Please take a look at this sketch of Greybark the Brownie and his owl, Ookpik. I am planning on finishing this one with markers and/or colored pencils, so I would like everyone's opinion before I go much further. I am planning on changing the brownie's face to give him a more mischevious look. <img src=members.theglobe.com/dmcc/GREYBARK.JPG>

It's great! I love it! It was so hard to keep from laughing out loud in the office here when I accessed it. Thanks!

I am very glad that you liked it! I hope that it is what you pictured in your mind when you thought up your owl riding brownie. I will try to have the colored version complete by next week.

Well, of course its a bit different.....but I like it anyway. Like I never thought of the mousehead hat, and the facial features looked different than I imagined, but it looks really good. Remember the brownies skin, hair, and eyes will all be the same shade - in this case some kind of grey.
Thanks again!
P.S. Um. would it be possible to make Greybark a bit smaller? He should be less than a third of the height of the owl...he is 6 inch, owl is 21 inch....if its not too much trouble?

Just wanted to thank you again for your time, Aragorn! We've also met and discussed on ICQ a bit about the picture, which definitely turned out fine. I guess the coloring will improve the picture even more (yellow eyes vs the white of the snow owl...) Once again: great work!

By the way: Eventually there are slight bit too much muscles on the body of Greybark as I think that brownies are very agile but maybe not that strong as e.g. a human fighter would be. Just an idea. Maybe our brownie himself knows more - I just wanted to mention it here.

Nah, muscles are fine....a brownie's strenth would just be irrelevent to a big person....they could get killed by trying to arm wrestle with a big person, for example....I'm more concerned with the sizing.....
but however you decide, I am still delighted to have a pictorial representation of Greybark available...THANKS!!!!

I am very sorry that I gave you the impression that I was offended...mostly by the fact that I still haven't finished the darn picture. Sorry about that...I took a detour into capitalism. I tried my hand at selling a drawing on eBay. It didn't go for quite as much as I had hoped, but I did get a request for a couple of commissioned pieces from someone seeing the auction. I am hoping to make a little extra money to help with eventually getting a larger home. I promise that I won't abandon Santharia and I will try to get the picture finished this week. By the way, here is the web address to that drawing I auctioned off. If you get a chance, please take a look and let me know what you think. You can see it at members.theglobe.com/dmcc/WOLVERINE1.jpg

Very impressive! It looks very realistic, just like him. Wow -- you get to make money by drawing things!? Where did the rest of us go wrong? If I may ask, what was the winning bid?

Yup, wonderful picture indeed, Aragorn! And I guess it's only a start of a great salesman career at eBay *hehehe*

Suggestion: Eventually - when selling pictures - you should try to take into account what people would love most, e.g. - speaking from the fantasy point of view - dragons (there are hundreds of websites out there devoted to dragonkind only, so there must be potential buyers too) or typical fighters like Conan or e.g. a full armored black knight with a flaming sword on a black horse (such a picture would be one of my favourites) or something similar... I guess chances at making a good price would be much better when trying to follow the taste of the majority...

BTW: Speaking about commercialism. It is only a matter of time when we will have our www.santharia.com domain... This doesn't mean that Santharia is going to be commercialised, in fact it only means that you don't have to ponder some hours which URL is the currently right one and that my wallent is a little thiner every month.

On the other hand I guess it's a logical step as I think that whenever we continue some more years the way we do now (of course we would need some more enthusiastic members) we are up to something really big. When I write "a legacy to Tolkien's fantasy epics" I really mean it. If we're good enough Santharia could also work as a showcase for all our artists and help them to sell their works too...

er, Art....you do realize what a cult following X-men has, don't you? I'd say he definitely took his "customer base" into account.

Ah! Sorry 'bout this. Of course Americans are much more X-men-fans than Europeans are, I have to admit.

I did try to watch the market for a few weeks by checking eBay for original art to see what was bringing in the highest bids. I saw a lot of comic book related work doing pretty well, so that is what I thought I would try first. I saw that pose of Wolverine in a magazine and really liked it so I thought I would make it my first artwork purely for sale. There were only two bids on it so the winning bid wasn't quite as much as I had hoped ($26.00). I think that I will have to build a reputation to bring up the prices on my work. I think that getting published would really help a lot also. Someday maybe that will happen. I am planning on trying to do some color pieces next and I will probably be switching back and forth between fantasy originals and comic book related art. Perhaps some work used for Santharia may end up on the auction block too...with a link to the site of course. As I may have said, the whole reason I am doing this is to help finance a new home for my family. I have spent years investing money in comics, fantasy art books, portfolios, etc. so I thought that it was time to start making this hobby pay off a little. I have no illusions about fame and fortune...I just want to do better for my family.

Ah, too bad that internet is so restricted in China, Ferra. Can't be much fun surfing the web that way if Big Brother's watching you... Hope you enjoy your stay nevertheless!

Hi, dear Arti and other developers!

This year I am in China and cannot use any Google services including YouTube. For this reason I stopped uploading new Nepris videos. I can also not read any comments there.

It just crossed my mind that this information might be useful to you.

Cheers
