Title: Chapter 4: And so it Begins...
Post by: Sinen Darkchild on June 23, 2003, 11:03:22 PM
(OOC: new chapter...lets get this story moving again.)

Heading north from Hog and a bit west as to avoid the Paelelon forest. Such a fine morning, little cloud cover in the sky, and a gentle breeze blowing. The song of birds hovers on the air. To the common person all seemed well, but to Sinen something seemed out of place. Sinen heads off on the path he chose Alia walking beside him.

ALIA "Sinen, I can tell that your a bit uneasy. What's wrong? And don't tell me nothing, I'm not stupid you know."

Sinen glances at Alia and then back straight before he even begins to speak.

SINEN "My dear Alia, the only thing that is wrong is that it is such a fine day, but my heart feels like it is a day of gloom. Something is odd. I can feel it." He drops to a hushed whisper "I feel as if many of the questions I've long tried to answer may soon near being answered. So long have I waited, but I wonder the cost to know the answer now."

Alia doesn't respond to this she just keeps walking beside Sinen as he leads the group to the town of Elsreth in search of the Spirit Dragons.

Fools rush into battle blindly, but who is really the fool? The fool or the fool who follows him.

Muargath followed along not far behind Sinen and Alia... close enough to hear them talking, but not enough to hear what was being said.  She was aware of Elende and Gashnum keeping pace nearby, yet she did not converse with anyone.  The day was sunny and bright.  Perfect.  Too perfect, it seemed.

Muargath still did not like the idea of going to Elsreth but hopefully the group would only be passing through in the night.  Hopefully...

They left Hog early in the morning. They were west of the Paelelon forest when the sun was high in the sky. For everyone  it seemed to be a perfect day, sunny and bright, a gentle breeze blowing and the songs of birds filling the air...For everyone but Elende it was.

If it was up to him he would travel during the night to avoid the bright sun. For all his life the sunlight was not his best friend. The pain from the sting of the sun rays was almost unbearable to him.

While everyone enjoyed this sunny day, Elende kept his hood on to protect his eyes, walking under the shade of trees or other features where he could. He only wished that the day would soon be over.

Gashnum sucked in the air of the new day with renewed vigor. Though he had travelled through this land a dozen times before, he took in every detail with delight. The sound of birds trilling around the trail. The comforting sound of old leather boots crunching on the sandy gravel at their feet.

In his right hand he held lightly the haft of his beloved spear. His leg was causing him only minor grievance and it bore his weight without too much of a limp. In the same hand as his spear he held the lead to his horse, wrapped tightly through his fingers. The loyal animal was packed with fresh supplies, and most of the gear brough along by the company.

He looked around to the rest of the group, noting that there was very little conversation. Everyone seemed to be basking in the sunny morning cool, and the beauty of nature. Except Elende, Gashnum noticed that the elf carried himself as though being in such a happy place burned him to the core. Not to mention the hood he carried.

The trader wiped the sheet of perspiration from his brow with his free left hand and broke into a light jog to catch up with Muargath. His horse neighed softly behind as it was forced forward sharply by the short lead.

"Such a beautiful day, don't you think?" he asked her, keeping his eyes forward. He walked quite close to her. So that only she could hear his voice.

Gararion followed close to Elende as he grew quite curious of this elf and he seemed the only one not talking to another.  With that Gararion spoke up.

"Weather not to you taste sir?"

Elende heard someone approaching  and then a voice came from behind him.
"Weather not to you taste sir?"
As he turned his head to meet the voice he saw a figure that must have been Gararion. He made a slight grin that could barely be seen from under his hood.
"It's the sun....the rays....it feels like burning arrows piercing my eyes. For as long as I can remember myself I avoided the sunlight. I was born with this...eeemmm...curse?"

There was silence for a few seconds, then Elende turned once again towards Gararion.

" Do you happen to know anything of this fire gem or of the purpose of our travelling to Elsreth?"

She heard him jogging up before he spoke, even amid the clomping of his unhappy packhorse. "Such a beautiful day, don't you think?"

Muargath smiled and replied just as quietly, "Yes, and if I'm not careful when we get to Elsreth, it might be one of the few remaining sunny days for me, for a long, long while... assuming I am lucky enough to get cell-time even.  Hmmm.  By the time we reach the northern edge of the Paelelon Forest, I should have my decision on whether to continue on or not."  She slowly shook her head, her long, white hair smooth against the thrown-back hood of her woven cloak.  "I don't have any real proof this gem exists.  Sinen hasn't shared anything he knows about it and my faith can only stretch so far..."

"So the big question is, do I believe enough in a child's tale to risk my life and freedom for it?"  Muargath looked over to Gashnum.  "It's a mighty tough call."

Gashnum nodded sagely. He didn't know exactly why Muargath didn't want to go into Elsreth. The two companions walked on in silence for a few moments. Gashnum pulled a pewter canteen from a pouch at his belt, unscrewed the tin cap and took a long drink of the herbaly infused water. He exhaled happily as he felt the water slide down his throat and coat his stomach.

He passed the canteen to Muargath. "Here, you look like you could use a sip. Tis only water."

As Muargath took the proffered canteen Gashnum continued in a lower voice.
"You don't need to worry about the reality of the stone. I know that it is more than a mere childs bed-time story."

The trader shrugged his shoulders emphatically.
"Besides, aren't all stories based in truth.?"

He continued in his quiet tone.
"And if your worried about being spotted once we reach the town, I believe I have a sufficient amount of clothing which would disguise you quite effectivly."

He looked to his friend and shrugged again.

HE goes back to that tower when he last saw sinnen and they defeated the mage trying to remember what exactly happened and how he got out of the tower. He remembered falling when he tried to get up after expended so much energy and then cold. imense cold and after that everythign is blank until he woke up alone in the forest outside the tower*

Muargath took the metal canteen from Gashnum gratefully and had a long drink of the cool, herbal water.  Mmmm.  That's good.  I should ask him how he makes this...  She took another, long drink before handing it back.  Some of it had dribbled to her chin and she wiped that with her sleeve.

Glancing around to make sure they weren't overheard, she whispers, "You mentioned that before, but I've yet to hear your take on it.  You, my friend, are about as forth-coming on information as Sinen is," she teased, "but I suppose I can wait until you are ready to share."

Muargath linked her arm though Gashnum's and drew even closer, "Clothes may or may not help to disguise me... I'm afraid I have angered some people in Elsreth that could very well see through such a casual illusion."  She cautiously looked back between them toward the Gararion, who was now over by the dark elf.  Together they shadowed the rest of the group along the treeline.  She drew her gaze back to Gashumn and looked up into his brown eyes, deepset in a rugged face.  Tugging his arm lightly for emphasis, she added, "At first, I thought he, the elf-mage, was one of them.  But now?  I think not."

