Site Update of September 17th 2006 by Artimidor

Pictures included in this week's update

Update Statement. And here we go with another update: Fresh from the Thaelon we bring you a picture of Treanais, the first illustrated Santharian light elf (done by Eratin) to go with a story written by Wren already a while ago. Also illustrated (this one by Arbaon) is a new entry of Nsikigan, the Chain Mail entry. And finally illustration number three comes from our latest artistical discovery, Olooriel, who helped out with sketches for the Basiloc Herb. Rhaki got his very first entry up this week, the Ptoria Weed, and Ishmelion is also back with another plant, the Már'kál Waterfruit. Important stuff was also added to the entry on the Erpheronians - you'll find Tribal Language details now there, plus help with Nomenclature, definitely a must read for all aspiring Erpheronian role playing characters in search of a proper name (done mainly by Bard Judith and Artimidor).

In the next updates you can expect further Tribal Language details on other Santharian tribes like for example the Avennorians or the Eyelians. In the works are also entries on the onager siege engine, on a sword artifact, on various drakes and birds - and we'll move slowly but surely towards the installation of a new History section. See you next update!

Bestiary Added entry on the Scattersand Ray, a ray found in the waters of the Scattersand Shoals (Jonael)
Herbarium Updated entry on the Basiloc, adding Reproduction section and an illustration of the plant as found in Claudirea Greenoak's sketchbook (Kareesh Valendar, pic Olooriel)
entry on the Már'kál Waterfruit, a thorny, water storing desert plant (Ishmaelion)
entry on the Ptoria Weed, a fast growning, thorny bush (Rhaki Tekashi)
Magic Added Level 1 Earth Spell - Sanguinary Block to our magic spells collection (Drasil Razorfang)
Level 7 Wind Spell - Riding the Wind to our magic spells collection (Mina Ailwyn)
Misc. Added entry on the Chain Mail, a common kind of armour, which is often combined with other types, thus allowing good protection and flexibility (Nsikigan Yourth, pic Arbaon)
Races/Tribes Updated entry on the Erpheronians, adding two new sections: Tribal Language and Nomenclature, giving insights on the Aerpherian dialect of the Tharian tongue and providing details on how Erpheronian names, ranks and titles are constructed (Artimidor & Bard Judith)
Library Started off a new book titled "The Elven Myths of the Mčne'teká" and transferred a first story into it, Wren's "The Beginning of Destiny". Wren was also added to the Library's Authors Index. This story was also updated with an illustration of Eratin showing the ligh elf Treanais. Eratin's picture was also added to the entry on the Astyrhim Light Elves, which however is still a work in progress and partly inaccurate (Artimidor, pic Eratin)
Started off a new book titled "The Shendar Book of Myths", converting the existing single Library page. All five existing stories were transferred into it and are now available as single page and in downloadable format. The stories were written by Talia Sturmwind and Firewyre, who also got their Library Authors Index started (Artimidor)

Pictures included in this week's update

Update Statement. Returning from our real-life meeting of Santhmoot 2006 we get back now to regular development work and can offer you a fresh new update: Check out for example Irid's latest entry, the Order of the Wings, or the dangerous Groshmite, an omnivorous insect (illustrated by Quellion) - or take a look at Decipher's mysterious Bloodstones, a rare mineral used to help with creating really powerful weapons... Or are you looking for stories to read? How about Elen's "Why Yearturn is Celebrated" or if you don't want to miss any installment of Dalá's hilarious "Magic and Murder" series, we've got Letter No. 8 for you! We also would like to welcome Jonael (Saltstalker), Kareesh (Basiloc) and Valan Nonesuch (with the already mentioned Groshmite) officially to the site, now that their first entries are up! Oh, and a hearty welcome back to Ralhag, who has returned after three years of absence, delivering the Hargive Deer.

What's next? It will still last a while until the results of our Santhmoot history discussions can be uploaded in decent form on the site. Further work on details and indirectly related stuff (for example on name conventions for various tribes) is necessary to complete these rough timelines we've laid out, plus a design revision of the History section is necessary to accomodate everything and guarantee easy updating in the future. A few photos of the past meeting should also make it on the site sooner or later, so watch out!

