I didn't put them in the tribes forum, because they will not be finished for a long time, but I HAD to write appearance today, and so I thought I  post , so you know, what you can expect!
The name is preliminary as well, might change it later.

So, let's change our beauty ideal!

The Himiko

Many thanks to Minóki Kíuru for coming the long way to Santharia to share her knowledge about her tribe,  the Kamoko and the other tribes living there, known now as Himiko, and Turik of Barsalon for rescuing her from her life in Searoth, and  showing her the way to the south  - Talia Sturmwind



Overview



The Himiko are some tightly related ice tribes who live on the islands around the Three Islands‘ Bay east of the Iceland Coast in Northern Sarvonia. In contrary to the majority of the other ice tribes on the mainland, they have not only a slightly other appearance , but a  very different lifestyle as well. Where the people of the Iceland's herd animals, the Himiko are only living of what the sea provides them with.



Appearance




The very first impression one will have when viewing a member of this tribe, especially outside their housings is: Round, big  and sometimes furry. Round like a well sized boulder, massive like a barrel and furry like a strange animal with patches of fur at certain points of its body. But this ball of fur and leather moves sometimes astoundingly quick and when you come nearer, you will find a round dark tanned face with a  welcoming smile somewhere on top of it. And probably it will not take long, till one is urged to a nearby „hole“ in the snow which turns out to be the opening to one of their domes build out of snow. There layers of fur are removed then and out comes a human being not to different to what is known throughout Caelereth.

Though most of their bulging appearances is due to their clothing, the Himiko nevertheless are a people who most people would not consider as slender. They are not very tall either, in average  a ped and two  fores, or very rarely up to a ped and three fores, but that is seen already as gigantic. All on them is round, the face, the arms, the body and even the legs. But strangely, they don‘t look fat, but well proportioned and after some time, a traveller starts to wonder , why he ever admired the thin slenderness of elven ladies - and how an Himiko woman is able to move elegantly and quickly her one and a half pyggies or more around.

They have a fair complexion throughout the tribe and their bodies are of a milky white, however their hands and especially their faces are tanned to a bronzed brown after the summer has ended. Their lifestyle in the fresh air and in the snow darkens their exposed skin, even if the sun is seen not too often in winter.

Their eyes are slightly almond shaped, and  every colour is found, though the fair-haired woman have mainly light-coloured eyes. The noses are not too prominent, more flat than pointed, and in every face one will find dimples - especially when they smile of course. Due to the constant squinting caused by the sun glinting  of the ice, and despite a sun protection they have a lot of crow‘s feet around the eyes, even  young persons.

There are all hair colours present, but strangely distributed throughout the tribe. So one will find no man with fair hair, but about half the women have  red hair or blond  with sometimes white strands in it, and in most cases it is at least slightly curled. They wear it as they like, short or long, in braids or open, and there is no distinction between women or men.



Coat of Arms


The Himiko have no coat of arms. They are only very loosely organised, if at all, and though there are blood ties throughout all tribes, they live mostly on their own, there are rarely more than two or three families at one place. Even if they gather in times of need, to fend off encroachments of the mainland ice tribes or when they hunt together the big whales of the northern sea, the idea of carrying a  banner or wear any signs which show, that they are of one tribe, seems absurd to them.


Territory


Only recently the existence of the tribes inhabiting the islands around the Three Islands‘ Bay which are known under the names Wicker Islands, Napthos Island and Bower Island  got well known to Southern Sarvonia. These islands east of the Icelands Coast of Northern Sarvonia were meant to be inhabited, if at all, by relatives of the ice tribes of the mainland, the Icelands Coast. However, now, that a member of these tribes has found her way to Santharia to share her knowledge with us other writers of the grand compendium, things look different. Their  lifestyle as their slightly different appearance, their adaption to their environment, which surpasses the one of the people living on the islands by far, suggests, that they are  native to these islands. This contradicts however the new theory (based on the myth  the tree of life) currently favoured in New Santhala, that all humans once lived in a confined area and spread from there over the whole of Caelereth, after a disaster of unknown kind happened. (The myth again tells  of the burning of the tree of life.) If we adopt this theory, then the Himiko must have migrated to these island in a very early stage of their history, maybe even shortly after this assumed disaster happened. On the other side, some names of their gods, like Néor, Kroár, Esha and Sarefy could be derived, and I stress here ‚could‘ from the Santharian gods Nethor, Grothar, Eyasha and Baveras (read backwards: Sarevab). That would point to a distant relation to Santharia, maybe even to the also red-haired Erpheronians. Much more research on their myth and comparison with those of the mainland ice tribes has to be done, before one can come to any decision from where they hail.

