I'm stuck on territory. I also feel like there is a bunch more I need to add. Can someone help me please? >_<; Maybe someone might think of some Myth or Lore for this plant? Not a huge bit, just enough so that I can do a bit of research and expand on it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rice

Overview: The Rice plant is a cultivated plant that is usually grown in flooded fields. Though during spring and summer it is brilliant green in color, it becomes a greenish yellow-brown in autumn, when the fields are drained for harvesting. This plant produces a small kernel which may be boiled, simmered, steamed and eaten. It is also commonly fermented into an alcoholic beverage called “Rice Wine.”

Description: The rice plant grows two to nine fores high. At first, the young rice plant is made up of only one shoot, though eventually one, two, and often many more offshoots develop from the base of this main stem. Each stalk has five or six joints from where slender, thin leaves grow. The leaves of a rice plant of thing and very long, sometimes a fore in length! These leaves tend to be very stiff and are pointed at the end. When young, the leaves and stalk will appear bright green, but as the plant ripens, it will become a dull greenish yellow or greenish yellow-brown.

At the highest joint of each stalk, it will branch into a head from there many little flowers will grow and eventually where the grains will develop. The rice grains themselves, when harvest, appear light brown. This is the color of the rough outer shell, which isn’t very good to eat. However, this shell is a loose one and will easily slip off to reveal a lighter, off-white kernel.

Rice plants are usually planted in rows in wet ground, usually in flooded fields. After about 30 or 40 days, the young plants, called seedlings, will begin to sprout up. Sometimes seedlings are grown separately in greenhouses where they mature faster, and then are transplanted to cultivated fields. In the autumn, when the grain starts to ripen, the flooded fields are drained of water so the soil is dry for harvest time.

Territory: The rice plant is almost entirely a cultivated plant whose seeds are sown by farmers and whose grains are harvested for food. Rice plants require a lot of water and are thus grown in flooded field or in places where rainfall is heavy.  They are commonly found in the southern part of Nybelmar, west of the Sohol Dolion and south of the Bothon Dolion, including around the city of Gelm, Coihaven, and Anpagan. They are also commonly grown on some of the southern islands of Nybelmar, including the southwestern part of Kaleman, the northern part of Jekin'thar, and the southern tip of Mohen Toi. They are rarely found anywhere else as they require good rainfall and warm climates.

Usages: Rice is a commonly eaten meal prepared by boiling or simmering the grains in water. During cooking, the rice grains will swell up to two or three times their regular size because of the water they soak up. It is advised that, for every tot of rice, one should boil it with 1Ľ tots of water. Rice can often be sticky and thus molded into certain shapes before being seasoned or put into soups or stews. Rice, when fermented, will make an alcoholic beverage called “rice wine,” though the grains can also be used to make beer.

irrigation is vital. Also, which seasons are wet and which are dry for flooding, dry growth, and fallow(or other crop to "clean" the field) need to be referred to.

"Rice seed is sown into nursery fields in March and transplanted by hand into the padday fields at the end of April or early May....placed 3.8 cm apart....four weeks later, when seedlings are 15-20 cm, they are transplanted to the paddy fields. 6-8 seedlings are planted 15 cm apart in clumps.....so....they can be harvested with one stroke of the sickle. Paddy fields are kept flooded throughout the growing season....harvesting is done by hand....during the dry season....In autumn, the land is either left faloow, or, more commonly, rape is sown to clean the fields.... Rape is harcested in April and the field ploughed and harrowed in preparation for rice transplantation."

This is a description of how it is done in Guizhou, the poorest province in China, so pretty low-tech. The terrain there is rocky and mountainous, the weather is cold and foggy and rainy much of the year, and most farmwork is done by hand or by ox. (I almost moved there a few years back, and may still in the future)
Just to give you another real-life reference

I should probbaly add a "Cultivation" section, but first, I need some help. ^_^;;

What's the difference between nursery fields and regular fields?

Erm. It also says that the plants are put into clumps so that they can be harvested with a sickle, ut it also says they're harvested by hand. o.o;; Which one is it? Also, do we have a sickle in Santharia? Maybe I can make one... ^^''

What is Rape? o.o;;

Thank you, Graybark, for your help. Just the information you've given me so far has been absolutely wonderful! ^_^

Nursey perhaps pertaining to young sprouts that must be watched over, while regular fields need less tending?

That's what I'm thinking of.

Hn. Maybe. Or maybe like.. the rows are closer together. Or perhaps the water is kept at a lower level. o.o; It's hard to say. Maybe is all of these or maybe just a few.

I was thinking about adding the bit about throwing rice at weddings in the usages section, but I don't know. That doesn't sound very Santharian to me. Hn. Isn't rice put in salt shakers to prevent the salt from clumping together since rice absorbs water? That's a practical use. Maybe I could use that..

I'll give some Myth/Lore later when I have time (this evening?) - Korea is a very rice-oriented country, and there are lots of ideas I can steal!

Pst, Erutan... Japanese cooking doesn't exist in Santharia. Unless you want to make up a similar style and give it a different name. ^_~

Hehehe....my answers to your questions is.....I don't know!
Friends of mine that farm don't like to describe it too much....and I've only seen rice farming in the right season for 20 min or so.....usually people are wading around in it weeding, or letting water in from the irrigation trenches, or letting water out from the irrigation trenches.
...but I don't know the answer to any of your questions, which is why I didn't say anything in response. My apologies, **bows**

It has been hacked. The third time in 3 days. I need to replace the changed files again (won't happen before evening) - and then see what the SMF support recommends as a strategy.
