Title: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Khiera Meneris on November 28, 2003, 12:09:22 PM As you push open the door a delicious aromatic smell of various fragrances and spices wafts up to you. The kitchen felt hot and steamy, but only because of the immense fireplace that had a roaring flame going on in it in one corner of the kitchen.
One could hardly imagine a kitchen of such a size from merely looking at the exterior of the tavern. Six long tables were placed in the middle of the kitchen, different cooking and food prepatory utensils laid strewn in a strangely disorderly yet organized manner on the table tops. On all the walls were racks and racks of spices and condiments, on the shelves were different meats, vegetables, fruits, grains and other sorts of ingredients. Near the fireplace were big iron pots of food that were cooking, while pots and pans of different sizes hung all around every other spare inch of the walls. It was certainly a chef's paradise, this kitchen. Running around all over the place performing an assortment of tasks with amazing speed and efficiency was a hunched back elderly looking man, with cropped dark hair flecked with strands of grey. He seems likely to be the chef of the tavern and master of the kitchen. Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: quegon on November 28, 2003, 02:32:22 PM "Take 'im to the kitchen! Show 'im what needs to be done!" the owner yelled, Quegon looked at who she was shouting at only to see the boy walk over to him and open the kitchen door where of which Quegon had been standing infront of.
Quegon hesitaed for a second then walked through the door the boy had just opened, as soon as Quegon got past the door it was as if he had entered another world. Compared to the foul smells of the common area in the tavern the kitchen was a warm inviting place, the smell of food made Quegon's mouth water. Quegon had been in a few kitchens in his life but none had never been as iniviting to him as this one, it could have been the long trip to the town or it could have been the fact that the smell made him hungry, either way he continued into the room and stopped at a table placed in the centre. Quegon soon realised that there was an elderly man in the kitchen with him, the mans hunched back made Quegon remeber the time he had kicked a man so hard in the chest that his foot had broken his ribs and continued through the mans chest. He looks like the old senile type most likely want me to do everything whilst he sits in a corner doing nothing Quegon thought to himself as he turned around to look at the door he had just come through "hey kid you gonna show me what to do or is this old man" Quegon pointed his thumb over his shoulder "gonna do it for ya" Indecision kills so decide a Quick death or a slow one Quegon Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Khiera Meneris on November 29, 2003, 01:03:22 AM The old man ran around with a basket full of greens that was still dripping wet from being freshly washed. He didn't notice that Quegon was standing right at one of the centre tables until he had to move over the other side of the room and came across Quegon blocking his way.
The old man looked quizzically at Quegon, and then looked questioningly towards the young boy who was still standing at the door. The young boy nodded his head a couple of times and gestured to the old man in an odd manner. The old man subsequently nodded his head, and then he looked towards Quegon with a toothy grin, "You! Man! Help! In! Kitchen?" His spoke in an odd staccatto way, his voice sounding elderly but full and with much gusto. Without even looking behind him, the old man non-chalantly threw the knife over his shoulder, which hit the knob of one of the cupboard doors with amazing accuracy, causing the door to open. The young boy then walked towards the opened cupboard door, and brought out a wide wooden bowl that was sitting on the shelf, subsequently walking over to the old man and handed it to him. The old man received the bowl from the young boy while nodding in thanks, and then handed the bowl to Quegon. In the bowl was an assortment of Onns (beans) in colours of yellow, white and red. The old man smiled as he spoke to Quegon, "Sort! Beans! Yellow! Red! White!" then he gestured towards three small bowls sitting on the table that Quegon was leaning on, "Put! Beans! In! Bowls! All! Different! Colours! Separate!" Then he hobbled off towards the fireplace again to stir the big bowl of stew that we brewing, leaving Quegon with the bowl of coloured beans in his hands. Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: quegon on November 29, 2003, 02:52:22 PM Quegon gave a stout look at the bowl of onns then tipped the lot onto the table, and began using both hands to pick and sort the different colors throwing them into the bowls. Quegon threw red ones in the left yellow ones in the middle and white into the right.
