Miraran Tehuriden

Special Announcement. Listen up, folks, as it's time for another official welcome to a new permanent member of the Santharian Dream development team! Our most recent member didn't have the advantages of an official mentor for himself due to the fact that veteran members are quite busy lately or already have a bunch of apprentices assigned. Nevertheless there was not doubt that we'd get another official Dreamer confirmed soon - so congratulations on joining go to Miraran Tehuriden from Utrecht, Netherlands!

Miraran has delivered no less than five Bestiary entries within the last months and four Herbarium contributions. Plus he also finished an exquisit Places entry on the Drifting Woods of Nybelmar these days, which has been officially approved as masterwork by one of the Masters of Nybelmar, Coren. Additionally he has commented regularly on other people's works helping them to get their stuff right and ready for the updates. This also earned him the position of second Herbarium Moderator on the side of our busy Bard Judy. We're looking forward to further contributions in the region Mira has layed out and elaborated already bit by bit to make the picture whole.

Of course
the Santharians are once again cordially invited to join Mira's Inauguration Party at the Santharian Development Board and to welcome our new member. Be there! - Coren, inofficial Mentor & Artimidor, Webmaster

Update Statement. After a successful RPG Board transfer in the last weeks to a new board on the Santharian server we have a Nybelmar and Aeruillin special this week: Be it the Living Sand (by Miraran), the Mlor'el (Navar) or the Needle Fly in the Bestiary (Decipher), or weapons like the Shatterhead Arrow or the Miraje Finger Blade (both Decipher) and the Zarathian Dagger (Drasil), Nybelmar and Aeruillin get their share this time. Also Drasil finished part one of his masterwork project, an entry on the renegade wind mage Raeis Boldsnout, creator of the Children of the Mind.

In the next weeks we hope to have some Places entries for you, like Keep Mistrash at the Mithral Mountain Range or the Village of Sunth on the Manthrian east coast. Some new aquatic races are also in the works by Talia, Twen is refining a new new spell - and at the end of the year the traditional "Best of" overview awaits, including a look back on this year's Santhmoot with some photos to enjoy!

Website The migration of the RPG board from the old ezBoard to the new SMF board on the Santharian server was successfully completed. While the most basic things work by now and many players have already claimed their characters and get accustomed with the new board, there are still many things to adjust and improve, which will keep us busy for several more weeks (Artimidor Federkiel and the RPG Admins Mina,Talia & Kalina)

Important Announcement of November 22nd 2006

Like phoenix out of the ashes...

Pheeewwww... A long week of development standstill finally comes to an end, so get some cookies, doch nuts and dwarven ale ready for a little celebration! After several days of uncertainty on how to continue with Santharia, given the troubles with our previous host, we now are happy to announce that we're finally up and running on a brand new server! Far, far away from Inmotionhosting.com and their questionable support, I can assure you.

As you can see the Development Board is already back online, as is the site of course, and final adjustments are in the works and should be completed very soon. We will also start the migration of the RPG ezBoard to SMF as soon as possible. The move had been scheduled already a while ago, but unfortunate circumstances prevented us from continuing as planned. Now that we're back again on a stable system, we will try to push forward the transfer of the role playing data, so that we have all two message boards on the same server as the site itself. - Let's hope we're on this server for good, cheers!

Contemplating a server change

The future of the Santharian Dream is at stake. Due to the size of the site and the resources the site and the Development Forums need, it won't be possible anymore to maintain the Santharian Dream at the current server. Whether it is possible to migrate site and/or the current Dev Forum to another affordable solution is unclear at this point and has to be investigated thoroughly.

As a first measure the SMF Development Board has been deactivated (backups should be made very soon) and we've reactivated our old Dev ezBoard as a temporary solution. This should take some load from the server, how much remains to be seen, but we'll have to investigate further measures. We have time until November the 30th, then the domain will cease to exist if we don't have a proper solution on where to store the site data.