She sighed softly, with a touch of regret.  "I believe that even you might not want to travel with me, if you only knew the trouble I bring on my heels..."

Gararion nodded his head in reply.

"I know little more then any of yous do, though I have this feeling that I have heard of such a tale within my teachings within Ximax.  Thus here I am, to follow my instincts and search this gem out for myself to settle my mind."

Gararion paused for a moment then continued.

"What choice lead you to join us good sir?"

Elende noted Gararion's words carefully. In fact, he wasn't sure if he should be worried that  another one knew so little about this gem or pleased that he wasn't the only one. Elende took a deep breath before answering Gararion's question.

"What choice...well....sometimes we do thing that we do not comprehend. We act in ways for no apparent goal with no abvius goal in mind. Sometimes only we retrospect we can discover the purpose of our actions....but this is not exactly an answer is it?"

Gararion nobbed his headed slighty and smiled kindly or at least Elende though so.

"Maybe the true reason was to find myself to seek my destiny. You may say that in a way we are both for the same reasons.....we are following our instincts a call from within ourselves"

Muargath looked around at Sinen, more than a little dismayed that they were going to camp that night in such a open place- practically on the roadway as it were, and less than a day's hard ride south of Elsreth.  "Sh...shouldn't we at least leave the road?  Maybe, go to the west a bit?  or east, beyond the treeline?"

Muargath nodded in comprehension of the acute silence, the only answer to her question.

With a small sigh, she shrugged her shoulders and moved to the side of the road.  An old tree had fallen long ago and now she rested against its solid, grey trunk.  "Your choice then..." she mumbled, mostly to herself.  She glanced at Gashnum and then away, in to the shadowly woodland to the east.  Muargath pulled her woven cloak atighter round her thin frame with an air of petulance around her...

As the sun went down and night came Elende begun to feel more comfortable with the surroundings. He was surely tired like anyone else from the journey but that seemed to be unimportent now.

Sinen told everyone that it was time to stop and camp. No one seemed to have an opposite opinion, or at least no one seemed to care that much. No one but Muargath.

For some reason she didn't want to camp in this location. Soemthing in her tone made Elende believe that she was scared of something. What, he couldn't even guess.

Everyone seemed to be silent. Everyone occupied with their own thoughts. Elende walked towards Muargath and sat next to her. He took a look at the endless sky. With his eyes still looking the night sky he spoke up.

" You seem worried about something. At least for tonight you can feel safe. I will keep an eye open. I just don't feel like sleeping."

Sinen hadn't spoken to the group for the whole day and as the sun began to sink over the western horizon he decided to set camp basically on top of the road. Muargath voiced her opinion in the matter saying that it would be safer to camp behind the treeline. Gashnum knew that was coming. Gashnum moved across the roadd pulling his horse with him,  and sat next to Muargath. Duster settled his head in the woman's lap, the dog was tired from the day's march. If anyone else was they weren't showing it. Gashnum sat with a long sigh, and then a deep breath in.

He aknowledged Elende's prescence with a polite nod of his head.
He spoke in a soft fatherly tone
" Muargath, i'm sure it would be no problem for just a few of us to camp beyond the treeline, out of sight of the road." Gashnum gestrued to his horse, laden as it was with all kinds of gear.
"It would be no problem if you are that concerned"

Listening to Muargath's complaint he looks right at her...

SINEN "There are reasons not to go beyond the treeline this night. Things lurk around here at night that I wish to avoid. The point of being within road site is so that any traveling by here can be seen and can see. I fear no person, but I do fear some creatures. Now the important thing is that while I plan to set camp off the path, not beyond the tree line, but under the trees. Watch shall need to be kept though I will do most. I only want to be here to eat and grap a few hours sleep. We are to set out before sun rise."

Sinen watches for Muargath's reaction.

Muargath looked up at Elende and Sinen in muted suspicion- Gashnum's concern she could understand- but all of a sudden it seemed everyone else was worried about what she wanted... after so many unacknowledged protestations on her part.

To Elende she said quietly, "Thank you, I appreciate your offer."  She looked at Sinen, "You do what you feel is right for the party."

After a few moments, she leaned in toward Gashnum and whispered, "What do you suggest?  That we camp a bit further into the trees than what Sinen proposes?"  She looked at the shadowy treeline which seemed menacing, but feared staying out in the open even more...

"I do suggest just that" Gashnum nodded to Muargath, keeping his voice low enough. Gashnum rose slowly to his feet, using his spear as a support he walked the short distance to his horse.

"Before we break camp, I suggest we have something to eat" He began to search for the large sack containing food.

"If someone could start a fire.." he turned from his horse to look towards the rest of the group, frying pan and food in his hand. A smile on his face at the thought of food. His gaze passed Muargath who was still siting and he winked, a friendly twinkle in his eye.

Muargath's stomach grumbled at the suggestion of food.  I hope its more of those lovely sausages!  "Very well... I'll gather some dry wood."  And scout a little of the woods while I am at it...  Muargath stood up and nodded respectfully to the dark elf.

"Thanks again for your offer, Elende.  I will sleep better knowing you are awake and on nightwatch."   She smiled at him and then headed toward the tree line.

At she reached the first tree, she stopped and doffed her cloak; this was then held down by the scant weight of her slingbag.  With nary a backward glance at the party, Muargath walked into the deeper shadows of the woods, picking her way through the underbrush nearly without noise...

With a fleeting sense of aloneness Gashnum watches Muargath melt into the treeline. He see's her off with a silent prayer to himself. Hoping that nothing befalls her while she is away from the group, himself in particular. Duster, torn between his master and Muargath almost follows the woman into the trees, but when the dog sees that it's almost time to eat it returns loyally to his masters and sits at his side.

A moment later Gashnum watches Dray head in the other direction in search of wood, only to return moments later, laden with fuel of the fire. And with an effortless gesture sets the wood aflame.

Gashnum settles himself near the fire having gathered his wooden cutting board and a knife from a small cedar chest. The merchant sits with his legs folded one over the other, his old wound bothering him, not at all. From his sack he pulles another rope of the sausages and arranges them in the over-used skillet at his side. Also from the sack Gashnum selects several large, dried bell peppers. After slicing them up with skilled hands he scoops the vegetables into the skillet with his hand.

He rises from his rear to scoot the pan into the fire, close enough to cook, but not close enough to burn. Then settles back onto his haunches.

Soon the delicious aroma of the cooking food fills the campsite, accomponied by the cozy sizziling of the sausages and the occaisional popping of the coals.

