Well, almost everything expands with heat. The exceptions are substances like water that are larger in solid form than in liquid form, so when ice is heated, it gets smaller. However, when going from a liguid to a gas, water expands. Mercury is just useful because its so dense for a liquid; our school uses thermometers that have something inside of them that isn't mercury, but for some reason I can't think of the name.

Are they alcohol filled, because studies have proven mercury is detrimental to the environment. Zinc is another one that is used.

Mercury makes you pretty much lose your mind.

Ever heard of the Mad Hatter?

Rayne yes I've heard of mad as a hatter. As far as I know it first originated in England, because they used to clean the hats that way. When people wore them, they became a little batty. I think that's where Lewis Carol got the idea in the first place. Maybe Wren can correct me here?

I said alcahol, because mercury has a tendency to disrupt the environment. Schools use substitutes in their thermometers for a reason. ;)

One time someone broke a thermometer and didn't tell the teacher. It was a mess. The kid got thrown out of the class and special people had to come and clean up the mercury with special equipment.

That's my little story. ^_^''

How much heat can alcohol really withstand? There must be some downside to the use of alcohol or else it would be used in place of mercury.

The downside is theft is high, because hobo's can drink it instead of wood thinner. :lol

I suppose we can always make up an element with the same properties of mercury, then call it something else. o.o' That might work.

Why not use mercury?
I'm sure it can be mined or something

I really think we should change the name. Mercury doesn't sound very Santharian to me.

It's a standard metal!

Maybe we could call it quicksilver, like they did in our own middle ages.

Quicksilver would work, I suppose. I just don't see how we would relate "mercury" to anything. Now how would we do an entry on quicksilver and what would the entry contain..?

Ah, too bad that internet is so restricted in China, Ferra. Can't be much fun surfing the web that way if Big Brother's watching you... Hope you enjoy your stay nevertheless!

Hi, dear Arti and other developers!

This year I am in China and cannot use any Google services including YouTube. For this reason I stopped uploading new Nepris videos. I can also not read any comments there.

It just crossed my mind that this information might be useful to you.

Cheers
