Quegon opened his eyes and sat up, all the sudden he wished that he hadn't as the light shining through the only window in his room hurt his eyes. "ugh wonder what time it is" he said as he got off the bed and walked over to the window, though it he could see that the sun had only just come up, Time to get moving Quegon thought to himself as he put on his cloak.

Quegon left the room and walked downstairs and headed for the kitchen as he knew he wasn't going to get anything out of the owner, he thought he might try getting one last piece of information from the chef.

@Quegon:

The tavern looked sadly empty compared to the hustle and bustle of last night, as most of the villagers were out in the weekly market. There was only a lone tavern maid was talking to a patron (Arggosh) who had just arrived, and a couple of men sitting down at the tables having an early drink.

The old man -- who was the cook -- pushed open the kitchen door and emerged out of the kitchen just as Quegon was heading towards it. He had forgotten that he left a bottle of sauce under the counter.

Hunched as the old man was, he couldn't really see what was "above" him that clearly. All he knew that he had pushed opened the door and had bumped hard into something dark and kind of squishy. An "OOF!" escaped from his lips, and then he looked up and saw that it was Quegon.

"Oh! You! Again! Good! Morn!"

"good morning, I was just coming to see you" Quegon said as he moved over to the bar, "I forgot to ask you something last night, do you know if anyone lives near the Shivering forest or someone that knows more about it than the average person?"

@Quegon:

"I forgot to ask you something last night, do you know if anyone lives near the Shivering forest or someone that knows more about it than the average person?"

The cook started chuckling, as if he just heard something really funny. "You! Go! To! Shivering! Woods? Why! You! Go! There?" He started to shake his head, "No! No! Bad! Place! Musn't! Go! There!"

He muttered something under his breath, and then spoke again, "No! One! Stays! Around! There! Bad! Bad! Place! Only! That! Crazy! Man! Thaetum! And! That! Crazy! Woman! ..." he lowered his voice a little, while looking around to make sure that no one else was around the counter, "Kestrel."

He started waving his hands around, as if to emphasize the illogical craziness that he thought of of these two persons, "Crazy! Crazy! People! Crazy! Yes! Crazy!"

hmm they might be my only chance to see this through Quegon thought to himself "listen just tell me where I can find them and I'll be off" Quegon suddenly realised how much the old man was worried about the forest "listen if I can get their help I'll be able to get through the forest with no problems its the only way I'll be able to come back safely"

@Quegon:

The cook shook his finger at Quegon, "No! No! Not! Wise! To! Go! There! Woods!" He shook his head vigorously, "Don't! Know! Where! Thaetum! Lives! Don't! Know! Where! Kestrel! Lives!" He gestured towards the entrance of the tavern, "Kestrel! Nice! Herb! Lady! Then! Became! Crazy! Because! Of! Those! Evil! Woods! Evil! Evil! Woods!" He frowned, "Don't! Know! Where! Around! Woods! She! Is! Should! Not! Go! Should! Not! Go! Or! You! Go! Crazy! Too!"

With that, he made a quick swipe under the counter for the bottle of sauce he was looking for and then hobbled off into the kitchen again, a disgusted look on his face.

If you want to head to the market place now Quegon, post in the Village Center thread and start at where the fountain is. Remember to read the info in the Ongoing Story Info thread and indicate which fork you are heading down to. If you want to go elsewhere, continue posting in the RR2 thread but state that you are standing outside of the tavern, and then indicate where you want to head to.

((OOC: So sorry for my leave of absence, all better now.))

"Your quest is for money and revenge. Mine is not. I have run into a seemingly dead end in my own personal search have need a change. I shall help you in anyway I can. It may not be much for I am not much of a fighter but I can use the sword." Kalina said as she patted the sword on her side, "My abilities are used elsewhere and can be useful in extracting information." Not exactly what Roland would consider his perfect partner, he generally desired a more combat orientated person but she might would prove useful in other fashions, either way Roland had made up his mind long ago and there was no changing it.

"I suggest not looking for Thaetum, at least for now. Let us go in search of the elf Valannia and the guards. Perhaps we can sqeeze some information out of the group." "We shall be careful and plus,..." she cut her self short in her conversation, "Let us begin our search for the elf and the guards. They willl most likely be of the most use to us at the moment." Roland wondered what was going through her mind, wondered what she had stopped her self from saying, what part of her self she nearly revealed but stopped her self from doing so. Rather than dwelling on it Roland decided to let it go, he should pry on tings latter, now was not the time, now was the time to move forward and start in this search.

“Valannia it is.” Roland said once again brushing his short hair back in merely a method of directing his thoughts, as if he could touch his thoughts through his skull. This was the one that Roland favored but feared also. He surely had little to worry about but authority was not one of Roland’s favorite groups to mess with. Surely they would prove to be the most useful in this hunt, but why would they help. Roland slowly started devising plans as to how to gain the help of this elf and her guards, this would need to be carefully done or suspicions might be drawn forth by our desire to help. Roland paused for a second, and with a slight look of confusions spoke further, “Where do we go to find this Valannia?”

"Ok then if you think your furniture is tough enough i'll use it.  Its just that in previous taverns and houses i've sat down and the chair has collapsed under me." Arggosh stands and then seats himself in the nearest chair. "This'll do fine for now."   Arggosh shifts slightly as he gets comfortable.

"Now I was wondering if you had a haunch of someting either left over from last night or cokkin' back there? 'cause this travelling has given me a mighty hunger." His stomach rumbling seems to underline the situation.

((OOC: Roland. First I must apologize for my lack of posting. Brain is elsewhere and what not...Hope this makes up for it))

“Valannia it is.”
“Where do we go to find this Valannia?”

