How long will this last, Marvin?
We have to pay 600€ in autumn for a semester for our son, for the first time. That doesn't sound too much ( though sometimes even 100€ a month more expenses is hurting you, for they are not the only ones) but I fear that this is only the beginning here, the embankment (?) is broken, as we say in Germany, for till now studying was by law nearly free, apart from 80€ for the students organisation per semester (and from the living costs and rent for a flat of course)

I don't see this changing any time soon without some major protestings. I don't see any political parties getting a majority that will change the law either. There have already fallen two governments over education if I'm not mistaking. So there's good hopes that it will be quite a while for such changes.

600€ is about what I need to pay for university (including books) a year and that's without scholarship. If you get a scholarship it drops drasticly and if you're living on your own you even get funded for their daily expenses if I'm not mistaking. The students organisation is as good as free (considering all the advantages), but that's because they have lots of major sponsors.

I had to drop out of college twice because I couldn't afford it.  I never did get a degree.  I've only recently lucked out and caught up with the rest of my generation, paycheck wise.  It took a lot to do it without an upper education.  Stay smart in school, kiddies, and get that scholarship.  It's no fun playing catch-up for the first half of your life, answering to folks much younger than you and with even less of a grasp on reality than us Tolkien types.  :-)  And as for the age thing: consider every silver hair a tiny little badge of wisdom.  We earned those all on our own.

God bless the UNAM (Independent National University of Mexico in english) I study there, and all you have to pay (aside from the books) is $2 or a donative of up that, do you know what's that!!! is like 0.2 dolars!!! of cource books are the expensive part, I have spent like 100 dolars on books and materials for school (specially drawing class, may the earth swallow my teacher >:  ) but think about it, compared to 600€ is nothing.

Also, the UNAM is the best university in Mexico, but is extremly hard to enter, they make a test of 128 questions, you have an hour to answer, and the average result is 34 correct answers (I had 111, I'm still proud of it:worship ).

Hey Rendragon!!! You went missing for a while (or was it just me?) Glad to see you back!

Well, the government subsidises the university education for us and the remainder is usually from loans so I am going to graduate seriously in debt.

Hello Elendilwyn,

I was, indeed, missing for a bit.  It started with strange computer problems and just about the time I got it all figured out, life got in the way.  It is very good to be back again, however.  I like your new portrait.  :-)

It is good to hear that all of you are successfully navigating college in your respective countries.  Even if you do start out in debt, I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end.

Artemis, did I read that right?  You're not even twenty-one?  How blessed I am to be mentored by the young!  Good thing I'm moving along so slowly.  You wouldn't even have been able to buy me a celebratory drink when I make it to full membership!  Speaking of which, I'm still new enough to this to not be sure where I list all of the stuff I've been putting together for the past months.  I'm not trying to put forth entries at this point.  I just want to touch base and make sure I'm still working within proper guidelines.

Have a good day, all you young whippersnappers.  :-)

studying in Holland isn't cheap either (we pay 1800euro a year for the right to study, plus you have to buy your own books/computer/study materials). I know university fees in Canada are very high too.

Ahhh Grevarious, I can buy you a drink in my home country of England however - the legal age here is 18 ;) . So I shall have to buy the drink here, package it up and fly it over to you!

That's the reason Silfer made teleport spell, so you don't have to send it via mail... is a pity that spell don't work in RL:lol

Aye Rendragon, I like my new look too.;)

Never underestimate the young... while we may not have the wisdom that age offers, we definitely have the ideals that youth inspires. It is good to be young. :nod

Ideals, money ..... universities Blah! The things that matter most in life have not even been mentioned here. You have all forgotten FRIENDS and happiness with what you have, not lust for the things you desire. As I said Blahness! Feed yourself, keep a roof over your head, respect others and after that ENJOY THE THINGS IN LIFE YOU HAVE.

LUST: (One of the seven deadly sins.) I see very little here outside lust for things people do not have or envy of others.

Pardon my intrude , Since i am 24 i taught in giving my opinion of what is the most important thing in life.

Until i reached 18 i believed the most important was having fun ,now i truly believe love and respect for others are the most important thing in life , love is the most powerfull force in the universe and when one is in love , i wonder if many agree with me , all seems possible.

And respect ?

Well my friends , without respect for the next , what are we ?

Little more than a rock or a piece of wood.

Again i apologize for my intrusion , but i just wanted to give my opinion .

Love and respect work best when passed in circles.  Opinions are always welcome, Malavon.    We're all friends, here.  Nice to meet you, by the way.

Files have been replaced again, but the question remains how long this will last. SMF support will have a look at the security problem.

It has been hacked. The third time in 3 days. I need to replace the changed files again (won't happen before evening) - and then see what the SMF support recommends as a strategy.

Arti, could you maybe take a look at the RPG board? I got a message from my anti-virus program and now I can't access the column on the right with the list of current threads and the shoutbox. Thankies :)
