THE
URBAN
TREE |
Urban Trees are enormous and dominant, stick stumped bark trees, which can grow to gigantic thickness levels over decades. Characteristic for Urban Trees aside from the enormous breadths they can reach are their roots spreading over the surface of the whole forest ground. They grow deep down in the woods, one of the most prominent Urban Trees lies in the Auturian Forest, where it was made into the Ria, the main building of the Tethinrhim Elves.

Appearance. A large thick stumped bark tree
with large green leaves which are round at the base and have five points on the
outside. The leaves are large and soft to touch, have a
round edge where they connect to the tree.
After they reach a certain undefined height Urban trees begin to grow in breadth rather
than height. Sometimes grown in a restricted space the roots of the Urban tree
grow above the ground, creating an elaborate maze or spooky hollows throughout
the woods. Urban trees quite often can
become hundreds of years old.
The tree also produces a fruit similar to an apple, called the
"Voral" in the human tongue
and Dél’injèrá ("Magic
Sun") in Styrásh. It is sweet tasting and creamy red in colour. The fruit is surrounded by a tough
cocoon, which protects the fruit inside from the long fall to the ground.
In-between the cocoon and the fruit is a honey-like liquid.

Territory.
The Urban Tree grows in
woody areas. The largest one known is situated inside the
Auturian Forest, where it was made into the
Ria (the largest building in the forest
which houses the sovereign of the
elven
Tethinrhim tribe).

Usages. When chopped
up into smaller pieces for putting in a fire, Urban Tree wood is very
economical. For a small amount of wood the fire can burn for hours. In spite of
this you would need to start the fire with something that produces a great
flame, as it is difficult to get the wood burning, but not impossible.
The wood is also relatively moderate when it comes to the handling:
it is difficult to
master, but it produces some fantastic wood works.
It is also quite weather resistant.
Therefore the Urban
Tree is often used by elves
for making houses in the trees. By either carving into the trunk of the tree, or
building adding on to the trunk. Often both carving inside and adding on are
done. Growing in close proximity to each other the Urban Trees' roots system is very complex, each tree intertwining with the neighbouring
tree.
The leaves of the Urban Tree are often used for one-use washcloths, wrapping
around wounds as a temporary bandage or underneath the bandage itself. It is
said to have a soothing effect on bruised or tender skin of any race. Also
useful for temporary headache and muscular pains when made into a tea.
The sap in the middle of the cocoon and the voral can be used to pour over an
open wound to help with the healing process. Its not an antiseptic however
that aids with
the healing.

Myth/Lore. It is often said that the Urban Tree was first created when the
Tethinrhim tribe first came to the
Auturian Forest by an
elf Named Na’Pheran
("She-Tree").
Realising that it wouldn’t be viable for her fellow tribe members to live on the
ground with safety, she focused on the powers of the Earth and created a forest
of large living house trees.