She thought for a moment, recalling the best she could, the elf's entrance into the tavern. She had introduced herself as a knight for the Prince. Perhaps if we went to the main place where the soldiers were stationed we would have a bit of luck. "Let us head to the main station of troops. Perhaps we shall find something of use there..." She shrugged, not completely sure of what to do or where to look but at least it was a start. Now...how to get there...

She remembered from early yesterday that the barmaids had sent another to the main encampment, a mysterious looking man and one she did not like the looks of but no matter. Perhaps he has left by now and I shall not have to worry about him. She continued to talk to herself in her mind, pondering different points and planning how to go about things. Refocusing her random thoughts, she came across something that she believed would be useful, instructions on how to reach the main encampment. It was southwest of Eresh, a good walking distance that would take most of the day. "I feel like a run...how about you?" She chimed suddenly out of nowhere. Without waiting for an answer she took off and at brisk pace to the Southwest side of Eresh not even with a glance over her shoulder to see if Roland folled her. She knew he would have difficulty keeping up. Height and heriedity were with her, she was swift, her main physical attribute if not her only one. Keep up if you can... She taunted silently...knowing that he wouldn't be able to.

@Arggosh:

The tavern maid smiled as Arggosh eased himself into a chair. She took out her rough brown pad and quill, ready to take his order.

"Now I was wondering if you had a haunch of someting either left over from last night or cokkin' back there? 'cause this travelling has given me a mighty hunger."

The tavern maid tipped her head a little and chuckled, "Food at the Rusik is always cooked fresh with the best ingredients Milord! In fact, Lady Bretha just enlisted the legendary Eve Magoo, so i heard, to do cooking in the evenings! You'll want to try out her dishes in the evenings Milord, but for the morning, how about some nice warm steaming pheasant broth?"

@All:

As Kalina and Roland stood outside the tavern, exploring their options of where to head next, suddenly the harsh shouts of men and the hard trampling of hurried feet broke the quiet silence of the morning and the sounds of bustle in the market.

Six armed Kyranian guards made a beeline towards the market, each of them loudly cursing at someone, but the words were too faint and mumbled to be heard clearly from a distance. It was not too long before they disappeared into the crowds of the Western Fork, seemingly roughly pushing everyone in their way, as if they were in a hurry to get to somewhere, or someone.

The door swung open, banging into the opposite wall, and an auburn-haired elven woman stood framed in the doorway. Her cheeks flushed as she realized that she had made rather a lot of noise and would undoubtedly be attracting rather a lot of attention. She hurridly (sp?) pulled her hood over the distinctive silver streak in her hair and moved quickly along the wall, letting the door swing shut behind her. She swept up to the bar and tapped nervously on the polished surface as she looked around for the barkeep, or a waitress, or indeed anyone of authority who could give her a room, a place to hide. Loud mens' voices could be heard from outside, shouting to each other, and she kept looking back over her shoulder. Under her breath, she muttered to herself.

They wouldn't come in the tavern, they can't risk a guard being in here. They wouldn't, they couldn't. But the lure may be too great, the lure of the stone, the stone.

@Cacunai:

As the door slammed open, the few patrons in the tavern turned their head to see a slim hooded figure hurriedly walk in. Nevertheless, that didn't interest them for long and they turned back to their drinks and chatter once more.

Lady Bretha had just woken up not too long ago from her luxuriously furnished room on the second floor, not bothering to rise early for the morning because she knew that it was market day and was not expecting too many patrons. As she arrived at the counter to a slim hooded woman with a nervous look on her face, tapping away at the counter in a paranoid manner.

Lady Bretha smiled her toothy smile, always happy to see a customer -- and their coins -- in the tavern, "Well good morn Milady! Welcome to the Regal Rusik, the best --" she paused to chuckle, "-- and the only one around! Looking for a room, Milady?"

Outside the tavern, Cacunai's pursuers spotted her ducking into the tavern, and would have all but stormed in after her, if they had not seen six armed guards approaching with murderous looks on their face. They decided it was not their day, and headed the other way, muttering colourful courses at the fleet footed elf.

It would be greatly appreciated, goodwoman, it would.

At the woman's approach to the bar, Cacunai's tone changed dramatically from a soft, quick muttering to a throaty purr. She had found it rather useful in the past, especially in getting men to help her. She looked once more over her shoulder just in time to see her pursuers diverted from their chase. She visibly relazed and turned back to the woman (Lady Bretha), smiling prettily. It didn't matter if there weren't any men around to impress, it would be better if her manner remained constant. And then there was Daala to worry about... she mentally slapped herself back to reality. Daala will be fine, she told herself, Daala will not allow anyone to touch her but you, you know that. The other half of Cacunai's mind tugged feebly at a strand of her thought, stridently bawling its message, Your mare is not as safe here as in the mountains, Daala could be captured! Her mouth opened to retort back to the pessimist side of her mind before she remembered she was not on the open road as was her custom but here, in a tavern, in Elath knows what city, facing a woman who was probably wondering what in heaven's name this elf was playing at!

@Cacunai:

Lady Bretha snorted as Cacunai's tone turned from nervous-paranoia to husky purring. Them elves are silly, they think that kind of sniffy womanly behaviour works on everybody ... and they are not even ... woman. Well at least to Lady Bretha elves didn't fall into the category of being "woman" as a human woman did.

Still, flashing her toothy grin that was ever ready for a paying customer, Lady Bretha took up her quill and pad, "Oh, yer'll get the finest of rooms here in the Rusik, Milady! A room be 25 sans a night, paid in advance. How many nights should i put you down for, Milady?"
