A Shendar Mural

Image description:

The Shendar Muralists are rare variety of the Sand Painters, because their only realm of work is Uderza, though they got some commissions lately from people living in Varcopas and Bardavos. It is a quite young art, invented by a sand painter about three hundred years ago who started to apply her sand paintings to the rounded walls of the dome shaped houses in Uderza. The sand is pressed into the freshly plastered wall and stays there for quite some time - contrary to the original sand pictures. Sometimes the pictures are given a slight relief which looks quite nice, when the sun's rays are touching it under a very flat angle. The young Uderza woman is again a well loved motive.