She didn't need to go too far before she found a small glade.  Even in the falling dusk this peaceful area, open to the sky, had much more light than the woodlands.  Late afternoon birdsong filled the air, as did the scent of wildflowers.  A thriving blackberry-bush distracted her from her search for firewood and Muargath stopped to pick a handfull of the sweet berries, sampling a few as she did so.  They were juicy and delicious.  Might as well eat the rest, I've no way to carry them!  She decided to bring some back for the others but she didn't have a container.  Taking her small knife from her belt, Muargath cut six of the more heavily-laden branches, careful not to shake any fruit off.  Humming softly to herself as she worked, Muaragth carved off enough thorns so they wouldn't stick into her hands.

Muargath made her way back, feeling a little guilty for not getting any wood for the fire until she saw the flames and smelled the cooking sausage ahead.  She smiled, glad that someone else took care of the task.

Exiting the line of trees, she stepped up closer to Gashnum.  "No dry wood in there, but I did find these..."  She flattened a patch of grass and lay the branches there.  "Didn't have a bowl or a sack, so I brought them on the stick.  Here, try one.  They are wonderful!"  She grinned as she picked a round berry and held it up to her friend's lips with two blue-stained fingers.  "I've already had several..."  She winked.

Everyone was busy now either gahtring wood or helping Gashnum to prepare the meal. Elende had almost disappered beyond the treeline observing the surrounding. If anything happens it would be wise to be familiar with the layout of the location. With his hands ready to draw his scimitars and his senses alert as always he scanned the surroundings. He made mental notes of everything he could, trying to determine the best way for an ambush, the possible escape routes, the most favourable defensive position.

After a sevral minutes the dark elf returned. A fire had been started and Gashnum had already started cooking. The aroma filling the air. Although Elende feared that tthe fire and smell of food could  attract unwanted visitors he was hungry enough to let his worries pass.

Elende approached Gashnum as the latter put some more sausages on his pan. He didn't say anything at first, observing Gashnum's cooking art for a few moments.

Do you think there is anough for anyone? The forest can provide us with additional food if we need it.

Gashnum looked at the elf for a moment and  then at his suppliers, thinking whether he had enough food for everyone.

Crouched as she was next to Gashnum, Muargath looked up at the dark elf as he approached and asked, "Do you think there is anough for anyone? The forest can provide us with additional food if we need it."

Muargath smiled, "Yes.  I found these already.  I'm sure there are more... maybe even some nuts and roots."  She glanced at the packhorse and wondered if suitable containers could be found among the bundles.  She lightly elbowed her peddler-friend.  "What do you think, Gashnum?  Should I go pick some more?   These berries I brought won't last beyond this meal, but there were plenty more in that glade. Sitting around by the fire, not paying much attention to what the others were doing. There was that sound again. What was it? It was odd to say the least. Standing and walking torwards the trees slowly, hand on his sword hilt. Alia, sensing whatever Sinen had heard follows him, both wondering if the others had heard anything.

It seemed that there was enough food for everyone for tonight. The dark elf started wa;king away from Muargath and Gashnum when he though he had heard a strange noise. Something felt out of place. He looked around him for anything supsicious but nothing could be seen. He checked on the others but no one seemed to have heard that sound....no one but Sinen who seemed as alert and worried as he was.

As he moved towards Sinen, he turned to Muargath.

" You'd better stay close with the others.....and have a weapon ready...be wary."

Elende  reached Sinen, when the latter was only a few steps away from the tree line, Alia following him closely.
At last he whispered to him.

" You've heard that as well haven't you? Any idea what it may be?"

"Yes I do...They had been many hushed reports recently of demon kin in this area lurking in the woods around here. Thus my decision not to go beyond the tree line. Not just any demon's these are either. They are chasm demons by report which means one thing, they are commanded here by one very powerful person. One very powerful and very evil person. I feared this would happen."

Sinen looks back to Alia, nods once and pulls his sword from his sheath. the blade, upon clearing the scabbard, glows a purplish tinge. His silver ring giving a similiar glow.

"It is no chance that these demons are here watching us and waiting to strike. Someone is trying to stop us on our quest."

"Oh there's quite enough for all of us i'm sure" Gashnum said as he pulled the skillet from the fire and set it in the grass to cool for a few moments. He hoped that Muargath would stay with him by the fire, he rather enjoyed her company.

Muargath knelt down next to him as Sinen, Alia and Elende left to go investigate the treeline. He accepted the berry from Muargath with a smile and gestured towards the recently cooked food, inviting her to have some. Gashnum took a branch of the berries from Muargath and began to pluck several off, he tossed them into his mouth with vigor. Once in his mouth the berries exploded with juice, they were indeed perfect.

Gashnum took a piece of rolled up hide from his trouser pocket and unrolled it. Inside were about half a dozen crude wooden forks with three prongs, he had carved them himself. He gave one to  Muargath, and then knelt forward himself and skewered a plump sausage from the pan. He leaned back from the fire, sitting close enough to Muargath to feel her presence through his cloak. The two sat quietly for a moment, enjoying their meal as the last glimmer of sunlight faded from the western horizon.

Gashnum spoke conversationaly around bites of his sausage. Gesturing with his fork to the trees.
"I do hope they don't run into any trouble out there...."

Demons...foul beasts of darkness were now after them. Too bad for them , Elende thought.

In a blink of the eye, Elende had his black scimitars ready and waiting in his hands. Still looking inside the woods he grinned, it is the time of the hunter once again,  Arvins be my witness . He almost spoke the last sentence out loud because of his excitement.

"Sinen, are we going after them or wait for them here and let them have a taste of our hospitality"
The dark elf was smiling he was almost laughing as he was speaking to Sinen, it was a smile reveaeling a darker side...the hunter had awaken.

Muargath munched on a sausage thoughtfully as she watched Sinen and the others disappear into the woods.

"I didn't hear anything, but then, I'm not an elf."  She looked at Gashnum, "The woods seemed perfectly safe when I was in there..."  She shrugged and took another bite of sausage.  Still, she did keep her knife handy...

"We're going demon hunting, Elende. I don't like demons. Especially ones who lurk unseen."

He looks back at Alia as they pass into the trees.

"You ready, Alia?"

She smiles and replies, "Of course."

Noticeably, she has no weapon drawn.

With his scimitars ar hand Elende moved further into the woods, melting into the shadows becoming one himself.

He was seperated from Sinen and Alia maintaining a skirmish formation. Three persons together are much easier to spot than three individuals, after all. Suddenly he heard a strange noise coming from deeper into the woods.

