Title: Chapter One: "The Old Wizard"
Post by: Chronusian on March 15, 2004, 09:18:22 PM
Glad to be going home for a while...

Chronusian, walks swiftly down the splendid streets of the city of Ximax. He has decided to take a break from his schoolwork at the Acadamy, and visit his father.

Terranus Delmian lives in the upper apartment of an old bookshop, which he runs. This is all he has to support Chronusian, with his erxpensive school fees. Chronusian, walks up to the door of the shop.

That's strange, closed on a great a day as this.

He opened the door. No candles were lit, and the place was a mess. "We've been robbed!" , he said unknowingly aloud. He then heard shuffling in the corner.

"Son, is that you?" . Terranus lies in the corner, beaten and broken. "Come here." His voice seems as if it is about to fail.

"Father, what has passed here? What is all this?"

Terranus looks at chronusian gravely.
"I have no time to explain. You must leave for Horth at once."
Chronus is startled by this announcement.

"Horth? Why father?"
Terranus slowly pulled himself up into a chair.
"I want you to retrieve what was stolen from me. Chronus, do you remember the white spellbook that I kept on a pedestal when you were young? That is more important than it seems. There is a great magic involved in it, and it must be retrieved."

Chronus looked at his father with dismay.
"I suppose I can take off of school for a few days. I'll just take a caravan."

"NO!" Terranus yells. "You must walk, you do not want to draw attention to yourself. When you arrive at Horth, find a theif named Guideon, and give him this letter. He will help you. Now Chronus, you must not travel alone." Terranus coughs. "Get to Horth quickly." Terranus passes out.

He is tired. I dont know whats going on but I'd better be gone before he wakes...

Chronusian gathers his gear, and walks into the city to search for a travelling companion.

“YOU DIRTY SCOUNDRAL YOU’RE TRYING TO CHEAT ME!” Slye screamed pushing up from her chair and placing her hands on her hips

“My Lady…I was doing No such thing” the Man on the other side of the table stated… nervously glancing around the room and licking his lips… it reminded Slye of a snake she had seen on her travels…long and green, it had slithered across her path one eve tasting the air with its tongue….She shook her head, getting her mind back to the subject at hand…She was not about to loose Any of her coin to this Snake of a man, in this Over Crowded Musky Bar….She put her hands on the table and leaned closer

YOU MUST THINK ME A FOOL SIR”She said her Light Brown eyes narrowing her voice never dropping

“No of course Not….I ….I Just think your mistaken and upset that you lost” he stood up and began to collect the coins on the table “Now.... so not to make a Scene..I’ll just pack up my Winni….” Slye smacked his hand as he tried to pick up her coins

“Let me See you’re Dice….” She said as nicely as she could muster

“Of Course of Course….As long as after your done examining them....I can take my winnings and Leave?...” Slye eyed him a moment before agreeing….the man placed the two dice into her hand….she rolled them around in her fingers feeling the weight and putting them up to her eyes examining the sides….They seemed…. Well….like perfectly normal dice…The man smiled his toothless grin, grabbed the dice from her hands and started picking up her coins

Slye just couldn’t understand….She was doing so Well…Had won almost twice of what she started with…. and then out of No where….one small swoop he had taken it all…Down to the last Cent…This would teach her to bet when she was on a budget….A tight budget at that…

Just when she was about to slump back into her chair and admit defeat…something she rarely ever did…their was a shift in the over crowded bar…. a Barmaid knocked into the Snake Man collecting his Winnings …and another set of dice fell out from the Folds of his sleeve…It took only a moment for Slye to register what this meant…

<span style="font-size:medium;">“HEY!”</span> She shouted….The man Just Grinned, grabbed as much of the coin off the table as he could and decked….weaving around people faster than She thought Possible in this stuffed bar....She started out after him But stopped….Her height allowed her to see over the tops of heads… he was already at the door… he’d be long gone by the time she made it there …She looked down at the table and picked up the remaining coins….a San or two short of what she started with…Sighing Slye raised her Hand to get the Waitresses attention…

“Might as well spend it on a good Beer…” She said to herself before adding “What in the Gods Name am I doing in Ximax City?..”

Post by: Hieronimus Kupfdrubus on March 20, 2004, 09:46:22 AM
Injèrá is setting, when a grey little horse is willingly putting one hoof before  the other. An old man, dressed in a simple grey cloak  leads it up the road, seemingly as tired as his animal. Obviously he is searching for something. Suddenly his face lightens up, he pads his horse on the head and tells it:

“ Hey old friend, we will try out this tavern with this exceptional name!‘The old wizard‘ That fits for us, though normally I don‘t see me as a wizard! “

He fixes the reigns of his horse at a ring fixed in the walls, pads it a last time on its back.

“ I will be back as soon as I have found accommodation for us two, and don‘t worry, nobody will come and steal such a pretty horse as you are. “

While still talking to his horse, he hears quite some shouting coming out of  the windows, which are set too high in the wall to allow to have a look inside.

“ YOU MUST THINK ME A FOOL SIR “he hears a woman shout, followed by an “HEY“

Only a moment passes and a man runs out of the tavern, taking the stairs leading to the entrance with one jump.

Seems, not all people in there are honourable. But by Grothar, you have to take the weather as it comes!

With these thoughts Hieronimus Kupfdrubus takes the stairs up to the tavern a bit slower as the last customer who left it. The door is still open.

The tavern is full of people, a wonder that there is no fight after the shouts he has heard a moment ago.He looks around if he could find the upset woman, but obviously she has calmed down already.

What catches his attention however is a TALL lady. Hieronimus has wandered around quite a bit, up and down nearly the whole length of Santharia and has not met a woman this tall. He would never address an unknown femal of his own accord, being a little shy in this respect, despite his age, but on the other side, he is curious. She waves for the waitress, standing at her table. And does she not look quite a bit heated and upset? Hieronimus chooses a table next to hers, but before taking a seat, he looks UP to her, examine her quite directly, not being aware, that this might be more intruding as if he had addressed her.

Chronusian slowly walked down the lane, trying to figure out what just happened.
Why has this happened to me?
He knew more than anything that his father was in great distress, but couldn't figure out why that book was so important. He decided that he should just do what he was told. He was a bit upset that he would have to leave school, but he knew his dad would work all of that out.

He walked warily into a well known bar 'The Old Wizard'. He knew that was the spot for travellers who came into Ximax. As he approached the door, he heard a loud yell, and a short little man ran out with a fistful of coins. Chronusian didn't take long to figure out what was wrong. He ran after the little man, with amazing speed and tripped him with his staff.

"Stealing isn't very nice now is it?" Chronusian pressed the tip of his staff hard on the man's back. He also checked to see if he was armed. He spied a simple dagger hanging at the bandits belt, and realized he didn't have one. "I'll be returning these to the person they belong to, and turn you into the authorities." He smiled a vey mischevious smile, which was not very much like him. "Unless of course you  let me have this dainty of a dagger you have here. I'd say thats a fair trade." The man , stilled pinned to the ground mumbled,"Sure, take it just get offa me!" Chronusian let the man go and backed away slowly, to be sure that he didn't have a trick up his sleeve. He then entered the bar. Somewhere near the entrance was a very tall woman, and an old man, standing there. The woman looked quite angry, and Chronus suspected that she was the one who shouted.
"Excuse me maam" he said politely, "but I believe these coins were taken from you."

EzCode Parsing Error: size=3]Slye smiled as the Barmaid handed her a big mug of Dwarven Beer…She never usually liked the taste of the strong drink…But today she needed it ... She tossed the girl a coin and brought the mug up to her slightly plumped lips and proceeded to drain the tanker into her mouth…not very lady like but hey… Slye really wasn’t too much of a lady….About midway threw however She noticed she was being stared at…not your discrete stare mind you….But more like Gawking ….She slowly brought down her mug and turned her head…her eyebrow raising

What in the world is this old man staring at? She thought to herself looking at the shorter man by her side….perhaps if she were younger or had just started her traveling…his gawking would have angered her... tempted her to say something that no “Real Lady” should even think about…But these past 5 year’s the looks she got from men and women alike became part of an every day thing…it was mostly her height, being a lot taller than your average female…but other things as well… like her slender waist, long legs and of course her Ample…….well you know… got their fair share of looks aswell….

She was about to comment to the gentleman, ask him if he needed something when she was stopped

EzCode Parsing Error: color=orange]"Excuse me maam" he said politely, "but I believe these coins were taken from
Slyes mouth dropped open as she stared at the younger man holding out his hand in front of her My Money! ...” She almost screamed...