So if you're looking for the Dev Board, then please bookmark the new Dev Board, which you can find here (or click on the Development Forum book). - We'll discuss further things at the board, so see you there! -- Artimidor, (still) Santharian Webmaster

Pictures included in this week's update

Update Statement. This week's update is the first one after our migration of the site and the Development Board to a brand new server. Fortunately everything went smoothly, so the RPG Board transfer will follow very soon (see more in the Coming Up section below). Aside from that we are proud to finally have a face for our famous King Thar the Great (drawn by Eratin) and also have made a major step forward in terms of History re-organisation, regarding menu structure and page design. The first re-designed time tables for various tribes (Erpheronians, Avennorians etc.) have been uploaded already, along with a - so far still fragmentary - example on how we plan to organize the menu. - Looking for stuff to ready? Then check out Irid's lovely story "The Farmer and the Domovidge"! Entry record this week is held by Arceon by the way, who contributed the Moonmouth Worm, the funny "Svaq and Kuatu" card game and and a Places entry on Nolan's Farm, and Baromosa got his very first entry up, the Kanapan Terror Bats!

Coming Up. What's next? - Well, there's basically one big thing that will happen, everything else will be put on the backburner. Within the coming weeks the RPG Board will finally be migrated from ezBoard to a new SMF Board, and it will be hosted on our own Santharian server. It will be very similar in appearance and handling to the Development Board, so it will take its time to get acquainted to the new environment, but I'm sure you'll soon see the advantages in comparison to the old, often time very problematic ezBoard. Please note as well that the transfer will put the RPG Board more or less out of order for several days, so please be prepared for some breaks in your Santharian role playing until everything is completed!

Bestiary Added entry on the Chorakee Bird, the Nybelmarian jungle's answer to the taenish - a fat and tasty bird of the Drifting Woods (Miraran Tehuriden)
Added entry on the Kanapan Terror Bat, a larger, more intelligent variety of the bat (Baromosa)
Added entry on the Moonmouth Worm, a monster of the Sveltash Desert in Aeruillin (Arceon)
History The History menu design has now been initiated and a preview can be seen already on the site (click on the History icon, then select "New Menu" on top). While still fragmentary what concerns the categorization and content, you find already the menu structure at the Continents submenu and first era descriptions and evens there. Larger time tables were also added already at various tribes, especially at the Avennorians and the Erpheronians. Please note that the History rework will take a while until the old menu can be removed, but expect more content and features to be added in the course of the next weeks! (Artimidor)
Library Added the fairy-tale "The Farmer and the Domovidge" to the collection "Master Tribell's Miraculous Narrations", recounting the story of a man and his miserliness, whose life should unexpectedly change for the better... (Irid alMenie)
Misc. Added entry on the card game Svaq and Kuatu, a gnomish card game, involving the sober-making svaq drink and kuatu squirrels as elements of the cards (Arceon)
People Added 3 pictures to our story-teller Master Tribell, illustrating his well-known "Miraculous Narrations" (pics Quellion)
entry on the Merchant Daimen Athsinth, famous founder of the "Mithral Minnow" inn at the village of Aesthran (Eatherion)
entry on King Thar the Great, the most famous king of Centoraurians and Erpheronians alike, and later unitor of four kingdoms to form the Tharian kingdom (pic Eratin)
Places Added entry on Nolan's Farm, the legendary gnomish Svaq Brewery in Manthria (Arceon)
entry on the Village of Aesthran, adjusting further details regarding Aesthran station (Eatherion)
Website The complete website has been migrated to a brand new v-dedicated server this week, allowing better performance and new features like a spellchecker on the Dev Board. The move was also necessary in order to prepare a soon to come transfer of the RPG Board to SMF, away from our current unloved Forum host, ezBoard. (Artimidor)

Pictures included in this week's update

Update Statement. This update we focus on magic stuff and can offer three new spells from different elements plus a complete revision of Brownie Magic, realized by Mina, based on Greybark's initial ideas. An interesting first entry comes from Liana, the "truth-telling" R'unorian Rose, another bizarre thing from these isles, so no big surprise there... Fascinating stuff is also brewed by gnomes at a Manthrian farm near Ciosa: the legendary sober-making Svaq Drink (Arceon's very first entry)! Also two more newcomers tell us about a weapon of the Chosen, the Midnight Blade (Kain Cristar) and about the famous "Mithral Minnow" inn at the village of Aesthran, the last stop for travellers before crossing the Mithral Mountains through Crazy Woman Pass. Oh, and better not try the Queprur's Love mushroom (drawn by Quellion) - you were warned!