When asking , where they live, one thinks of the islands around the Three Islands‘ Bay, now known as Himiko Archipel. However, this is not entirely true. They don‘t live just on the islands, but due to long time of permanent freezing temperatures up there in the north, they inhabit as well the ice between the islands. Infact, at the end of winter, when the resources get scarce, they migrate into the bay, where part of the water is open all year round due to a source of heat deep down in the ocean. In summer, when the ice is broken, they go fishing and hunting all over the sea, such enlarging their area of living considerably.
In the west of their territory, the mainland of the Icelands' coast is found. In strong winters the water between the islands and the main coast is frozen, so the access seems easier than in summer. However, the ice is treacherous, and it is a long voyage nevertheless.
To the north, the south and the east the Northern Sea stretches endlessly, and though it is said, that a passage over the ice to distant shores would be possible, if only one would travel fast and far enough - who knows?

I love the way you used description and had little words and details that added more then just the words.

Just a few thoughts.

You say that their hands are bronzed as well, but in the type of weather they have they would wear a type of glove most of the year to save their hands from frostbite.

You might want to mention that their noses, being more bulbous is beneficial as it allows the air to be warmed more before inhalation.

Also just a mention that even the young have wrinkles due to the constant squinting caused by the sun glinting off of the ice.

Oh, and the climate would normally make the hair pretty straight.  Hair gets curlier in more humid climates.  This is a dry cold one.

Yes, that with the hands is partly true, but the wind is not always pressing and the temparatures will hopefully go at least near freezing point at some time, so they might want to not to wear gloves for doing finer things. The hands are like the face used to withstand frost, so ....  you are from  California, Drogo  

To the curly hair: We don't have to stick to what is true on earth... and I know a few people with curly hair in the dryest climate (they hate it), so let's have curls for most of them - I think it looks nicer , if you are well build!

I don't want really bilbous noses, more flat, like those of eskimos, but not this flat - let's see, what we can do to warm up the wind !

And the wrinkles, as you said - I just forgot to mention it!

allright Talia, I do admit I don't take into mind some of the cold type stuff considering the temp where I live is between 60-80 degrees fairenhait on average.  So there isn't too much of a change one way or another.

As far as the wind, perhaps there is only one really windy season, say winter, and for the rest of the time it is a dry cold.  I'm sure it will get well below zero on a normal occasion, however with a dry cold that would be much better for people.

I liked especially the fact that this ice tribe is friendly since they live isolated on their island with no competitors against them. This is a nice antithesis to the warlike ice tribes of the mainland! If there is no cold wind carrying humidity hands could be exposed to the sun (especially if there are tasks to be done that require some skill).

Well, Curgan, they won't be this isolated, I have to check the distances, but I plan to visit your tribes  in not a too friendly way - you will however have troubles to find them if you plan to strike back!

Get on and develope some at the coast which is next to my islands!

[Curgan]

In my immediate intentions is to collect all the Ice Tribe feedback and prepare the final version of the entry. Leaving blank the religion entry since I think that there is much room for discussion left yet.
My next priority is to develop a coastal ice tribe which (as I understand with have a troubled relationship with the Himiko. I imagine epic and primitive campaigns and counter-campaigns of the icemen -BTW you can have your revenge for the campaign against Stratania here ). Just post an overview of your intentions in order to develop it accordingly.