Slye couldn’t believe it…she never thought she’d see these coins again …Why would anyone go out of their way to stop a thief from stealing someone else’s money…and then, return it to the person they stole it from? She took the coins out of his hands…

“Thank you…But…why did you…I Don’t …” She couldn’t even get the words out hoping her quizzical looked would be question enough…she stared at the man almost the same as the old man at the table by her side stared at her…He was shorter than her but not by much and had straight black hair, fairly attractive to the eyes…she shook her head stopping her mind from wandering

“Please…Please…Sit down….Let me Buy you a Drink…. I have the coin now...” She smiled, motioning to the chair by her side “I don’t know how to thank you…This is really something I never expected …Uh…My names Slye...” She said sticking out her hand in greeting… ” Um....What would you like to drink?”[/font]

Zdoth walked toward the crowded tavern ‘The Old Wizard’, while staring in awe at all of the gorgeous buildings.  He had just arrived in this wondrous city, and he had been busing him self with gawking at of the slanted domed buildings, and the tall, sharply pointed eleven towers.  He was staring at one beautiful building, with his jaw hanging loosely, when he heard some one yell, “YOU MUST THINK ME A FOOL SIR,” followed by the same voice shouting “HEY!”  He spun around on his heels, and saw a man run out of the building; he followed him with his eyes and watched as a young man subdued the thief.  He started to walk towards the tavern, intent on a nice glass of juice, when he tripped over his feet and landed with a loud “OOF.”  Quickly hopping up, he brushed himself off, grabbed up the few arrows that spilled out of his quiver, picked up his bow, and walked to the tavern.

He slowly opened the door, and kept his head low, as he searched for a table.  The tavern was packed.  After a little bit of searching, he had given up all hope of finding a table.  Just as he was leaving, his eyes spotted a table with only one person sitting at it.  Maybe this old man wont mind if I sit here, Zdoth thought, as he made his way through the thick mass of people to the old man, who was staring at a very tall woman next to him, who, ironically, was chatting with the same young man who had subdued the thief.

What a coincidence he thought as he gently tapped the old man on the shoulder and asked in a quiet voice, “Excuse me good sir, but would you mind if I sit down?”

“Excuse me good sir, but would you mind if I sit down?“

It is as if Hieronimus awakes from a dream. He has stared at this tall woman, but somehow after a time he hasn‘t seen her, but another special woman she reminds him of  ...a Baveras Aid he met long ago on his wanderings...., but suddenly he is called back to the present. Still disorientated, all he is able to say in the moment is:

“What?“

He sees quite a small man with not a single hair on his head, pitch-black eyes and a scar running over his face and a crooked nose.

After staring now for a second or two at this man, he comes back to reality again :

“Of course you can sit on this table, please do so, I like to have company.“
He waves with his hands to invite the strange looking newcomer to sit down.

“But excuse me for a moment, I think I was impolite to this nice lady here, I have to apologise.“

Hieronimus gets up again and turns to the tall lady, who has only eyes for the rescuer of her money.

“Ermm, my lady, if I may interrupt you. I just realised, that I was very impolite staring at you. But you reminded me of somebody....somebody I knew long ago, please forgive an old man his peculiarities. And let me honour this brave young man, I saw the thief leaving the tavern as well, but didn‘t think of going after him. May I invite you two for a drink? Ahh, maybe I should introduce me first: I‘m Hieronimus Kupfdrubus.“

He invites the two to sit at his table.

“I hope you don‘t mind!“
he says to the newcomer who has asked to sit at his table and then adds:

“I like to invite you as well for a drink, it is a good day for me today, this lady brought good memories back!“

Slye was waiting for the Young Man to introduce his self and shake her hand when….

She brought her arm down as the old man Motioned for them to take a seat at his table....She slowly registered what he had said… tilting her head to the side as an owl would do…He was offering to buy them a Drink…Saving Slye Further coin Usage….Which to be honest, she was very grateful….Without finding a job, Slye had only enough money to last her about another week, two if she didn’t splurge for a room every night …and that’s if she budgeted well…

Of course, all her money Problems would be solved if she just returned home…The Yunkia family being fairly wealthy, involved in both Trade and Military…But Slye hadn’t been home in the Past 5 years…and she refused to do so now… Even if she had to result to begging in the streets… She smiled and nodded to the older man before taking a seat at his table…looking up as he spoke to a younger fellow by his side, a man with a very nice scar down his face…guessing about how he got it

“I like to invite you as well for a drink, it is a good day for me today, this lady brought good memories back!“ He told the gentlemen

This made Slye Smile even Wider “I Try to Do What I can…” She said to Both Men before Winking “Well Met Hieronimus Kupfdrubus…The Gods Must Favor Me Today…For not only do I have a Hero in my midst” Glancing at the Young Black haired man who had yet to gave her a name    “…..But I have a gentlemen who buys me a drink as well…. I am Slye Yunkia…and it is a pleasure ….”

Noticing that she was the only one sitting at the table she played with a wild wisp of hair behind her ear, a habit she had yet to break since childhood…. “Now Will I ever Know the Name of My Hero…and you?” She said to the Man by Hieronimus’s Side

“Now Will I ever Know the Name of My Hero?"

Her hero… Those words rang a bell in his head. How long has it been… no, he didn’t want the memories to return of that one he loved…

However long he reminisced, he blotted out all speech after a while, he finally was able to answer.

“Chronusian Delmian” he said, addressing Slye. He sat down at the table and addressed the Scarfaced man, sitting next to Hieronimus: The Grey One (as Chronus called him). That is quite a justifiable name too. Everything about the man was grey, his clothes, his hair, and even his eyes were some shade of grey.

He immediately noticed that his eyes were all black, and it scared the wits out of him. Somehow, though, Chronusian felt he was in great company. He turned to Hieronimus.

“I’m leaving for Horth tonight, so I’m glad this came to pass. Now how about that drink sir? A nice, hot mug of kilaff would be a good way to start a journey. What do you say?”
He turned to Slye,

“Well met lady Slye”.

Chronus turned silently toward the unnamed man... He said nothing, but made a slight gesture with his lips, suggesting that he introduce himself.

"I’m leaving for Horth tonight, so I’m glad this came to pass.  Now how about that drink sir?  A nice, hot mug of kilaff would be a good way to start a journey.  What do you say?”

“The name is Zdoth.  Zdoth Natterath.” He said while setting his bow on the table, his eyes darted about the three before turning to Hieronimus. “And thank you for your kind offer, but I will pay for my own drink if you don’t mind.”

At that, Zdoth bent over under the table and began to look through his backpack for the coins he knew he had hidden in the bottom.  After a little bit of digging, he found a hand full of coppers.  He pulled them out, and began to sit up again when he hit his head on the table edge with a loud thump, which caused him to drop his coins.  They went sprawling across the crowed room.  Mumbling a curse under his breath, Zdoth crawled about recovering two of his coppers.  With a sigh he ran his hand over his baldhead, looked at Hieronimus, and mumbled, “Your offer for a drink still up?”

He turned to the tall women and studied her, she reminded him of his mother, only much taller.  For a moment, he was swept back in time.  He relived one of the horrors of his past.  His began to breathe harder, he looked sick.  He a scream rang out in the tavern, but one only heard by his ears, the scream shook him out of his trance, and he turned his eyes to Chronusian.  He looked him up and down, and nodded his head in a silent approval.

“Horth?  Where is that?” he said simply, being unfamiliar with this continent, and eager to explore it.

I am out of money, He thought to himself, this man might need help perhaps we could help each other.

“ Of course my offer is standing, Sir!  What would you like to have? A dwarven ale or a k‘laff like this young man here - sorry, what was your name again, Chrusonian? My memory falls a bit short sometimes.
I will have a Ximaxian Rainbow when we are in the town where it originated. But you have to have a good stomach for it, I would not recommend it for ladies either....it needs a man to drink such a cocktail ...!“

Hiero looks at Slye, wondering what she might answer to this little affront. But before waiting for a reaction, he waves for the barmaid.

“ And you want to leave for Horth this night? Hieronimus asks the young man. “Why so hastily? There are about 500 strals till Horth, and though on the first days ride there will be no dangers, I would not recommend to start at night - it will rain heavily on top and you will need a shelter anyway. Leave in the early morning and I might even join you! “ he says with a hidden smile, this young eager fellow seemed to be a nice guy (running after a thief without knowing what was the matter at all!). “But this night I need some rest and like to enjoy a nice evening in company , a good wine and an even better meal!“

“Well met Chronusian....” She said to her Supposed Hero.... “Well met Zdoth” She glanced at the Man with the Scar going down his face...She had to stifle a laugh when he reached down into his bag and banged his head on the table coming back up...She felt sorry for him when he lost his coins..She could almost guarantee no one would be coming to return them as Chronusian had done for her...She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and turned back to the converstation....

I will have a Ximaxian Rainbow when we are in the town where it originated. But you have to have a good stomach for it, I would not recommend it for ladies either....it needs a man to drink such a cocktail ...!“

Slyes eyebrow raised at that remark, and she forced herself to smile at the older man ...it wasn’t a convincing smile... but it was a heck of a lot nicer than what she really wanted to do...She assumed since he was an older gentleman that he was just speaking on how it must have been years ago....she’d have to school him on how times have changed.....as he turned his attention to Chronusian....She looked at the barmaid who came by to take their drink order and smiled at the pudgy lady

“Ill take an Ximaxian Rainbow Please....”She said loud enough for everyone to hear and couldn’t help but look at the older man...... the corners of her mouth turned into a smirk....

