Artan'thyron Elves

Disclaimer: It's been a while, and I'm sloppy, also this is just the rough draft as I actually had a few hours to think about this stuff today. So, here's those thoughts.

Artan'thyron Elves (Blessed Sea Elves)

Overview: The Artan'thyron have always been rather adventurous for elves. First they left the Injerin Elves, and became known as the Folkmore Elves, for the area that they settled. However they were forced to leave during the destruction of Parthenon by Gouran in b.s. In their flight of terror they found haven in the seas and upon the Islands in the Eight Winds bay. Thus did they name themselves the Artan'thyron. Since that time they have explored the rivers of North Eastern Sarvonia, and the Eastern Seas.

Appearance: As with all of their kind, the Artan'thyron tend towards a slender height, easily exceeding the height of a human. Their sharp, angular features and elongated faces only emphasize their height. Similiar to their ancestors, the Injerin, they lean towards having lighter characteristics. Their eyes are most often a soft grey, or blue, occasionally green as well. Their hair is nearly uniformly blonde. The most varying fact is that the Artan'thyron do not share the same ephmeral quality as their kin. The years spent at sea and enduring the raging storms on their rocky islands have weathered them.

Coat of Arms: The coat of arms is a single masted silver ship, it's sail unfurled in the wind. It rides upon a blue ocean, with three stylized waves.The background behind the ship is black. This the combination of two older coat of arms from the seperate groups that make up the Artan'thyron. One groups held their ship as their saviour, while another held the sea as their deliverance, and each was used accordingly. When they became united, then the ship and sea were joined together. The three waves represent the three islands in the Eight Winds Bay, and the black background symbolized their flight during the Year of the Bruning Night.

Territory: The Artan'thyron do not have a compact area that they call their own, rather it is a conglomeration of islands, ports, and towns. They occupy the islands of the Eight Winds Bay, the ports of Naurooth and Darooth, as well as the towns of Silven, Adlin, and Worldquest.

People: The Artan'thyron are certainly one of the most odd elven tribes, if not the strangest. They are most assuredly the most curious. They have sailed rivers, oceans, hidden waterways, and rumours say even the great whirlpool in the middle of the Eight Winds Bay. Instead of disdaining, of pitying humans, they find them fascinating and enjoy their companionship. They have even been known to be feasted in the great stone halls of the Kuglimz'torik, or the simple tents of the Kuglimz'ura. They are also willing to trade with the orcs and dark elves of the region.

Housing: They differ from other elves in this area as well. Their houses are simple buildings made of stone or mudbrick due to the lack of wood on the island. The houses are most often square in shape,with a flat roof that doubles as the cistern for that residence. The houses contain several rooms including a central kitchen area, sleeping rooms, and guest rooms.

Clothing: The clothing is simple, yet ornate. Most often they wear the water repellent furs and skins of the Nul'tum that they get from trading with the Kuglimz. The skin is fashioned into breeches and a light vest. The rest is then made into a cape with a hood. The clothing though quite plain protects them from the elements and is very serviceable. Shells of varying colors and shapes are then sewn throught the outfit in complex designs, some of the capes have full length historic scenes or mythological beasts.

Food: The majority of their food come from the ocean and consists of several different fish, shellfish, and kelp. They truly seem to no problem eating anything that comes from the sea, it has been said jokingly that they would even eat driftwood. The rest of their food, such as vegetables and meats come from trade with their neighbors.

Weapons: The use of weapons is rather limited among the Artan'thyron. It is near impossible to attack their rocky islands or well fortified cities. However, the crews of all their ships are trained and equipped to use bows and long spears. This stops attacks from river bandits or pirates.

Occupation: There are three occupations, though everyone tends to be at least a little of each as is necessary to survive. Their are the merchants who trade far and wide, so that the elves might not only survive on their barren islands, but also prosper. The fisher hauls in the majority of the Artan'thyron's food source, or can be called on as smugglers in case the islands are ever beseiged. Finally there are the builders. Those men and women that provide the backbone of what is the Artan'thyron people. For without their ships they would not last long.

