I purposely left the time out of Strata blank as well as how close we were to Thalambath.  I'll leave that for Dru to decide.

I placed someone awake at the end of my post, but again left this blank.  Whoever wishes to can post themselves reacting to Altario.

I'll be around more, and have missed Destiny immensely.

I hope this is ok. Since I am the first to past after Alt, I decided to be the one awake ^.^

Hi my good friends.

I hope this small message reaches you all. I have been dealing with severe depression and being enhanced by one of the medication's I was taking. My doctor's have taken me off that medication and I will be put on a different one, a pill called Gilenya. It has some serious side effects for some people, but they are rare, however since this is the newest drug out there, there is not that much information except from the clinical trials. I will be going through some tests, then if I pass I will be able to begin the new treatment.

I know that I left you suddenly and without an explanation and I apologize; depression is something akin to admitting you are an addict or something, at least it was to me. Now with help and being taken off the medication that my doctors said helped worsen the depression I am getting back to my old self again and hopefully will be back writing on the boards again, if you still want me that is?

Of course we still want you, Capher. As someone who's dealt with depression on and off for years, I know what you're going through on that front. It can really sap your energy. I hope you'll feel better soon.

By all means, move the story forwards. I like the conversation with Toama, and it certainly could  go on, but there'll always be a chance for talk in one way or another, whereas it's easy sometimes to have too little action.

Question: I'm unsure about what to do about the Shendar guide. Is this an NPC (and up for puppeting?), or is it Talas?

Toama, in my last IC post I made a few (hopefully mild) assumptions about how Lili's and Toama's conversation went on. Let me know if you want me to change anything!

Thank you Lili. I really enjoy reading all of your posts.  I have looked at the map and as much as I enlarge it I cannot figure out how long it would take for you guys and gals to get to Thalambath? Is it just days, or a week or longer? I tried reading the scale, but my eyesight has become worse and it is very difficult to read. The reason I ask is because the time it takes will determine what I write in my next post.  Also I have to figure out how fast it would take a ship to get to Thalambath from Strata.

Anyway if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.  Oh, and I have checked the dev side and I could not find out anywhere how tall the volcano is that Thalambath is built next to. In fact I could not find anything geographical about any of the mountains, I.E. Tallest peak of the mountain ranges, what it is named, or the lowest part of Caelereth (like Death Valley in the U.S.) The longest river, largest lake...etc. Perhaps I was just not looking in the right places, if any of you know where that information might be could you send it along to me either by pm or here in the OOC? I would appreciate that as well.

I don't have an answer to the question about travel times, but the Norong'Sorno volcano is 11,000 ped high, and is the highest mountain in Southern Sarvonia. See the entry on the Rahaz-Dath, section "Different Parts" (http://www.santharia.com/places/rahaz-dath.htm#Different Parts). There's a nice picture there, too ...

Thank you Lili for the information...Wow, Talia really put some work into that, and not just work but intelligent work, very precise and detailed. I applaud that entry.  I know there are probably hundreds of entries that are the same written by other people and I applaud them as well. I need to start reading more entries and the more I read the more I get lost, as some entires are being reworked and others are adding to existing ones....It is a difficult task to say the least.

Altario, is it ok if I puppet 1) the shendar guide and 2) everyone in the group (just a little bit)? And if I make some assumptions about the preparations we had taken before entering the desert?

Of course if I should happen to make anyone act against their character I would be happy to change anything at all, I just want to be clear that this is a possibility, before I type up a post just to have to change the whole thing ;)

Okay, I got the map of Sarvonia large enough to read the scale and accordingly it looks like one inch is 300. The question I have is 300 what? Are we talking strals? Then if that is the case the distance between Strata and Thalambath is approx 600 strals. How far can you guys travel in the desert in a day? Knowing that answer will help me with my next post. So if you could even guess, and give a number I would appreciate it.

I found out the distance, it means furlays, which is 6 leagues, or a day's ride. Therefore, you take approx 600 Furlays as the distance between Strata and Thalambath you have 600 days?? That does not seem right. Maybe the distance on the scale means leagues, which would put the distance between the two cities approx 3600 leagues. So you have to divide that number by 6 which gives you an answer of 600 leagues, divide that number by 6,(a day's travel) and you end up with 100 days?? Does that seem right to you all or am I all confused as usual?

