Title: Neither Wind Nor Rain Nor Sleet Nor Snow (The Palace Weather)
Post by: Drea on April 10, 2010, 05:10:06 AM
Hello

I will start posting the Weather here so that we can all be on the same page when it comes to our descriptions.  I will be doing it randomly according to a matrix I have figured out, basing New Santhala on Rome, as I figure that is the type of climate zone the two would share.  I looked in the Dev forum, and took information from there in order to make my assumption.  All of which is pretty boring and technical.  Since there is no entry on New Santhala with a direct climate description, this should work well enough for our purposes, and should not be taken as a developers view.

Suffice to say, this should help us create a realistic atmosphere (no pun intended :P).  I will post the next days weather as well, so we can make observances, etc.  IE, if you know it will be raining tomorrow morning, you could observe clouds coming in that evening, etc.

I will take requests, so that if a particular weather phenomenon is needed, we can  discuss it.  No snowstorms in July, please. :)

I will post the Temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius.  Do not quote this in your post, it is here so that you can relate to the temperature and write accordingly (could see your breath, shivering, numb fingers, etc).  I will post the amount of rain that will fall and when during the day it falls.  I will also post the amount of wind, using terms from the Beaufort Scale, of which I have posted here the pertinent parts.  Therefore, if today has a "Fresh Breeze", you will know that "Branches of a moderate size move, Small trees begin to sway" and can write accordingly.

0  Calm                                                        Smoke rises vertically
1  Light air                                                   Wind motion visible in smoke
2  Light breeze                                             Wind felt on exposed skin, Leaves rustle
3  Gentle breeze                                           Leaves and smaller twigs in constant motion
4  Moderate breeze                                       Dust and loose paper raised, Small branches begin to move
5  Fresh breeze                                             Branches of a moderate size move, Small trees begin to sway
6  Strong breeze                                           Large branches in motion, Umbrella use becomes difficult
7  High wind, Moderate gale, Near gale             Whole trees in motion, Effort needed to walk against the wind
8  Gale, Fresh gale                                         Some twigs broken from trees., Progress on foot is seriously impeded
9  Strong gale                                               Some branches break off trees, and some small trees blow over, Damage to tents and canopies
10 Storm, Whole gale                                    Trees are broken off or uprooted, saplings bent and deformed, Poorly attached shingles and shingles in poor condition peel off roofs
11 Violent storm                                           Widespread damage to vegetation, Many roofing surfaces are damaged; tiles that have curled up and/or fractured due to age may break away
12 Hurricane-force                                         Very widespread damage to vegetation. Some windows may break; poorly constructed sheds and barns are damaged, Debris may be hurled about
