What sort of characters is this story looking for? Mages? Woodsy types? Fighters? etc... :)

Whoever Irid chooses to hire  ;).  Pretty much anyone would be of use to her, although we will be spending more time in the countryside than in large towns.  However, we wouldn't want just woodsy people as that would be boring, she might hire a fighter or mage type for protection, or even (why not) a cook to make sure the party were well fed.  Or someone who knew something about druids, or someone who was used to travelling around the area and knew the roads well.  Someone who had a horse they could use for luggage? Find a reason why she would hire you and write a brilliant post showing it off!  I suppose if you weren't sure which character would be better, you could write an application post with each. However, only one would be accepted, otherwise it would be hard to prevent you from rping with yourself.

I think I have a few things in my favor for your story...

1. Merysa is a knight and warrior...so she can protect her allies.

2. She possesses a very strong and sturdy horse.

3. She lives by a strict code of conduct so you can be sure she will be loyal, faithful and brave in the face of death.

4. She has nothing to do at the moment...so a trip through the country would do her good.  ;)

I hope my application post wasn't too long...

Thanks for the application--its never too long!

I enjoyed the read :D

I hope the intro post was ok...I didn't puppet any NPCs this time, as I did in my application.

I wondered though what the help wanted notice said specifically? It seemed kind of vague and I didn't know how exactly to integrate it into Merysa's post.

My intro post is also the next morning than my app post. Hope that's ok I changed days. If not, I can edit.

Actually, the message was oral. In medieval/fantasy worlds, very often when people wanted news, the inn-keeper was the one to talk to - since there were *very* few people who could read and write.

So, if someone wanted to hire adventurers, he/she would let the innkeeper know, and adventurers looking for a job would likewise ask the innkeeper if he heard about someone hiring (thoug this is mostly in the fantasy genre, it didn't actually go like that in the middle ages  ).

The message in this case, when someone asks it of the innkeeper, would be that
1)There's an elf hiring adventurers to help her find a person,
2)The elf is waiting for the interested adventurers about a stral north of New Santhala
3)She has golden eyes (and black hair for the more perceptive innkeepers ;))

I hope that helps. I will allow people to puppet the innkeepers (just this once! ;)) so that they can hear about the message and meet Irid in the same post. Also, about the time: no problem. The application post was more or less a 'prequel', and since it has to be morning, according to my time thread, it's logical to suppose that the night has passed since that application post :)

Post by: Maue on May 08, 2008, 05:27:51 AM
Would it be ok if I had Maue coming from Elsreth to New Santhala and she found Irid that way, instead of from New Santhala with news that an elf is hiring outside the city gates?

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Merýsa Stormblade on May 08, 2008, 05:35:04 AM
I went ahead and changed my post and puppeted the innkeeper long enough for her to inform Merysa of Irid's request for help.  ;)

Ok, finished just in time before I have to leave

I let everyone enter the camp in the order in which I thought they would arrive, based on time of leaving the city and such. I hope you don't mind that, even if you had posted before another person.

Blyxx, I assumed that your character would be somewhat more careful than the others before entering the camp. Irid is growling at your warg :) If I did wrong with such an assumption, just let me know and I will edit my post so that you enter the camp like the others.

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Blyxx on May 10, 2008, 03:37:43 AM
The way I was looking at it was, the majority of the players are female which would actually give Blyxx a level of comfort. Though she had kept herself distant from Merysa on the road to meet Irid, that was more in regards to Blyxx's confusion at a woman dressed as the knight is. The huntress considers herself armed like a man, in regards to her cultural upbringing, so the knight is a major shock.

As you have it written it is probably pretty accurate on how Blyxx would be approaching the party. Most likely riding in slow trying to not show an aggressive stance, appearances are bad enough. Plus at the moment finding some sort of work is a matter of survival for her and would press her to be a little less leery. :)

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Simonne Miller on May 10, 2008, 04:01:11 AM
Well yeah, I had meant it as though you were already quite close to the party, like just barely covered by the underbrush... just a little cautious :)

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Rookie Brownbark on May 11, 2008, 01:04:16 AM
Maue: Unfortunately I don't think it is possible to tell that Menweh is a mage just from looking at her.  It's like me going up to someone in the street and being able to tell they were a primary school teacher just like that.  You might suspect something because, say, they're carrying the combined works of Roald Dahl, but it's impossible to just know.  I'm sure you'll find out pretty soon anyway ;).

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Maue on May 11, 2008, 01:56:11 AM
Sorry I wasn't trying to say that Maue knew for sure just that she was suspicious. I will alter my post to make it work better.