I think you are overestimating the distance. Have a look at Talia's thread on the Dev Forum: Developers' Distances (http://www.santharia.com/dev/index.php/topic,12613.msg150662.html#msg150662). This gives the distance between Cape Strata and Thalambath as 625 strals (=625 km).

I had no idea that Talia had done that.  What a tremendous help that will be.  So now we just have to divide 625 by 6 which is 1.3 days travel. To me that does not seem very far?

I don't want to pre-empt what the story moderators or Talia may have determined already, but here are a few considerations that may help to work out an approximate time.

First of all, even though the distance between Cape Strata and Thalambath is 625 strals as the crow flies, the distance one actually needs to travel through a roadless desert is probably considerably longer: there are dunes that one needs to go up and down or circumvent, and  water holes are probably not conveniently lined up on the shortest route. Also, if we get in a sandstorm, we may of course lose our way, making the actual distance travelled even longer.So, say our group needs to cover an actual distance of some 700 strals maybe?

The time it takes to travel this distance will then depend on (1) how much distance you can cover on a good day; (2) how many days you cannot travel (eg because of sandstorms, exhaustion, someone's horse being injured and needing a rest, etc. etc.). We certainly can't assume that travel through a pathless desert will be as quick as travel on a trading road.

A wikipedia article on desert travel by camel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camel_train) suggests that a group could travel between 16-40 kilometers (=strals) on a good day.

If we assume that our group had relatively good conditions and could maybe cover 25 strals a day, this would translate into a travel time of about a month. (700 strals distance divided by 25 strals travelled per day = 28 days.)

(In contrast, if we wanted to be more optimistic and estimate the speed at 40 strals a day, this would translate into 17.5 days travel time.)

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid overly detailing the trip with actual days, etc.  A simple, several days, weeks, etc, I think should be good enough.  The "feel" is more important to me than the exactness of it.  This is a story, not a compendium entry, so I draw different levels of scrutiny.

BTW, excellent post, Toama.  Setting us up for an exciting scene. :)

I would like to join in with my Shendar-Guide-Pair, but not right now. You can keep your Fake-Shendar guide for a while ;) (How could you engage a man who does not know how to prepare for a sandstorm, you should have asked Ana'Mirl to look for one for you, now you got a Stratanian thug... beware!) I wonder, how he managed to get through the Yar Dangs!

I'm quite busy right now and in the near future (and need to play that Santhworld!), but I think I will join you in Thalambath, at least when you start your journey through the desert. Let's find a reason, why the best ever guide will lead your unimportant group... maybe you rescued her grandson from evil Thalambathians? Ok, enough for today. :)

Life has been fairly busy lately. Just recently finished reformatting my computer after getting a bad virus. I've been trying to get time to post a few times but every time I do I just get distracted by things.

I'll try and get something up eventually but my time is very spread thin right now.

Sorry to hear about the virus! I'm glad you're still around, Drustai. By the time I saw your OOC post, I'd already written my story post. I've not mentioned your character for now, but of course am happy to change things if that's the best way of bringing you back in.

I'm thinking Dru might have been off on her own for a bit, makes things easier than trying to squeeze her in. So once I catch up with the posts I can have her come back in.

Depends on how much time has passed ICly though. If it's the same day then that works, if it's been several then I'll think of something else.

It is definitely not the same day. They are all already in the sandy part of the desert with the volcano in sight. That makes at least three or more weeks later. Maybe you had to do some other things first and told the group, you would catch up with them later (being quicker than the cart.) Now you could rescue Alt, being the last person he wants to be rescued by.

If he'd be okay with that, that works for me. :)

Since it was a timejump, too, she could have been with the group for most of those three weeks, and just went separately for like, a day or two previous to this. Since with a desert, three weeks separate would be odd.

Of course I'm good with that. :)  If that is what you want, I''ll PM you the details.

No, I worked late Monday night, as we were shorthanded at work.  I texted Irid, but we weren't sure it would go through here, and as I didn't get a reply, I figured it didn't. :(

Unfortunately, it's unlikely that I'll find the time to post in the next eight days or so.

Anyway, at the moment I'd be stuck to know what to post next. Should our party wait for a reaction from inside the dome? Or should we try to enter (which would be Lili's natural next step, if she hears or sees nothing to detract her)? But if we entered, what would we see?