After a minute Quegon realised that he had almost gotten half way through the pile of onns on the table. I thought that I'd be given something hard Quegon thought to himself, he soon realised that the boy was still in the kitchen "hey kid what can you tell me about the soldiers around here" Quegon said whilst still sorting the beans "the owner said that they have an arrangment with them wanna tell me about it?" Quegon stopped for a second as a red onn bounced out of the bowl he threw it at bounced back out and landed in the middle one "or do you wanna go back out front to suffer the insults you get from the owner" Quegon added as an after thought knowing the boy wouldn't have liked getting insulted. Quegon plucked the red onn out of the yellow on bowl and placed it into the red bowl then continued sorting them quickly as he waited for a response from the boy. The young boy had a slightly perplexed look on his face, and he merely stood there still staring at Quegon, motionless, and without speaking a word in response. The old man chuckled as he stirred the big pot of stew at the fireplace, "He! Doesn't! Speak! Don't! Speak! No! Never!" the boy merely hung his head down at the old man's words. The old man took out a mortar and pestle, and then walked towards Quegon, placing the mortar and pestle on the table in front of Quegon, "Finish! Sorting! Grind! Beans! Different! Bowls! Make! Nice! Yerun peeked cautiously into the kitchen from the back door of the tavern that he had just pushed slightly open. Scanning the room quickly with his bright brown eyes, he surmised that it was safe -- for the Ramblers -- for him to enter. The cook didn't seem to be around. But if he wasn't now, he would be soon, so Yerun decided that he better get the Ramblers all settled in first before that happened. Closing the door behind him, Yerun walked over to a table at the corner furthest away from the fireplace. There, he slowly set the heavy basket down, leaning it against one of the legs of the tables. Wondering if it would be too high a distance for the Ramblers to leap out to the ground, Yerun cupped both his hands at the edge of basket, and again, whispering, trying to suppress his bubbling excitement, "We're here! You can come out now!" Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Fluffy Ramblers on December 10, 2003, 11:17:22 PM Ramblers climbed out of the basket sniffing the air and sprang to the ground ignoring the boys hands. Only Teapot, who was too old accepted Yerun's help. Smells of spices were filling the air. Ramblers started to look around in search for new hideout.
"Thank you again, Big One... Yerun," - said Fuzzytail: "We shall now stay here and search for a warm and cosy corner, allright?"
Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Khiera Meneris on December 11, 2003, 01:16:22 AM Yerun beamed liked someone had just given him a silverbard as the Ramblers scrambled their way out of the basket, sniffing and wandering around their new "home".
"Thank you again, Big One... Yerun, we shall now stay here and search for a warm and cosy corner, allright?" Yerun grinned, "I have the perfect place for you!" Going down on all fours, he crawled below the big table that was in front of him, towards the wall where there stood a small piece of wood that was seemingly out of place as it leaned against the wall in a curious fashion. Careful not to bump his head against the underside of the table surface, Yerun reached for the piece of wood and removed it, revealing a dark little gap in the wall. Yerun crawled out from under the table, dusted his knees, and handed the small piece of wood to Fuzzytail, and, pointing to the hole in the wall, "I used to know two rats who lived there, we talked everyday. I really enjoyed that, and they were going to bring in a third friend, but then, one day ..." A somber look came over Yerun's face, "... Omis (the cook) found them, and he ... made them into stew." Yerun stopped for a moment, remembering how the customers had praised the stew for tasting more excellent than usual, but he didn't think that the Ramblers need to know that. Straightening up again, Yerun tried to put on a cheery face, to welcome the Ramblers into their new home, "But i think Omis has forgotten all about this hole now, so you should be safe," he nodded reassuringly, "And i have been told that it is really spacious but cosy in there at the same time." Yerun smiled, hoping that the Ramblers would like their new home, but more importantly, happy that he had someone ... well, some ones, to talk to now. Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Fluffy Ramblers on December 11, 2003, 10:20:22 PM The mention about the cook making two previous owners of the dark hole into stew didn't really raise Ramblers' spirits. But they were tough rats and from the childhood on got used to the cruelty of the world. Deep inside though, everyone of them hoped one day to find a place, where they could live peacefully, where nobody would hunt them down and eat.
Manymeals got into the hole, spent some time in there and then ran out and squeaked something. Fuzzytail translated it swiftly adding a comment of his own: "Yerun, it seems that the hole your two friends described as a spacious one turned out to be quite small for six of us. But, well, we don't mind, do we?" The rest nodded. "Oh! I almost forgot it!" - cried the mouse then: "Are there any big hungry furry monsters with burning eyes that you call cats here?"
Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Khiera Meneris on December 12, 2003, 01:56:22 AM Yerun's face fell when he found out that the ideal place he had in mind for the Ramblers turned out to be not so ideal at all. However, it cheered him up that they weren't going to complain and had decided to stay. He was so worried that they might decide to make their way off elsewhere and he would be stuck with the ants and roaches again, who were more interested in getting food from Yerun than conversation. Yerun bobbed his head excitedly, "Yes, Yes! It will be just fine, i'm sure it will!"
