2006 - The Year of the Big Forum Changes

Examples of this year's pictures

New Year Statement. The past year 2006 - or 1666 a.S. according to the Santharian Calendar - was a year that brought dramatic changes to the Dream, be it on the technical side or on key issues regarding organization and development progress.

As for the technical stuff: During summer and autumn we managed to finally get rid of the two Dev and RPG ezBoards and migrate both pretty large Forums to a completely customized own SMF solution on the Santharian server. In the long run this doesn't only reduce costs, it also increases the amount of Forum features we can offer (like shoutbox, spellchecker, much more individual Forum profiles etc.) - plus we can finally back up data ourselves and are not relying anymore on dubious backup practices of others. Late 2006 also forced us to move the site to a new provider after several troubling experiences, which so far has fully paid off, so that everything - site, two forums, guestbook, e-mails etc. - are all hosted on one single server solution.

Regarding development progress: We are proud that Talia managed to organize another real-life Santhmoot in Germany with a bunch of European participants. There we made essential progress on sketching further Santharian history details. The stuff we elaborated will go up on the site bit by bit in the coming months. Precondition for that to happen however  is a complete revision of the way we organize history on the site, and by the end of 2006 this work could be completed and the new menu structure is already uploaded by now, we only need to add more data. Other great dev achievements this year: a complete Library rework was initiated, first zoomable Flash maps done, quite a bunch of new tribe pictures in our tribes drawing project were finished and more details added to the entries, a brand new Styrásh font substituted the old one - and the essential groundworks of the coming interactive Flash experience "Santhworld" could be laid. Three valuable new permanent members have had their inauguration parties, moderators to Forum sections and project definitions were introduced, resulting in (hopefully) better development organization in general.

I'm also happy to announce progress with the Juju Fund, where we have gathered so far 2.360 EUR ($3.083)! A hearty "Thank you!" goes to all contributers! - All the best for 2007, may the new year be as fruitful as the one before! - Artimidor, Santharian Webmaster