Elende noted the location it came from. He paused for a moment to notice the layout of the surrounding, the direction of the wind and the position of the moon with respect to him. Through years of training and hunting in the Paelelon forest this procedure had become a natural reaction.

Remaining unseen and unheard, he began to approach the place the sound came from. It won't be long before I come up close with one of them . With that thought , Elende took a look at his weapons and then at the moon as if he was searching for something and whispered to himself

" Arvins grant me strength"

Noting Elende moving away from him and Alia he nods for Alia to move off in the other direction as he continues on his current path. A noise ahead of him alerts him to the presence of demons just a little further. Sword in hand, He creeps slowly forward careful not to make any noise. Up ahead a spaced out area comes into view. The clearing was no surprise to Sinen, but what was within was almost sickening. Sinen counted somewhere around 15 Chasm Demons, grayish skinned demons with goat-like legs gathered around a figure in a black cloak. 10 of the demons carried swords wrought of Abyssal Fire while 5 seemed to be unarmed except their unatural claws and teeth. The cloaked figure was speaking and after a moment Sinen's ears began to pick it up...

CLOAKED FIGURE "...Tonight their search stops. Tonight Darkchild dies. Go my friends. Go and destroy all who live that travel with him or pass by at the moment."

The figure turns as to walk away, takes one step and vanishes. The demons turn to advance in the direction of the camp, but before they begin the horn at Sinen's side finds his lips and a blast rings out across the trees and land, a blast that lingers on the wind for what feels like ages after it ends. With the sound still ringing in his ears, Sinen charges into the clearing. Reaching the nearest demon, he ducks an Abyssal Fire blade and drives his sword up into the demon's torso. Without checking to see if it was dead he spun around and parried a blow from another demon's sword.

Not far off Alia heres the horn sound and runs in the direction of the clearing. When she reaches it she finds Sinen taking on 15 demons all by himself, and seeming to manage just fine. Still, no body can manage 15 demons alone but for so long. Closing her eyes, she begins to move her hands around in an odd motion much like weaving. Meanwhile, Sinen ducks a blade to meet another with his sword. Leaping over a third he drives his straight down into a demon. It staggers as he pulls it out, but continues trying to kill him. Away in the direction Elende went the sound of more demons coming in his direction is heard, likewise from the direction Alia had been heading. Sinen spins, blocking another blow, and driving his blade into a demon's face, spins and ducks just seconds before the jet of Abyssal fire from one of the unarmed demon's reached him. Rolling away from a demon's blade he looks up just in time to see a Demon with its ugly evil grin staring down at him, blade ready to strike. However, before the demon can a pointed spire of earth shoots up from under the demon impaling him and carying him several feet into the air. Sinen glances over to find Alia, leaps to his feet and cleaves a demon's head off.

Fools rush into battle blindly, but who is really the fool? The fool or the fool who follows him.

It happened only moments after Sinen, Alia and Elende disappeared into the shadows.  Muargath straightened up, her attention on the distant horn-blast emitting from the direction that the trio had gone...

"Gashnum?"  She said cautiously as she stood and looked around.  Except for Dray and the packhorse, the two were alone by the fire in the gathering dusk... and it looked like Dray was torn between staying here to guard or running to help his friend.  There was no doubt that the horn was Sinen's.  To Dray she only said, "Go!  Go help them!"  Somehow she knew that the elf would not call for help lightly.

And what else she knew was the fire would be a beacon to danger.  So she quickly pulled the sausage pan to the side, scalding her hand in the process but she ignored the pain.  Muargath began to frantically push dirt and rocks to snuff out the flames.  "What do you think it is, Gashnum?  They wouldn't be more dark elves, would they?  I.. I mean that Elende wouldn't let them attack us.... right?"

He had barely managed to make a few steps when, he heard  the sound of a horn filling the air, a mighty blast that made even the trees to shake. At the same moment he heard footsteps approaching the source of the sound. Within a heartbeat the forest was filled with demons.
"No point in using stealth any more"

The sound of swords ringing and of battle could be heard from where Sinen and Alia was. And to make matters worse more demons were coming from his direction, charging towards Sinen's position.  Elende was torn between fighting off this new wave of demons or running to help Sinen.

I will intersept the new wave to stall them and give more time to Sinen while retreating  slowly towards him. It is better to fight them together.

Still remaining hidden, the demons were closing in. When the leading demon was within stricking distance, Elende leapt out of his hidding place. The demon surpised by the presence of the dark elf had no time to raise his sword to parry the incoming scimitars that sunk deep inside the demon's side.

Elende quickly turned around to met the next foul beast. Luckily it was several peds away. Without a second thought Elende turned and vanished into the shadows and ran to Sinen's assistance.

The demons on seeing this new target let a hideous scream and began running after him. Within a few heartbeats Elende had reached the clearing where Sinen was fighting off against a dozen of demons. Alia standing a few feets away was chanting and making strange gestures, clearly was helping Sinen with her magic.

As Sinen was parrying blows coming from every direction he couldn't notice the two Demons chrging from behind. The first was unarmed and the one further away with his sword of fire raised high.
Elende ran as fast as he could to meet them. With the demon having his sight locked on Sinen,it didn't notice the dark elf coming from his side. Elende came in with his shoulder pushing and throwing the demon on the ground. Quickly regainng his footing, Elende raised both his blades in a V-shape to meet the demon's. When the three blades met, Elende pushed the all sideways, he span on the other direction to complete the manuever and with all the momentum of this rotation he sent his scimitars to meet the demon's back. At the last moment he reversed the grip on his sword and with all his strength he sank them deep into the demon.

He put his foot on the demon's back in order to push and retrieve his swords, when he heard somenone coming from the direction of their camp. At first Elende feared that there was another group of demons that charged their camp first, for a moment elende though that Muargath and Gashnum might lie dead already. Fortunately when he turned his head what he saw was Dray approaching. Releived Elende turned his attention on more pressing matters.

Dusk had fallen to night.

The stars were the only light Muargath could go by now that the fire was out.  It wasn't enough.  She saw the tall silhouette that was Dray hesitate for a moment before running off toward the black tree line.  The clashing of weapons echoed from the woods.

Muargath wanted to run... she did not know what could be out there in the darkness.  She didn't want to know.  Gashnum's packhorse stomped the ground nervously, voicing its dislike of the situation as some horses do.  Muargath instinctively reached out and grasped hold of the animal's long reins, just to keep him steady.

Trying not to panic, she whispered, "What now Gashnum?  What now?"  She peered around them in the shadowy gloom, keeping special attention to the trees.  Her right hand still gripped the leather straps, now drawn tight by the frightened horse, she stretched out her left hand and found her friend's arm.  He'd been so silent, she was almost afraid he'd abandoned her.  She patted Gashnum's shoulder, more to assuage her own fears than to comfort him, and was about to say something else when she noticed a dark shape splitting from the shadow of the tree line.

