Danner walked toward the tilting field where the archery competition was taking place. As they drew closer Danner tossed the reins of Thor to his brother and took his quiver and bow from the saddle. He swung the strap to the quiver over one shoulder and took his bow out of the hard leather casing he kept it in. He then removed the oil cloth from his weapon. Danner carefully repacked the oil cloth and made sure it was still in good condition. He grinned and stepped ahead of his brother, making his way toward the man in charge.

"Excuse me, good sir, but are you still accepting applicants for this event? Also, what is the distanced from the line to the target?" Danner asked.

Nogra Ungorra

Nogra looked up from the excitement of the last shot to see a young man walking away from a horse and and towards him.  The man holding the horse looked almost identical in both age and colouring, though obviously only one of them was an archer.

"Excuse me, good sir, but are you still accepting applicants for this event? Also, what is the distanced from the line to the target?"

“Why, yes of course my good man” the events master replied, wondering why this man needed to know the distance so exactly; surely he could see how far it was himself?  Well, never mind, these travelling folks were all a bit strange.  And if it helped him shoot, Nogra would think him weird no longer. “The target is exactly 60 peds from where you shoot.  I believe we are between rounds at the moment, so please go ahead and take your first shot.”  Nogra smiled at the man in welcome, more was always merrier after all.

"Why, yes of course my good man," the large man said, "The target is exactly 60 peds from where you shoot. I believe we a between rounds at the moment, so please go ahead and take your first shot."

"Thank you," Danner said. He walked toward the line, thinking as he did so. 60 peds, Danner thought. He reached back in his quiver and used his hands to pull out an arrow with toran feather fletching. He had been fiddling with different woods, tips, and fletching. This arrow was made from red birch with a red iron tip and toran feather fletching. One he hadn't tried yet but he figured the tip would cause it to drop a little faster so he would aim up a bit. At exactly 60 peds about two rings from the middle should work. This was all theory right now, maybe it would work, and maybe it wouldn't. It would be cool to see if it did, if not he would go back to his regular arrows.

He stepped up to the line and set his arrow. He took a deep breath then set his aim, two rings out from the bullseye. He drew the arrow back, taking a deep breath and letting it out as he released. He watched silently, hoping it would drop into place, but if it didn't . . . oh well.

Nogra Ungorra

Unfortunately the precisely calculated route of Danner’s arrow didn’t go exactly to plan, hitting the second ring around the bullseye.  “And that’s a three point start for our newest competitor!”  He called over the crowd’s scattered applause.  It was a fairly good shot, but not quite as spectacular as the couple before it.  He just had some very hard scores to beat!  Nogra grinned at the thought; old and young coming together in a battle of skill...the excitement, the challenge!  Who could ask for more?

Turning away from the audience, Nogra looked at the assembled archers.  “Which of you fellows is ready to go next?”

(OOC Due to us trying to get all the events completed and change the day on Sunday, don’t worry too much about the order, as long as Nogra has said the score of the last shot, fire away!)

Todd had moved over to the stands and sat on the edge, holding the reins of both horses. He watched as Danner had talked to the larger man then noticed his brother rummaging through his collection of arrows. Todd rolled his eyes; his brother had taken to making some of his own arrows and trying new things. They had gone a couple nights without dinner since Danner had thought it was such a good idea to risk their next real on chance. Since then Danner had gone back to the arrows made by professionals due to Todd's 'insistence'.

Todd watched as Danner stepped up to the line and shoot. The arrow soared through the air and hit the second ring from the bullseye. Todd grinned, now maybe he's give those damnable homemade arrows up. He could help but stand up and call out to his brother jokingly when the fool turned from his shoot grinning.

"Hey, you're supposed to hit inside the big circle in the middle you dolt," Todd called to Danner.

Danner watched as the arrow struck the second ring from the bullseye. Danner grinned as the arrow quivered a little after it had struck. Well, now I know I still have more work to do, Danner thought. He turned from the line as the man said his score. Three points, not that bad I guess, he thought. He heard his brother in the stands.

"Hey, you're supposed to hit inside the big circle in the middle you dolt," Todd called in his usual joking tone.

"You get out here and try it yourself," Danner hollered back, laughing as he did so.

He turned back to the line, pulled a one of his arrows out of his quiver and set it. He drew back, and took aim carefully. This time he didn't have any strange tricks to the arrows. He could tell that this was once that Todd had bought him after costing them a few nights dinner with his 'crazy creations' as Todd called them. The fletching on all those arrows had been dyed blue by his brother and Todd would make sure he only took those arrows with him to hunt. Danner grinned and he took a deep breath and let go once more. Watching as the arrow sailed down the field.

Nogra Ungorra

The boy seemed eager to show his.. twin? Yes, definitely twin. Eager to show his twin brother he could do one better. He stepped up again without waiting for another contestant. Nogra smiled at the boy's eagerness, and nodded as he drew back the string and let the arrow fly. With baited breath he watched as it seemed to soar a little more straight and with a little more purpose. Landing even close to the target this time, Nogra clapped excitedly as he announced, "Five points this shot! That puts you at eight, my boy, very well done!"

Beaming down at him, Nogra looked around for the other contestants. Of course the pouty young woman would take her third shot soon, the elf had already finished, and the older gentleman who missed the first shot had one to go.. yes! They were almost finished and Nogra anxiously awaited knowing who the overall champion for the day would be.

Danner stepped back as the arrow struck the target. Better, he thought grinning. He stepped back, heading toward the stands. Danner stood next to him brother grinning, watching the field to see who would be shooting next. Hmmm, maybe I should have asked how many shoots we get, Danner thought, hope I didn't look foolish shooting again if only get one shoot. He shrugged the thought off and decided he would ask the man later. He would see what some the other competitors looked like first. He watched the field for a moment before turning to his brother.

"How'd you like that shot," Danner joked before turning his attention back to the field.

Cassie

Cassie watched as a newcomer, obviously with a twin, took two shots. Both were fairly good, and she nodded acknowledgment of that involuntarily. After his second shot however, it looked as though he would wait for his third, and Cassie took the opportunity to step bodly forward again. Drawing the arrow tightly back, her elbow out and hand by her ear, Cassie took a deep breath and squeezed her eyes shut. She wasn't doing so well today. There would be other days, she knew that, but she thought a good start could have helped a little. It hurt the bawdy Kassite's pride a little to start off this way.

Snapping her eyes open and fixing them on the bullseye, letting out her breath, and letting the arrow fly swfitly away all in one motion, Cassie's last shot was taken. Stepping back, she glanced about to see the crowd watching in anticipation, and turned forward to see how her shot ended up.
