Kuglimz Lament for a Firstborn Child

The grief that splits a parent’s soul
Is of all loss the most forlorn,
An anguish far too deep for tears
to ease the death of my firstborn.

To lay a babe in earth’s embrace
No mother should be made to do,
Nor father yet; to Jav’eir’s wings
We should have passed long before you.

My womb, my arms, my heart; all grieve
For each in turn therein held you,
And emptiness they now contain.
With every morn, I mourn anew.

(This poem is dedicated to the memory of Dylan Cooper, firstborn son of Jason (whom we knew as Drogo)  and Amber, who died early this year from SIDS.)

:hug

Such a sweet note to add to the end. I love the poem Alysse, especially the final line of the second verse, where long is drawn forward because it shouldn't fall on a stressed syllable, but when I read it out loud I simply swallow half of before so that I can stress both "long" and "you".

Thank you, Gean! :hug

I know what you mean, Talia, I wrote it with tears running down my cheeks.  But sometimes you have to--bits and pieces of this poem had been tormenting my mind for a few days and finally I had to sit down and put it all together.

I thought perhaps it might be appropriate to put it up on the site with a note dedicating it to Dylan's memory, since Jason (Drogo) was a long-time, hard-working, much liked and respected member here and he is now not able to be with us for the forseeable future.

Thank you both again for commenting and I will mark it for integration.

Just snuck in a little late, Alysse, this poem really moves me, it has great strenght and emotion in it. I am not a hero with poems, but I truly admire this one!

Many thanx for posting, Alysse! I guess this is really a poem coming from your heart, especially as you're now expecting number 4 and know the feeling of waiting for the baby and later raising it very well. And I guess hearing this story of Drogo must have hit you very much, also as Drogo was/is your Kuglimz co-developer, and it very much seems as if this tragedy also ripped him out of Santharia for an undefined time. Very emotional piece of poetry, Alysse!