"Oh! I almost forgot it! Are there any big hungry furry monsters with burning eyes that you call cats here?" Yerun pursed his lips slightly. Well, he had always thought that scrawny little alley cat behind the tavern was adorable and quite an agreeble little thing. But ... the Ramblers didn't need to know about that. Besides, Omis did not like any kind of animal to be in the kitchen, except if they were in his big cooking pot. So, as long as he kept the Ramblers in the kitchen or with him at all times, they should be alright. He so badly wanted them to settle in and stay! "Oh, no! No, no, no such thing! You are all safe here, i give my word on that." Yerun had heard his parents use that phrase many times -- giving their word -- and it had always seemed to elicit favourable responses from others. Never mind that Yerun had absolutely no idea what that meant. He tried to catch words coming out from his mouth before to give to someone, but that never quite worked out. Hoping that he had reassured the Ramblers enough and allayed all their fears, Yerun cheerfully added, "You must all be hungry, no? I will get you some food, what kind of food do you like or prefer?" Yerun was so excited in the prospect of a little house -- uhm, hole-warming party, that he didn't notice the soft creaking of the kitchen door as it was being pushed open from the other side. Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Fluffy Ramblers on December 13, 2003, 03:39:22 AM "Oh, no! No, no, no such thing! You are all safe here, I give my word on that." - Yerun seemed a bit confused as he spoke his last words. Ramblers were confused as well, not knowing what "giving a word" meant. They didn't say anything however, trusting the boy.
"You must all be hungry, no? I will get you some food, what kind of food do you like or prefer?" "Well, not exactly," - said Fuzzytail, who apparently has taken the responsibility of talking to the boy: "Actually, we've had our breakfast just an hour ago. But if you get some more food, we sure will find a use to it..." - Fuzzytail opened his mouth smiling: "Hey, wha....?" - he heard the door opening: *Squggle!* And the Ramblers quickly ran into the hole.
Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Khiera Meneris on December 13, 2003, 09:45:22 AM Yerun was surprised why the Ramblers had all suddenly dashed into the hole in mid-conversation. He soon found out.
Omis sauntered into the kitchen, humming an odd little ditty tune. Seeing Yerun kneeling on the ground, he spoke out to him, "Boy! Why! You! Not! Sorting! Vegetables? Work! To! Do! Work! To! Do!" Yerun scrambled to his feet nervously, nodding and nodding his head as he proceeded to lift the basket of vegetables from the ground and onto the table to begin unloading and sorting the vegetables. In his haste, and caught by surprise with Omis' sudden entry, he had forgotten about the piece of wood lying under the table. As Yerun removed the huge basket, Omis' eyes caught sight of the piece of wood lying askewed under the table. It was his kitchen and his kitchen was always in perfect order. He would not have it any other way. But now, what was this piece of wood doing there? He didn't remember ever placing a piece of wood anywhere in the kitchen, except in the fireplace ... Something clicked in Omis' mind. When Yerun saw Omis getting on his knees and making his way towards the hole in the wall, he knew something was wrong. Omis got close to the hole in the wall, and peered into it. "HEY!" Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Fluffy Ramblers on December 13, 2003, 11:49:22 PM The hole was dark and Ramblers crawled to the very back of it in hope that the cook wouldn't see them. Being caught in here without any chance of escaping would mean big trouble. They kept silence, not speaking, trying not even to breath. All that Ramblers could do now was just waiting.

Tongs! Crawling back to the hole on his elbows and knees, he shoved the tongs towards the rats, clacking them open and closed as it disappeared into the darkness. After a moment, he felt the tongs close on one of the rats tails. Aha! Slowly pulling the tongs towards him, he could feel the rat struggling to get away... Simple answers to life's questioning. In the same time other Ramblers ran out of the hole and saw what happened to Sparky. At once they attacked the cook, biting him with their long teeth as hard as they could. "Yerun! Help us! "Yerun! Help us! Please!" Omis was startled. Was it possible -- this ... rat ... talking??? Before he could ponder upon that further, five other furry figures had dashed out of the whole, and he soon felt their sharp rodent teeth piercing through his skin as they bit him furiously all over. Yerun was already panicking when Omis stuck the pair of thongs into the hole. What to do what to do??? At Fuzzytail's cry for help, he could no longer stand and do nothing. Eyeing a large gourd sitting among the vegetables in the basket, his hand made a quick grab for it, and then, approaching towards the wincing Omis who was trying to bat off the attacking Ramblers with his other free hand, Yerun took a deep breath, raised the gourd high in the air with both hands, and brought it down hard upon the base of Omis' skull. With a loud thud, the gourd split open, and Omis crumpled to the ground, the tongs falling clattering to the kitchen floor. And who knows what Omis is going to say or do when he comes to ... that is, if no one comes across him first. Yerun gulped and stared nervously at Cacunai. Who was this?? Her heart beat faster at the sight of the rats, but only because she had heard a quiet, sqeaky-type voice that could only belong to a magically-inclined rodent (or so she thought), and Cacunai wanted nothing to do with magic. Herblore and common sense were enough for the elf. Moving a few steps forward, she lifted a hand in tentative greeting, swaying back and forth in indecision.