“You Know I have to agree with you Hieronimus...When it comes to that Drink....a Lady really couldn’t handle it.....But luckily enough for us I don’t see a lady here.....Only a Woman...And a Woman such as I ... Can Handle anything”     Or at least that’s what she hoped .....she had never had the drink before...Actually to be honest she had ever even heard of it...All she could do is pray that her mouth didnt get her into trouble again.....

“Chronusian it seems that you have everyone Interested in your Journey to Horth...” Slye said leaning back into her seat “ If I may ask....what is your reason for going there?”

“I’ll take a Tulimon Grape Juice please.”  Zdoth quietly said, just barely audible over the roar of the Tavern.

He turned back to Hieronimus and, with a slight smile on his face, said, “I thank you for your kindness good sir.  I feel that I am in your debt…”  With out waiting for a reply of any sort, he reached into his backpack and pulled out an odd-looking fruit, and tossed it to Hieronimus, “Please take this as a payment for the drink, it is fruit of the morta’ii.”

With that, Zdoth turned his attention to Slye, who was saying something about the Ximaxian Rainbow, which apparently was a drink.  He thought for a moment about quelling his curiosity and simply waiting to hear Chronusian’s story, but his ample curiosity got the best of him.

“What is this Ximaxian Rainbow?  I am afraid I do not know what it is…”  He asked, the question directed towards anyone who could give him an answer.

Zdoth sat back in his chair, waiting for his drink, and enjoying good company, something he was beginning to get used to since he left his homeland.  He turned his attention to Chronusian, awaiting his story of why he was journeying to Horth, and what exactly this Horth place was.

“Well…”
Chronusian felt a bit unsure about telling them why he had so urgently going to Horth. He had been hoping he could slip away from them, but it seemed as if he had become the main attraction.

“I’m not really sure why, I’m going, besides the fact that my father told me to deliver a message.”

He realized that what he just said made no sense to them, and explained what happened when he got home.

“Kinda weird isn’t it? I was trying to rush, but I can’t go alone without caravan because my survival skills stink. I could rent a horse, but I’ve never ridden. My dad once told me that I would be a good rider, but I was always too much into my studies to care.”

He looked around at everyone watching him, listening to his mysterious story.

“Look, I don’t know how important this ordeal really is, but it’s important enough for me”.
Chronus was actually relieved now that he told them. He had secretly hoped that one of them would accompany him, but that was too much too ask. He had just met these people, and didn’t know them very well. He trusted them though. He had no idea why; he just did. Chronus, sipped on his kilaff and shook his head, not knowing what to say or do. The he felt a tap on his shoulder.

“You Daleman?”

This guy was huge. He stood a little taller than Slye, and his limbs were about as thick as a horse’s. He was clothed in all black, and hooded. The only skin you could see on him was around the eyes. Upon his right sleeve was an emblem that looked like a large skull with a key protruding from the mouth. Chronusian couldn’t really tell for all the muscles on this guy. After Chronus didn’t answer, the man spoke again.

“You Kronis Delman? Yes you are, you have staff. Give me blue stone. No magic tricks. I don’t want fight. Boss will be unhappy.”

Chronusian finally realized that this guy was just pronouncing his name wrong. But he asked for a blue stone. The only blue stones Chronus had were a few sapphires in his pouch and the blue stone which tipped his staff. He turned to look at his staff, and the stone wasn’t there, it had a habit of randomly growing invisible. Chronus assumed it was his magic stone he wanted.  Why? He decided to ponder that later, and give the man what he asked for; a blue stone. He reached in his pouch and pulled out the largest sapphire in there. This guy didn’t seem too bright. Maybe he could fool him…

“Boss will be happy you don’t fight. Nice blue stone give Kromlech big treasure. Make boss proud of Kromlech.”

The large man, Kromlech, walked slowly out of the bar. Chronus turned around to the others.

“He was after this” Chronus said, pointing to the stone, that appeared just as Kromlech turned around.

“I don’t know why though. I’m guessing he was the reason my dad wanted me to leave so quickly. I think I’d better go now. This is getting weird”

Chronus stood up and pushed his chair to the table.

“ Young man, don‘t be so silly to rush away without being prepared. Sit down for another five minutes, this boulder of man will not come back too soon. I don‘t understand in the first place, why you gave him this sapphire  - in a tavern full of people? That will encourage him and his master to get even more impertinent! But well, done is done. Let‘s make the best out if it.“

Hieronimus frowns, why have these young ones to rush along without thought? Hasn‘t  he just told Chronus, that travelling this night will be nearly impossible? Absently turning the foreign fruit he got around in his hands, he looks up at the standing Chronusian, piercing him with his sharp grey eyes.

“ First, hasn‘t your father told you not to go unaccompanied? And he said you have to reach Horth quickly, not to storm out in the night which will drown you!  So what do you try to achieve by leaving Ximax now. Do you want to ask people at the gate to wander with you? I doubt you will find too many leaving now with a stormy night breaking in.

The old man sighs, hoping he is convincing enough.

“ It might be a good idea not to stay in the tavern the next three hours. So go and buy yourself some other clothes so that not everybody will recognise you at once. I will accompany you to Horth if you wish so, I‘m fairly familiar with this road - but not before tomorrow at sunrise. Till then the weather will be fine and I have the opportunity to see this lady - he looks with a grin to Slye
“ ah sorry - this woman!  - drink a Ximaxian Rainbow. And I want to talk with Zdoth - this fruit is not growing in Santharia.
I propose you to come later back and share my room, so you are not registered and we leave in the early morning. What about this?“

An old man walked into the The Old Wizard, and found himself a seat at a table in the crowed room.He then produced several stones,a metal plate, and a piece of flint. With this,he set the stones on the plate and began to light them on fire. They gave off a sweet aroma which relaxed the man.He had been walking for quite some time now,and was glad he could stop, and have a drink.

Slye Listened to Chronusian’s story with interest….and couldn’t help the pang of jealousy that went
through her body….There was a point in time when she would have died for her father…..a time when His approval meant the world and she Meant The world to Him……

That all changed the moment he got married to a women only 5 years older than she…A Women who took her father away ….She had gotten used to ignoring the pain of abandonment  and loneliness she felt.. so it took only a moment for the Jealous feeling to be set aside

Her attention being brought back…She looked up at the Big Hulky Man that demanded a blue stone from Chronusian….…She thanked the Goddess Eyasha that the Stupid  Man was contempt with what Chronusian handed him and left the the Tavern....

“Hieronimus has a point Chronusian ....Tonight really isn’t the best time to Leave ...Specially when you don’t even have your traveling necessities in order....Like The Best roads to take this time of year....Or Even a traveling party, your father did say not to travel alone....” Slye looked up at Chron “Your best bet would be to leave in the morning...”

The Barmaid came by with Everyone’s Drinks...She placed a colorful cocktail in Front of her and Hieronimus and a fruity smelling Juice in front of Zdoth ...She stalled drinking the Liquid and making a fool of herself

....a Fragrant smell hit her nose......She looked around for the location of the aroma and noticed an Older man with a strange hat.... burning...what looked to be Stones....She had never seen anything like that before...She realized she wasn’t the only one looking at the man...Several of the Inns patrons were Staring as well...

Slyes interest were more on the Rocks than the Man himself...What was that Smell....and where ever did he get something like that....She made a mental note to ask the gentleman Before he Left for the Evening.....She turned her attention back to her immediate Company...Purposely ignoring the drink that sat under her nose
“So what are you going to do Chronusian....You Still going to Travel this Night” She asked her eyebrow rising

Zdoth listened to Chronusian’s tale intently, biting back on memories of his own father, memories of pain, sorrow and dishonor.  He was brought back to his senses by a hulking figure that had some interest in Chronusian.  Zdoth, with one hand on an arrow, slowly moved his other to his bow; no one seemed to notice this.  He let out a small sigh of relief when Chronusian handed him something, and the ogre man left, he let go of the arrow.

“Hieronimus has a point Chronusian ....Tonight really isn’t the best time to Leave ...Specially when you don’t even have your traveling necessities in order....Like The Best roads to take this time of year....Or Even a traveling party, your father did say not to travel alone....Your best bet would be to leave in the morning...”

Zdoth, who came from a nomadic heritage, saw no reason to plan for a trip, though he did agree on the traveling party, “One should never travel alone,” Zdoth thought out loud, “Especially when you have people like that after you.  Nor is it wise to leave in the dead of night, it will draw attention to you.  If you will wait until morning, I will gladly accompany you to this Horth city.”

Enough said, Zdoth turned to Hieronimus, just when the barmaid arrived with his juice.  He slowly drank it, letting the tart liquid flow over his tongue.  He set his half-full glass down.

“I wouldn't know if that fruit grew any where else, it is very abundant in Naezshan Zhunith.  Most of our hunters use it when trailing a wounded animal.  It gives you strength, and stops hunger, thirst, even the need to sleep.” Zdoth said, matter-of-factly, he liked this old man, he reminded him of an elder medicine man from his old clan.

With everything said, he waited for a reaction from both Hieronimus and Chronusian, while enjoying a sweet aroma that had drifted to Zdoth from a man burning stones.  My eyes are playing tricks on me burning stones, he chuckled to himself.

