I just suggested here http://p223.ezboard.com/fsanthariafrm15.showMessage?topicID=335.topic to markojono to do a fur coat and I realized we have no clothing entries so I told him I would start a discusion here on how to do one. I think since no clothes have been developed it might be a good idea for someone to do some. I don't plan on doing any but this might be something easy for newbies.


Template for clothes

Overview
A brief  paragraph that describes the clothes. What do they cover? What are they worn with?

Appearance
What do they look like?

Location
Where can you find them worn?

Race, Tribe etc
Who wears these clothes?

Function / usage
Is this battle armor? Does it have a religous purpose? Does it keep you warm? Does it just protect modesty? Is it ornamental?

Material
What is it made out of? Plant material like cotton? Animal hides? Feathers? Metal?

Manufacturing process (optional)
For most you could say it is made by a skilled smith, tailor or amanter then mention what type of metal, fabric or feathers are used. If the process its made by gives it is properties you should talk about it though, for example steel armor that is stronger then most because of how it is forged or something that looks different because of how it is made.

History / Origin (optional)
What group first developed this? Why did they come up with these clothes and how have they changed in their culture?

Famous individuals who wear (optional)
I dont think this would be important unless your doing something like the "crown of king Santhos" where it is associated with an individual.

Myth / Lore (optional)
If this is a mythical item you need this.

I think that any mention of magical clothing should be left out of such a template. Magical anything requires a good bit of developement and this opens a door for any new people to the site the idea that creating such is a everyday thing. IMHO

Overall I like this idea and the template is well designed.

I don't think , that marcojono is around anymore.

Not a bad idea to create such a template - maybe more for armours than for clothes though. The problem might be, that you have to contact the tribe's creators, if they like your idea. You have to stick to what is already described in the tribe's entry as well.

However, it might be a bit of a waste of time to do it - if it is not a very special piece of dress. The  fur-coat could probably just be integrated in the tribe's description. I thought about the magical robe I described - not much to describe here and to fill your template.

Well, let us see who is inspired by this template - maybe I'm the first to use it!

Hmm - the recent queen's wedding dress - the kings official robe...

Talia, I think that such a template is a wonderful thing to see. Clothing design is an art IMHO and may be attractive to any such artists that are part of the site. Mind you it is highly unlikely that there will be droves of these artists, yet it is nice to see a base template for them if they should wish to practice their art. One day actually having images of the actual clothes of certain tribes with a detailed description might go a long way. Newcomers to the RP forums may be inspired to stay within their tribes dress if they could read and visualize what each tribe wears.

I had thought that you were somewhat strict on this subject in the RP forums ...... But I also think that other commentors there should take to heart your example.

Twen has a good point. Newbies seeing magic mentioned might deluge this board with all kinds of magic outfits so I took out any refference to magic. I figure anyone who's ready to develop something magical should be able to figure out where that would go. I also removed any refference to dragons. That way someone doesn't see that and decide to make a new dragon in a clothing entry.

Talia has a good point too about it needing to be a "very special piece of dress" . I don't know that it would have to be special but atleast unique enough to be interesting. The entry titled shirt would be boring.

When I made it I was thinking the most common outfits described would be armor and cerimonial outfits.

I also changed some of the language to make it less race specific. I was concerned someone might have a good idea for clothes worn by someone not human and think it was undoable.

I think is a good idea, cause when I started to make my character, I noticed that we don't have a "Santharian dresser" so to think, that in middle age the shirt didn't exist, but they covered theyr bodies with something, we need to know the name.
Also, for tipical dress and cloths, like a specific cut and color, I don't know, for special ocation in middle age they didn't have smokings (sorry for the word, traslator say it's say like that) do they? We need for special ocation in each tribe the wearings, because most of the tribe entries say "they were in this or that colors" but they don't state what they are wearing.

Well, I still think, that a short desciption of the general things a tribe wears is enough (like in my shendar entry). However, a tribe's outfit could be described in detail (oh wait, till the Avennorians are coming!) - it should still go under the tribe's main entry. But already then the template could be used, maybe a bit modificated.
The ceremonial dress for a special King could be a candidate for this templete though - or special armours.

However, if a tribe's outfit is described in more detail - it should still go under the tribe's main entry,  extra listed however. But already then the template could be used, maybe a bit modificated.
The ceremonial dress for a special King could be a candidate for this templete though - or special armours.

Yes that's true, just I thought that maybe Art didn't saw this alredy.
Then, I think we must end this, so to finish, this template would be used (if permited by the tribes creators) to describe general cloths used in X or Y tribe. Another aplication is the "important" clothing, like Kings or Qeens clothing when they got the trone.

It's a good idea, I like it, and I'm ready to try and make some clothes (after all they may be easier and with less fangs than the mythical beasts. )
