OOC: sorry if i become really slow...stupid tests...will try to move this along a bit...

IC: "What are these rumors if you don't mind me askin. Have I done something to earn the men hatred?"

Philip chuckled, "No hatred, just suspicion...men are a little wary about newcomers, especially ones that are a little...different than their normal. Catch my reasoning?" He took a mouthful of his drink. "It's just that the men haven't really seen or met...an Eyelian..." His voice hushed and hoarse.

The man took a deep breath and let it out slowly, "I know you have lots of questions but...my eyelids are telling me it is time for some shut eye." The man stretched and firmly laid a hand on Glayron's shoulder. "Everything will seem clearer in the morning. I will answer any questions you might have after breakfast. Until then, Old Man George will show you your quarters."

OOC: A post a day after mine?  That isn't slow....

Glayron nodded.  He hadn't sleep in a place sheltered from the weather for quite some time, having made his own sleeping quarters where ever he traveled.  A change would be well met.

"Then I will hopefully see you in the morning good sir," replied Glaynor.  He waited to be lead to his sleeping quarters, wondering how the sleep may be tonight.

Old man George led Glayron through a mass of tents to a lone cloth structure not too far from the others. Nodding to Glayron, he spoke, "You should get some good rest tonight ... you've worked hard along with the other men!" He gave Glayron a hearty slap on the back as he chuckled.

As he was about to leave, he suddenly scratched his chin and turned to Glayron again, "I heard some of the men say you were Eyelian, that right?"

The time for Fluffy and Cacunai's plot thread will now be 22 Bells.

Cacunai and Yerun kept well back in the shadows. Cacunai was not weary, though it was night and they had just walked quite a ways, because she walked all day every day. However she could not tell in the darkness if Yerun was having difficulties. Over the time it had taken them to get here, Cacunai had doled out small amounts of her provisions every now and then, so the boy would be strong and hale when they got into camp. Cacunai hadn't seen the rodents but once during the trek. The guards seemed to be concentrated in a small area of the camp, probably eating. Now, she turned and knelt before Yerun.

Well my boy, here we are. The forest is near, but the darkness is complete. What do you think we should do now? If we are to go into the camp, you must let me do the talking. Do you know any of these guards? Do they know you?

At the sound of Cacunai's voice Ramblers jumped out of Yerun's pockets. As Fuzzytail and Manymeals landed on the ground, Spaky sprang on them and all three fell on the ground making weird sounds. Even the boy couldn't guess they were laughing.

Manymeals tummy demanded a supper. Or a diner. He haven't had both. *Squrrl? Squqorl?* - he asked the others.
*Squrrl* - nodded Sparky.
"There, look", - Smuggles pointed with her hand at the camp: "We'll find something there".

"Hm, Yerun, you are going to this camp, aren't you?" - asked Fuzzytail.

@Cacunai & Fluffy:

((OOC: What a cute post Fluffy! hehehe ... You two make a great team *grin* Great transition post too Nai! :D  ))

Yerun's skinny frame was deceiving. He was as rugged and hearty as a skilled forest ranger, but he did appreciate Cacunai's provisions, although most of it were snuck into his jacket for the Ramblers. By the time they had arrived at the main encampment, night had fallen and the insects of the night had began their merry chorus all around them.

As Cacunai knelt down before him he peered curiously towards the blazing flames of the guards' campfires, "Well my boy, here we are. The forest is near, but the darkness is complete. What do you think we should do now? If we are to go into the camp, you must let me do the talking. Do you know any of these guards? Do they know you?"

At the mention of "talking", Yerun nodded profusely at Cacunai. Inside he was shouting to himself loudly, Yes, please! Do the talking! At the mention of knowing the guards, Yerun turned to shake his head repeatedly. More than anything, he was quite nervous. All the guards looked like they were ready to start a ferocious brawl any second. Secretly he felt the urge to cling to Cacunai and just hide behind her as they make their way into the camp.

As the Ramblers leapt out of his jacket, Yerun bent down and hushed them protectively. He had grown close to all of them, and was wondering if guards caught rats in the woods and made soup and stew out of them like Omis did. He thought that he should not take the risk of the rats being discovered.

"Hm, Yerun, you are going to this camp, aren't you?"

Yerun glanced nervously around again as he spoked in a low tone to Fuzzytail on the ground, "We ... we should, i don't like the dark ... it might be ... dangerous ... and you tell the others to keep close to me now ... guards can be ... dangerous people ... i think."

So much for that then. You see, if any of the guards knew you to be the kitchen boy, we would have a ready-made excuse to be out here. As it is, I have a plan.

She stood and moved further into the shadows before pulling a few select articles out of her various bags and pouches and pockets, one of them a little skin flask that contained a dye made from cedar bark. Working quickly, she poured a small amount into her hand and worked it into the silver stripe at her temple.

No use showing them my one distinctive feature, eh boy?

(She muttered as she quickly wiped her hand on the damp grass.) Now the silver was muted enough so that in the darkness, or even in firelight, it would be invisible. She then unwound her swordbelt from her waist and stuffed it into the largest pack she carried. All other weapons except her blowpipe were secreted away, her blowpipe taking up residence in the loop-and-hook at her wrist. It was designed so with a flick of her middle finger, she could spin it around to point at an adversary - and it was always loaded.

She then retrieved a flask that looked identical to the other, except to her practiced eye, and uncorked it. This one contained only a few small beads, which she looped into a narrow braid that resided behind her ear. Other bottles that contained powders and a couple of liquids whipped in and out of her pockets, and the finishing touch was a long, hooded cloak with a gaily-patterned fringe that she drew out of the haversack she carried.

There.

