You halt in your steps as you notice the extremely odd-looking shack in front of you. It seemed to be made of pieces of wood of all sizes, some still with the leaves on them. As you look closer, you notice what seems to be pieces of animal skin, bark, different tatters of bright coloured fabrics, and even a couple of pots and pans as well as other odds and ends that made up the body of the shack. How it was all held together in one piece to make up the shack, you could only guess.

On both sides of the shack, you notice wild roots and other vegetables growing in coarsely drawn out patches. It was clear that someone lived here and grew their own food. A couple of flat-topped boulders stood close to each other in the immediate vicinity of the shack, and you couldn’t help but comment to yourself how much it looks like it the two boulders were being used as a table and a chair.

The sound of someone singing disrupted your train of thought. It was aged, crackly voice, hardly melodious to the ear, and it was in some sort of language that you did not know.

“Julkoi-yumitro! Gagahulo-yaaaashi! Ninoplatef-shoooooobi! Huhuyuteee …”

Having (somehow) found their way to this little hut, Cacunai and Yerun stood out of sight of the hut, at Cacunai's insistence. Cacunai listened carefully to the warbling (one might call it) but couldn't discern any actual language. She turned to Yerun and spread her hands wide in the age old gesture of "Right, this is as far as my thought train goes. Your turn."

All right, boy, this is it. Now what would you have us do?

Bahran the bear, not the similarly named human, heard a noise in the near distance. His massive head raised up from his dinner, his ears scanning the distance for another noise. When no other noise was detected, he put his muzzle back into the freshly slain carcass of his prey. He proceeded to rip the flesh with his teeth and claws from the dead animal, eating only some of it, slinging the rest onto near by trees.

The bear then heard another noise. This time it sounded like talking, not just walking.
"Bad people come to be mean to crazy lady?" Bah growled under his breath, getting up and standing on only his hind legs. He could now see much farther, since his reared up height was nearly 3 peds. Bahran couldn't see anything, but that was no matter, he was somewhat deep in the forest, and didn't expect to see anyone in there with him. He lowered himself back down onto all fours and scurried over to the edge of the woods, being as quiet as a creature well over 6 pygges could.

Nearing the edge, a couple forms came into view, just out of sight of Kestrel's cottage. Bahran slowly edged his way into the open, eyeing the new-comers warily.

"You not be mean to crazy lady!" The bear growled at the two new people. He had become quite skeptical of travellers in the past few months he had lived with Kestrel. He was still about a dash away from the two, but his booming voice was loud enough to be heard by them.

The time for this plot thread will be 16 Bells.

@Cacunai, Fluffy & Bahran:

It had been a long trek, Yerun was a little weary, his eyes still puffy from his earlier bawl, but finally they had reached an odd-looking shack, and Cacunai seemed to think that they have arrived at where Kestrel was ... or was supposed to be anyway. Looking around, the shack was located quite near to the fringes of the woods, and Yerun felt a really, really odd and indescribable tingle of familiarity inside of him, that was starting to make him nervous.

"All right, boy, this is it. Now what would you have us do?"

Yerun had heard the strange words that seemed to be sung from from within the little shack ... he knew it definitely wasn't animal, and was not too sure that it was a human language that he understood either.

Yerun squeezed a faint smile at Cacunai, trying to express gratitude for bringing him all the way here, and then proceeded to make his way towards the shack, to see who was in there, if it was indeed Kestrel.

When he had taken but 2 steps forward, he heard a loud, snarling growl that boomed from the direction of the forest. "You not be mean to crazy lady!" Yerun gaped as he noticed it was a talking bear. He stood planted to the ground where he was, and looked sideways towards Cacunai, wondering if they should continue stepping forward.

Sparky, who meanwhile wandered into Cacunai's pocket to "have a word" with Fuzzytail, perched out at the sound of the loud voice; so did the mouse. Both shrugged as they saw a huge bear in front of them. A bear! Every animal knew that a bear meant trouble. Bears were huge and lazy and not really tender when you interrupted their sleep. And they loved honey, but that didn't seem to be dangerous. Well, as long as you were not a bee.

Cacunai sighed and closed her eyes, thinking wearily, more talking animals. Will I never be free of them..., that is, before her mind really registered that the voice belonged to a very large specimen of talking animalia. A bear... she slowly turned around, ignoring Yerun's look of questioning. The bear stood in the open, glaring suspiciously at the two human(oid)s.

We aren't going to be... mean... to the, um, crazy lady.... We only want to talk to her.

Strangely, she felt no fear, only faint exasperation and weariness... for which she had no explanation. She tended to be moody, it was true, but she hated magic and all things magical. Except  for song... she loved song.

The bear turned his head a little to glare, as well as a bear can, at the lady-thing that spoke to him.

"Lady-thing not lie to Bahran! Bahran doesn't like to be lied to!" The bear boomed at the small lady-thing. Bahran lumbered over to a few peds away from where she was. He sniffed the air heavily, moving his head around wildly as he did so.

"Lady-thing, you not human! What are you lady-thing?" Bahran of course only had a one tract mind, so he had already forgotten about the act of them trespassing on crazy lady's land.

And Lady-thing doesn't like to be threatened. So I'd show a bit more courtesy if I were you.

Suddenly feeling bold, Cacunai assumed a scolding tone. She knew not why, no, but she simply felt inclined to do it. She laughed sharply at the bear's newest question. If he had never seen an elf, that meant Kestrel was not an elf, if she was the crazy lady of whom the bear spoke. Bahran, apparently. And it was highly that this was so.

