Shurshing put her head out of Cacunai's pocket and smelled the air. In the woods, there were people. She didn't know how many, but probably more than one or two, judging by the amound of arrows on the ground. Shurshing pushed Fuzzytail, who was sitting next to her, slowly getting sober again. She squeacked something to him and the mouse translated: "Shrurshing says, don't be afraid if you get captured. We can bite through any rope!" - Fuzzytail hid his face in his hands: "Ooooh!.. What a headache!.."

@Cacunai & Fluffy:

Cacunai's little "speech" brought only silence all around her. If there was indeed somebody around them right now, they either did not want to make contact with Cacunai, or they had already left ... albeit a little hastily.

Yerun's sobs had subsided a little by now. He was trying to wipe away his tears with his already drenched sleeves. He fumbled within his jacket pockets to and slowly scooped up Manymeals and Teapot with his hands -- a little wet and sticky from his warm tears -- and held them close to him, stroking them slowly as he rocked himself back and forth on the ground, as if trying to shake off something unpleasant off his mind.

Cacunai stood a while longer eyeing the fringes of the woods to see if there was any response. But there was none. That was perhaps good, because if there were no longer anyone there, then there would no longer be any arrows flying at them.

Soon, Yerun had stopped his tears, but he was still all sniffy and had the saddest expression ever on his face. He tugged at Cacunai standing in front of him, indicating that they should go now. He was now even more determined than ever in finding Kestrel.

Ok, you can both commence posting in the thread The Shack of Kestrel the Craze. Once you post in that thread, your time will be 13 Bells :)   Nai, just assume that you and Yerun have figured out the directions, and somehow just bumped your way through without further incidents ;)

Mina was surprised to see that it was not a living creature that Elric had hit, but a piece of bark.  As Kiushapo picked it up, she could see what appeared to be a Styrásh symbol on it.  It did not seem very familiar to her though.  Perhaps the dark elves here have their own dialect...then again, I'm not that good with Styrásh.  She wondered if Kiushapo could read it.

"What is it? What did you see?"

Turning back to Elric, she replied, "It's just a piece of bark.  There is some kind of symbol on it though, but I can't read it."

@Mina & Kiushapo:

((OOC: Uhm ... Mina ... it was not a Styrash symbol, but something that was similar to a Styrash symbol. No biggie though, just edit in the word "like" in your post ... hehehe :) ))

"It's just a piece of bark. There is some kind of symbol on it though, but I can't read it."

Elric looked around cautiously, and after making sure that no one else was around, he moved forward towards Kiushapo and Mina, to take a better look at what they had found.

Elric narrowed his eyes and scrutinized the bark that Kiushapo held in his hands. "Hmm ... that's definitely Larkentir bark alright. As for the symbol ... it doesn't look familiar to me." Elric eyed the woods warily, "We best be getting away from the fringes of the woods, and move on. This is not a good place for three people to be caught unaware of." And then he added as an afterthought, "I'm not sure if you want to keep the bark or not ..."

Ok, at this point, for reasons yet to be revealed, it is important that you specify who keeps the bark and where it is kept. Of course you can choose not to keep it too, but i advise keeping it ... but it's free will of course ;)

Eve and Helli made their way down the pebbled path that slowly vanished ahead of them into the forest. The sounds of animals had slightly diminished, but from the looks of the vicinity it looked as though the woods would be a pleasant place. Eve smiled as the cool air hit her, and she turned back to Helli who was wandering along behind her.

"Don't get far behind. I don't want to loose you anytime soon," she said.

@Eve:

Helli was determined not to be left behind. She limped along, keeping pace with Eve quite stoically and stoutly. If anything, Helli wished that she had a pair of wings and could cover more ground more quickly in search of her son.

The vastness of the woods made her nervous though, even though they were merely walking in its vicinity and all was quiet and calm. Where should they start looking for her son?? What if he was in another part of the woods that they were not there searching??

Helli stopped for breath and turned to Eve, "Where are we heading? Where do we start looking??" She looked around her, a little lost, quite forlorn. She started muttering, "You know, my son ... the other son ... bless his soul, Lornin, told me about an abandoned outpost that has been deserted by the men ... perhaps ... perhaps if Lornen was hurt, he would know to make his way there for shelter? Oh dear, where do we start looking ..."

Eve smiled as Helli caught up and she subtley slowed her pace and then stopped, turning to look at the woman.

"If I only knew where to start. It seems we are both at a lost. I didn't even take time to ask the Captain, where he usually sends his men. Perhaps we should first look for any signs, such as footprints, weapons, armor...blood, anything that would tell us someone was around."

She turned away from Helli, peering keenly into the woods, and when a certain animal call caught her she stopped and looked back at the limping woman. "I have an idea."