Cacunai smiled and raised her face to the boy. The whole process had taken only a minute or two.

Now I am Jalil'sadei, elf of the traveling harlequin. But you know, I was seperated from my troop oh-so-long ago.

Indeed, these subtle changes were applied in such a way that she was almost unrecognizable.

And you are Arkantos, the urchin I picked up off the street. You are my stage boy.

Her grin widened. Soldiers tended to treat hard-luck-gone-by women very kindly, especially if they traveled with children. Mouths to feed, you know. At least that was Cacunai's experience.

"All big people can be dangerous people", - thought all the Ramblers. "Don't worry, Yerun", - said Fuzzytail to the boy: "Rats are hard to see in the dark".

As the elven woman changed her appearance, Ramblers remained untouched by the show. They have seen lots of ma-gick tricks back in Ximax. "Your ma-gick won't fool anyone", - declared Fuzzytail with a face expression that could be called a grin: "You still smell the same!"

@Cacunai & Fluffy:

((OOC: LOL Fluffy!!))

Yerun watched in amazement as Cacunai underwent her "transformation". Even in the darkness of the night, Yerun gaped as Cacunai took on a different persona. He tried to remember the name "Arkantos" ... not that he could ever say it out anyway. He wondered what an urchin was ... definitely not something to eat, he deduced.

Yerun slightly chuckled inside at Fuzzytail's comments. He wondered what an elf smelled like, and he also hoped that Fuzzytail was right, that rats really were hard to see in the dark. Still, he bent down and scooped all the Ramblers one by one into his jacket. He didn't want to have a hard time keeping track of where each one was, and he was sure that Cacunai wouldn't want him to be craning his neck looking out for them here and there when she approached the guards at the camp. He whispered towards the inside of his jacket pocket, "Stay quiet now ... i think we are going to go into the camp with the elf lady. I will get you all something to eat soon."

Ah, but the guards can't smell as well as you, eh my little friend?

Cacunai grinned. She did so love conspiracy!

Anyway, they've never smelled me before. At least, not to my knowledge.

She stood and started to move out from her cloak of darkness, fastening her actual cloak with a small green gem that glowed dimly.

By the way, Jalil'sadei is the singer,

she turned and told the boy and his rodents. She then strode boldly into the firelight, swirling her cloak artfully to create a cover for "Arkantos" to scurry behind her and to create intricately-patterned shadows flicking across her face, illuminating her eyes, which burned brightly.

Sirs, have you a crust to spare for one who is weary?

She called out to the guards, pasting an expression of hunger and exhaustion across her face. Acting was quite a talent of this elf's.

@Cacunai & Fluffy:

Rolalf, a lieutanent at the main encampment, was chewing on a piece of roasted mutton leg with the other guards at a campfire, when suddenly a feminine voice which sounded quite despaired sounded out from the darkness, "Sirs, have you a crust to spare for one who is weary?"

The other guards looked up towards where Cacunai's voice had sounded out from. Rolalf rose from his seat, and walked towards the darkness, and he fainly made out Cacunai's slim figure and the hungry, exhausted expression on her face. Squinting a little harder, he noticed a young boy cringing nervously behind Cacunai.

"Well there, miss, what are you and --" he glanced at Yerun and didn't know what to call him, "-- this boy here doing at this hour of the day? The woods ain't no place for women and children, you know."

We are lost, and we have nowhere to go tonight. We are too poor to seek shelter in the town, and anyway my stage boy here cannot abide crowds.

Cacunai, or rather Jalil'sadei, tipped her head to one side and blinked as if blinded by the light. She kept moving forward, though almost imperceptably, her cloak edge brushing the damp grass. She prayed to Elath ((her goddess)) for the rats  to stay hidden. She really hated doing the whole AIEEEEEEEEE GET ME A CHAIR IT'S A MOUSE routine.

"We are lost, and we have nowhere to go tonight. We are too poor to seek shelter in the town, and anyway my stage boy here cannot abide crowds."

Rolalf took a closer look at Cacunai as she stepped towards the light of the campfires. She did really look al wretched and like she had been starving for days. Grunting in sympathy, Rolalf waved his hand and beckoned for Cacunai to enter into the encampment area, with Yerun nervously trailing behind her.

As Yerun passed Rolalf by, Rolalf thought he saw moving bulges from within the boy's jacket. Narrowing his eyes, he hailed the boy, "Hey, boy! What's that you got with you inside your jacket?"

((OOC: Now for a post from Fluffy :) ))

The time for your plot thread will be 22 Bells.

@Kiushapo & Mina:

((OOC: All of you have just arrived near the main encampment with Elric, and you can't quite make out Cacunai, Rolalf and Yerun's figure yet without getting closer to the encampment site.))

Elric stopped abruptly as they reached the perimeter of the main encampment site. He had been bumping into and tripping over branches, pebbles and tufts of bush all along the way, and he rubbed his various bruises tenderly. Turning towards Mina & Kiushapo, Elric spoke, "Well, this isn't where i was planning to be --" Elric threw what looked like a disgusting look towards the main camp area. " -- but the hour is not getting any earlier, and we should rest and gather ourselves. We should be able to make good time to arrive at Lieutanant Dorrum's outpost tomorrow if we start out early in the morning. So, we stop here for the night, alright?"

"Hey, boy! What's that you got with you inside your jacket?"

Fuzzytail perched out of Yerun's pocket before the boy could answer: "Boo! I am the mighty spirit of the woods! And what I'm doing inside this jacket is not of your concern. But take my advice, stop drinking during your watch. Wine makes you see things that others do not see. Now off with you! By the way, I don't recommend you to tell about talking mice to your friends", - with this words he sprang on the ground and disappeared into the dark.