The shadow fairly bolted straight toward them and for a second, Muargath thought that Dray was returning.  Only for a second though, because nothing human could run that fast!  Nothing!  The packhorse panicked, sensing a predator's arrival, and pulled back suddenly.  The reins were yanked from Muargath's hand, nearly pulling her off balance.  "Gashnum!  Guard... guard!"

She pulled the small dagger from its sheath and stood, placing herself between the charging shadow and her friend, or so she meant to do- it was too fast!  Muargath barely had a moment to take in the beastial features, the massive, inhuman muscles and the huge metal sword it bore easily in one, clawed hand before she was slammed off her feet!

She flew a couple peds and landed hard on her back, the wind knocked out of her small frame...

*Dray heard the horn and was torn he did not know the capabilities of the girl and the man had his limp. He shouldn't leave them. The girl must have seen his tourmoil and told him to go help Sinen. Dray nod and takes off drawing both his swords. Dray can hear growls and grunts and soon sees the demons attacking Sinen Alia and the dark elf. Dray barly has time to react as a demon races past those and keeps going by him as Dray dives aside. He gets ready to give chase, but seconds later another demon charges at him and Dray parries the blow from its sword and strikes with his other weapon causing a slight wound not near enough to slow this demon though*

"Sinen!! Do these things have a weakness or some kind!?"

*Dray yells and hopes he will hear the answer as he slices the demon in 2 more places while parring its blade. The demon gives up on its sword and starts swing its massive arms and using its claws on its hands to attack Dray. Dray dances backwards blocking arms and dodging swipes Dray backs up against a tree and as the demon swings Dray dives under its legs and twists his body around driving both swords deep into the demons under side. It howls in pain, but keeps comming. Dray now on the ground get to a crouch as the demon races at him. Dray jumps at the last second and lands a perfectly placed kick to the side of the demons head and brings his other leg around and hits the demon right in the face with his metal shinguards as it recoils from the first kick. Dray falls and gets hit by the demon on his way down and hits the ground hard. The demon stumbles and falls to a knee. Dray not wasting any time draws a dagger from his boot and dives right at the demons head the dagger sinks into an eye and Dray knocks th demon over as it dies. Dray withdraws his blades from the body and looks for the others to see if they need help*

Gashnum was lost in the flames, it seemed as though they were calling to him.. they wanted him to fall asleep, but he wasn't yet tired.

Gashnum.... Gashnum!

"Gashnum! Guard!" with a start Gashnum stood up in time to see Muargath bowled over by a creature, the likes of which he had never dreamt he would see. Gashnum quickly took stock of the situation, the demon was approaching Muargath, and he was unarmed.

Duster was standing in between Muargath's fallen body and the demon. The hounds hackles were on end and its lips were curled back in a fearsome snarl. It didnt' back away even when the demon began to advance on the dog.

Using this moment, Gashnum lifted his spear from the ground, and began running towards Muargath. The demon was much faster and reached the fallen woman before he could. Duster bit viciously at the demon's ankle but was backhanded by the beast and the dog flew several peds away and then lay quiet. At that moment Gashnum reached Muargath's side. Holding the spear defensivly towards the demon with one hand, he tried to raise Muargath with the other. If he could get her on her feet it would be easier to fend of the demon.

Click here to see a Chasm Demon

Muargath's head swam as she fought to regain her breath.  Stars danced before her eyes.  She heard a ruckus that fast closed on her; the snapping and growling of a dog, footsteps pounding on the dirt and farther away, the shrill call of a frightened horse.  There followed an overwhelming sulpheric stench and she knew the beast approached.  Then someone was pulling on her arm; she scrabbled to her feet amid the chaos...

~~~
The soldier demon stormed into the make-shift camp, startling the only mount.  Gr'uk'klk knew that others would be close behind, but these were "his" kills.  Glorious kills.  He would gut them alive and devour their insides before the others arrived, this he promised himself.  But one dared oppose him and he easily batted this white-haired human out of his way.  Annoyed, he decided to follow through and kill the female first.  A snarling dog jumped in his way.  The soldier bypassed the puny beast and reached for the dazed female with his massive hand, but then the dog sunks it's teeth into the soldier's tough hide, just above the hoof.  To the demon it was only a nip, but it still angered him enough to pause and bat the distraction out of the way.
When Gr'uk'klk turned back to his prey, he discovered the other human there, helping the fallen one to her feet.  If it were possible to stretch his toothy grimace into a smile, the demon would have done so.  Sport was always welcome!  It made the innards tastier, too.  He grunted and backed up a step, well balanced on his cloven hooves.  Red eyes gleaming, the demon brandished his heavy sword and summoned the hellfires forth to course the length of the blade.
This blade, illuminated by the unearthy flames, swung down from overhead at the human with the wooden spear...
~~~

She gained her footing with Gashnum's help.  And just as her vision returned to normal, such as it is in pitch on night, their attacker's weapon flared and lit the area with sickly red and orange flame!  Muargath's eyes grew wide as she faced the infernal beast, something she never before encountered or heard of!  She ducked behind Gashnum, too afraid to utter word nor shriek!  Her hand went to her empty sheath.  Her dagger!  She must have dropped it... her eyes searched the ground and saw the glint of the silver blade- in the dirt at the beast's feet, er, hooves.  Her friend, with his longspear, must fend of the creature alone...

"man these things are UGLY!!!"

*Dray exclaims as he sidesteps and downward stroke. Knowing is one of these things hits Dray might as well be dinner his swords are out still parrying and attacking. He leaves multiple pierce wounds on the demon, but even though it bleeds for countless stabs it keeps comming just as strong as before.*

"Man what do I gotta do to these things!"

*Dray tries to spy any others bue he can only hear the other blades clanging and demon's grunting and hollering. Dray catches the demons blade between both of his and forces back the demon and Dray comming almost face to face staring each other down. The demon grins his wicked grin because he and Dray both know he is stronger as he starts to push down on Dray's blades and slowly Dray starts to give way. Try as he might he cannot gain ground against this thing. Dray musters all he strength and forces a few inches back against the demon and then quickly pulls his blades away and the demon stumbles forward and Dray drives both of his blades into its back. The demon stays down this time*

"Finally, these things are kicked my butt though!"