I am an elf, Bahran, Bear of the Shivering Woods. I am not one to be trifled with.

Yerun made what sounded like a whimper, and moved slowly and cautiously behind Cacunai. Not only had the bear spoke, but the bear seemed to be angry at them for some reason.

Yerun tried to shrink his body as small as possible with his mind behind Cacunai. Of course, if that was possible than everyone could probably fly and do somersaults in the air while they are at it. But it wasn't of course, and the more Yerun cringed, the more "obvious" he felt to the Bear.

Yerun trembled in horror as Cacunai took a tone of admonishment with the bear. Why would anyone be snappy to a flesh-eating animal three times their size, with sharp teeth and claws to match. If he wasn't as anxious to see Kestrel, Yerun would have just tugged at Cacunai to leave in the first place.

Slinking back even further from Cacunai and the bear, Yerun reached into his pockets and whispered to the Ramblers within, "Maybe one or some of you can sneak into the shack over there, and find out if there's really someone called Kestrel in there ..." He then wondered if rats were afraid of bears, "Please?"

The mighty bear stared down at the lady-thing.

"Elif" The bear growled, he "mouthed" the word a couple times after that.
"Bahran not know what elif is." He stated matter-of-factly, glaring down at the little lady-thing. Bahran did not know what "trifled" meant, but he was pretty sure it was food.

"Why you elifs want to speak with crazy lady?" He growled, regaining his angry demeanor.

"Maybe one or some of you can sneak into the shack over there, and find out if there's really someone called Kestrel in there ..." - said Yerun.

Smuggles and Teapot looked at eachother. Then they looked at the bear outside the pocked. Then at Manymeals who was peacefully sleeping between them both. "Wake up! Wake up!" - they shaked him: "Time to do somethingat at last!"
*Sqrr? Squa?* - said Manymeals.
"Run to that shack and look who's inside it. Then return and say to the boy!" - explained Smuggles: "Now stop sleeping already and go!" - she tried to push him out of the pocket: "And watch out for..." - Manymeals jumped down. "...The bear", - finished Smuggles.

Manymeals ran through the high grass, dodging the occasional beetles and worms. Before him loomed the dark entrance into the shack.

Bahran continued to glare at the small lady-elif. He began to growl something at her, when suddenly, he noticed something small and furry jumped out from behind the small lady-elif.

"Elif has evil mousey!" Bahran shout-growled down at the small woman. He pulled back his enormous paw, as if to strike the small woman. The tremendous bear let out a bellowing roar as he threw his head up into the air.

"Bahran no like evil mousey!" He erupted, as he moved his paw towards the little elif's head, hoping to remove it.

@Fluffy:

((OOC: I will leave the uhm ... interaction between Cacunai and the bear kind of separate to Manymeal's little journey into the shack ;) ))

As Manymeals approached the entrance of the shack, more strange and enthusiastic wordings could be heard from someone or something within the shack. "Klopretyu!! Hanna haana!!! Tiorespiugla!!!"

As Manymeals was about to make his way further into the shack to "investigate", a faint, soft sqritching sound could be heard. It was rat-speak, and the soft, feminine sounding squirth (to a rat anyway ... whatever that meant) sounded out towards Manymeals, "Who are you?"

As Manymeals turned towards the source of the voice uhm ... squeak, he saw the, approaching from within the shack, the elegant shape of a rat covered in snow white fur, with a long, attractive pink tail and shiny sharp teeth.

If Rats had magazines, they would have centrefolds and cover models. If they had centrefolds and cover models, this dainty little female rat would be the multi-fold oogling target of many a rat in lands near and far.

((Hey! My princess! Cool! :number1 ))

Manymeals turned 'round and saw what appeared for him to be a  dother of some ratty god (yeah, rats too have gods). Manymeals took a deep breath

"I.. ahm... uh... Manymeals" - he stood up on his rear legs and tried to bow, but fell down. From the ground he continued: "I'm... ah... On a mission here! Very secret! Very dangerous! I'm a spy, you know. By only speaking to me you bring yourself in great peril!"

@Fluffy:

((OOC: *chuckle*))

The white rat's eyes widened like two exquisite marbles as she heard what Manymeals said, "Spy? Mission? What is that? What are you talking about?" (You have to remember that Ximax rats have unusual intelligence where rats are concerned, but that is not so with common rats).

Before Manymeals could answer though, a sound like distant thunder rumbled throughout the shack, and the floor of the shack trembled at the wave of approaching sound.

The white rat squirkled urgently towards Manymeals, "Come here! To the corner! You have to stay out of her way, or she'll step on you!" The white rat dragged a dazed Manymeals by the tail into her corner, right at the moment when a sandaled foot stomped down from the air, narrowly missing Manymeals.

Two gigantic sandaled feet plodded around for a while with deafening stomping sounds. The two feet moved away after a while, and quiet reigned again, at least in Manymeals and the white rat's corner, the faint sounds of an odd enthusiastic singing drifting around in the shack, "Griolgpoooo! Hutyilopgrf nutrerespolita booooon!! Kevulostreeeee ..."

The white rat looked over Manymeals curiously, "Where do you come from? You are different. I am SmoothFur." SmoothFur flashed her white pearly teeth -- that was a rat's way of smiling a friendly smile.