O.K. that Maue now isn't sure what Menweh is.

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Irid alMenie on May 13, 2008, 03:28:54 PM
Thanks for your posts everyone!

However, I would like to address one issue that I feel is pretty important in a story, namely continuity. I would very much like to ask you to *read* the previous posts, plus anything that might be relevant for your own post (this possibly includes OOC posts and CDs - Mery, Irid's hair is black, not brown ;)), and read it thoroughly. I'm not pointing fingers at one person here, since I've noticed it a few times already. To give an example: For the entrance post nobody had actually come into the camp itself except for Maue and Lyon. Most of you left it to me to decide the order, based on your entrance posts and how fast I judged you'd be able to reach the camp. I said this in OOC. In the next posts, though, the order seemed to switch a few times (mainly the order in which Lyon and Menweh entered).
Another example happened just now - Blyxx was in the bushes near the camp, but when Menweh used her magic, she fled away far enough for her to spur on her Warg to ride fast, and to reach a clearing and turn around with an arrow on her bow, before the camp reached her. Irid ran after her until she reached the same clearing. Neither of them are therefore in the camp anymore. The way I read the two following posts, however, would suggest that Irid is standing merely next to the fire inside the camp. Do you see what I'm trying to say? If you don't remember something precisely, you can always open Santharia in a second window and look it up that way. I sometimes have up to five or six windows open, just for looking things up.

Now, I am only human myself, and I know I do this as well sometimes, and misinterpretations are easy enough, so please tell me if you see me changing the continuity. But please, read posts carefully to know where everyone you mention is standing and in what order things happen. I apologise for the rant, but this is one of my pet peeves... ;)

Thank you for your attention.

Merysa, in my post I kinda puppeted you into following Irid to the clearing where Blyxx is standing, I hope you don't mind that? If you do, just tell me and I'll edit my post :)

Edited! Sorry about that, I did not take the distance Irid and Blyxx were away from the camp into account  :undecided:

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Merýsa Stormblade on May 13, 2008, 10:44:53 PM
I have no issue with the small puppeting, Irid. My post details that Merysa steps up next to Irid and Lyon. I was more careful to keep continuity as well. Sometimes I skim posts and miss important details...

Hello to all! Hope I got everyone's placing correct. If I didn't feel free to correct me. :D

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Rookie Brownbark on May 13, 2008, 11:34:12 PM
I don't think Blyxx is actually in the clearing - that was where the fire was and rather small.  Instead she has fled back out of the trees again, into a large open space and is infact standing "30 peds from the treeline".  I think you might see her before you spot the others, who are just emerging from the trees.  Or, at least, thats the way I took it :P.

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Lyon Ridgebane on May 14, 2008, 09:04:00 AM
I took it that way as well, Rookie!

Also, I know I mentioned Menweh's speaking first, although that's not the order, I hope it's clear that was just foremost in his mind, before the other comments. Ahh, that's confusing.. I just hope the post is alright ;)

Good posts everyone.

I would like to invite everybody to come to the campsite, where Lyon and Irid are already sitting. Irid will tell her story once everybody has posted.

Blyxx: it's up to you when you want to post, so long as you end up at the campsite

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC

Just wanted to check in on what others have planned. I know in the past I have been constructing a post and another player put up one as I was writing. Just didn't want to frustrate anyone and cause them to go back and restructure their writings. I'll have one up today then Sim! :)

I'm waiting for you my dear, because Ruka stared at you and all and I wasn't sure if you were going to react to it or not.  But no extreme rush on my part :).

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Simonne Miller on May 16, 2008, 02:38:50 AM
Merysa, nice post! However, Irid is sitting somewhere between ten and thirty peds away from you, so I'm afraid you'll have to move first before you talk to her ;)

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Merýsa Stormblade on May 16, 2008, 02:40:36 AM
Posted. I hope it's ok. One of the goals I have with Merysa is that she obviously doesn't trust the orc or the warg. So expect alot of tension between them (at least until Blyxx proves herself worthy).

Also, I know Rukugua is NOT a Northern barbarian, but to Merysa, she looks like one.

Third, Merysa has no patience for the Twins and their attitude, so expect no friendliness there, either.  :)

I am only in-character, so don't take offense please.  :azn:

EDIT - Simonne, Merysa was supposed to speak to Irid before she moved away to the camp. A kind of side comment to her. Oh, and thanks for compliment!

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Simonne Miller on May 16, 2008, 02:45:01 AM
Oh, ok, you might want to make that clear then. Like 'said to Irid as she walked past together with the blind man' or something along that line.