*Dray looks and sees another charging and quickly summons his magic to him. Dray reaches back and as the demon charges Dray sits in waiting. As the demon swings his sword falls to his knees under the swing and uppercuts the demon in the lower abdomen and unleashes the magic stored in his fist and ice spears dig into the demons chest and the ice freezes its veins and goes into its body stopping the demon as part of its abdomen freezes killing it quickly.*

"Thats more like it now for the next one."

*Dray sees it comming and knowing it probally won't fall for the same move since it was watching from behind Dray stalks around in circles with it Dray then charges foward and thrusts his fist into the chest of the demon, but as it tends to do his magic failed him. Dray quickly rolls to the side and scissors the demons leg between his and trips the demon. Dray quickly gets to his feet and races back and retrieves his swords with the demon in quick pursuit*

Title: Re: Demons....
Post by: Elende on July 26, 2003, 11:35:22 AM
Elende had made the greatest mistake any warrior can make, he had underestimated his opponents. Having taken down two of them already, he thought the demon were an easy target.

Elende had just retrieved his swords, when the demon he pushed stood up. The two of them were looking at each others eyes for a few moments, waiting for the other to make the first move. The demon proved to be the most impatient. Letting a foul scream he charged towards thje dark elf.

Elende was surpised by the demon's speed, and only in the last moment did he manage to step aside avoiding the demon's ferocius charge. Although the demon's claw grazed Elende's leather armour. The demon quickly turned around and charged again. This time Elende didn't have time to move away.

The demon jumped at him and Elende had began falling doen before the demon touched him. With both his swords held high up in front, the elf fell to the ground. The demon followed, its torso meeting with great speed the two black blades. The two swords sunk deep into the demon's torso, their tips coming out on the other side of the demon's back.

The demon screamed in agony but refused to surrender to its wounds. Although its hands were numbed from the pain, he kept on coming at Elende trying to bite him. Elende tried to avoid the bites but pinned down as he was, he had very limited space to move. At last the demon managed to  sink its teeth into Elende's shoulder. The elf cried in agony. He twisted his blades as hard as he could in order to finish the foul beast off, but to no avail.  He felt his muscles being torn apart by the demon maw.

With great effort Elende maneged to slip a foot underneath the demon's belly. Summoning all his strength he pushed the demon away. Luckily for the elf the demon's grip was loosened and he manegd to push it away.

Elende stood up quickly and again the two of them looked at each other in the eyes. Elende was covered in blood now, both his own and the demon's. The infernal beast cried loudly and begun moving towards Elende. This time the elf was ready for the charge but it never happened. The demon made a couple of steps and then stumbled and fell to the ground  finally surrendered to its wounds.

A wicked grin spread across the demons face as it took another step toward Gashnum. Its cloven hooves sunk several inches into the dirt, its forked tounge lashed in and out of its mouth accompanied by a low growling that reverberated deep in Gashnum's chest. The sound filled his heart with a driving fear, like a knife cutting butter it began to slice away his courage. The demon took another step forward, bringing him ever closer to Gashnum it was perhaps a single ped away when it struck.

The demon lashed out with its flaming sword, swinging the blade in a downward motion meant to split Gashnum from top to bottom. The man saw the strike coming and he dropped to the ground and rolled to the right. The demonsword struck the ground causing the ground to tremble, missing Gashnum by only a hairs-breadth. Gashnum was so close it felt as though the world was coming to an end. The demon was poised above him, he could feel its terrible presence. A cold sweat stood out on the mans brow.

After his roll Gashnum ended up on his knees almost directly under the demon. Swallowing hard, and gripping his spear tightly, he spotted his chance, and thrust the weapon into the demon's belly. Gashnum forced all of his might into the strike. The sharpened steel tip punched through the demon's thick hide with little resistance, Gashnum stood up to push the weapon further into the demonic beast. Less than a heartbeat later with a final push and a grunt from Gashnum the spear's tip exited through the demons back. Utterly spent Gashnum fell limply to the ground.

With a sick sence of failure Gashnum realized he had hardly slowed the beast down, his hands and clothes were covered in demonic ichor. The demon stood over him again blocking out the rest of the dark world, its blood dripped down onto Gashnum. Its wound was grievous but, for now, it was living. The demon leered down at Gashnum, having retrieved its sword from the ground. Unable to move, Gashnum waited for the strike to come down and end his life...

Muargath saw a flash of fire from above as the blade descended.  Gashnum was suddenly gone then, having rolled out of the way of the blade's path to end up closer in to the evil menace.  The burning sword's tip barely missed him but it also came very close to hitting her, too, since she'd been right behind him!

Now down in front, Gashnum skewered the demon with his longspear- driving it all the way at an upward angle through the the beast's chest- before collapsing to the ground.  The deep gray blood flooded out and splashed all over.  It pooled around the demon's hooves as if it were an oily, liquid ash, reflecting the sickly, flickering, orange light.  Gashnum was covered in it.  The hell-beast peered at Gashnum with its glowing red eyes, focusing on the human who'd wounded it so.

Muargath took advantage of Gashnum's offensive to move- she slipped around behind the demon to retrieved her dagger.  Crouched on the ground, she glanced up and caught Gashnum's eyes and the look of defeat she saw there nearly broke her heart.  The demon swayed above them, but it did not fall... was it dead on its feet or just catching its breath?  Whatever it was doing, the beast still had its flaming blade gripped firmly in its clawed fist and that made it a threat.

With a last determined look at her friend Muargath stood, backed up a couple of steps, then ran full tilt at the demon , leaping upward at the last second!  She got enough lift to reach the mid-back.  Grasping a thick spine with her left hand, dagger in right, she dug the silvered blade into the demon's thick hide.  The creature bellowed and spun around, forgetting Gashnum.  She hung on, bracing her feet as well as she could!  Muargath traded for another spine higher up, then pulled out the dagger and plunged it in even higher and thus she climbed onto the tall beast's shoulders.  The demon circled around, unable to reach this deadly annoyance centered on its back!  It screached and howled in anger, until finally bringing it's own flaming blade overhead to kill the elusive backstabber!  Muargath saw it coming.  She jumped away as the demon plunged its own sword into its back- too crazed from the pain to realize its mistake.  Muargath landed hard on the ground, misjudged due to the darkness, and her wrist bent awkwardly.  She yelped at the sharp pain.  But there was no time to nurse a wound!   Muargath rolled out of the way as the hell-beast fell, nearly crushing her under its dead weight... the abyssil fire extinguished within the body of that which had called it forth.

Darkness reined again, but Muargath could still hear the distant fighting in the woods.  She sat in the dirt like a toddler.  Cradling her wrist close to her chest, still gripping the dagger in her right hand, Muargath waited a few moments in the blackness, straining to hear it move,  just to be sure the creature was truly dead.  She could hear breathing and guessed it was Gashnum.