What can we expect next? Well, Eratin's King Thar portrait missed this week's update by nailsbreadth, so it is likely to show up very, very soon... - or isn't it? Irid works on another tale, the famous brewery of Nolan's Farm is in the works, Santhtalk might get a user interface and show up for the first time on the site to allow you a stroll through Nepris, and, and, and... Well, just let's wait and see what more surprises the next update holds!

Bestiary Added entry on the Jhomcholan Diver, the waterdog of the Cholian tribe (Drasil Razorfang)
entry on the Jupa Ape, a cute monkey of the rainforests of Shar in Nybelmar (Decipher Ziron)
entry on the Oloy, an intelligent, elusive aquatic mammel (Miraran Tehuriden)
Herbarium Added entry on the R'unorian Rose, a plant said to be a proclaimer of truth, with its petals changing colours according to the moods of the people surrounding it (Liana)
entry on Queprur's Love, adding plant illustration (pic Quellion)
Magic Added entry on Brownie Magic, a detailed overview on the Memnoor Brownie magic system, prevalent at the edge of the Ethereal Void (Mina Aylwin)
Level 1 Earth Spell - Sanguinary Block, adding illustration (pic Faugar)
Level 3 Fire Spell - Edict of Terror to our magic spells collection (Thorgas Ironforge)
Added Level 8 Water Spell - Ice Barrage to our magic spells collection (Zacheius Aquadel)
Misc. Added entry on the Midnight Blade, a powerful artifact of the Chosen (Kain Cristar)
Added entry on the Svaq Drink, a revolutionary sober-making gnomish drink (Arceon)
Places Added entry on the Village of Aesthran, a Manthrian fishing settlement on the Olantani River, know for its famous in, "The Mithral Minnow". The Manthrian Map was also updated in the process of adding Aesthran, so that it now features Aesthran and Aesthran Station, another small hamlet, which will be loosely connected to Aesthran (Eatherion)

Pictures included in this week's update

Update Statement. Elves, dwarves and ogres we can offer this update to add to our Races and Tribes section! Take a look for example at the Shadow Elves, which were illustrated by Quellion and their eerie home, the ruins of the ancient Empire of F'v'cl'r. Regarding the dwarves we have Belief details including an illustration of a dwarven funeral by Arbaon. And Ralhag has worked on the Gob-Ur-Nak Ogres, on a perhaps a bit untypical kind of ogres, at home in the Imlith Mountains of Northern Sarvonia. The Shendar also receive a new weapon, the Double Kilij, which they also use to practice their famous sworddance. We've also started a new book by Ishmaelion, of which you can read the first chapter already, the "The Tale of Gark and his Love". More to come!

Nearly finished is also a portrait of the famous King Thar on which Eratin is working. This image will for sure show up in one of the coming updates! In progress still is a brand new movie, which we've named "Santhtalk" - it will offer you to talk in an interactive way with contemporary Santharian celebreties, get information and perhaps even experience an adventure or two. Plus it is dynamically expandable with pre-defined dialogues by developers and even by role players. - See you next update!

Races/Tribes Added entry on the Dwarven Belief, providing details on dwarven religion and rituals like Aging and Funerals related to the belief in the Almighty Forge-Lord Trum-Baroll. The entry was also illustrated with a dwarven funeral illustration (Bard Judith, pic Arbaon)
Added entry on the Gob-Ur-Nak Ogres, a small, but fierce tribe of ogres inhabiting the Imlith Mountains area in Northern Sarvonia (Ralhag)
Updated entry on the Shadow Elves, adding full-sized tribe illustration. The Elven Tribes of Northern Sarvonia Overview was also updated featuring the new picture (pic Quellion)
