Title: "Quotes"
Post by: Rvahr the Hunter on December 15, 2006, 01:43:49 PM
After seeing some people put down some fairly interesting quotes that they had said/read/heard I thought it might be nice to have a place to put some of that stuff down in Santh.

One of my favorites would be this one:

"The most preposterous notion that H. sapiens has ever dreamed up is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of all the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of His creatures, can be swayed by their prayers, and becomes petulant if He does not receive this flattery. Yet this absurd fantasy, without a shred of evidence to bolster it, pays all the expenses of the oldest, largest, and least productive industry in all history."

Rivers, blue seas
Mountains and valleys
Nothing here stays
While we think we witness
We are part of the scene

She gives and she takes
But she is also a part
A part of the tale" Within Temptation- Neverending Story.

(which is a quite shorter than the Michael Ende version, i might say)

Cleric- Don't worry, i can cast 'Turn Undead' with that Rod of Commanding. Follow me!
AD&D Game Master- Cleric, you are attacked by a Harpy Witch as soon as you enter the tomb.
Cleric- Cast 'Turn Undead.
GM-  Erh.. you sure?
Cleric- Yes. Cast 'Turn Undead'
GM- Cleric casts 'Turn Undead. The Harpy looks surprised, and mauls him to death. Cleric dies.
Cleric- But...
GM- Harpies are not undead, moron.
Party- *hilarious laughter*

There has grown up in the minds of certain groups in this country the notion that because a man or a corporation has made a profit out of the public for a number of years , the government and the courts are charged with the duty of guaranteeing such profit in the future, even in the face of changing circumstances and contrary public interest. This strange doctrine is not supported by statute nor common law. Neither individuals nor corporations have any right to come into court and ask that the clock of history be stopped ,or turned back, for their private benefit.

History does not record anywhere a religion that has any rational basis. Religion is a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up to the unknown without help. But, like dandruff, most people do have a religion and spend time and money on it and seem to derive considerable pleasure from fiddling with it.

All my life I've wanted to go to Earth. Not to live, of course- just to see it. As everybody knows, Terra is a wonderful place to visit but not to live. Not truly suited to human habitation.

Podkayne in Podkayne of Mars

Government! Three-fourths parasitic and the rest stupid fumbling- Oh, Harshaw conceded that man, a social animal, could no more avoid government than an individual could escape the necessity of bowel movements. But simply because an evil was necessary was no reason to term it "good." He wished that government would wander off and get lost!

Thoughts of Jubal Harshaw in Stranger in a Strange Land

I also think there are prices too high to pay to save the United States. Conscription is one of them. Conscription is slavery, and I don't think that any people or nation has a right to save itself at the price of slavery for anyone, no matter what name it is called. We have had the draft for twenty years now; I think this is shameful. If a country can't save itself through the volunteer service of its own free people, then I say: Let the damned thing go down the drain!

Here is some famous quotes from famous (and not so famous) people.

And what became of them.

JOHN LENNON:
Some years before, during his interview with an American Magazine, he said: "Christianity will end, it will disappear. I do not have to argue about that. I am certain. Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple, Today we are more famous than Him" (1966).
Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, was shot six times.

TANCREDO NEVES (President of Brazil):
During the Presidential campaign, he said if he got 500,000 votes from his party, not even God would remove him from Presidency.
Sure he got the votes, but he got sick a day before being made President, then he died.

CAZUZA ( - Brazilian composer, singer and poet):
During a show in Canecïo ( Rio de Janeiro ), whilst smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some smoke into the air and said: "God, that's for you."
He died at the age of 32 of AIDS in a horrible manner.

THE MAN WHO BUILT TITANIC:
After the construction of Titanic, a reporter asked him how safe the Titanic would be. With an ironic tone he said: "Not even God can sink it"
I think you all know what happened to the Titanic.

MARILYN MONROE:
She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a show. He said the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her. After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said: "I don't need your Jesus".
A week later, she was found in her apartment... DEAD

BON SCOTT:
The ex-vocalist of the AC/DC. On one of his 1979 songs he sang:"Don't stop me, I'm going down all the way, down the highway to hell".
On the 19th of February 1980, Bon Scott
was found , he had been choked by his own vomit.

CAMPINAS/SP IN 2005
In Campinas, Brazil a group of friends, drunk, went to pick up a friend. The mother accompanied her to the car and was so worried about the drunkenness of her friends and she said to the daughter - holding her hand, who was already seated in the car: "MY daughter, go with God and may He protect you." She responded: "Only if He (God) travels in the trunk, cause inside here it's already full."
Hours later, news came by that they had been involved in an accident , everyone had died, the car could not be recognized - what type of car it had been - but surprisingly, the trunk was intact. The police said there was no way the trunk could have remained intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a crate of eggs, none were broken.

CHRISTINE HEWITT (Jamaican journalist and entertainer):
She said the Bible (Word of God) was the worst book ever written, in June 2006 she was found burnt beyond recognition in her motor vehicle.

"Come to the dark side, we have cookies." My little cousin ... May Odin place many runes on her blade.

"This gun is overkill but in a good way. It is a percision engineered lead-breathing dragon." Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher

"Dreaming demon, every time I turn around I feel Lucifer's hot claws rake down my back." I'll give you three guesses ... but you'll probably only use one. (That's right ... ME! I was drunk and 19, you do the math.)

"Death to false metal!" Every member of the heavy metal family ever to walk this toilet called Earth before their soul ascended to its proper resting place of Valhalla. (No, Poison and Bon Jovi are NOT metal groups. Ozzy = Metal. 3 Inches of Blood = Metal. Godsmack = Metal. Metallica (1983-1989) Metal. Femetallica (1990-present) False metal. Iron Maiden = Metal. Manowar = Metal. I think you all get the idea. AND KEEP ROCKING FOREVER METAL FAMILY, DEATH TO THE FALSE ONES! \m/ \m/)

I reckon you can quote pretty much anything out of "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D.Salinger.

"Then, after the Rockettes, a guy came out in a tuxedo and roller skates on, and started skating under a bunch of little tables, and telling jokes while he did it.  He was a very good skater and all, but I couldn't enjoy it much because I kept picturing him practicing to be a guy that roller-skates on the stage.  It seemed so stupid."