And yes, we were actually looking forward to that tension between you and Blyxx :D

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Rukaqua on May 16, 2008, 02:54:38 AM
Heh heh, no, it's great you're playing to character!  However I'm not sure how accurate "Northern Barbarian" is.  The Serphelorians come from central southern sarvonia....Sanguia.

Quote
After Santhros’ unification of Santharia, Serphelorians are one of the most common tribes inhabiting the province of Sanguia. Many Serphelorians also live in Chrondra, and in small towns and villages in northern Manthria and the southern half of Enthronia.

So, um south of you. Your character might not know that, but seeing as they're not uncommon or hidden away....she might.  So I leave it up to you :).

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Merýsa Stormblade on May 16, 2008, 02:59:08 AM
Being from Voldar (consults map), Merysa would assume a warrior woman with tattoos and nice blades would be perhaps a Kuglimz. Hence the rationale of a barbarian...of course, I am sure Ruk will set Merysa straight once they get to know each other.

Also, edited the post when speaking to Irid.

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Blyxx on May 16, 2008, 03:03:52 AM
Haha Ruka, I think Blyxx was kinda being stared at by many and quite possibly is getting some sidelong glances.

@Merýsa: Blyxx has already proved herself in the eyes of the K'han'uck'tscha! What is there for her to prove to a filthy human?

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Rukaqua on May 16, 2008, 03:07:10 AM
@ Merysa - Good point.  Go on, call her a Kuglimz.....;)

@Blyxx - Awww, doesn't she get credit for being extra-starey?  hehe

Darn you Lyon! Heavy footsteps of the Orc female?! Blyxx is the smallest of the party members that I have read so far, about 5'2". Never insult a woman about her weight either. :P

I replied and possibly made a way to obtain supplies from the Armourwain (as well as an NPC) if the mods allow it. As a knight, I assume Merýsa can "borrow" certain things from the temple when going on any sanctioned quest such as weapons, packs, food items and maybe a horse or two. I'll leave that up to the mods.  ;)

Hey now, this is a bit early to let the story die down, isn't it? Could I ask for a post from... well, basically everyone except Blyxx and Maue? I'd particulary like a post from Menweh and the twins, since we want to have the town visited as soon as possible so that we can return to the camp and start the journey ^.^

@ The Twins and Menweh: Either of you may feel free to bring us actually inside the town, just a matter of speeding things up a little. I don't want to spend too much time there, we actually want to have some miles under our hooves before stopping for the night, which means that we want to be back from the town somewhere around midday ^.^

That's ok Maue, have a good holiday!  We've sort of erm...left you in the woods I think, so that you can come back in pretty easily :).  Minimal puppeting.

Okay, so, update for the group who stayed behind!

- Ruka suggested a card game, but no-one could really play.

- Food's up!  Yum yum.

- A  skinny man has just arrived to try and join the card game, and is now being growled at/asked pointed questions by Blyxx & Warg and Ruka.  Poor guy.

Well Rookie there are a couple people involved in the present happenings at the campsite. So I am just sitting on the sidelines for the moment, reading everyday though and will jump in when needed.

Thank you! I just want a little (or long, up to you ;)) post describing what you do in town. It might be a good idea to agree with the twins on how much you can puppet each other :)

Well, I didn't exactly puppet you, Menweh, just left you somewhere. If you're not okay with it, I can change it. :)

Oh, and in your next post, feel free to meet up with the twins and puppet me back to Irid. ^^

Menweh, I'd really appreciate a post, it doesn't even have to be a large one, where you get back with the rest of the group. I'm waiting on you before posting.

Alrighty, camp people: feel free to chase Jason off before the five of us arrive, but I'd appreciate it if you didn't kill him. Would be hard to explain to authorities if they found the body :P

I'll give Y'cha and Lyon a chance to interact with him first. Those two will probably be a bit more diplomatic but in the end I don't think Blyxx is going to let him wander off. Not till Irid returns anyhow.

Ok, since only two people seemed to feel the need/ had the chance to post, I'm gonna see if it'll be more effective to post again myself, instead of asking everyone else to post... I'll post again in two week's time (if I can, since that's my first working day in Prague, so it might be a bit longer as well). If you haven't posted yet by then (with the exception of Ruka, because I know her laptop died), it's entirely possible that you'll be left behind, as that is the post in which we will be leaving for the north.

For now, I will change the IC time to noon, since our excursion to the city took some hours...

It's ok, so long as I know you'll post soon.