Chronus was almost embarrassed. He had just been told three times, that he had made a hasty decision, and must reconsider. He realized just how unprepared he is for this trip. He had never traveled anywhere in his life without safety of a caravan, and then never without his father. He had no Idea what the roads may look like, how to tell the whether, what berries not to eat etc. He was an indoor guy, a bookworm trying to chew through the cover. If he was going to make it to Horth, he needed these people’s help.

“Well”
, he said finally. You all are right, leaving tonight is a bad idea. But leaving in the morning will call for a lot of preparation, especially on my part. If you don’t mind Hier, I would like to share rooms with you for tonight. As for you two, well, thank you. I haven’t been in a situation when I’ve had to travel without father before. I got a little lonely. And by the way Hier, I gave him that sapphire because I wanted to avoid a fight. It’s not what he wanted, but he wasn’t too bright. This may cause problems later or not, but now I need to worry about getting out of here.  What the heck though, don’t want to go to bed early, draw too much attention. How bout you all tell me about yourselves? I mean, were going to be traveling right?”Chronus smiled, and sat back down. ”Whatever that smell is, it’s very relaxing.

“ Ok, then, that is a good decision. We will deal with your opponent later - I don‘t think he will back soon. I will rent a room for us all! If you don‘t mind sharing a room with three men, Lady Slye? “

Hiero knows, that Slye doesn‘t think of herself as a lady, but he loves to see a lady in a woman so nice and self-confident. Only thing what disturbs him a bit, that he HAS to look up to her, but he is sure he will be accustomed to this soon.
Not waiting for an answer, he goes to the counter and asks for a room in the first floor, with a window to the backyard, for somebody to look after his horse - and four meals. Soon he is back with a key.

“Done - and I ordered a meal for us all as well. Who knows, when we will get a decent hot meal again. Be my guests today - as long as my supplies are fresh. “

He sits down again, taking the fruit he got from Zdoth and says:

“That‘s a good idea, to get to know each other a bit before going on a journey together. We know what drives you, Chronus and I‘m curios about where you hail from, Slye, but  Zdoth, it seems the place you saw your first ray of light is farer  away than ours. I know the whole of Santharia like my pocket and visited  the Rahaz-Dath and saw the peaks of the Tandala Mountains, but I have never seen such a fruit before, nor have I heard of lands called Naezshan Zhunith. I guess you are from Nybelmar? How comes it, that you are so far from your home? Or do want to start first, Slye?“

Hieronimus sits back in anticipation of interesting things to hear. He is not concerned about the men which want this blue stone from Chronus. As long as they are in a well filled tavern. And he has already an idea, how to get Chronus out of the town without being noticed by his enemies.

The scent coming from a nearby table disturbs him a bit. He wonders, which kind of burning stones this man has. He doesn‘t know of any which emit a scent, and why has he used a flint stone, if they are burning with a simple hit of an ordinary knife? But quickly his attention goes back to his group.

He likes sitting at the table with these young, nice  people. He never had children of his own, but he liked to imagine, that these three could be his - though they were a bit too young - well, maybe his grandchildren. He smiled at all three, especially at Slye who has something which reminds him of Almara, the elven Baveras‘ Aid, which he had loved long ago. With attentive eyes he looks at the three, feeling the growing bond between them.

How comes it, that you are so far from your home?

Those words stunned Zdoth for a moment.  He had never though about being away, it had been so long.  He remembered the events that took place as clear as that stone on Chronus’ staff.

“Naezshan Zhunith is a large desert in the western part of Nybelmar.  I am an exile.  I have no where else to go, nothing to do, so I want to explore this world.”  Zdoth said quietly, his head lowered.  He silently hoped that would end the question, not wising to delve into this memory any further.

“I arrived in this glorious city yesterday; I was hired as a scout for a merchant ship.  I have worked my way around as a tracker, a scout and a messenger amongst other things.  I was hoping to find a traveler in need of a tracker or a scout.”  Zdoth said as an attempt to change the subject from why he left his homeland to why he was here.

He turned to Slye and waited for her response to Hieronimus’ strange question.

It is obvious to Hiero, that Zdoth doesn‘t like to think back. So he puts an hand on the shoulder of the young man who travelled so far  - to flee his past? And with a warm voice he says to him:

“ No need to tell us more than you want to. It is not necessary to know one‘s history to see, what kind of man he is. And I like what I see. So maybe we two are a good team - I know the lands, you know how to read the signs which are hidden from my eyes.“
Leaning back in his chair and taking a careful sip of his Ximaxian Rainbow, he looks expectantly at Slye.

She smiled slightly as everyone’s attention turned towards her......

No thats not true....  I Had a very Persistent Aunt...Who for some Strange reason Like'd to see me in  Dresses....No Matter how much I Resisted...Something about, that’s what Young Girls should wear....” She Cupped her drink in her hands but still refused to bring it to her lips “ Luckily For me my father wanted to see his Daughter Learn Useful things like Politics and Swordplay and not what I Could bring to a marriage” She said with a smirk

“Of Course” She said Sighing  “All Good things must come to an End....And Circumstances Forced me to leave......But, these Past 5 years have been amazing....  I’ve traveled all around this Continent....Just exploring the Lands,  meeting new people and finding odd jobs now and then..... only chance has brought me to Xaramon and this exciting city.....” She brought the Drink up to her Mouth and took a big swig....

Ending in a Coughing attack.... “WOW.....Thats Uh.....An Interesting Drink......” She said Swallowing her eyes watering ....

"Greetin's.My name be §hændru,what be yar's?"

Slye looked up at the Man who had just walked up to their table...She realized that he was the one who was burning the rocks just a moment ago...and Coughed one more time...thankful for the Interruption...

Chronus was relieved that Hieronimus hadn’t addressed him. He trusted these people, yet he didn’t feel like talking much. He listened intently to Zdoth’s short description of his home. Chronus didn’t know much about Nybelmar, and what he did was derived from myth and legend. He noticed though, that Zdoth didn’t really feel comfortable talking about his past, because he quickly changed the subject. Apparently, Hieronimus noticed it as well, for he acknowledged it, and turned to Slye.

Chronus had be to Voldar,  from which Slye hails, once when  he was younger. His father bought him, and he stayed over a friend’s house for a while.

His name was Dim… Dimi… I don’t remember his name. But he was really nice; my dad said he was the one paid for the opening of our shop. I’d like to see him again someday.

He was intrigued by her story, and fixed his lips to ask her what those “circumstances” were, someone interrupted.

"Greetin's.My name be §hændru,what be yar's?"

Slye’s response was quick, but sounded a little unsure. Chronus wondered whether to welcome him to the table or not. He hoped the guy hadn’t eavesdropped.

“Umm… Well met Shaendru”, he said awkwardly. He turned to Hieronimus and glared at him with his eyebrows raised.  After all, this was his table, and it was up to him whether he can join them or not.

Zdoth was relieved to hear this.  He relaxed, and listened as Slye told her story.  He was intrigued to hear that they both had similar pasts…that is, each had something they wished to forget, Zdoth though about this for a bit, when suddenly the man who had been burning rocks introduced himself.

"Greetin's.  My name be §hændru, what be yar's?" the man said to them.

“Greetings Shaendru....I’m Slye..This is Chronusian...Thats Hieronimus....And thats Zdoth...”  Zdoth nodded at the mention of his name.

The man sat down, and said, "Well now, this seems to be a strange group o' people.  What brings ye together, eh?"

Zdoth remained quiet and looked around the table.  An old man, a young mage, a tall woman, and a bald foreigner.  He just now noticed the clothing they each wore.  From his own robe made of plant fiber, to the robes of Chronusian.  He thought to him self, we are an odd bunch.

He took one last swing from his juice, finishing off the glass, and then turned towards Shaendru.

“This good man here,” Zdoth said, motioning toward Hieronimus, “offered to buy us all drinks.  What brings you to his table?”

Hieronimus looks with disbelief at the man who sat down at their table without asking or being invited. Unfortunately Slye has told him all their names already and Zdoth that he invited them for a drink - this young people are so careless! Just half an hour ago Chronus had to give a jewel to an bully of man to evade an affront, and all know, that there are dangers around, and then they give away information so easily! What does this man want? He had a seat already, what is his purpose of joining them? Should he be in contact with the man who wants the blue stone of Chronus? His behaviour is suspicious! With raised eyebrows Hiero answers:

“Strange group? I don‘t know what you mean by this. A polite group, I would say, all were invited to this table or asked, if they could sit down. Strange world, where the young people know how to behave, and the older ones have difficulties with it?

Well, and to your question, I think it is none of your business, why we are sitting at  one table. Perhaps it was just pure chance. Why are you interested in it?“

Hieronimus eyebrows would have raised even higher, if that would have been possible. Has he been wrong about this man? First he intruded their round without politeness, then he acts as if he has been insulted and leaves the table quickly.
Hieronimus looks at the others:

“Have I been to impolite? Hmmm.......
Has he listened to what we were talking about earlier? That can hardly be the case with so much people around and the noise coming with them. He has entered the tavern only after the incidence with the bully of man, so he couldn‘t have noticed it. And you told us your story before he came in....But why then did he know, that some body wants your stones, Chronus - or your stone? That makes him even more ominous. He didn‘t answer the question, what he wanted from them. Strange.Strange.

