* been wanting to come up with some of these. Here's the first and I'll come up with more. Anyone have any ideas, feel free to post them! *

Two mourning people, man and wife,
  are sitting side by side.
She is sobbing in agony,
He holds her while She cries.

" O Husband, our only Son has been
taken by the Queen of the Dead!
Her sefish thoughts and actions are Cruel.
Is there nothing can be done or said?"

" My mourning Wife, the silent Goddess
has taken him for her own.
We shall see Him when it's Our turn,
We'd best leave well 'nough alone."

"Nay! I shan't!" She cried aloud
and promptly rose to her feet.
" She has stolen my Child, I'll take him back!
  This Goddess I will meet..."

With this She took a Dagger sharp,
and cleaved Her wrists quite clean.
Her final words were quiet and calm...
  " I want my Child, O Queen..."

The Husband knew, Deep down inside
  his Wife would never return.
He eyed the Dagger, and then his wife;
his love for Her still burned.

And with a cut of his own two wrists,
  the Husband joined his Wife.
They were finally happy, all as one;
Though they mourned the end of their Lives.

'Cept elves believe in a circle of life, that they will be reincarnated (the rite of return), and returned to Sorren. But they're both so beautiful that I'm not gonna pull philosophy on it.....and I can't wait to hear what you sound like.

*Can already hear what the first one might sound like*

The second piece is stunning.  I am reminded again of what a beautiful language has been created in Styrash...and you have used it delicately to create a plaintive, powerful syllabic plaint.  One can hear the wistful elven voices, of heartbreaking beauty, throwing the notes and lyrics back and forth among the high trees in an overlapping echo like water falling on leaves.

Well my grandad always said you can spot a great set of lyrics by how easily they lend themselves to music.... Normally takes me ages to come up with even a simple tune, I sang the first one straight through without any problems.

I'm not sure whether you knew what you wanted this one to sound like, or even what you thought it should sound like. I can email you the mp3s if you wish. Also, If your recording your own sound files You need to convert them to mp3 for the site. I still have the mp3 converter setup files an can email that to you if you want it (its only a 1mb)

Hm. With the first one, I never had a tune to it. It was written on the train on the way to school. the second one has a defenite tune, and... lemme see if my program has an MP3

Hm. With the first one, I never had a tune to it. It was written on the train on the way to school. the second one has a defenite tune, and... lemme see if my program has an MP3 thingie before I download anything ( as it isn't my comp.)

And I had thought of the philosophy thing. But I figured as it's a circle, why would a death be any different from a birth? So I figured songs could be in order... also been to alot of catholic ceremonies recently.... listening to the Rosary prayed in spanish is a very interesting sound, wanted to do something like that. Want to make up gregorian chant-like verses, but THAT'S going to be really hard, as the voices travel all over the scale.

also. Writing about death is a little easier for me.

* My Bard, I took the concept of Dwarves turning to Stone when they died and applied it to this chant. Mayhaps they recite it while carrying the stone corpse to its resting place?*

Sthomm, Sthomm, Mumpherl Susil... Wraak, Yrant, Khorim...

stone, stone, to stand quiet ... to sleep, to end, Death.

Here is Wren's song, based on Viresses lyrics. Note that this is only a preliminary version, so forget the background noises and the fact that it is split into 2 parts currently. We can fix that later on at the final version. Right-click and choose "Save As..." on the following files:

Song Part 1 Song Part 2

I like them:)

really really rough, and the mic on my laptop is really bad. I just sang it through as I read Vir's lyrics. I have to say they are possibly some of the best I've seen for a long time.

*wipes away a few tears and snuffles*

I wrote... that...

*sits a few moments in utter shock*

Thank you, Wren. I had no idea it was so pretty until you sang it.

*wanders off *

I take it that its OK then? Want me to polish it up then? If there's any bits you don't like/want to change, just point them out and I'll sort them out to the best of my ability.

I can't put down anything that beautiful. I can't even think about it. All today, I kept hearing your voice singing those words and I just about break into tears.

Music is very important to me, and hearing your voice sing such words pulls at strings that Music has never tugged at.

If anything... maybe combining the recordings so they are one...

But... yeah. I adore it as is. Thank you, Wren.

* using the post Anaea made of the Sori'ynt language, I made a chant. Not entirely about death, it's more of a prayer of goodwill to one on a journey. ( Which could be death... ) *

Popai flo’a res'it ( po-pai flo-ah-ah re-is-it)
doore hiy'a kamd. ( doo-re hee-ya kamd)
Up na'roo ta odi   ( oop na-ah-roo ta oh oh-di)
du popai, guyr.    ( du po-pai goo-ree-ur)

Te sa For'l ta lim'ia,    ( teh sa fo-rel ta lee-mee-ah)
na'roo ta die'f return popai.  ( na-roo ta dee-eff ree-turn po-pai)
Te sa For'l ta lim'ia,
na'roo ta die'f return popai.

Cor mor'na ta uinu  ( con mor-na ta oo-ee-noo)
Miu ji'po boff      ( mee-oo jee-po baff)
Parki na'roo patre popai.  ( paaar-kiii naaa-rooo pa-ah-tre po-pai)
Cor mor'na ta uinu,
Miu ji'po boff
Parki na'roo patre popai.

You wander without help toward infinite light.
But we are with you, always.

And as the Sun shines,
we are watching over you.

When Night falls, Our hearts be ill
Until We see you.

The fallen of battle
Those struck by disease
Nothing to nothing
From death into dream

In dark dwarven caverns
In bright elven trees
Nothing to nothing
From death into dream

On Her black sky-throne
The dead all she sees
Nothing to nothing
From death into dream

There in that high place
The judgement is said
Nothing to nothing
From death into dream

For there the gone will learn
The fate of the dead
Nothing to nothing
From death into dream

To nightmare or dream
The fallen is lead.
Nothing to nothing
From death into dream.

Thus spoke the Frost Queen
"And so it shall be.
Nothing to nothing
From death into dream."

"I shall claim this right
For eternity."
Nothing to nothing
From death into dream

So it ever has been.
And so it shall be.
From nothing, to nothing.
From death, into dream.

Meant to be sung at a fast, somewhat angry tone until the last stanza, where each comma or period indicates a relatively long pause, and the tone is more sorrowful.