"Er... excuse me, boy, but is there something I could help you with?" Yerun blinked and gulped. The Ramblers fell silent behind him. There had been no sign of the barmaid, and the boy was just staring at her mutely. The rats she could no longer see; they were probably behind the boy. She had missed the scurry. "Boy? You all right? Er- is he all right?" Cacunai's question made Yerun remember about what he just did with the gourd. Looking dolefully at Omis sprawled on the floor, he wondered if Omis would be ok ... Omis was not mean, just ... odd. And he never begrudged the boy anything, nor has he ever hit out at the boy ... unlike Lady Bretha. Looking nervously towards Cacunai, he wondered if she could help revive Omis, or at least make sure that Omis was unharmed ... well, apart from the fact that he was hit by a big heavy gourd on the back of his head. Looking at Cacunai, he made nervous gestures with his hand towards Omis, and then placed both his hands together at his cheeks, trying to imitate someone holding someone's head up. He was desparately trying to find a way to ask Cacunai to help see if Omis was ok, and he started moving towards the unconscious Omis on the floor. He jumped on Yerun's shoulder and whispered to the boy, making sure that the elf doesn't hear him "Don't you know the human language?"
The rest of the Ramblers hid themselves in the pockets of the Yerun's jacket feeling themselves well-protected there.
Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Khiera Meneris on December 18, 2003, 01:10:22 AM Yerun reached Omis side, and stood in silence as Cacunai knelt down to take a closer look at Omis. As Cacunai was looking over Omis, Yerun felt the Ramblers scramble up his pant legs and his snugly in the pockets of his worn tweed jacket. He looked on nervously at Cacunai as she tried to discern what was wrong with Omis.
After a short while, Cacunai raised her head towards Yerun and spoke to him, "What happened here?" Yerun shrugged his shoulders as Cacunai asked, and that was when he noticed that Fuzzytail had already climbed atop his shoulders, his ratty voice ringing out softly in Yerun's ears, "Don't you know the human language?" Yerun winced with an expression of pain on his face as Fuzzytail asked his question, shrugging his shoulders again, this time almost tipping Fuzzytail off, he whispered back to Fuzzytail, ignoring Fuzzytail's question, "You ... you speak to her ... you speak to her ... ask her if Omis is alright ..." Cacunai did not like magic, not a bit, and her rapport with animals was simply her understanding of them and her gentle words. She grabbed the downed man's arm and tugged, rolling him flush onto his back. She carefully held a hand over his nose and mouth and sat perfectly still for a moment.
He's still breathing, at least, She mumbled, half to herself and half to her audience. Still no sign of an angry barmaid demanding to know what she was doing in here. The mouse raised its brow... uh... the fur over its eye, but didn't ask again.
"Hey, Big Woman, the boy here wants to know if this ugly skrrr is alright." - said Fuzzytail with a loud voice to Cacunai and pointed with his hand at the cook.
Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Cacunai on December 19, 2003, 09:41:22 AM Well, he will be, as soon as he wakes. He is still breathing, his pulse is steady, if a bit too fast, and the blood runs red in his veins. Now then, d'you mind telling me what this is all about?
Cacunai clenched her teeth for a moment when the rat chittered at her, but she turned on her heel to face the decidedly odd entourage behind her. Or in front of her. Whichever way you cared to look. She brought up a hand to dash her hair away from her brow. Rather warm, isn't it? Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Khiera Meneris on December 19, 2003, 09:41:22 AM Yerun watched as Fuzzytail addressed Cacunai. He hoped Cacunia wouldn't be too shocked at the fact that a rat was speaking to her in the human tongue. In fact, he himself couldn't figure out why Fuzzytail could speak the human tongue ... he would ponder further on it though, except at that very moment the door creaked open, and the rotund frame of Lady Bretha stepped in.