Hiero scratches his head, not knowing how to solve the puzzle.

Slye clicked her tongue as the conflict happened between Hieronimus and Sheandru…She had assumed his intentions were well and meant No harm to any of them…and she thought everyone would feel the same obviously she was wrong …

Usually she’d be the one to make The Hasty Decisions …and then think about them later….But Heironimus had taken over her role for the moment and it almost made Slye Smile…Almost….She sighed loudly as the Man Walked away from their table

“Hier….May I Call you that?” She asked, her brow raised looking at the older man… “It was Impolite for him to Sit at the table with out being invited…I think we are all in agreement there” She glanced around the table looking at her fellow companions “But ..I Was always told that Two wrongs never Equal a Right…And I’m Sure that there was a better Way to address His mistake…Than to chase the poor man away like you did….”

She sipped her Cocktail slowly this time so not to induce another coughing attack...and thought for a moment …..
“I Don’t think he had anything to do with the Stone….Its true he mentioned it and That he came in after the event took place…But maybe, Just Maybe… He saw the action threw that window there …” She said motioning to the Large Glass pane a couple tables over … “ And Possibly.... over heard that Stupid Oaf speaking to someone outside about it…Maybe a partner …..But will never Know Now....” She Shrugged …she knew it was a Stretch but it COULD of Happened

“But DO Think about this much…If he is involved with Chronusians Stone” She said Staring into Everyones Eyes “…Is it a good idea to let him go…Now that he knows all of our Names?”

Hieronimus blushes slightly at Slyes comment, not very visibly in the dark tavern, but nevertheless - a sign, that he is a bit embarrassed, though he doesn‘t think, that he was too impolite to this newcomer, who forced himself onto them without thoughts.

These the youngsters are too frivolous in a situation like this. he thinks I might have acted different, if the incidence with the bully and Chronus had not taken place.   Darn, again I engaged me  too easily with other peoples business, but these young people seem nice, and somehow I feel a bit responsibility concerning them. I really shouldn‘t do that , but follow my own paths. But that is too late now.

With that in mind he answers Slye:

“ I don‘t think I was too rude, Slye. this was not a young  man, and normally impulsiveness is only found with young people. He should have known, that this is not a way to introduce himself.

Maybe all has happened as you proposed - but what if not? But what if he has connections to Chronus‘ enemies - he would of course deny, that it is so. I prefer to stay on the save side and be a bit cautious with what to tell whom, especially after that incident a bit earlier.

I chased him away? Maybe. But somebody who takes the liberty to address unknown people without purpose and then behave in an impolite manner has not the right to act as insulted like he has.

And you mean, going after him would be a good idea? I don‘t know - what do you want to say to him? He will be gone anyway by now. No, I wouldn‘t try to follow him. If it is Seyellas wish, we will see him again. Ah, don‘t worry now. Look , our meals are coming now - oh, and they have roasted taenish, how delicious. come on, have your meal and then we go upstairs to make some planes how to hide Chronus!“

Slye shrugged then sighed quietly…for once in her life she chose to be silent and not continue on with the Conversation…There where Something’s she disagreed with when it came to Hier’s statements…But... the Ximaxian Rainbow she had just finished …That and the 3 other Ales she had earlier … Were starting to have an effect and she feared Even SHE Wouldn’t know what she was arguing about if she chose to continue on.

She closed her eyes for a moment, Praying that the light and the noise from the tavern wouldn’t start to give her a headache like they usually did when she drunk too much…..

If it is Seyellas wish, we will see him again. Ah, don‘t worry now. Look , our meals are coming now - oh, and they have roasted taenish, how delicious. come on, have your meal and then we go upstairs to make some planes how to hide Chronus!“

This old man sounds just like my father…Which is something I don’t need at the moment…She thought to herself, bringing her hand up to massage her temples…She could feel the echoes of a very bad headache beginning … The only Remedy would be to have another drink …and another…until she was too drunk to care

When she opened her eyes the Barmaid was placing plates filled with food in front of everyone “What do you say Gentlemen…..Another round of drinks on Me?”  She asked smiling she could afford it tonight…and care about her budget in the morning

Chronus was a bit unsure about this entire ordeal. He was sure that the man who had interrupted them, however rude, meant no harm. He almost wanted to say something when Hieronimus scared him off, but didn’t have the initiative. When Slye bought up the possibility that this man may be in league with that shady brute he encountered earlier, Chronus almost profusely argued the accusation. Considering, though, that he had no proof of anything, and worked entirely from his gut, he decided it would be best to keep quiet.

When the food finally arrived, Chronus smiled, but doubted anyone noticed him. He immediately dismissed any thoughts of that Shaendru character and delighted solely in his meal.

“What do you say gentlemen? Another round of drinks on me?” Slye asked, smiling.

Chronus almost laughed.

“No, no my dear woman! We must all have our wits about us, drinking our troubles away is likely to put us in a very bad situation. I say that we eat and go to prepare for tomorrow. It’s late and I’m quite tired, and a bit excited. I’ve never been traveling like this before, but I’m a fast learner.” Chronus smiled a wide smile and begin to eat his mouth-watering dish of Taenish.

Zdoth nodded his head and let out a loud sigh after being quiet for so long.  He wasn’t sure if he should congratulate or yell at Hieronimus for chasing away that man.  He decided not to say a word.

“What do you say gentlemen?  Another round of drinks on me?”  Slye asked

Zdoth smiled, and held back a laugh at Chronus’ remark; Zdoth hadn’t had alcohol in years, for good reason.  He cleared his throat, and turned to Slye.

“I agree with Chronus, and besides, you may need to save some coin for later.  Who knows if you will need it later on in this strange journey.  Now, I am hungry, and we have a delicious looking Taenish in front of us.”  Zdoth exclaimed, anxious to eat a meal on solid land, and not on a swaying boat, and began to eat.

He paused after a few mouthfuls of the wonderful meal, looked up at Hieronimus and quickly said, “Don’t worry about him, if the good spirits wish it, he will be back.”  Then went back to eating.

Slye Could never admit Defeat in more than one night....That was Way beyond her character...Plus her headache demanded more from her.... I Guess I’ll be Drinking alone She thought to herself......

She was amazed at how Hungry They seemed to be....Stuffing the meat into their mouths like it was their last meal....Well it very well could be....Who knows where the road would take them tomorrow...But no matter how Tasty the Food looked on her plate She Just couldn’t bring it to her mouth...Not that she wasn’t hungry...For she was....But During her travels she was given tainted Taenish Meat ...Which left her in her bed for more than 3 days..... Sicker than she had ever been in her life....and since then she had never been able to eat the stuff......She waved over a Barmaid

“Wh’ a cana  gt’cha Miss” The plump Young Lady asked with a tired but Amused Smile on her face....Slye couldn’t Figure out what the look was For, but she just shrugged it off....

“If you Two are sure you don’t want a drink?....” She asked looking at the two younger Companions “Well Than...Ill have a Regular Ale....I Fear I could only survive ONE of those Strange Cocktails....” She said Smiling up at the Barmaid before turning to Hieronimus “Will you take The Safe Road Like these Youngins?...Or are You Man enough to Risk One More Drink?” She asked with a smirk across her Lightly Tanned Face....

Hieronimus laughs out loud at Slyes attempt to persuade him to drink another alcoholic beverage with her. The discomfort about this Shaendru nearly dissolves.

“ No, my dear, this is not a way to persuade an old man to have a drink he might not want, this works only with young men. I‘m long past my time I had the desire to impress a woman. But to do you a favour, I‘lI have an brown ale as well instead of a medlar fizz.“

This is however not entirely true, for he had and still has a weakness concerning women: he tends to follow their advice!

So he waves to the barmaid:

“ For me a brown ale as well, and a jug of medlar fizz , please. This lady will soon enough need some more to drink which is not intoxicating her young body. “

And turning to Slye again, he asks:

“ Dear, don‘t you like the Taenish? Do you want something else? Just tell the  girl here what you want, they have a vegetable stewl, or some roast baneg instead?. “

Pointing to Slyes plate  he talks to the barmaid again:

“ Please take this away and wrap it up, we will take it with us tomorrow.

Slye, I see, that you are not feeling well, but you need to eat something instead of just drinking strong stuff. Choose one of the dishes they have and eat!“

Concerned about her well being, he looks at her with an inquisiting look, to see, if he could locate, what she has. But unfortunately his abilities are not lying within the realm of Nehtor, so he can just hope, that it is nothing serious. Or is she just cross because of his verbal attack on this Shaendru? But no, he, Hieronimus didn‘t send him away, though he might have been unfriendly, the stranger just could have apologised and told them why he wanted to join them. “ Well, life will go on and tomorrow we know more!
he thinks and goes on eating this lovely tasting bird.

Without a word or anyone's notice,§hændru managed to get behind Hiero.
"Excuse me sir, sorry for the interruption I caused a lil' while ago,but may I have a ward with ye?"
§hændru had a scared and confused and worrysome look on his face, though you could barely see it past his mustache and beard.