Bestiary Added entry on the Groshmite, an omnivorous insect of northern Santharia that lives in swarms and can be quite unpleasant to encounter (text Valan Nonesuch & Artimidor, pic Quellion)
entry on the Hargive Deer, a thick-bodied deer found in Northern Sarvonia. The Deer Overview was also updated accordingly (Ralhag)
entry on the Saltstalker, a common groundbird of the Sarvonian south (Jonael)
Herbarium Added entry on the Basiloc, a small, abundantly herb of Sarvonia (Kareesh Valendar)
entry on the Keelo Tree, a succulent tropical fruit of the Kreans (Decipher Ziron)
History Updated entry on the War of the Chosen, substituting old ink picture with a new image depicting one of the Chosen. Entry itself still needs revision (pic Quellion)
Misc. Added entry on the Bloodstone, a peculiar mineral of southwestern Nybelmar used to augment rare weapons with deadly capabilities (Decipher Ziron)
People Added entry on the Order of the Wings, an ancient Eyelian order of exclusively female warriors fighting on the back of trained gryphs (Irid alMenie)
Library Started off a new book for the already existing epistolary novel on the site "Magic and Murder. Letters of an Erpheronian Noblewoman". While the previous letters are not yet included in the new book (coming soon!), a brand new installment "Letter No. 8" was put already into the new book. If you've missed the previous letters, check them out for now in our Treasures and Oddities section (Dalá'Valannía)
Started off a new book titled "Stories of Yearturn" and added a first story to it, the "Why Yearturn is Celebrated - A Grandfather's Gift". This new book will gather all kinds of myths, legends, folktales and poems dealing with one of the most celebrated natural events in Caelereth, the Yearturn, the beginning of the new cycle (Elendilwyn)
"Chapter 4: Winter's End" of the "Katya Dragonseeker" novel, adding an illustration depicting the winter of the Year of Darkness (pic Faugar)

Pictures included in this week's update

Update Statement. Taking a "break" from further Message Board related works, we bring you an update this week and collect a few things that have amassed in the meantime while we've been busy with transferring data from the old Dev Board. - So what have we got? For example complete revisions of quite old entries by Gean Firefeet, be it the Desert Rose, its rare black variety or the adventurous character Frigord the Weird in the People section. Plus Gean also delivered the mp3 version of the background music for our Santharian Teaser movie, which he titled "A View from Griffin's Marl". Decipher strikes with his contributions #2 and #3, the Kitjuran Tree and the very unique and interestingly different Krog Draught Beast. Also an important addition is Nsikigan's first contribution, the Leather Armour entry, finally giving our rangers a bit of officially described protection. Pictures come this time from Bard Judith, who has illustrated the Waterwheel entry with an idyllic mill, and Quellion, who gave Ta "The Beast" Ivashi his ugly face in the Ruins of Karthmor entry.

What are our next plans? Well, starting on Friday the 11th of August another Santharian gathering will take place in Landshut (Germany) at Talia's home, lasting for approximately one week! Santhmoot II will be a smaller meeting with participants from Europe only and the focus will be discussions on historical developments after the foundation of the Santharian Kingdom. Well, we hope to finally be able to make some substantial progress there with the help of members from the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Greece, Austria and from whereever else people can manage to join us at our great Santharian workshop. - If you're a member watch out for some photos in the Moot section next week!

Bestiary Added entry on the Krog, a unique draught beast of Nybelmar (Decipher Ziron)
entry on the Sandroller, a small furry creature of the Ráhaz-Dáth (Ishmaelion)
Herbarium Updated entry on the Black Desert Rose, a semi-mythical plant of the Ráhaz-Dáth, now completely revised (Gean Firefeet)
Added entry on the Desert Rose, a rare rose variety, growing in the Ráhaz-Dáth desert in southern Sarvonia (Gean Firefeet)
Added entry on the Kitjuran Tree, another tropical tree of Nybelmar (Decipher Ziron)
entry on the Strangling Vine, one of the most noticeable vines of the Nybelmarian jungles (Miraran Tehuriden)
Misc. Updated entry on the Waterwheel, adding illustration of an idyllic mill (pic Bard Judith)
entry on Leather Armour, our very first standard armour entry, representing a major step towards proper categorization in this field (Nsikigan Yourth & Artimidor, pic Quellion)
Music Added new musical piece "A View from Griffin's Marl" to our Places theme collection, the mp3 version of our Santharian Teaser music (music Gean Firefeet)
People Updated entry on Frigord the Weird, expanding this ancient entry considerably and making it fit to our new development scheme (Gean Firefeet)
Places Updated entry on the Ruins of Karthmor, adding additional picture, showing the notorious Ta Ivashi, the "Beast", half-demon and necromancer (pic Quellion)
Library Started off a new book titled "Santhalan Bedtime Stories" and added a first story to it, "The Rimrunner that Saved a Village" (Alysse the Likely, pic Bard Judith)
Started off a new romances book titled "Lovers True and Fated" and added a first story to it, the "The Tale of Mi'khran and Dilluar" (Ishmaelion)
all existing Author's Overviews adding golden frame around the author images, also starting Author Indexes for Alysse the Likely and Ishmaelion. Also new book graphics were added to the most recently added books (Artimidor, pics Faugar)
Tribes Updated entry on the Avennorian Men, updating Weapons section (Stormraven)
Website During the past two weeks several further adjustments have been made at our new Development Forum, be it new graphics, icons or introduction of new features and updates on the layout. Adjustments are still in progress, though (Artimidor)

Against all odds...