I understand if RL is taking over, it happens to me too sometimes. I'd just like a little warning if you feel that you won't be able to post within two weeks :)

So so sorry for the time it took me to write a post - just a series of bad luck I'm afraid with computer down and new people at work to look after. :(. Back online now though, so timely and thorough replies abound!

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Simonne Miller on September 10, 2008, 01:15:01 AM
Ok, I don't *really* want to leave behind about half the party including one of my comods, (even counting the fact that Merysa said she'd be busy) so I'm just gonna leave it like this until I have regular internet access again. After that, I *will* expect more active participation, or you *will* be left behind. Like I said, I'm not willing to let this story die before it's even properly started.

A tally up to the present:

Irid, Blyxx, Ruka and Menweh have posted.

Merysa apologised for a busy week, she will post.

I am still waiting for a post from Maue, the Twins and Lion.

I am going to post again on the twelfth of october. Everyone who has not posted by then that they are ready to go... I'm sorry, but you will be left behind. Except for the twins, because Seh warned us that she'd be busy with exams. Oh, and Ruka, because I know that she is at university and not online a lot...

Let's get the show back on track, people!

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Irid alMenie on October 13, 2008, 05:31:05 AM
Ok, I don't really want to leave any of you behind, so just one more chance. If you still want to continue playing in this story, fight the men and join the others. If you don't do that, I won't kill you off, but I will indispose you enough that you are unable to come with us, because I then assume that you no longer wish to play in the story. Again, the deadline is in two weeks.

If you have no wish to continue playing in this story, but you do know about the deadline, please write an exit post. Without either an exit post or a join post within two weeks, the exit post will be written for you, so that we have room to let some other people join.

I will also send out PMs with this deadline, hopefully tomorrow (no time anymore today) and an email to those people that I have or can find an email address of.

Thank you very much for understanding that I'm doing what I can to keep this story from dying.

Regards,
Irid

Ok, I heard from Seh, she will be taking absence time a bit longer because there are some debating competitions going on, so good luck to her!

That just leaves Merysa and Blyxx. Everyone else: I'd appreciate it if you posted before the deadline as well. I think two weeks should be enough to find an hour here or there to write a post. If it's not, I'd like to hear that so I can take it into account. Likewise, if you think there is not enough for you to make a post about and you have no inspiration, let me know. Any suggestions to make this more interesting for the players are welcome!

Hey Menweh,

Could you make sure you read all the other posts (or at least skim through them).  You missed attack of the pigeon!! ;)

Also, we do ask for slightly longer posts, although if it's just a one-off not-having-time thing, then I don't think we'll cause too much fuss.

Merysa and Blyxx are, I am sorry to say, now officially written out of the story. I will be thinking about how best to replace them. In the mean time, have fun posting! ;)

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC

Alright! Everyone should have something to react to, so knock yourself out and sorry that my post took longer than two weeks :P

I have the sad duty of having to announce that my dear co-moderator Khel, who played with us as Leon, feels that she doesn't have the time to continue playing, so unfortunately in my next post, Leon will be written out of the story. Khel still has the opportunity to come back if she wants to in the coming two weeks, just a post will suffice, but from my talk with her it would seem that she will not do that.

Khel, if you're reading this... It's been a pleasure writing together with you. I hope that some day you will find your way back to the Santharian dream, but either way I wish you all the luck you need in all your ventures!

SO! This means that, together with the departure of Merysa and Blyxx, we now have three spots open for players, and one for a moderator. The players will be recruited from the people who are not already playing in the story (because you can believe me that there's not much fun in playing with yourself!). If you feel that you would be well-suited for the position of moderator, please PM either myself or Rookie with your application and reasons for thinking that you should get the job ;) Then Rooks and I will evaluate the candidates (if any :p) and let you know our final decision.

Thanks for your attention ^.^

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Irid alMenie on January 10, 2009, 06:40:14 AM
Ok, a big thank you to Morden for inspiring me to write this post! I decided not to mind the not posting over the past month, but from now on things are back to normal.

Which means that I expect everyone to post WITHIN the next two weeks. At the very least, you don't have an excuse that nothing is happening! My next post will be made on Sunday the 18th, or perhaps on Monday the 19th because I might be away on a weekend with work until sunday night.

If you have not posted within the next two weeks, I will give you your first warning. You then have two more weeks to make a post. If in a month time you still have not posted, you will be written out of the story.