Zdoth glanced up betweens bites and saw a man saying something to Hieronimus, the same man who Hieronimus had scared off earlier.  What was his name, Zdoth thought to himself.  It started with an ‘S’….oh yes, Shaendru, that’s it, I think.  Unsure of what to do, Zdoth quickly finished what was left of his bird, sat back in his chair and tried to stay awake.  Zdoth was tired, he had had a very busy day; his eyes were getting heavier by the moment, all he wanted was a good night’s rest.  Not wishing to interrupt, he watched the mass of people all around them; Zdoth was soon lost in thought.

Hieronimus is about to finish his taenish haunch, as suddenly the man he has scared away an hour or so ago appears next to his chair, addressing him:

‘"Excuse me sir, sorry for the interruption I caused a lil' while ago, but may I have a ward with ye?"

Hieronimus eyebrows are going up once more, he really doesn‘t like to be interrupted while eating and talking to a lovely woman (after a Ximaxian rainbow and a dwarven ale even a woman too tall is lovely), but at least, this time the man is polite, and he has somehow a concerned look, though his face covered with hairs doesn‘t reveal too much.

Why does he want to talk just to me? Hieronimus is thinking.

“ Is it ok, if I finish my meal quickly? Or is it too urgent? And do you want to talk to me alone? If so, please wait outside the tavern till I come to you in a minute or two. If not, feel free to take a seat.“

Hieronimus waves with his hand to the empty place beside him, hoping that he is able to finish this lovely meal.

No, my dear, this is not a way to persuade an old man to have a drink he might not want, this works only with young men. I‘m long past my time I had the desire to impress a woman.

Slye Laughed with Hieronimus.....At least She tried...She now knew that tactic wouldn’t work, But she was glad that he did decide to have a Drink with her...The Barmaid came by with her Ale as He told her what he wanted..

“Your Right Hieronimus im not a big fan of Taenish....”She said smiling at the Old Man She looked up at the Barmaid “If I could just have some Bread....and a simple Broth... Vegetable if you have it?” The Barmaid Nodded and Sly Turned her attention back to her company.....She picked up her Mug and took a Giant Swig..Her headache already starting to dissipate ....

She was taken back at The appearance of Shaendru Standing behind Hieronimus....She couldn’t help but think that he was an odd one....If she was ever Chased away By someone...She knew she would never return to Apologize..Specially if she believed she didn’t do anything wrong...

A moment Later The barmaid came back with a Spicy Vegetable Broth and a Giant Loaf of Bread ...Slye thanked her But Kept her eyes on the New Comer....What in the World could he want to speak with Hieronimus about? She thought to herself, While Breaking off a piece of bread and bringing it to her Mouth

"Thank'ee Mister Hieronimus, but I will just wait outside far ye."
With this,§hændru took a deep breath, and walked outside, traveling past waitresses and many men that looked as if they had had a little too much to drink, espiecally one man who looked as if he was in a fight. When finally getting outisde,he lit a fire and threw some leaves onto it.
If this Chronusian is that man's son,well...I dun't know what i must do then.I will probably beg for forgiveness and wait and see if I will be asked whether or not I can be of service.
Shaendru sighed. It had been a long day,and already strange things were happenign to him.He took out a small dagger, and catching a passing rat,he killed it,skinned it,and picked up a stick and began to cook it.§hændru watched with morbid fascination as the flesh blackened and crackled, until there was red blood dripping form it.He took it off the make-shift spit, and using the stick to hold it together,he began to eat.It waqs delicious, and best of all,it was free. The sailor noticed that no one was passing by.Everyone must have already come in...He smirked, and quietly,he sneaked to the back of the inn.
....Several minutes later,§hændru had with him an empty bottle of Wine.He tossed it behind him,and crouching near his fire,he continued to wait for Hieronimus.

Zdoth looked over at Hieronimus, with half opened eyes, and said, “The good spirits wished it, he was back.  Now if you don’t mind…" Zdoth turned to a near by barmaid and asked. “Would you show me to the room?  I am very tired and I would like to rest before tomorrow.”

Zdoth stood up, gathered up belongings, checked to make sure he had everything, and walked over to the barmaid, assuming she would lead him to the room Hieronimus had rented.  As Zdoth was walking over to her, he tripped over his own feet, and collided with a very large drunken patron, who then shoved Zdoth to the ground.  Now wide-awake, Zdoth quickly hopped up and backed away from the behemoth of a man, apologizing as he went.  These next few moments took an eternity, and Zdoth thought to him self, what did I do to deserve such rotten luck.   Forgetting about what was behind him; he tripped over his chair and began to fall on top of Slye.  With his arms flailing about, he attempted to catch himself by grabbing onto the table, yet he failed.  He now hoped that Slye was sober enough to either catch him, or move out of the way.

It’s that Sheaendru guy again…

Chronus saw the guy come up behind Hieronimus and said something, but Chronus didn’t pay attention. Shaendru seemed kind of apologetic, so he left it alone. He knew they guy couldn’t mean much harm. Chronus went back to eating his Taenish. A little later, Zdoth asked the barmaid to show him to the room. Chronus began to get up and join him, when the funniest thing happened. As Zdoth walked over to Hieronimus, he fell backwards.

Was he shoved?

Chronus looked and saw Zdoth backing  towards the table. He tripped over his chair and fell towards Slye. If Slye was 10% sober, Chronus would’ve laughed. Now, he was worried what would happen to her. OR what would happen to Zdoth. Slye didn’t seem like the kind of person who would take being fell on lightly… especially when tipsy. Hopefully, she was sober enough to move...

Slye was in the midst of eating her broth...when Zdoth stood up complaining that he was tired...She nodded him good night and leaned back into her seat....

Her eyes went wide as She saw what happened next....Zdoth in his clumsiness tripped over his own two feet...She tried to hold in a chuckle which didn’t really work...When the Big Man he fell into pushed him onto the ground Slye stopped laughing but was relieved when he was able to avoid a fight....She shook her head with a giant smile on her face.....What kind of people am I traveling with? She laughed to herself

She looked back down at her half-eatin broth....And it was only luck that brought slyes eyes up from her bowl again...She looked just in time to see Zdoth falling towards her....it was like Slow Motion ...The slow motion probably had something to do with  the buzz she was getting from all the Alcohol she had just consumed... she Wasn’t too sure...But what she WAS sure about ...was This bald man was About to fall straight on top of her....She Leaped up...Pushing out her hands to try and catch him...

He fell into her arms with a umph...Knocking Her breath away...She wasn’t expecting his weight and she fell  backwards into her chair ..... His memento pushed them back some more.....And They fell Backwards until they both landed on the Floor...Zdoth on top of her

Slye slowly opened her eyes...She was staring straight at the ceiling ..her back hurt something awful and she could feel the chair broken in pieces around her....But what really got her attention was Zdoth on top of her....His face had landed straight into her Bosom...She busted out laughing uncontrollably ... this was the funniest thing that had happened to her in months!...And he sure was getting an Eye Full...

This man, Shaendru, decided to leave the tavern and not to take a seat. Well, this is ok with Hieronimus, and he hurries to put the last piece of Taenish in his mouth and take a long draft, emptying his jug of ale. He gets up to follow §haendru when  Zdoth decides he is tired and wants to go to the room.

He asks the barmaid to show it to him, but Hieronimus has the key - and hopes the barmaid has none! So he searches in his different poaches and bags hanging from his belt for the key - where has he put it?

Zdoth seems to think, the barmaid could help him and goes over to her. Then strange things happen. Hiero doesn‘t see, what happens exactly, because he is occupied searching for the key.

So he is surprised when suddenly, accompanied by considerable noise, both, Slye and Zdoth are crashing to the floor  in front of him, with pieces of a broken chair scattered around. Slye seems to have hurt her back, the way she looks, but Zdoth seems to lye quite comfortably with his head bedded in Slyes bosom. Not a bad place for a rest, Hieronimus thinks smiling. Though Slye might have hurt herself, it is nevertheless a funny situation. Hiero tries hard not to laugh out loud, it could be that Slye is hurt , her back will be painful for some days. Hiero steps around the two, holding his hand out for Zdoth, saying:

“ This is surely a nice place to rest for you, Zdoth, but I doubt Slye will agree here with you. I propose to better take the bed in the room upstairs.“

Talinsha entered a fairly open area in Ximax it was nighttime now but she did not yet feel like going in to a tarven. She had heard much of this place from her father. Settling down on a bench she found under a candle she pulled her journal and quill out of her bag and began to write about what she could see. She saw a tavern "the old wizard" which looked so warm and inviting but decided against entering. It was a beautiful night. So she sat under candle light listening to the sounds of the night. She leaned against a wall the bench was next to and tighting her hand around her sheathed sword and bag she closed her eyes.

Zdoth found him self suffocating.  He wasn’t too sure what had just happened, he remembered falling, and he remembered being in a tavern, but that couldn’t explain why he had such a soft landing, and why he couldn’t breath.  His hearing was slightly muffled, but he still heard the great burst of laughter.  He slowly looked up, and, very much to his surprise, he saw Slye.  However, it wasn’t all of her…only her neck and up.  This is when Zdoths face turned a vibrant red.  Not completely back to his senses, Zdoth lay on top of her in a daze.

