor Nybelmargerim", it should be changed to Kavogerim, or a name we agree on.
If it says KorMor before, "Nybelmargerim" should be changed to Toltrumerim.

Whew!  Well, thanks for doing the legwork, there, Victhorin!

I don't know if Art will thank us for having to make thirty-three separate changes (although I guess the Web History is not so important, so that's only thirty-two :p  ) - better check with him and see if it's something that could be done in the future, or by the other person who is helping him put up entries (Sifler perhaps?  Not sure :o  )

At any rate, don't start using the new name until he knows about this concept, ok?  We can always live with Nybermargerim; dwarves ARE pretty insular...

Well, this can be done, sure. It will be a little effort, but on the other hand "Nybelmargerim" perhaps indeed looks more like a Nybelmarian version added to the word "Thergerim", and this doesn't give that much of an own identity as an own word can. So changing that is in order, though we can still keep the term "Nybelmargerim" as a secondary one, I'd say.

Maybe (I'm not sure I understood everything you wrote) we can use the term "Nybelmargerim" in the big picture: All dwarves on Nybelmar are called Nybelmargerim and then they belong to clans called Kiingerim etc....?

Yes, that's more or less what I wanted to say as well, Victhorin, just a bit more complicated...:biggrin

Nybelmargerim = "Dwarves of Nybelmar", so a Nybelmargerim could either be a Kiingerim, or any other dwarf of Nybelmar;)

Well... I wanted to update the pages with the new name "Ungerim" for "Nybelmargerim", but I think with "unger" you actually got a wrong word here. Judy has created adjectives:

Unaril - Pretty (lit. "like jewel")
Unger - Plain (lit. "like dirt")

This doesn't have really much to do with the landscape formation of a plain, the dry plains of central Nybelmar, you know, it's an adjective meaning "simple". So before I change anything, I guess a proper word for "plain" should be created.

I like Kavogerim best, but I might have missunderstood agian.:)

Sorry about the misunderstanding of 'plain' - we did the same thing with 'chest' earlier!  I MUST go through and sort the dwarven dictionary into adjectives, nouns, verbs, etc. or at least add a parenthetical note to the homonyms..

I assume the Gunolwergerim are what was referred to as Hill Dwarves? The Kavogerim what were the Plaindwarves.

Who are the Lohogerim?

I feel this name-changing "thing" has been a bit confusing. I'll try to clarify it:

Now: Plain Dwarves, Nybelmargerim

Becomes: Plain Dwarves, Kavogerim
--------------------------------------


Now: Hill Dwarves,.....................

Becomes: Hill Dwarves, Chaorgerim
--------------------------------------

Now : Deep Dwarves, .................

Becomes: Deep Dwarves, Toltrumerim
-------------------------------------

Now: High Dwarves, Kiingerim

No change

------------------------------------

New: All the dwarves on Nybelmar, Nybelmargerim