Lady Bretha made one quick sweep of the situation with her piercing glance, and then bellowed, "What the Coor is going on in here???" She looked towards Cacunai, "What are yer doing in the kitchen???" She glared at Yerun, "Boy! What just happened?? Why is Omis laying there??" Thankfully she didn't notice the Ramblers, or she might just pick up a chopping knife and run after the rats. Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Cacunai on December 19, 2003, 08:58:22 AM Quickly, Cacunai executed a sweeping curtsey to Lady Bretha, hoping to mollify her slightly as well as cover for the boy and his pet rats.
Good lady, I am here because I heard a commotion coming from this very room. When I looked through the door, I saw this man stumbling 'round the room, cursing and holding his elbow as if it were hurt. Moments later, I saw him trip over something on the floor and fall. He has knocked himself unconscious. I am a healer, Lady. The lie rolled smoothly from her lips; she added that last bit as an afterthought, realizng that that little fact may endear her to the landlady. ((OOC: Smooth Nai ... very smooth *grin*)) Lady Bretha snorted loudly as Cacunai made a sweeping curtsy towards her that seemed a tad bit flamboyant, "Good lady, I am here because I heard a commotion coming from this very room. Lady Bretha glanced from Omis to Cacunai, and then from Cacunai from Omis again, her face an expression of skepticism, wondering how much stock to put into Cacunai's words. Glaring at Yerun again, she snapped at him, "Boy! Is that true?" Yerun was all flustered, and just nodded in agreement to Cacunai's words. He didn't know what would happen though, if Omis happened to wake up and say otherwise. Just as was his luck, a loud groan slipped from Omis' lips as he regained consciousness, "Oh! What? What?" Just to shore up her act a bit more, she shrugged back her short cloak from her shoulders and let it hang from her neck so she could rummage about in her healer's pouch, drawing out several small dried leaves and pressing them into the man's hand. There, now just gulp those down and I'm sure you'll have no more trouble. Fuzzytail hid himself under the boy's shirt and looked outside through a little hole in it. He felt very important now because he was probably the only mouse in the whole Santharia who could pronounce the words of the human language. He didn't know why though, he just could do it from the moment he was born. The others often tried, but they always ended up with something like "Sqrrideeei" instead of "Friday" or "qloff 'o sqrread" instead of "loaf of bread".

Omis woke up with a splitting headache. He blinked his eyes repeatedly until he could make out a cloudy face that was Cacunai in front of him. "My dear sir, you are quite ill. You have a very rare disease that causes hallucinations and fainting! Thankfully, it has very few other symptoms. I should think you would want to get to your bed and have a lie down, til you're feeling better, hmmm?" Again, Omis tried to make sense of what had happening and was happening around him, "What? What?" He distinctly remembered rats, and him looking forward to stew, and then ... "Hallucinations? Hallucinations?" Cacunai handed him a few sprigs of leaves, and he stared oddly at it. Hallucinations??? Ill??? Yerun silently drew in a huge breath of relief as he heard Cacunai's words to Omis. She was ... nice. Fuzzytail was heard whispering in his ear, "Seems like you're going to get out of trouble," Well, Yerun certainly hoped so. Lady Bretha was ... mean. Yerun quickly rushed forward towards Omis side to help Omis up as Fuzzytail scrambled and dashed within the safe confines of his jacket. If Omis was going to be doing any suspecting, Yerun didn't want to be the one suspected. Lady Bretha stared at what was taking place in front of her with narrow eyes. Omis? Ill? Hallucinations? What the--?? Sharply, Lady Bretha spoke first to Cacunai, "Well, illness or no illness, i'm not going to be paying yer for whatever those herbs are you gave, i didn't call for yer in the first place," then towards Yerun, "Well what yer waiting for boy! Get Omis back on his feet again! And get back to work! Both of yer!" she glared at Yerun just to make her point extra clear. Lady Bretha turned again to Cacunai, and grumbled, "Well, out of my kitchen now, nothing to see here ..." With that she turned and made her way to the door. Cacunai called after her and waved at the landlady's retreating back. She then turned back to the boy, and smiled kindly. Right then, I suppose I'd better get out of here, or she will be on me for unjustified