“This is surely a nice place to rest for you, Zdoth, but I doubt Slye will agree here with you.  I propose to better take the bed in the room upstairs.”  Hieronimus said, while offering Zdoth his hand.

In a flash, Zdoth grabbed the hand, hoisted him self-up, muttered an inaudible thank you to Hieronimus, another inaudible apology to Slye and darted towards the stairs.  Remembering he had forgotten his pack and bow, he spun around in a comical fashion, ran back, picked up his bow and a few arrows that fell out of the quiver.  By this time, the entire tavern was roaring with laughter, which succeeded in deepening Zdoths red face and making him even clumsier.  Zdoth spun around, looking for his backpack, which was tangled up in his feet.  Zdoth took one step, and tripped again, this time with out the soft cushion of Slyes bosom.  This won another wave of roaring laughter from the tavern.  Zdoth hopped up, with an amazing lack of grace, one foot nearly hitting a table, and he snatched up his backpack.

With a bright red face, Zdoth turned to Hieronimus and asked with a quivering voice, “Can I get the room key?"

Hieronimus just stands and looks at young Zdoth. Was is the matter with him? Why is he so clumsy? Isn‘t he a scout and a tracker? Did he have alcohol - no, just juice.

When asked for the key, he hands it to Zdoth, saying.

“ Here, it is room number 5, it is painted on the door“

He ponders , if he should accompany the young man up the stairs, but decides against it, it would be even more humiliating. The whole tavern watches anyway. So much to un undetected meeting upstairs. At least, Chronusian's haunters would not dare to do anything while all people are looking. But how they should be able to leave tomorrow without anybody noticing it?

To draw the attention of the people to himself and to allow Zdoth to escape without being looked at, Hieronimus gives way a weakness he can‘t deny. He takes out of one of his pouches a big cloth, at least half a ped long and broad. It has a colour which might once been white, but is now beyond any description. Still standing he lifts it to his nose a blows so heavily in it, that his eyes begin to water. The noise is considerable, most of the people are looking now at him. He lowers the cloth finally, looks in a condescendend way at the people:

“Never seen a man blowing his nose before, ehh?“

A quick look back to Chronus, hoping that he would help Slye to her feet, he goes outside to meet this §haendru.

The man waited indeed outside on the street - sitting near a little fire.

“Sorry, it did take so long, §haendru, but well, happenings in the tavern caused my delay. What is it, that you want me to tell?

On the other side of the quite broad road Hieronimus noticed a woman, sitting there on a bench, writing in the light of a torch. He thinks:

A man lighting a fire on a road in the middle of Ximax - and there a woman who knows how to write and shows this in the open, at night, is she not afraid of being attacked by any little thief passing?

Zdoth silently thanked Hieronimus, and wished for the good spirits to bless him always.  With the key in one hand, his bow in the other, and his backpack on his back, Zdoth made his way to the room, slowly so he would avoid any other mishaps.  Zdoth unlocked and opened the door, quickly stepped in, and then shut it right behind him.  He tosses the bag in a corner, and carefully propped his bow against the wall.  He walked over to the window and stared out over the beautiful city of Ximax in a trance like state.  He cursed his rotten luck, and silently hoped Slye wasn’t offended.  With a long sigh, he leaned against the wall, closed his eyes and ran a hand over his baldhead.  After a little bit, Zdoth began to rummage through his pack, pulling out a bunch of animal furs.

“ This is surely a nice place to rest for you, Zdoth, but I doubt Slye will agree here with you. I propose to better take the bed in the room upstairs.“

Slyes Sides ached from all the laughing....The look on Zdoth’s face was pure amusement...And his scene after he jumped off her was almost too much...Luckily her laughter was drowned out by the rest of the tavern...so she really couldn’t feel too bad about laughing at her companion...She sat up pushing away a broken piece of chair....Her back was sore but it really didn’t hurt that bad....

“Well how do yah like that....All these Men In the Room and none to help a Girl off the floor....” She said out loud with amusement in her voice... she slowly got to her feet, dusting off the back of her pants....Zdoth had run up stairs and Hieronimus had walked outside to meet with Shaendru, which just left Chronusian ...She smiled at him...

“Well im sure this Isn’t the best way to be inconspicious...”She said with a twinkle in her eye, she turned to apologize to the two barmaids that came over to clean up the mess....Hopefully she wouldn’t be charged for this....

She pushed her hands into her back, to try and massage it herself.... “Chronusian, I hadn’t had the opportunity to tell Hieronimus that I already had a room here....Bought and paid for this morning...It’s the second door on the left...” She pulled out her room key “Number...uh..ah yes Three..and I think its calling my name...” She smiled at him again “There’s space enough for another person....Keep that in mind if your room becomes Extra crowded....You can let Zdoth and Hieronimus Know as well...I Wouldnt want you Three being uncomfotable if you didnt have to be....”

She picked up her mug and drank the last few gulps that she had left.... “You Don’t mind me  turning up right now do you?.....I Can stay down here if you really want...I'll need a new chair though....“ She asked making an extra point to massage her sides a little harder...

Chronus was glad that Slye took all of this lightly.

Somewhere behind him Zdoth asked for the room key and ran upstairs to the room. He think he heard Hieronimus say number 5.

“Well how do yah like that? All these Men in the room and none to help a girl off the floor....”

At this Chronusian let out his long withheld laughter. When she mentioned that she already had a room in the inn he smiled.

“I expected that much. What kind of person would you be if you gambled away all of our coins with no place to stay? At any rate thanks for letting me know. I say you turn in right now, and get some rest. I’m going up myself, mainly to comfort Zdoth. Did you see how red he turned?”
This sparked a little more laughter in the bar…

“Is your back ok? That was quite a fall. You don’t need a chair, you need a bed. Let’s turn in now. Hieronimus will understand. Shall we go together? Or would you rather go alone? That seems more like your style.”

He had read Her mind about the Bed...All she wanted to do was lay down and hopefully get a goodnight sleep.
"No No Chronusian...I like comapny Just as much as the next person " Slye said blowing a strand of her hair from her face...They walked up  the stairs, Chronusian slightly behind her..... as they reached her room she opened her door, turned and Smiled again

"Thanks for the Concern...I'll see you and everyone Else Bright and early tomorrow Morning...OH And if anything Comes up....Don't Hesitate to Come a Knocking" she said her goodnights than shut the door behind her

The room was fairly small.. A bed with her green cloak and sword carelessly thrown on it... a small window and a Table and chair ...She walked over to the table and washed her face with cold water from a basin that was brought earlier in the day.....She threw off her boots ...Layed down on the bed.... Closed her eyes and willed her sore self to sleep....They'd have an early start tomorrow and she wanted to make sure she'd get all the rest she could....

Hieronimus  looks a  bit puzzled, he thought that Slye all had introduced them before he chased this man away a hour or so ago and asks §haendru therefore:

“ Yes, of course, if you are lucky he is still inside the tavern, could be though , that he is already in his room. But why are you asking again? As I can remember, our Lady Slye introduced all of us to you already when you came to our table the first time. Is there anything important we should know? But well, it is not really my business, just give it a try and have a look, if he is still downstairs. If you excuse me - I think this lady over there should not sit alone in the dark."

Darn, am I already thinking of ‚our lady Slye‘, meaning ‚ my lady Slye‘? I should be careful, otherwise I will do everything what she wants me to do soon.

Hieronimus bows very slightly to §haendru, because this weird man with a white beard (definitely more expressive than his, that angers Hiero a little bit) and black moustache is not one of the youngsters. Then he goes over to the woman sitting in the  dark, with just a torch over her head. To not to frighten her, he stops about three peds in front of her.

“ Good evening, milady, may I introduce me? I‘m Hieronimus Kupfdrubus, a former Cleric of Grothar. I‘m a bit worried about you sitting here alone in the dark. Though Ximax is not famous for any trouble concerning thieves and bandits within its walls, it is nevertheless not advisable to sit here alone in the nearly dark road, though the evening is warm. Is there any place you can go or are you waiting for anybody who is able to protect you?

After Chronus left Slye to sleep, he slowly strolled to his room, a couple of doors down. H entered, and saw Zdoth sleeping peacefully on the floor… Or was he sleeping? An animal fur was pulled over him so he couldn’t tell.  He went over to the bed, and sat down on the soft pillows. He pulled out his bag and examined the contents. He realized that his bag was completely void of provisions.

What about food? I guess I need to prepare some before I leave… but I can’t cook.

He continued looking through his bag, and pulled out his brown, leather-bound journal. He wrote:

I’m definitely not prepared for this. I haven’t the first clue about land traveling. I do know maps of the area pretty well so I won’t be totally useless… I really doubt magic will help us. I can only cast simple spells, like telekinesis quickly. How will that help? The spells that can actually cause injuries to someone are so weak it’s a joke! I can use them to light fires at the most. I’ll be a burden on these people who decided to help me… That’s really why I tried to skip on them earlier. But at least they are good company…

He lay down on the bed and stared at the ceiling, wide awake.

