Add thy Seasalt and Peppercorn as thou likest, and leave the whole to set from dusk to dawn. Put in thy morning’s meat, whate’er it be - though pig is best grilloched so – and let soak till roasting time. Tis a sweet, strong taste that pleaseth men’s tongues and doth not encourage much drink, as grilloch with Mus'krrraghi may often do; so may thy cellar be not overly strained at feasting time…


(Erpheronian Sweet Steak)

Passed down through generations of Erpheronians, Sweet Steak is a delicacy which by custom is usually only eaten on local holidays such as Armerenda, Foyrocar, and the Day of Avis, for it is so expensive that only

 

royals can afford to have it on the table
regularly. While most of the ingredients are not expensive - in fact the sauce is now made and served with other meats for Restday dinners - the meat itself is hard to obtain as it has to be transported some distance. Sometimes a meat transport is even targeted by bandits who know they can resell the boar cutlets for a hefty profit!

The Sweetsauce which gives this steak its unique flavour was said to have been popularized many years ago, by a young merchant's wife who wanted to make her husband something special for winning the tournament held on the Armerenda. So she made the sauce from a jam receipt which she dug up from a long-forgotten family cookbook, and marinated her cut of boar in the result. After the merchant finished his meal and learned what his wife had created, he began bragging about it to all his friends, whose wives in turn begged for the receipt. Although a number of folk were skeptical at first, 'the truth is in the tasting', as the saying goes, and it soon spread
