Lady Rivya held gloved fingers to her lips, and smiled dazzlingly, unperturbed by Ryldor's words and "outburst". Lady Rivya turned towards the old woman standing by her, and spoke in a pleasant, comforted tone, "My judgement has not failed me." As she looked approvingly at Ryldor. The old woman merely nodded, waiting for Rivya to speak.

Lady Rivya again turned to face Ryldor, still smiling, ever the cultured baronness with finesse and genteel. "Answers you will receive, but there is much to tell, and time is not on our side. You will get answers, some now, some ... along the way." She winked affectionately at Ryldor, and continued on, "You know who i am, we have already been acquainted." She gestured towards the old woman who was gazing at Ryldor critically, "This, is Jothia." The old woman made no motion to move towards Ryldor in introduction.

"Unfortunately, the Princess may or may not be answering questions for the past seven years, like you said. Your loyalties do not lie with the Prince nor the royal family or nobility, and you are not a mere simple merchant, but you are well skilled and ... certainly know how to take care of yourself." Rivya caressed her fingers, "To ... cut to the chase. We suspect the Prince has a part in the disappearance of the Princess. We suspect that Sir Olpeg," she added with dripping sarcasm, "my dearest husband, knows of this and has either assisted the Prince or was part of the reason for the Princess' disappearance as well. The Prince will be arriving in Eresh in a couple of days, as i'm sure you would have heard. We have reason to believe that the Prince is arriving to ... shall we say, tie up some loose ends that he ... not so wisely left astray seven years ago. We fear that if he does so, all chances of finding out what happened to the Princess and maybe even recovering her to safety, will then be lost."

Rivya took a pause, and purred affectionately at Ryldor while looking him intently in the eye. "You, Ryldor dear, must help us. Or, you will be in grave danger."

"…grave danger."After the baroness finished, Ryldor stood and paced around the room, ignoring the women. Why do I keep doing this to myself? It happens every time and still I don't learn. They're probably just playing me. This is it. I'm just going to say "no" and be on my way. He turned back and found Lady Rivya's piercing green eyes upon him. Umm… I guess it'd be rude to just walk out on them. They might really need my help. Besides I'll never become a lord if I walk away from every challenge.

Ryldor walked over the Lady Riyva and place his hands on her shoulders, giving them a gentle squeeze. "Of course I'll help you. You always had only to ask." He pulled away and clapped his hands together and said., "But I still have a few questions. Why am I in danger? And why would the Prince want to make his sister disappear?" Finally he turned to Jothia. "And what is your role in all of this?

The two women watched Ryldor intently as he paced around the room, unsure of what he was going to do, but not taking any steps to restrain him. When he finally stopped, they still had their eyes trained on him.

"Of course I'll help you. You always had only to ask."

Lady Rivya flashed a warm, brilliant smile at Ryldor as he squeezed her shoulder. "And i apologize for our ... method of asking, Ryldor, dear, but you must understand our ... predicament." She took two quick steps towards Jothia, her movements graceful and agile, quite unlike that of a pampered noble woman while dining with Ryldor earlier in the evening.

"But I still have a few questions. Why am I in danger? And why would the Prince want to make his sister disappear?" Finally Ryldor turned to Jothia, "And what is your role in all of this?"

It was again Lady Rivya who spoke, "Why Ryldor, you would be in grave danger because we would kill you, of course." Lady Rivya chuckled heartily, and it wasn't clear whether she was merely jesting, or if she was really serious about killing Ryldor.

After recovering from her little spurt of light-hearted laughter, Lady Rivya spoke up again, this time with a clearly serious tone, "We are not exactly certain, Ryldor, why the Prince would do such an evil thing. But we suspect that he is trying to protect his claim to the throne. You see, King Aprag loved Princess Nalaere deeply. There was much speculation that he would relegate the throne to Princess Nalaere after he stepped down and not to Prince Viginold as has been the tradition for generations. The King also had another daughter which he loved dearly as well, before Nalaere was born, but this first daughter was not a child of the Queen, but a favoured consort of the King. Prince Viginold was never much favoured by the King. When Nalaere disappeared, Prince Viginold started consolidating authority and power with the powerful officials in court, and gathering military strength as well. With the King slipping into senility, it was an easy task. Now the Prince has near absolute authority, and if the Princess was to be found again, and indeed, reveal the Prince's evil deeds, that would probably sway much of the court elders and officials' support against him."