A few moments later Muargath ventured to speak, although she kept her voice to an urgent whisper.  She was afraid to attract more of the beasts, "Gashnum?  Are you hurt?"  She peered around in the darkness willing herself to see, but it was no use.

Gashnum could just see the demon's outline in the dark. Its sword was a long streak of flame, poised over his head. Suddenly the demon let out a shriek and spun around swatting at its back. Gashnum had to scramble on his hands an knees to avoid being smashed beneath the demonic hooves. He stopped a short distance later and watched the demon. It was then that he realized that Muargath had attached herself to the demon's back. Gashnum's stomach nearly leapt into his throat. Either she was the bravest woman he had ever meat, or the most insane. With another moment of thought Gashnum settled on the first.

With a strange twist of fate the demon impaled itself on its own sword, staggered for a moment then fell to the ground in a pool of its own blood. Gashnum's spear protruded from its chest, Gashnum could see the steel point glinting in the starlight. He lay still in the dark, listening to the sounds of battle from the forest, he hoped his companions were winning that battle.

From out of the night a slightly shaken, but very alive voice, drifted from the darkness.
"Gashnum? Are you hurt?"

It took him a moment to realize that he wasn't going to die. He fervently thanked whatever gods had watched over him for this turn of fate. He breathed out heavily and sat up.
"Muargath? Yes I'll be fine. It didn't get you did it?"

Gashnum looked in the direction his friends voice came from, but he was hardly sure it was the right direction. He couldn't see anything in the dark.

"No, it didn't."  She found herself shaking her head in the darkness, not that he could see her.  "I hurt my wrist when I hit the ground though."  Muargath paused and listened to the fighting in the woods... it seemed to be dying down.  Dying down, she thought, good choice of words, there.

She took a deep breath and stood, still favoring her pained wrist.  "We should get the horse... and go!  If the other's are only holding them off... we might not have enough time!"

Dodging one sword to block another Sinen manages to kill two more demons. Sinen barely even notices the demon that takes off torwards camp and he spins to behead a third demon. Meanwhile Alia gets three more with her favored weapon, the spikes of ground. The sounds of more demons float to Sinen's ears from off behind Alia, but they aren't moving torwards them. In fact, Sinen notices all the demons seem to forget about him and Alia and rush straight for the camp. Spinning to follow the demons he yells...

"Alia, they're heading for camp."

Chasing after the horde of demons which are far less than they were when Sinen had found them he swears. There may be few remaining in this group but many more were heading from other spots in the woods...he could hear them. He glances down at his glowing sword.

Why couldn't they be orcs. This would have been so much easier.

Suddenly the demons burst through the treeline into the open and in plain view of the camp. off to the left and right a group of 10 demons each appear. The remainder of the group Sinen had chased counted at 5.

Damn, 25 demons still. How in the hell do we escape that?

Suddenly a demon near him stops staring straight at Muargath. Almost as suddenly it charges straight at her. Unknowing whether Muargath was even aware of the demon headed for her, Sinen draws a small dagger with his right hand and throws it, landing it in theback of the demon's head. About 7 demons turn suddenly on Sinen at once. He parries one flaming sword, and then another. Blocking blow after blow, he looks almost as if he's locked in some kind of crazy dance.

Alia moves rather quickly to working her magic again as she nears Muargath at those that were left at camp. With her same strange hand motions she erects a quite large barrier of Rock and Earth around them. She then looks to Gashnum and says, "We need to get everything ready to leave at once. A wall of dirt can only stand but so long, and it won't last long at all."

The scene of carnage at the campsite was complete. The corpse of a prize hunting hound lay near a ruined campfire, its skull bashed in. Its tounge lolled out in a sick parody of its recent death. The corpse of a massive demon lay with a spear punched completly through its chest. And two humans lay injured and afraid in the darkness....

****
Gashnum rose shakily to his feet, approached the dead demon and carefully gripped his spear's haft. Setting one foot on the beasts chest for leverage he pulled with all of his might. After a few moments of tugging the bloodied weapon came lose with a sickening sucking noise and a small fountain of blood. Gashnum wiped sweat from his brow and hurried over to Muargath, he was limping worse than before.

As Gashnum knelt at the woman's side the moon escaped from the confines of the nights clouds. It cast its bright glow, revealing the destruction to Gashnum's old eyes.  He grasped Muargath's forearm and pulled her to her feet. He noticed that she was cradling her left wrist. Gashnum pulled her to his side and threw his arm around her shoulder. The pain in his leg was returning, jumping about fighting a demon was not what his old body needed. Using his spear as a crutch in his other hand the two hobbled over to gather their backpacks.

"Muargath, we must flee before we are discovered again." Gashnum listened as the sounds of the battle in the trees grew closer to the ruined campsite. He cocked his head sadly
"I fear that our companions are bested, we must head for Elsreth, and seek solice there"

Gashnum looked to his right, and noticed a shape laying upon the bloodied ground. He squinted for a moment, and his eyes finaly picked out the shape of Duster. The man lowered his head reverently. He knelt down next to the corpse of the beast and laid a weathered hand on its side. What if that swing had hit him, or Muargath? He was deeply saddened by this loss, he would mourn the loss later, for now he had to worry about his own life. These demons were mighty beasts indeed.

He turned to beg Muargath to hurry when a crashing of branches sounded from the edge of the campsite and a demon barreled into the scene. Followed closely by Sinen. Once again the camp was filled with the sound of ringing swords and frantic yelling. He nodded once to Alia. Gashnum stood and grabbed Muargath's arm.

"Come! quickly! We must find the horse."

The moonlight finally came to reveal the destruction of the small camp along with the two, wounded survivors and the battered remains of Duster.  Gashnum helped Muargath to her feet, saying that all was lost and they must run.  She felt light in the head, like everything around her was flat and unreal…or hollow like a dream.  All sound muffled in her ears as she slowly turned to take in the devastation.  She needed to see it, to verify once again that it was the large, dead creature nearby that had caused it all.  She heard and felt her heartbeat, it was slow and steady… how odd she wasn’t frightened by it all.

She snapped to when she felt Gashnum tug on her arm again.  He was calling to her, "Come! Quickly! We must find the horse."  Flaming, snarling chaos surrounded them, engulfed them in a new wave.  And could it be… that Sinen and Alia were among them?  Amazing they were still alive!  Alia moved closer.  The ground rumbled and shook as the elven woman called the very earth up to shield them from the attacking monsters, forming a large, concave wall shot through with ragged stone.

Alia said, "We need to get everything ready to leave at once. A wall of dirt can only stand but so long, and it won't last long at all."  She turned her attention back to the wall, fighting to keep it strong.