Zdoth heard Chronus enter the room but didn’t move, he didn’t want to disturb him, and quite frankly he wanted to know why he was digging through his pack.  A little while after he heard him stop, Zdoth asked a question that had been on his mind since he decided to tag along with Chronus.

“May I ask you something?” with out waiting for a reply he continued, “Please take no insult by this, but you appear to be a scholar.  Do you know anything about travel?  Have you spent a single night out of a bed?  Are you prepared for this journey?  I only ask because I like to know what you are capable of, and you seemed to be in a big hurry to leave when we first met.  I hate surprises.  I know that sometimes looks are deceiving, look at me for instance.  If you wish to ask me the same questions, please don’t hesitate.”

With that said, Zdoth turned over, looked at Chronus, and awaited his response, hoping he wouldn’t get mad.

Chronus was shocked. Zdoth hit the nail right on the head... and jammed it into Chronus' mind.

"I'm I that green that you knew right off?" Chronus asked with a faltering voice. "I tried to leave because I didn't want to burden you nice people with my problems. I really still don't want to. But I need help. I truly don't know the first thing about traveling like this. Thats probably why my dad said don't travel alone." Chronus moved to the front of he bed and sat on the edge. "And as far as what I can do... wind magic... and I'm darn good at it. The problem is, I cant do much to defend myself. The spell I am best with is the telekineses spell, which I can use to move stuff with my mind. My offensive spells take longer to cast, and can barely do anything because I'm a low level mage. So, to answer your question: No, I'm not prepared for this journey at all. And I'm not really worried about your reason for helping. I take it that you're just a nice guy, and I want to leave it that way. I really appreciate your help though Zdoth." Chronus looked at Zdoth inently for about ten seconds, sighed, fell on his back, and continued staring at the ceiling.

Zdoth chuckled to himself, Chronus had every right to be suspicious of his intentions, and Zdoth thought he deserved a fair answer.  He rolled back onto his back and sighed

“I wish to explore this land.  I have no money, and nowhere near the food to stay in this city for long.  And to be completely honest, I have nothing better to do.” Zdoth smiled, rolled over on his side, and said to Chronus, “I am tired; we should get some rest before tomorrow.”

With that, Zdoth fell asleep.

Ximax, a place that he has only heard about loomed before him, daunting yet something seemed to draw him there. The cloaked figure approached the walls cautiously, silver hues scanning as he walked, wary of anything and everything for it was strange territory for him. Idly fingers played on the hilt of his sword, not really there for his use but only if absolutely needed for his protection or another's safety.

As he made his way passed the walls of the famed city, one in which the academy had its origin, a wave of power washed over him. It was not something he could absorb but he could feel the magic eminating from about him. It was something that he hadn't felt this strong since the last day he saw his sister. Painful memories of that day filled his mind, he had been taken from her and whether she was alive now was beyond his knowledge. All he could possibly do is to hope and pray that the man that hunted his family had not found her and eliminated her from his life.

His gaze wandered along the streets, noticing easily in the dark random things and people, students most likely, of the academy. A couple of taverns were open still yet he felt there was no need to have to enter one since he did not desire company and had no need of food or drink. As he approached one, his eyes caught site of something on the edge of the light, a figure, sitting alone on a simple bench with eyes closed. Cautiously he approached the figure, his cloak concealing him from view as he stood. As he stood there, he found that the figure was that of a female and he did his best not to look too daunting because of his height and his wish to remain hidden from the world. He noticed her hand moving her her blade but was unsure if it was him or if it was something else. Some one else was there and talking to her. He was too far away to hear what was being said for his ears were not of the best hearing quality.

While watching her, he then noticed that her eyes were not closed fully and she could most likely see him at where he stood, though he was a fair distance from her. Relief rushed over him as he eliminated the problem of waking her and having to deal with a frightened girl with a sword.

Chronus was tired of staring at the ceiling, and decided to go find Hieronimus. He silently slipped past Zdoth, as not to wake him, and left the room. He walked downstairs and looked around. Thre were only a handfu of people still down there.

There's that Shaendru guy. Wonder what he's doing. He looks lost.

Chronus walked toward the door, and realised something.

We're going to have to make a quick leave tomorrow. I think It'd be best to have breafast sent up. It had better be light.
He walked over to the table, and asked the innkeeper to have 3 light breakfasts sent to room 5, and 1 breakfast to room 3, just before dawn.

Chronus turned around, and walked wearily to towards the door.

§hændru saw the Chronus lad,and quickly ran to him.
"Aye! Mister Chronus!"
After what seemed like a long time running to him,he finally caught up to him,and began to shake his hand furiously.
"Aye Mister Chronus, so happy to see you! I was walkin' through thee town when I spies this bookstore, so bein' the curious meslef i walked in! And the man thar said he was ye father, and asked if I could help you! Well mister Chronus,What say you? May I help thee, or shalt I be too much a barden?"
With this, he caught his breath and waited for the younger man's response.

As chronus was walking towards the door, Shaendru ran up to him, grabbed his hand, and vigourously shook it. He said that he saw Terranus, who asked Shendru to help Chronus.

"Well, I don't think my dad knows four of us are going. But I'll gladly accept your offer! We are leaving in the morning, at sunrise. Do you have a room here? If not I suggest you wait around with me, until I can get to Mr. Kupfudrubus." Chronus smiled at Shaendru and said "Youre a bard eh? We'll need some inspiration... Welcome aboard sir! Now lets find Hieronimus." With that Chronus began walking toward the door, signaling for Shaendru to come with him.

As §hændru walks with him, he somewhat puffed his chest as he said
"Ah yes,  I am indeed a bard, a good story-teller if I may say so meself. But that's not all. If ye can tell, I used to be a, shall I say, a seafarin' folk, if ye will, so If we go out to sea I might prove some helpfulness thar. Aye, if me memory serves, Mister Hieronimus is talkin' to a young lassy out thar on a bench. If he isn't anymore, well then I've no idea where he be."

The sailor took out a pipe and lit it as he was walking with the mage in training.

Before the lady on the bench can answer Hieronimus, a man in a grey robe similar to that of Hiero is running down the street, addressing him. Hiero's most times cheerful face darkens.

He hurries back to the tavern to look for Chronus and meets him and §haendru under the door.

„Sorry, Chronus, I can‘t come with you tomorrow morning, I have to look after an old friend. But if you take the road to Horth, I will join you in some days. Grey, my horse will be glad if she is able to run for a while. See you then!“

With that he hurries up the road with the man who had come to fetch him. Big drops are starting to fall out of the sky, which soon evolve in a heavy storm - as Hieronimus has predicted earlier.

Talinsha was about to open her mouth to answer that she could look after herself when the man rushed away with another man. Signing lightly she looked towards the other man who had entered the area.

Looking up at the sky she saw rain starting to fall. Sighing slightly she knew that within minutes her hair would be a mess. Shivering slightly as her clothes began to get wet she quickly pushed all her belongings in to her bad and hoped that the paper had not got wet.

Standing she managed to get a clearer look at the man. It was an elf, nodding she turned and started to walk up the street after the man who had just started speaking to her.

Thunder Awoke Slye from her slumber she looked around the room the moon making silhouettes against the walls.....She sighed and sat up rubbing her eyes....The rain was beating against her window getting harder by the Second.....She glanced to the  ground ....at one point she must have knocked her sword there during her slumber.....She tiredly got out of the bed and picked it off the floor walking with her eyes half closed to put it on the table .....

“AH GODS!...” She dropped everything and bent down to grab her toe which she had just stubbed.... “Ouch.....Of course something like this would happen to me...”she said sucking in air....

once she was satisfied that it wasn’t broken or bleeding she stood wincing in pain grabbing her sword in the process....She placed it on the table and limped back over to the bed.....

The thunder was getting louder...and as much it bothered her she had to get some more rest tomorrow’s journey was going to be a long one....She laid down pulling the covers up and closed her eyes....She could still feel her toe throbbing but let the sound of raindrops lure her back into a deep slumber.....

The old man quickly ran off. without waiting for an answer.

"Uhh, OK. Well, I guess we'd better turn in for the night sir. We're in room number five. C'mon"

Chronus walked back up the narrow stair to the rooms. He listened at Slye's door to hear if she was still up, but heard nothing. He finally reached room number five. Assuming that Shaendru was still behind him, he whispered , "Zdoth is asleep. Be very Quiet. Umm... If you don't mind... Can I use the bed? I'm not very accustomed to sleeping on the floor." Chronus didn't wait for an answer. He jumped in the bed and pulled quickly under the sheets, not realizing how tired he was...

Following the man for a minute she realised that she had lost him. Turning round she could see the elf still standing there in the rain. Making her way towards him, she felt rather lonely. The rain was falling all around her and the sky was dark.
"Hello Sir" She said to the elf.

"Well Mister Chronus, It seems to me that it is gettin late, so I'm gonna go to me room."
With this, Shaendru walked into the tavern and went up to his room. However, when he got to his room, Shaendru could not sleep, because he was to intrested about what was to come of him because he made the decision to help these people.
"Aye, maybe I made the wrong decision, but now I have to live with it, and I don't feel bad about it. But I still can't sleep. Arrg....."