Jothia shrugged slightly as Ryldor mentioned her. Her voice was frail, crackly, but it had a sharp, dangerous edge to it, and when she spoke it gave one the feeling that one was choked at the throat, "I am ... was, the nursemaid of the first Princess. I want to see justice done, and shame brought to the the royal family for their misdeeds."

"Hmmm… If the Prince is heading here himself, it probably means the Princess is still alive. I doubt he'd travel all the way if there weren't a legitimate threat to his power." Ryldor paced a few more seconds before he turned to baroness and said "You do realize that your husband might be one of the loose ends the Prince is coming to tie up. He may be in danger." Not that I'd mind so much, the elf thought as he admired the Lady Rivya's looks once more

Turning to the former nursemaid, "I have to ask. Is it possible the Princess wanted to disappear? Can you think of anything that would have made choose to vanish?"

Ryldor paced a little more, a dull ache reminding him that he hadn't finished healing his leg. I think I'd better be a full strength. He sat in the rickety chair again, but spoke to the women again before casting. "We have little time left. If Sir Olpeg was involved, the quickest way to find out what happened is to get it from him. You know him best lady Rivya. Can you think of a way to get the information out of him? Is he the type to keep everything in his head, or would he have something written somewhere?" As he waited for an answer, he started the healing spell.

"You do realize that your husband might be one of the loose ends the Prince is coming to tie up. He may be in danger."

Lady Rivya chuckled again, the sound of tinkling bells, seemingly enjoying watching Ryldor's pacing strides, "Ryldor, dear, that is the least of our problem right now. Those who trifle with danger, will find themselves consumed within it."

Jothia's expression and demeanour was as morose as Lady Rivya's light-hearted and charming. She gritted her teeth as Ryldor asked her about the Princess, "Disappear? Vanish?!" She rasped in disbelief, "Princess Nalaere was dearly loved by all. If it was not for that scoundrel Viginold, she would never have approached the woods for any reason in the first place!" She muttered under her breath, to no one in particular, "It will be as prophesized, the Kyranian Kingdom will fall! How could it not, in the hands of such bloodthirsty ruthless men!"

Lady Rivya stepped closer to Ryldor as he started healing his leg, watching in quiet fascination. "We have little time left. If Sir Olpeg was involved, the quickest way to find out what happened is to get it from him. You know him best lady Rivya. Can you think of a way to get the information out of him? Is he the type to keep everything in his head, or would he have something written somewhere?"

Lady Rivya smiled, gently running a finger lightly on Ryldor's leg, "You are right that we have little time. We are expecting the Prince to be arriving tomorrow after noonday." She paused, then continue, lifting her finger and stroking her hair, "I have tried my best to find out what my darling husband knows. He knows much of the things that don't matter, and too little of things that do. But, being in his position has allowed me ... shall we say, access to certain channels of ... information and ... service." Lady Rivya smiled secretively, and reached out a folded letter from within the folds of her supple bosom, handing it to Ryldor, "This is a sealed letter addressed to the Prince. Recently he delegated a ... task to Olpeg. The Prince seems extremely anxious in his trip, and he has declined our offer for a dinner in his honour, and will instead head straight to meet with Captain Gavrin at the main encampment upon arrival. You will travel to the main encampment tomorrow, an escort of the Princess Arialle, and you will have an audience with the Prince and hand him this letter. Princess Arialle will brief you further on the way to the woods tomorrow. Now, you, and both of us must rest. I suggest you stay away from the Rusik and Bretha's henchmen. You may spend the night here, in Jothia's cottage, she has prepared a room for you."

Lady Rivya placed a smooth, soft palm atop of Ryldor's, an alluring smile lit up on her face, "Any questions?"

"Any questions?" Ryldor asked with a chuckle. "Only about a hundred. Why don't we just open the letter and see what is says? How does Olpeg think this letter is getting to the Prince? Who is Princess Arialle?  Won't she realize that I'm not actually her escort? What am I supposed to do once I get into the woods?" Ryldor thought about asking more, but opted to sleep instead.