occupancy or some such made-up excuse to charge me more money. With a wink, Cacunai turned to leave, but then stopped and stood still for a moment. Boy, is there a back way out of here? Yerun felt a certain rustling in his pockets. He was relieved that the Ramblers was ok. Omis freed himself from Yerun's helping hold and stood up, swaying a little as he tried to reorient himself. Omis knew it was no use asking Yerun what had just happened, Yerun wouldn't speak anyway. Staggering out of the kitchen, Omis mumbled to Yerun, "Boy! Sort! Vegetables! Need! Drink!" Omis was going to get himself a shot of strong drink ... Hallucinating?? He was probably working too hard, and should stop experimenting with making stew out of scraggly roaches. Yerun watched in relief as Omis walked out the kitchen door. That was close. "Boy, is there a back way out of here?" Yerun peered curiously at Cacunai. She was leaving now?? He liked her. She was ... smart, and nice to him. He wondered where she was going. He whispered inside his jacket pockets to the Ramblers, hoping that Fuzzytail was listening, "Where is she going? Ask her where she's going." Turning to Cacunai, he gestured towards the backdoor of the kitchen. Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Cacunai on December 21, 2003, 05:22:22 AM Cacunai smiled again and executed a short, sweeping curtsey to the boy and laughed before turning to leave again. Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Khiera Meneris on December 22, 2003, 02:29:22 AM Yerun watched as Cacunai turned to go. She's leaving! His heart sank a little.
"Boy, why do you not speak? Is it that you cannot? Or that you will not?" Yerun looked down mournfully at his feet. He had no idea how to answer a question like that, especially when almost everyone that he met would ask him such a question. Memories came flooding back to him, bad memories ... He was thankful to hear Fuzzytail's voice ring out from his shoulder again, "Hey, elf! He asks you where you are going," Yerun nodded to himself inside, yes, he wanted to know where Cacunai was going. He didn't know why, but something told him it would be an important thing to know. He absent-mindedly raised a hand to stroke Fuzzytail on his shoulder. Yerun watched silently as Cacunai strode out the door and left. Standing there a little dumbfounded for a while, he turned back towards the kitchen and looked at the basket of vegetables he had yet to sort. Mechanically, he reached for the vegetables in the basket and started laying them out on the table, slipping in one or two cherries within his jacket for the Ramblers, hoping that would calm them down. Yerun whispered to the Ramblers, "You should all just stay with me from now on ... i won't let anybody hurt you." Just then, two tavern maids came chattering into the kitchen. Omis was still no where to be seen. The two tavern maids smiled sweetly at Yerun, but a frown creased their brows, as they were looking for Omis to obtain something for a patron. Leaning against a table to wait, they started talking between themselves, while Yerun went about sorting the vegetables. "What a ruckus that was, in the village center." "Yea ... you would think after seven years it would all die down ..." "Rumours say they might have uncovered something new ..." "Something new? I wonder what that could be ... a couple of patrons have been asking for Kestrel." "Kestrel?? You know they say that boy --" The tavern maid was about to continue, but then realized that Yerun was in the room with them, and stopped herself in time. Both of them hushed for a while, and switched the conversation to something else. The Ramblers felt a slight shudder at jolt through Yerun at the mention of "Kestrel". It was apparent that Yerun was upset about something, and it had something to do with Kestrel. But Yerun merely just continued sorting the vegetables stonefaced. You should post once before the plot moves on Fluffy ![]() Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Fluffy Ramblers on December 23, 2003, 09:43:22 AM Fuzzytail on Yerun's shoulder looked around. "No cook? Not here? Not there?" He jumped on the vegetables basket. The tavern maids were too busy talking to eachother to notice him.
"Psst! Yerun!" - Fuzzytail whispered to the boy: "I think we should find a place for Sparky... uh... the big black one to rest. He seemed hurt to me". Fuzzytail then perched into the pocket of Yerun's jacket. There he found Sparky eating a cherrie from Smuggles' hands. *Sqeck!* "Looks like you're not so bad after all". He sprang on the basket again: "It's okay, Yerun. Take your time".