Gashnum had let loose her arm.  Muargath looked out and away from the center of the fight.  She saw the packhorse over by the road and made a mad dash to get there.  All she could think was, We need this animal and we need it alive!

She did not see the large demon that broke away and bounded after her.  It caught her in two strides and knocked her down.  She felt her ribs snap.  Muargath couldn’t believe the unbearable weight that pinned her to the roadway.  The beast grasped her and roughly flipped her onto her back.  With a satisfied grunt, the demon plunged the tip of its sword into her shoulder, immobilizing her.

Muargath screamed as the flames seared her flesh and set her clothing on fire.  The pain was near intolerable and even as she heard herself screaming, she watched with morbid curiosity as the clawed hand plunged in slow motion toward her chest.  Still, she wasn’t afraid.

And the demon, relishing its prize, brought Muargath's still beating heart to its maw…

From the corner of Alia's eye she caught the demon ontop of Muargath, with a slight movement of her right wrist the demon's flesh springs into a bought of searing white flame. It flails around forgetting its victim and scowls at Alia as it's charred body collapses and dies. Alia returns her full attention to the earth wall.

Sinen manages to take out a couple of the demons attacking him, but mainly concerns himself with defending himself instead of offense.

*Dray swings his swords in an arc and cuts down hie 4th demon. He then falls to his knees breathing heavily. Energy drained after 4 demons and almost being killed. He looks around, but cannot see anything or anybody. He hears the clanging of weapons and then one pain filled scream that slices through the night time air.*

That came from back towards the camp!

*Dray is off in an instant racing towards the camp hoping he is not too late....*

Alas, Alia felt the first of the consequences for such a raw and reckless use of her magic. Her entire body feeling weak, her legs collapse from under her. As she falls to the ground every muscle in her body seems to contract and then she falls limp, unconcious. The Earth wall collapses back into the ground from which it came.

Sinen leaps over a flaming blade and then ducks a second. He parries a third then drives his sword into the stomache of a demon. He spins left hacking off another demon's head. As he drops to a crouch he sees the earth wall collapse and Alia lieing unconcious on the ground. Still with three demons attacking him what could he do...Worse still, several more were now moving torwards Gashnum. Sinen lunges from his crouch driving his sword through a demon's skull, ripping the sword from the head of the demon he dashes for Alia, the other two demons following close behind. Damn Alia, you should have known better than to push your magic like that. I don't what you did behind that stone wall but obviously it was too much.

*All Dray sees once he enters the camp area is demons and Sinen trying his best to defend a fallen Alia and Gashum who is covered in demon blood and obviously limping. The female human lay on the ground with a demon over her and Dray has a sickening feeling that she was the one he heard screaming and that it will be the final sound she ever makes. The demons not noticing Dray allows him to prepare. He takes precious seconds to gather his focus and prepare a spell. Dray utters a few words and raises his hands above his head and claps them together and instantly lightning bolts fall from the sky and strike a couple of demons. Dray then picks up his blades and lets out a war cry that echo's through the forest and ignites his blades with an errie glow.*

"Alright you foul beasts time to go back to the depths where you belong!"

*The first demon to reach Dray was one that had been struck by the lightning. It never had a chance to strike as Dray's blades move faster than the eye can follow and off rolls the demons right arm and head. The next demon falls with a huge X mark across its chest and 2 thurst wounds in the center of the X. Dray's swords continue to move too fast for any one to see where they are falling its as though the wind itself is pushing the swords along with how fast they are moving*

Sieg's foot planted on the grass just like before. The soft ground under him gave a little, and then he lifted his right foot to take the next step.  As it hit the ground, he heard the clash of steel, and the battle cries of a few people.  Someone was in trouble, and his help was needed.

He pushed off the ground with his right foot, throwing him into a quick burst of speed.  He pushed again with his left, then right, coming to a medium pace, about as fast as he himself could go.

He thought of his actions as he came upon the battlefield.  It lingered with the stench of decaying bodies of both human and non-human scent.  He looked and saw a few battle weary people that came from this realm, and about 15 that just looked hideouse.

He kept his pace, reaching into his pouch and pulling out 2 moon stars, one in each hand.  He came closer, about 20 yards from the battle field, and let both fly as he yelled out to the warriors, "Im here to help."

The 2 stars planted into the throats of 2 demons, one in each.  The slowly fell to the ground and revealed another humanly figure.  3 of his fellows lunged at Sieg, there tactics not to great, they had all lined up in a row, running for him, claws prepared to strike.

The first one swung high, Sieg moved over a little, to dodge the deamons body, and did a little dive roll under the deamons claws while drawing his blade and slicing the back of its leg.  The second quickly came low, and from the momentum of his last move, he pushed off, over the demon and did a flip, bringing the blade under him splitting the second ones skull.

He quickly came to a stop, and the 3rd demon rushed on.  The beast brought its hand down, aiming for Sieg's face.  Sieg stuck his blade straight up, and the beasts hand went right into the sharp end, slicing it in 2.   Sieg pulled his blade out and quickly stepped back, the beast grabbed its whole arm in pain and let out a horrific scream.  Sieg spun around and held his blade out.  The demons body fell off its legs, which then quickly fell over too.

Sieg saw out of the corner of his eye that the 1st demon started to get up, he pushed himself into the air and came down on top of the beast's shoulders, crunching it down and snapping its spine.  He flipped his sword up, so it quickly became under hand, and snatched it with both hands.  He thrust it downwards and it smashed right through the beasts skull.

Elende let a triunphant cry the demon surrendered to its wounds.
Legends say that the Eophyrhim's supernatural strength, agility and speed comes from a demon that lives inside them. If there is any truth in this tale, Elende would be the living proof of such a claim now.

He felt a primordial force arising inside him. Probably anger and fury or a desperate desire to survive or maybe hate. Whatever it was, now it was a time for action and not contemplation.

He tighten the grip on his blades and waited for the next demon. He didn't have to wait too long. This one was running at full speed towards him, it had no weapons save his vicious claws and teeth. Elende side stepped as the demon approached and easily avoided the beast.

The demon looked surprised to have missed its target by so far. It turned around to p[repare to charge again but Elende was within sight. The demon felt the half-drow's presence when he sword landed at the back of the demon's head. The infernal beast screaming in agony turbed around to look at its nemesis. Their eyes met and then the flash of Elende's second blade put an end to it.

The elf felt stronger with every kill, as if he was absorbing energy from every dead demon. Suddenly he noticed that the demon where moving away, but from where they returned....they where moving towards the camp! Without thinking Elende began to run towards the camp.