She turned back to the forest and began to speak in the tongue of animals, which also happened to be the tongue of the ancient tribal Eyelians, none of which Helli would understand unless she was a linguistic/historian. "Animals of the forest, those who are good in nature, follow your good nature and come to my call!" To Helli, it would sound only like a jumbled of words with clicks, hooting, grumbles, and a few small, slightly noticeable chirps.

"Well M'Lady, a lovely morn is it not? I do hope we make it to the Shivering Woods quickly, do you know how far it is away?"

"Should not be too much longer m'lord. Though our place is slow, I believe we should come upon it at dusk, but perhaps I am wrong for I know little of time and distances." She patted his arm assuringly, as they left the city, heading southwest towards the Woods.

Their walk was mostly uneventful with exception of occasional stop to rest or to eat some of the food she had brought along for their use. It was nearly dark when they came upon the woods and  there was very little she could make out with her eyes. She debated using her power to explore it shallowly but she was tired and she needed rest and it took a large amount concentration and energy, something she did not have in a large amount at the moment. Perhaps I shall try it....

@Eve:

Helli watched Eve with a pair of curious eyes as Eve started to make a series of odd sounds that she had only ever heard produced by animals and other creatures, but certainly not humans. She wondered what Eve's idea was, but waited patiently to see what would happen next. Nothing was too odd to be attempted in order to save her son's life.

As Eve sounded out to the animals, there was a pregnant pause, and the air around them dripped thick with anticipation of the appearance of some form of creature from within the woods. Then, faint scurrying could be heard, and moments later, three kuatus came hopping and skipping in a zig-zagged erratic manner, only to end up at Eve's feet.

One of the kuatus chittered to Eve as Helli watched on incredulously, "Who ... called ... you? Why ... who ... you?"

Eve watched as three adorable squirrels came running to her call and began chattering non-stop.

"Yes, I have called you. Now you must calm down and I will tell you where I have seen a whole bunch of acorns lying around. Now please tell me, have you seen a man wandering alone in these woods in the last few days?"

She looked back to Helli and smiled. "This should only take a moment. But tell me what your son looked like so I can tell them."

The kuatus hopped about excitedly as they heard about the prospect for FOOD. It took them awhile before they all settled down and one of them spoke to Eve again, "Men ... many ... men many! Walking ... here ... there ... everywhere ... forest! Many! Many!"

Helli was about to ask about what was happening, when Eve turned to her, "This should only take a moment. But tell me what your son looked like so I can tell them."

Helli wondered what it was all about with the kuatus, but if it meant getting her son back ... she subsequently started to describe her son excited, "Yes, Yes of course! Lornen's tall, very well-built, my boy he is, dark brown hair, the sweetest brown eyes ever!"

Meanwhile, the kuatus hopped all around Eve excitedly like children hopping around the ice-cream man, "Acorn! Acorn! Acorn! Acorn! Acorn! Acorn! Acorn! Acorn! Acorn!"

"Well, it looks elvish to me, though I do not recognise it," Mina replied.  Then, turning to Kiushapo, she asked, "Can you read it, Kiushapo?"

"We best be getting away from the fringes of the woods, and move on. This is not a good place for three people to be caught unaware of."

"Yes, we'd better get moving.  If that symbol is indeed elvish, it might well have been made by the dark elves that are said to live within the Woods.  And the elf who left it here might still be around."

As she was about to move off, Elric added, "I'm not sure if you want to keep the bark or not ..."

"Well, I suggest we keep it for now.  Perhaps Lieutenant Dorrum or someone else will know what it is."

(OOC: Well, I can't really specify where it's being kept, since Kiu is still holding it.  )

Eve rolled her eyes at the kuatu's, why couldn't an owl have come?, she thought. She just smiled at them waiting for Helli's description.

"Okay, pipe down or no acorns. If you do not cooperate you won't get any acorns, instead you will taste something cold and hard," she said with a smile. "Now, the man we are looking for is tall, muscular with dark brown hair and brown eyes. How many men have you seen like this within the last three or four days?"

If Kuatus could stick out their tongues cheekily, these three would have done so right there right then. But it happens that Kuatus' tongues are a little too short for that, and if they did try to stick out their tongues at Eve in defiance, it would look like they were trying to choke themselves by sucking in deep breaths.

One Kuatu squirked, "Yes! Yes!"

The other two chimed in perfect unison, "Acorn!"

"Many ... four ... five ... here ... there ..."

"Acorn!"

"Two men ... bad men ... rough ... rough ... spit ... here ... there ..."

"Acorn!"

"One man ... nice man ... always around ... friendly! Friendly! There ... there .."

"Acorn!"

"Live there ... walk there ... there ..." The squirking Kuatu nodded its head towards the North.

"Acorn!"

"Nice man ... dark brown hair ... yes ... yes ... brown eyes ... tall ... yes yes ..."

"Acorn! Acorn! Acorn! Acorn! Acorn! Acorn!"