Update Statement. Against all the strong winds blowing into our direction, we've finally accomplished the long overdue Message Board switch, for now concerning the Development Board only. Since last Thursday the official SMF replacement is active, and the former ezBoard slowly but surely will fall now into oblivion if everything works out as planned. You can access the new Development Board here, and it features lots of new stuff for you to discover, enjoy and hopefully make your life on the Santharian Forum easier. - Please note however that the setup and the design of the board still is in progress, so various things will change before they become definite, however, all the data from the old board has been transferred by now, and the basic things have been configured by now. It was not easy, but finally we've made it! Attention: If you've registered on the old board make sure to send an e-mail to webmaster@santharia.com in order to receive a temporary password from the Webmaster in order to guarantee that you can claim your old username. At any rate: Just have a look around at the new board and see to get used to everything that is new!

Other important works added in this quite uncharacteristic update are the complete rework of the Weapons & Armours section of the
Miscellaneous menu or the complete newly presented book version of "The Tale of Katya Dragonseeker" by Dalá. And finally we have the very first entry done by our diligent newbie Zacheius! Guess these things will keep you busy until the next update, eh?

Bestiary Added entry on the Ancythrian Spinneedler, a dart-like spinning fish, which can be found in the Witchking's Waters exclusively (Zacheius Aquadel)
Library Converted all currently available chapters of "The Tale of Katya Dragonseeker" story to the new Library format, including the Appendices. All 7 chapters, the appendices and the full book with its 129 pages are available for download as well. Some edits are still in progress, so parts of the story might still be updated within the next weeks (Artimidor, teasers Dalá'Valannía)
Website Switched to a brand new SMF message board for Santharian Development, converting all the data from our previous ezBoard. The redesign of the new message board is still in progress (Artimidor)
Reoganized the Weapons & Armour part in the Miscellaneous menu completely according to the suggestions of various members. This menu part therefore is now also expandable and collapseable and features 15 sub-categories allowing you to find e.g. various kinds of swords, polearms, throwing weapons or even siege engines much faster and efficiently. However, better overview pages still need to be done, which will be a task for later (Artimidor, Drasil and Ruil)

Pictures included in this update

Update Statement. Still the World Cup and the fact that holidays begin world wide takes its toll on contributions and the commenting situation, however, we once again have some gems for you this time: For example you might want to check out the detailed entry on Santharian Gemstones (see, gems indeed!), or have a look at the Sawis Sheep - both entries have been illustrated by Bard Judith. Drasil brings us the Quarterstaff, your webmaster the last 30 photos of Santhmoot 2005 - and if you're looking for more tales to read or download, you'll find a lot more this week, be it the updated Frethoni Book of Fables (fables), the brand new Master Tribell's Miraculous Narrations (fairy-tales), Lurking in the Mists (ghost stories) or Of Sailors and Merfolk (folk tales of the sea). Plus language fans will find 60 more Styrásh words in the dictionary, and in our Songs of Merriment collection a song of the Kuglimz awaits written by Alysse!

In the next updates we plan of course to make further progress with our Library rework, reorganize and categorize the Weapons section of the Miscellaneous menu a bit, finish some plants and beasts and hope for another completed story of Elendilwyn. The Zarathian Dagger longs for integration, and a bunch of spells will hopefully make it as well... We'll see! - Be there next update to check!

Bestiary Updated entry on the Sawis Sheep, adding illustration. Also the Sheep Overview was updated featuring the new picture as well (pic Bard Judith)
Herbarium Updated entry on the Waterfruit Tree, adjusting final details (Miraran Tehuriden)

Library Added poem "Song of Joy and Welcome" to our Songs of Merriment collection (Alysse the Likely)
Coverted several library pages into the new book format, also updating existing books with further illustrations and improved design. So far the following books have been added or updated: The Frethoni Book of Fables (fables), Master Tribell's Miraculous Narrations (fairy-tales), Lurking in the Mists (ghost stories), Of Sailors and Merfolk (folk tales of the sea).