Government: The government is headed up by a council of six. There are the two for the merchants, one for the river traders and one for the seafaring traders. There are also two for the ship builders, once again one for rivercraft and one for sea vessles. The fifth is the representative of the fishermen. Finally the sixth member is the one elected by the general people to best serve their needs. The sixth member's place is that of counselor and final vote in any decision as he keeps the people's needs in mind first and foremost.

Trade: This is the key part of this tribe. They are the only traders in all of Northeastern Sarvonia. From their islands they head South through underground waterway, through the Prominent Mts, where they pay the Kurakim dwarves a toll, then emerge in daylight upon the Luquador River. They follow that through the Shaded Forest down to World Quest where they pick up Kuglimz goods like Nul'tum fur, vegetables, and rough ornamentals, from the Injerin they get herbs and wood items. They also get metal items and fine ornamentals from the Kurakim. They will also at times travel the Liben River to trade with the orcs in the area.

Everyone watch yor productivity levels....Drogo's back.

So there not dark elves then? They're just weird wood elves? How do they explain trading with orcs philisophically, cos normally elves wouldn't....... I suppose if they put more emphasis on destruction being an equal balance of creation that might work. If that made any sense. I'm really not eloquent enough to make a philosopher.

Excuse my maniacal laughter. I sickeningly enjoy other people's overworked suffering, plus these pills don't seem to work very well.

Anyways we'll get back on track. I've looked, and I can't find any entries on the Themed'lon Forest. I wanted to see what race lived there. There is a mix of elves and humans, but after the Great Sundering. The human tribe of Themedons inhabited the Forest along side the elves. But it is not clear what elves.

BTW: have you got an updated map showing the races of Caael'heroth?

Great to see you back, and in fine form, Drogo....

My dwarves will be happy to collect any tolls, and participate in any trades, barters, or swaps you might have going...

We particularly like having other people hunt our meat for us, by the way, and cut timber is always welcome.

There are two times when all of the peoples gather together. The thing that sets these times apart from the others more than anything is the quite nature of them. It is said that only at these two gathering do the Artan'thyron not laugh or smile.

Kara'xeua: (Lit. The Time of Disconnection) The somber gathering begins with darkest hour of night, wooden models of their ancient city of Parthenon are set afire while all around interlink hands all the while the gathered sing songs of sorrow and shed many a tear. This is in rememberance of the destruction of Parthenon by Gouran, and their feelings of seperation from other elves not only physically but also idealisticly.

Weivoc'kara: (Lit. Destiny's Time) This is a three day event stretching from the fith to eighth day of Cort'omerra. The fifth day begins with every child launching a wooden boat into the waters of Eight Winds Bay. This signifies the escaping of the Artan'thyron from the clutches of Gouran into the sea. The rest of the day and the next are spent along the beaches with ones family in thoughtful contemplation of the past. No food is eaten, nor any drunk, not even a sheltered is allowed. This is so they may faithfully remember their past. The third day though, is one of great rejoicing and once again smiles break forth, just as the safety of their islands broke forth from the waves and saved their forefathers.

Ages and ages ago you said you wanted one of my elfy peeps to go live with elfys in the North.....That still something you wanna persue. I did the entry right before stuff got crazy, so I can dig it out if you like or just delete it.

Just a short note, Drogo: I see that the name should be Artánhe'thyrón in fact ("blessed elves"), cause "artán" is only the infinitive, not the past participle ("artanhé"). We could name the elves this way, or cut it a bit to Arthyrón, this would then just be a short form. It could also be the name of the sea, which the elves have given to it. What do you think?

BTW: It should be Kára'ecuá (as xeuá means in fact connection, not dis-connection, this is ecúa).

BTW2: The natural resources part is still missing as I can see.

Ok, I've already prepared the entry, just let me know how the tribe should be called.
