THE R'UNORIAN NAVY |
The R'unorian Navy, one of the strongest navies in the world, has made up for its lack of resources, and therefore small numbers of ships, through both the incorporation of steel and iron in the outer hull and the internal structure of vessels (one must understand that in R'unor wood is actually more expensive by volume than iron). Another reason why the R'unorian Navy is so powerful lies in the fact that the R'unorians do not adapt the traditional boarding or steady bombardment tactics but prefer swift hit and run attacks and ambushes.

Not all ships of this mighty kingdom are of military use
however. Quite to
the contrary: Many
interesting merchant vessels and even passenger ships
call the ports of R'unor
home, some are even of unique designes, built exclusively
in these isles.
Below is a short list of the basic types of vessels found
in the R'unorian armada
and merchant fleets (listed in order of
the average size of the vessel):
River Bardge
These vessels are just that simple bardges used for transporting cargo up rivers.
They are usually rectangular with
flat bottoms that aid in tranversing the shallower water.
They are completely unsuited
for deep ocean travel.
Scout Ship
Smallest of the
R'unorian fleet's
vessels, suitable for deep ocean travel, these ships have
extremly small crews (3-4 average) and measure only 10 or
12 peds from bow to stern. They
are used - as the name already
implies - for short range scouting
for merchant or military vessels that almost always can be
found acompaning it.
Corsair
Small highspeed vessel, designed for hit and run attacks.
These ships usually
measure 50 or 60 peds from bow to stern and are armed with a solitary catapult
on a special rotating platform. as well as 4 ballista
implacements, one facing port, one starboard, one forward
and one aft.
Merchant Freighter
Measuring 70-80 peds bow to stern and 50-60
port-starboard these vessels are designed to hold massive
amounts of cargo, both grains and wood and other raw materials
to the Isles of R'unor
and finely crafted finished goods from the
Isles.
These ships make up the bulk of the
R'unorian
merchant fleet. Sometimes they may be
converted into troop transports during war-time.
Warship
100-120 peds from bow to stern these ships are usually
reserved for defensive of support rolls to the more agile corsairs.
Warships have 2 gundecks with a
complement of up to 10 or even 20 ballistas as well as
three rotating catapult platforms.
Dreadnaught
These ships are huge vessels, but
also sluggish.
Dreadnaughts measure usually between 200 and 220
peds bow to stern and 150-160 port to starboard.
They have 5 gundecks and
carry 20+ stationary ballista
implacements and 4 rotating
catapult implacements... However,
their primary function
is to serve as landing platforms
for lurker divisions
allowing for greater range in flight. There
exist only a small handfull of these mamoth ships in the
R'unorian armada and
their class is being discontinued in the near future
due to high maintenance costs and
limited applications.