After his questions were answered, he made his way to the room Jothia prepared and slept.

Jothia was starting to show a tinge of annoyance on her face when Ryldor started to direct a whole new slew of questions at Lady Rivya. But Lady Rivya merely smiled, almost benevolently, replying to Ryldor in a leisurely tone.

"The letter must not be opened of course, because it is forged. So is the seal. The seal must remain unbroken to render the letter ... authenticity." She chuckled, a light tinkling laugh, "Sir Olpeg, for all his loyalty and wits, is not one would call a bright man. You shall be ... disguised in the morning before setting out for the woods. I trust it will be sufficiently adequate to conceal your identity. Princess Arialle is the eldest Princess, the daughter of the King's favoured consort. Both mother and daughter were sent to Eresh out of harm's way from a Queen murderous with hatred and envy. There will be swift steeds from Captain Gavrin of the Royal Guards for you and Princess Arialle tomorrow morning. Do not worry about the situation at the encampment, i will have the necessary arrangements made for them to be expecting your arrival. Princess Arialle will brief on you on the rest and what must be done in the morning, before you leave for the encampment. She will hardly be surprised to see you, she knows all."

Lady Rivya smiled once more, blowing a soft kiss towards Ryldor, "And now, Ryldor, dear, you should be getting some good rest. It will certainly be quite a day for you tomorrow. Needless to say, we are extremely appreciative and grateful for your consent and help."

The time for this plot thread is currently 7 Bells, Day 3.

At the break of dawn Ryldor was awoken by Jothia, the expression on her face rested, and more kindly than the previous night. Both elf and old woman dined on a simple breakfast without much exchange of words or talk. Then Jothia handed Ryldor two flesh coloured bits of soft putty, which she explained should be smoothed over the pointed ends of Ryldor's ears, to mask the fact that Ryldor was an elf. A sliver of what seemed to be dark hair was also produced by Jothia, and carefully smoothed over Ryldor's upper lip with strong paste, and now Ryldor was a tall, handsome human with a stiff moustache.

Then Jothia reminded Ryldor to keep the letter that Lady Rivya had handed to him the night before, bade him good luck, and gave him instructions to proceed, "The steeds and the accompanying guards from the Captain will be arriving soon. Head over to the cottage next door on your right. Knock five curt knocks on the door, announce your full name and say that you are Lady Arialle's escort just arrived from Ximax. The princess will know what to do then."

Ryldor opened his eyes slowly, hoping that the last two days had been some sort of ale induced dream. No such luck. Fortunately, Jothia seemed to have warmed up a little, and though breakfast was mostly silent, the animosity he'd felt the previous night was gone. He sat patiently as the old woman applied the disguise.

Checking that the letter was secure in his pocket, he left Jothia's and approached the correct cottage. He knocked five times and said loudly, "This is Ryldor Gadriel, Princess Arialle's escort, arriving from Ximax."

"This is Ryldor Gadriel, Princess Arialle's escort, arriving from Ximax."

There was a brief, pregnant pause which seemed that nothing stirred in the early hours of the morning, and Ryldor was about to knock the door and announce his name once more when the front door of the cottage creaked open.

A pair of brilliant emerald eyes were upon him. It was a young, tall shapely woman clad in travelling garb, her luscious crimson curls framing exquisite features. She peered uncertainly at Ryldor, "You are ... Ryldor Gadriel?" and then her gaze fell momentarily on the stiff moustache that adorned Ryldor's upper lips, and gave a slight smile, "Jothia never seems to run out of those," referring to the moustache, " ... then you are indeed Ryldor Gadriel, you have my gratitude for consenting to aid us." She gave Ryldor a dainty curtsy, "I am no Princess ... not anymore. Please, just address me as Lady Arialle in the presence of others."

She quietly stepped out of the cottage, and locked the door behind her. Looking around her to make sure no one was around, Arialle turned to Ryldor again and spoke in a hushed tone, "Time is short. I'm supposed to tell you of what must be done once we reach the main encampment. You are a mage, they tell me, i'm sure you must have schooled at Ximax. Have you ever heard of Caradol the Wise, Archmage of the White Tower?"