I considered writing a reaction in my post, but I wasn't sure if you had written your previous post with the intention of getting a reaction so I decided to hold off. If you'd like, I can write a reaction of them overhearing the conversation outside.

If you entered, you'd see what I described in my post describing the inside. The highwaymen inside would be doing some work of some sort, conversing, possibly preparing a meal or organizing supplies, etc.

Only Shendar can have ai'nuvics. there may be rare occasions where somebody outside from the tribe has such a lifetime partner, but that bandits seem not to have the patience to get one.

If it is a true Shendar dome, it would be made out of the skin of the Rahaz-Estar and quite lightweight , thin and a bit shiny. I guess it is none ;).

I need to revamp all my old stuff!

Also, I wonder how you would like to play the timeline. From the way we told the story, I would guess that Toama, Grallen and Lili would have arrived at the dome at least a couple of hours after the bandits. If that was so, Dru's last post would describe a moment in time considerably earlier than the three women's arrival. Do you want us non-mods to wait with posting to allow you to catch up, or shall we bend spacetime a bit for the sake of moving on with the story?

I think the problem was that at work I am writing dry assembly manuals for our production department.  It has sapped my creativity somewhat, I think.

Argh, sorry Irid, it’s not a great post is it? basically Grallen is listening at the tent, trying to work out if anyone’s in there – she thinks she can hear something. But can’t tell how many. I puppeted Toama a bit in that she had the idea of scraping away some of the sand at the base of the tent so they could peek in – if Lili has a chance of seeing in from the back, she thought they could maybe do the same here. Grallen stands guard over her while she digs, and I left it there.
If that’s still unclear just yell, I’m really not very impressed by that post, I think I wrote  it in a rush.

I am back!!! To answer some of your questions; yes, the wedding was beautiful, I sang, but started crying, yet still finished the song, San Diego, California was interesting place to visit. My son and his bride are still on their honeymoon. I have to unpack and do laundry...will post as soon as possible.

I hope you're busy with interesting stuff, rather than snowed under with work and obligations (like so many people are, unfortunately).

Has the story stalled? I cannot keep Damien on the ship forever, well perhaps I could. ;)  though I would rather not.  You know come to think of it, since Damien would arrive in Thalambath sooner over water than over land, perhaps I should think of a post and go along until we meet somehow.

I do not know what or even where this side plot all fits in in the overall scheme of things, but if these bad guys are somehow connected with the leader of the gang that is pulling all of the strings in the underground, perhaps a post or two or three or whatever, would catch this leader's attention and he would go after Damien, especially if he starts asking around about Alt's brother or his daughter. However if that is not how the admin's of this story want it that way, then I will just stay on ship.  Or at the very least post that I am in Thalambath and wondering when and where the rest of you are?

Capher, feel free to have a run in with a group of guys working for the brigands that our group is confronting. Another cell on the ship you're on, perhaps. No actual Thalam with them, just some hired thugs. Except don't treat them as common thugs, crime in Thalambath is far more subtle... think manipulation and con artistry rather than tough-guy stick-ups with swords. Trying to weasel your money out of you with a silver tongue, and such.

I am not sure if they will have any link to the Altario's brother plot at this point, but you having a simple run-in with them on the ship will allow us to better weave Damien's journey with ours once we all reach the city.


@Lili: Aside from having had BF over, have also been doing a lot of work and making moving preparations (going to be moving in with BF in Sweden within a year (we hope)). So things have just been hectic.

My sister lives in Sweden, so I've been going there quite regularly in recent years. Not a bad place to move to at all, I'd say! Beautiful lakes, a society with more social equality than most others (and therefore less crime and more solidarity among people), and excellent ice cream!

Its brewing in my head as we speak.  Hopefully will get it down on site today.  Have to go out though.  Might be flying cross country this week and might not have net access for a week or so.  Company needs me to clean up a mess in another one of its facilities.  Hopefully will only be a week, and not longer.  Though, nothing has been confirmed yet.  If I need to purge staff and not simply retrain, it could take longer.  If my laptop, which got damaged, is working, I might be okay.  But not sure yet.

You'd be wrong. He went into the storage room, which is where all of our -stuff- is being kept (we're in the 'prison' room). The storage room is the room that Grallen is currently peaking in.

Hey, nice to see some postiness in Destiny!