In my post I assumed that Xanth and Xander will solve the snake situation. One can only have just so many things clamouring for attention before something slips through ;)

And now... chop chop, get to posting! ;)

Thanks for the compliments, Irid and Rookie. I'm glad you enjoyed the post. And I very much liked both your posts. Irid, that certainly is an excellent twist in the story, and I'm glad my post gave you an opening for it. :)

I'm planning on delaying my next post 'til the end of the week. I want to give the others a good chance to reply to the last few events, but I also want to respond to Irid before her next post.

Thanks for letting me in on this story, I think its excellent. I hope we can will everyone into activity, 'cuz I love this story, personally.

It will take me a bit to get caught up on the story, my post will be posted no sooner than tomorrow evening or at the most the following day early. I did not say Morden was aware of Menweh's presence. Merely that he noticed she was missing, and had an uneasy feeling about where she went off to.

Or were you planning on blowing your cover in your next post?

Hehe, Morden my friend, your tendency for long posts is infectious

Someone else is going to have to explain our quest to you though, so you can decide to stay around for a bit (unless you're bored with the story, in which case you're still free to leave :P)

Maue... Any chance of a post the coming two weeks? I'd hate to have to write out two players in as many posts...

Everyone: perhaps after someone explains our quest to Morden and Ruka explains what happened to Irid, we can get some sleep and start out in the morning all refreshed for a day's ride! :D

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Rukaqua on March 09, 2009, 09:34:34 PM
If anyone feels I took liberties in moving the time onwards in my post then please let me know and I'll change it.  I purposely gave you some details of what Ruka might have said in the conversation too - I think this way we move on a bit quicker (because me and Irid have been plotting some excitement for the next village) and we still did the chatting without role playing it, which could take a long time.  But feel free to disagree! ;).

When everyone has settled down for the night we'll move the story to the morning, then everyone will get a post or two to get us off on our journey, and then we'll fast-forward again until we're in the village having something to eat (and possibly drink) in the tavern.  Sound good?

How about sad? Don't worry, you'll get your own back later, but for now I'd like some reactions to what has happened ^.^

Ok guys, here's your chance to get back at them!

Jaek, feel free to add your two sans to convince the others to help out.

Seh, could you perhaps slightly alter your last post to match mine? I'm sorry to have to do this but I needed those youths still more or less in good health ;) Xander can shoot one in the leg later, promise ;)

Everyone, I'm going to try to pick the pace up a little bit, so expect a new post some time at the end of the weekend or beginning of next week. I'd appreciate it if I could get some posts from  you guys before that time :)

Too lazy to change over to Jaek this mornin'/most days (uless postin'). Anyways, I won't be able to post today as I got tons of stuff to do (check-in on a job, finish cleanin' garage, make dinner, than softball tonight), but I'll have somethin' up friday.

Hey guys, I just heard from Garret that she doesn't know when exactly she'll be able to post, so Morden, if you want to post go ahead. Just assume that Jaek nods in agreement ^.^

I'm afraid that I'll need to put of posting for now, at least until the weekend. My tests are still ongoing, and I don't really have much time on the computer any more. I'll try my best though. :)

I'm really sorry guys, I'm around but at an all-time low creativity wise. I will try to get a post out within the next couple of days, hoping that it will get the creative juices flowing again. I'm really sorry for the delay.

Yus! So do you guys want to write a post about following me out or do I post puppeting you guys to where the group is?

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC

You can puppet me out. :)

Puppeting would be fine, Sim, then we can get the action going.

Hey Sim, are we going to get going again? I would hate to see this story fall inactive.

Is the puppeting going to make things more or less difficult for you? Right now, I just want to get back rolling again, so whatever makes your job easier is cool with me. :)

Sorry about the wait guys, things keep popping up that fill my evenings, so that's the reason I haven't been able to post yet. I should be free to post something tomorrow, unless I get around to it during my lunchbreak today.

I'll get to reading. Rooks is going to take on the youths, and Seh'nara hasn't posted yet so I'll poke her some time soon when I see her. Then I can post again ;)

I'll post the moment someone else posts, I don't like posting so close together, unless you'd like me too. Oh just a quick question can a mage hold more than one spell at a time? If so, there is going to be some fun times ahead!

Title: Re: In Search of a Druid: OOC
Post by: Irid alMenie on July 12, 2009, 03:59:48 PM
I'd say it depends on the level of the mage and the level of the spells (and how much concentration they need). But then, I don't know that much about magic ;)

Ok, someone feel free to lecture them on the whole insulting / tweaking hair thing, and her on the manipulation if you want to :P You can all describe how you knock the shit out of some youths, but please don't kill anyone, we don't want the whole village on our tail when we leave ;)