"Lady Arialle it is. And if I can be of any other assistance after these trying times, please don't hesitate to call on me." he said with a bow. Blasted beautiful women. Was this town specifically created to get me into trouble?

Did she say… "Caradol? Of course I heard of him. He took office while I was there." Ryldor blurted out, all pretense of him not being a mage gone. "Incredibly powerful, of course. Said to be very kind, but also very odd. Eccentric." He realized he was rambling a little and stopped. "I'm even more confused now and I don't think that's possible. What does Caradol have to do with this?"

"I'm even more confused now and I don't think that's possible. What does Caradol have to do with this?"

Arialle seemed to brighten up a little, smiling faintly as she looked at Ryldor, and began to explain further, "I don't know much of Caradol as a mage in Ximax, all i know, is that he has been a wise and loyal advisor to the Royal Family for many years." She glanced around once more, and took a deep breath.

"Seven years ago when Prince Viginold insisted on visiting the Shivering Woods for his 18th birthday, he requested the company of Princess Nalaere, who was then 11, and along with his royal entourage was Caradol. Against everyone's warnings, pleas and advice, the Prince demanded to enter the woods, along with the Princess. Of course a group of Royal Guards were sent along with the Prince and Princess, but from what was narrated by the guards after, the Prince and Princess somehow managed to get lost within the woods, and not long after the Prince came running out of the woods screaming in fear, and the Princess was no where to be found."

Lowering her voice, Arialle leaned in closer to Ryldor, "Yesterday Caradol arrived and sought shelter with us. I could not believe the words that came forth from him, as he told me that he had overheard a conversation that convinced him the Prince had somehow arranged or planned the disappearance of the Princess. Against the Prince's wishes, he left from the capital to Eresh, and now the Prince suspects that Caradol has unearthed the truth, and wants him back. Caradol is determined to enter the woods and try to sought out the Princess --"

Before Arialle could continue on, the figures of men and horses appeared in the distance. Arialle hurriedly turned to Ryldor, "The Prince has entrusted Sir Olpeg with the task of finding and reining in Caradol. You ... are a little youthful, but Sir Olpeg has supposedly "hired" the services of a mage from Ximax. Lady Ryva has arranged an audience with the Prince and the Captain for you. You must hand the letter to the Prince and then --"

A tall guard clad in the uniform and insignia of the Royal Kyranian guards had now stepped up besides Ryldor and Arialle, causing Arialle to abruptly go quiet. Behind the guard were two empty horses led by another guard. It was apparently for Ryldor and Arialle.

The tall guard made a slight bow and greeted Arialle respectfully, "Lady Arialle, the Prince awaits."

Ryldor carefully listened to the latest version of the kidnapping and Arialle's plans for the Prince, while his mind tried to assimilate what he was being told. Why would the Prince have just killed the Princess if he wanted her to disappear? Why go through all this trouble with the woods? And what could Caradol have discovered now after seven years?

Arialle was trying to complete her instructions when the guards arrived. Blasted women. Now what? Does she want to kill the Prince? Pick his pocket? Find him a companion for the evening? I suppose I'm the mage from Ximax Sir Olpeg has hired, but for what? He decided to try arrogance on the guards. "Well let's be quick about it. You've kept us waiting long enough," he said with a dismissive wave. The mage looked down his nose at the guard as if he were something that might sully his jacket. "And remember your place. Lady Arialle and I have important private matters to discuss. Matters obviously not for your ears. You will keep a respectful distance at all times on the journey."

Finally, he turned back to Lady Arialle and said "The Prince awaits. Shall we go?

((OOC: Very lordly indeed Ryl hehehe ...))

The guards were quite taken aback by Ryldor's tone and attitude towards them. All they had been told was they had to carefully escort Arialle back to the main encampment, as well as to receive a powerful mage that had just arrived from Ximax as per the invitation of Sir Olpeg. They supposed that powerful mage would have reason to be so ... arrogant, but Ryldor looked ... a tad bit young. Still, they decided that it was better to be on the safe side.

Ryldor and Arialle were assisted in mounting the horses, and then Arialle continued with her instructions to the disguised elf under the watchful gazes of the guards from a distance.

((OOC: Need to discuss the next upcoming parts & the plans with you ... to iron out some details and stuff ... talk to you on IRC ...))