When Fuzzytail mentioned Sparky's need for rest, Yerun was a little worried that Sparky was in bad condition. He was relieved when Fuzzytail said otherwise. Slipping the last of the cherries from the basket into his jacket pockets, he decided that the cherries were to have been "forgotten to be bought" this morning. As the tavern maids left the kitchen after a while of not seeing Omis, Yerun finished sorting the last of the vegetables. All the time, the name "Kestrel" was spinning inside his head. A fierce debate was bubbling within him. He winced as he recalled Lady Bretha's fierce hatred for him in her eyes ... his parents ... his ... home. His parents ... he had to know! And Kestrel was the key, from what he had been told from Lady Bretha and heard from the talk around him all these years. Looking around the kitchen to make sure nobody was around, Yerun spoke to Fuzzy tail who was perched atop the basket, a decision having been reached within himself, "You will follow me, won't you? To talk to that elf lady? Please? I ... i need to find out something ... about my parents ..." Yerun's big glassy eyes looked hopefully at Fuzzytail. Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Fluffy Ramblers on December 24, 2003, 03:48:22 AM "You will follow me, won't you? To talk to that elf lady? Please? I ... "I guess, it can't hurt to help the boy" - thought Fuzzytail: "She didn't look hostile to me. Damn, she wasn't even surprised to hear a mouse talk!" "Alright, Yerun. You go, we'll follow." *Sqrick!* The Ramblers perched out of Yerun's jacked. "Listen here! We have to find that elf woman who just left for the boy. Shurshing... sweet... can you do that?" "Of course!" - said Shurshing with excitement and run out of the kitchen. "A task, a task! Finally they trust me something!" "What's wrong with your family anyway?" - asked then Fuzzytail. "Alright, Yerun. You go, we'll follow." Yerun smiled gratefully at Fuzzytail, "Thank you ..." Yerun scanned the kitchen, seeing Omis had not yet returned and Lady Bretha no where to be seen, what better time to leave than now. Yerun felt all warm inside as Fuzzytail sent Shurshing scurrying off to find Cacunai. He remembered that Cacunai said she was going to the market place. That's where he'll go then, although he had no idea where in the market place he would find her. Cupping Fuzzytail from the basket and into his jacket with his hands, he moved to the backdoor of the kitchen, hoping to catch Cacunai before she left the market place. That was when Fuzzytail squeaked errr ... spoke again, "What's wrong with your family anyway?" Yerun abruptly stopped as his hand just reached for the door handle. "My ... my family?" He had a stunned look on his face. "I ... I ... can't remember ..." He moved his palm to his forehead as if in pain, "Something ... something happened to them ... i ... i can't remember!" Yerun looked like he was about to cry. "But ... but ... Kestrel knows! I'm sure! They ... they said it was from her Lady Bretha took me from! If he's legitimate, this might be the easy way in. Of course, with this town it might be a trap and I might end up disappearing in the woods. Oh well.
Ryldor made his way towards the back of the Rusik, but stopped a few blocks away and surveyed the area, getting the lay of the land and planning out an exit route. As the appointed hour approached, Ryldor took off his sword and hid it on a nearby roof, then made sure his daggers were at the ready. Better to be unencumbered. He debated reversing his jacket, but decided against it. An extra surprise for them if there's trouble. At exactly 21 bells, Ryldor approached the door.
Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Khiera Meneris on January 13, 2004, 10:41:22 AM Your plot time is now 21 Bells.
@Ryldor: Ryldor stood alone in the darkness behind the Regal Rusik Tavern, with only the faint glow of light coming from the kitchen that was streaming from under the back door leading to the inside of the kitchen. But he was not alone for long. A little after 21 Bells, two tall, wiry figures slunked out of the surrounding darkness, seemingly appearing from no where. One each stood at Ryldor's left and right. As they slowly approached closer, Ryldor could faintly make out the features of the two figures. The figure to Ryldor's left was a little taller, wearing a dark tweed cap, with a narrow nose and slit-like eyes. The figure to the right was a little shorter, and considerably slimmer, and seemed to be chewing on a stick of grass. Upon a closer look, Ryldor realized that this figure was female. The man growled, "And you are?" Ryldor answered non-chalantly, "Rofer sent me." The man seemingly grinned ... or scowled, depending on what you thought it looked like. "Aye, so he did, did he?" Without as much as a further grunt, the man lunged towards Ryldor, and in his arms flashed a sharp machete, slashing towards Ryldor's chest. The female figure leapt out simultaenously at some silent signal from the man, in both hands she held a dagger, stabbing towards Ryldor. Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Ryldor Gadriel on January 14, 2004, 09:33:22 AM TRAP! was all Ryldor had time to think before he reacted, bending at the knees and throwing himself backward, the machete passing above the elf's chest by nailsbreadths. I guess it's too much to hope for that she'd jump into the machete.Using his momentum, he hoped to put some distance between himself and his assailants by somersaulting backward.
