This is also something I wanted to propose to give a thought at some point:

That the player can stack (at least) smaller items in your inventory, like torches, potions, herbs etc. I fear as soon as the inventory items are increasing we won't get around stacking at some point. Also not of major importance for now, but something to consider, I guess.

Related to the inventory stacking is items stacking in the rooms. Currently a meadow of plants & herbs where you can pick up 3 plants of the same kind simply show: lothan flower, lothan flower, lothan flower. Not very nice, but maybe possible to change somehow in the long run.

Yes that's a nice idea which always existed at the back of my head as well but never sat down to code it.

There is some necessary stacking implemented but it is for weapons only e.g. you can drag arrows of the same type in your inventory to stack them. This is also true for weapons like throwing daggers or darts.

... and then I must also implement un-stacking so things are always more complex than what they seem to be.

And something else. If we want to allow the player to carry more items we can implement containers such as potion bags or other general purpose containers. These containers can have a maximum of ten slots.

Is this already possible?

Idea: I remember for example that "Arx Fatalis" had a nice system for inventory expanding - that you start off with a small backpack, then during the game you can get another, bigger one. Then you can switch between item 1-20 and items 21-40 etc. by clicking a scroll arrow. So this game doesn't need any additional containers, but keeps all in the main inventory, which is simply expanded a bit. Guess it was quite practical this way and perhaps a possibility. But that's just an observation.

It is possible that the player can carry additional containers in his backpack.

I don't know about inventory expanding though. It is not just a matter of the interface but also how the additional items will be stored. For now this requires many changes. Besides I have not seen many games to offer such a possibility.

No, not necessary... Just wanted to make sure that the text you want to integrate is the final version :) Just leave the rest there!
28 May 2013, 03:57:46
Do you need me to remove the rest of it?  It was supposed to be a full blown entry, but still gathering facts for the other stuff.  I'll move the stuff to be integrated into its own entry.  :)

No problem there - are you sure that you've posted the final version? Text on the site is about a year old...