I thought I'd let you all know that I've got a very busy four weeks ahead of me. I found a new job that I've already started while still serving my notice period on the old one, and I've also signed up for evening classes in mathematics, so it's all a bit frantic at the moment. Therefore, please don't wait for me with posting. I'll continue to follow the story, though, and will try to come up with a post here and there, particularly if and when a battle ensues.  :grin:

Well, here I am, four weeks on, with my old job completed and the prospect of little windows of Santharia time ahead...

I don't know what the moderators have planned, of course, but I wonder whether a bit of IC action (instead of conversation) might help to revive interest in Destiny? I know a bird who would happily make a bit of inconvenient noise to alert a certain group of bandits to unexpected presences outside their tent?

I'm here too! Ready for some action, whether from a too loud bird or stealing back some items - either way, the bandits will soon know we're there, seeing as they have Altario's sword ;)

I'm thinking we have to.  Some kind of action to get our stuff back.  I'm sure Dru has some idea of how she wants to conduct this.  Dru?  If she has a stealth plan I don't want to ruin it yet.

If not, yeah, that little chicken mcnugget could just blow our cover.

well I wanted to wait and give Drustai a chance to voice her irritation to being bossed around by an orc, but I can make a quick post to keep things rolling if people would rather?

Up to the mods, I think, because even if you post, Toama still won't have too much to do except stand guard, which will only be exciting if Lili's bird decides she's bored.

Posted as well. Grallen, assuming you listen to Dru and start looking through storage, when you go through the things you'll notice that Altario's sword is missing from the stock. Not much else from Dru/Altario is there I think, though there is plenty of fine goods there that could always be pilfered. <.<

Yes, that's exactly the reason I posted about looking towards the door where the thieves were going to come out - so that I can get antsy about it when they don't. You might not believe it, but I'd actually written a sentence along the lines of how suspicious it would be if they didn't, and then deleted it because that might be exactly what was going to happen :P

I would have loled if he had done this. Although Dru had actually dropped to her back and was pushing with her legs, but I ignore the discrepancy because the imagery is entertaining.

Sorry for delay, last few weeks have been really busy for me. Brother graduating and my interview with Swedish consulate-general for my move, among some other things.

We start after Thalambath, with an agreement of what happened inside.  For example, we entered Thalambath without incident, we traded our goods hidden in the wagon for information on Nayriss, that reveals that Denrykmar headed north from Thalambath.  Now we are a week out of Thalambath looking for Rahmat.

This is just a top of my head idea.  Will need to put more thought into a true posting, with everyone's input.

Hey Alt, I PM you some ideas and problems, so that there are some surprises possible for the rest of the group. For now I would propose, that you helped Ja'Far, the grandson of my my NPC Shendar guide out of some trouble in Thalambath (not played out). He tells you of his grandmother, who is right now east of Thalambath, at the place with the trees at the edge of the saltpan (darn, I forgot the name of this oasis). As you have helped him out of trouble, she is forced to lead you, otherwise she probably would not  be in the mood to do it... I see interesting dialogues coming..

I'll post a description of the two soon. I first thought I do a proper CD, but maybe it is even better to just make them NPCs, so you or another member of the group can write them also, once you got how they are ticking.  I'll look for some nice pics..

 :D Nope, I've never given up on this, though at the moment it is only Toama and Alt active.  We were going to get to a community before placing an ad for new players rather than have a bunch of new players pop up in the middle of the desert.

Altario, I'm afraid I'm not jesting. My husband turns.. oh, well, there is quite a festivity end of May, and before that our house has to get (after 14 years) in a more finished state, and our garden too (somebody thought it was  not inhabited because of the state of the space in front of our house..) and then we have a wedding, in two parts. My son will marry end of July and half the Japanese relatives (well 7) will come too, then in September we will go to Japan to attend the Japanese side, so... and more time consuming things like looking for a room for my youngest who starts studying.. I'm busy, always terribly busy... and often feel like the poor guy here  :fish:

In that case I would like to fast forward to where we're out of the desert, because despite my character's origin, I don't know all that much about travelling through the desert (and surviving).

Well, I'd like to play out one more scene that I had planned from the beginning.  Just a bit of selfishness on my part, then yup, we can get rescued and make our way out of there.

Anyway, I'll try to finish my post this evening at home, if you don't like my Sand Sister trick just let me know and I will change my post, just thought it might be a nice thing for a desert-dwelling people to have :)