As soon as there was any space, he turned and ran for the nearest wall.

With that, he raised his machete again high in the air, chasing after Ryldor and preparing to bring the blade swooping down on Ryldor the minute Ryldor stopped at an approaching wall. The female had to double back to avoid the man's machete as Ryldor avoided the strike, but now she also chuckled, as if this was something that she did everyday -- hunting down people and stabbing them to pieces that is -- and tossed a dagger from her hand towards Ryldor's back. Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Ryldor Gadriel on January 16, 2004, 07:43:22 AM Ryldor leapt for the top of the wall, grabbed it and started pulling himself up. Luckily, he had gotten high enough that the woman's dagger, which would have scored a direct hit in his back, pierced his left thigh instead. Pain shot through him causing him to lose his grip and drop back to the street.
Even through the pain he knew that a machete would soon be dismembering him if he didn't react and fast. Quickly, he pivoted, drew of one of his own daggers and threw it at the approaching man's face as he prepared to dodge the next strike.

((OOC: Very nice post!! ![]() The woman smirked in glee as her dagger pierced through Ryldor's right thigh, although she would have much preferred it if it had left a gaping hole in Ryldor's back. The man was sniggering as well -- until Ryldor's dagger hit him squarely on his forehead, and all that came further from him was a loud thump and clang as his body slumped to the ground and the machete left his gripped. Ryldor suddenly heard a feminine voice from the top of the wall that he had tried to scale in escape. The voice was very muffled, but it was obvious that it was a female. "Hurry, up here! Give me your hand!" As the female voice said this, a blunt, round object was thrown over the wall and hit the female thug on the head, with the female thug subsequently falling to the ground on her back with a loud groan. There was scarcely any light around the area where the wall stood, and all Ryldor could make out of the voice that just spoke was a hooded and veiled face. A dainty gloved hand was extended down the side of the wall towards Ryldor. Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Ryldor Gadriel on January 17, 2004, 05:41:22 AM Ryldor saw his dagger hit true and was almost shocked. I'm better than I thought. He started to reach for his other dagger to tangle with the woman, when a voice above him nearly scared him more than his attackers. He looked for the source of the words, but his eyes caught glimpse of a projectile and his eyes tracked it as it hit the second assailant, rendering her unconscious.
Looking back to the top of the wall, he saw a gloved hand reaching down, seemingly offering him assistance up. Being down here isn't so great. Better go up.. Now for the bad part. Grimacing, he reached down and pulled out the dagger from his thigh. Yup. That was bad. He wiped the blood from the blade and stuck it in his belt, replacing the one he threw. Gingerly he reached up, took the offered hand and scaled the wall. Once at the top of the wall, he didn't look around. Instead, he ignored his surroundings, lowered himself to the roof deck and started healing his wound waiting for his savior to speak.

The mystery woman seemed glad that Ryldor had managed to scale the wall to safety. She looked down as Ryldor started to heal himself, and seem to speak in amusement to herself, her voice still muffled, "You are no merchant, are you?" More as a statement to herself than an actual question directed at Ryldor. Her head turned sharply towards the back of the tavern, as if she had heard some worrying noise. Turning back to Ryldor, she urged on, "We must leave. More will come." She gestured towards the ground, and in the darkness, by squinting Ryldor could make out the outline of what seemed like a horse flicking its tail non-chalantly. The woman urged Ryldor on, knowing that he had not yet finished healing himself, "Can you ride? We must leave. Now. When i say jump, jump down with me on to the horse." You can choose to leave or not to leave with the woman. Your choice ![]() Title: Re: Tavern Kitchen Post by: Ryldor Gadriel on January 19, 2004, 02:21:22 PM The more the woman spoke, the more convinced Ryldor became that he was familiar with the woman’s voice. It was late into the night, barely any light except for a few scattered lamps and lanterns here and there, but the rider and horse seemed to know exactly where they were heading. ”So who are you and where are we going?" The woman seem to chuckle -- it was hard to tell with her voice being so muffled by her veil -- and then answered cheerfully, "All will be made known to you shortly." She paused, a tinge of reluctance, "And now, forgive me for what i am about to do, but it is of the utmost necessity --" Ryldor felt a blunt object hit him hard on the forehead, and the next thing he knew he was swathed in darkness. Ok, this is one of the parts where i said that certain characters will have to be knocked out to advance the plot ... don't worry, no injuries, it's just for plot purposes ![]() Commence posting in the Weaver's Cottage thread. ![]() |
