The eagle screeched again.  The magnificent bird stretched its wings and displaced the air under it, rising even higher above the treetops that were already mere specks below it.  Its golden eyes looked down at the figure running through the forest below it.

Aiyana raced through the forest, every so often flicking her eyes to the bird above her.  She jumped from a fallen log through a bush, the grasping branches barely grazing her.  She took another step and sunshine flooded her eyes, her pupils condensing to compensate for the sudden outburst of light.  A large, grassy clearing stood in front of her.  She laughed and let out a piercing call.  The eagle flew down and perched on her welcoming arm.

"A suitable place for camp?"

The eagle cooed and slightly ruffled its beautiful wings.  Aiyana chuckled.

"Go find food."

She thrust her arm forward, and the eagle took off, soaring out of sight within seconds.  Aiyana paused for a moment, then set out.

She collected dry wood, twigs and leaves in the forest, dumping them in a small pile just inside the clearing.  After an ample pile was collected, she sat down.  She arranged the larger twigs in a cone shape, their tips touching.  In the cone, she piled brush and leaves.  She then struck her dagger against a small rock, sparks flying.  One of the sparks caught to the brush, and she immediatly blew slightly.  The spark caught and become a small flame, eventually spreading to the rest of the kindling.  As the blaze started to grow, she opened a small backpack and took out four iron prongs which she arranged in a square around the fire.  She then took out a blackened animal hide and stretched it over the fire, about a peg above the flickering flames.  She then sat back and tended to the fire, poking it every so often with a long stick.

She had always had a fascination with fire.  How it seemed so impossible, that visible heat could flicker so easily.

Her thoughts were interrupted by Talyn.  He came swooping down, sailing past Aiyana's face.  She circled again, then slowly glided towards Aiyana.  He dropped a small wild pig into the elf's ready arms.  She laughed.  He had overdone it again.  He only did it for her praise, which she lavished upon him.  He came to a rest on Aiyana's thigh and nipped her ear affectionately.  Aiyana chuckled again, and stroked Talyn's head feathers and whispered praise into the bird's listening ear.

Aiyana sat up and started skinning the carcass and preparing it for cooking.  Soon it was ready, and she used a sharpened stick to roast it over the fire, the other end supported by a pronged log.  She spotted another such log, almost the same hight, and grabbed it without letting go of her dinner.  She propped up her end of the stick, then sat back, waiting for that familiar smell.

There was suddenly a noise.  She sat up, reaching for her bow and notching an arrow.  She stood up, aiming at the source of the noise.

"Up," she whispered to the great eagle.  He took off.

"Who's there?"

This is an opening for anyone who wants to to join me for dinner and eventually the mission.

I wonder if it was that great an idea to get involved with that merchant. Ripp pondered.

The forest was beautiful but, he wished he was back at sea.  Ripp stood out easily in the greens and browns of the woods in his blue robes.  His pale blond hair tied into a ponytail bouncing with every step.  From near a century at sea his eyes had no color but a small black pupil.

Eva, his Cyhalloian Slinker, trotted next to him.  A shadow passed quickly through a break in the trees.  Eva gave a startled chirup and dove under a tree.

"Ah, tis but a shadow dear.  Don't be cowardly." Ripp chided her, leaning on his Efryst.

Then titlting his head back he sniffed deeply, "Smoke, maybe where we're supposed to meet that merchant.  Setting off at a quick pace he pushed through the brush and heard,

"Who's there?"

"Ripp Dide, former captain of the Sea Wyrm, Water Druid, member of the Sanhorrhim elven tribe, and presently in the service of a merchant fellow I met on the trail a day or so ago.  Asked for some help guarding a caravan. And this," he gestured to Eva, "is Eva.  And you have yet to introduce yourself, pray tell, what's your name?"

Aiyana lowered her bow.

"I am Aiyana Xanthe.  And that..."

She pointed to the eagle.

"Is Talyn."

She paused.

"And what are you doing in this forest?"

She'd been walking for what seemed like days. Moving from one town to the next, one forest to the next.  And it always seemed to result in the same thing: Nothing.

It was truly amazing.  For countless amounts of years, there was nothing but work, and things to be done, but for some reason, a lull of bad things seemed have settled over the country.  Which was excellent in so many ways, but it still left Elraralia more bored than ever.

Wandering passed what seemed like the bazzilionth tree,  although she loved them, they had lost there appeal long ago.  In fact, the whole "On her ownedness" had lost it's apeal as well, although she would never admit that.

Suddenly, her nose picked out a sent, that was different from the ones that she had been smelling for days now...something, that smelled like...smoke?  And roasted meat?

Panicking, at the thought of the forest burning down, she began to run twords the smell, praying that the forest was indeed not on fire.  Never stopping to wonder why she was running twords the could be forest fire.

Suddenly, she also began to pick up the sounds of voices, and stopping, she peaked her head past the tree, and took in the surroundings, before pulling her head back, unsure of what to do..

Aiyana held up her hand to the druid and cocked her head.

"Someone's here."

Talyn swooped low, cawing loudly.

"Two in a night...something's up," Aiyana breathed.

She notched her bow again.

"Who's there?"

"As I said before I am currently working a merchant type, Crestus something..., about to set off on a trade route with his caravan.  He had asked for guards and I volunteered my services.  You havn't seen anyone like that have you?"

When Aiyana threw her hand up towards him he took a startled step back. "Someone's here"

Then that Baveras be damned bird started cawing.  Looking over his shoulder he too saw a faint rustle in the brush.  Drawing her bow the elfess demanded to know who was hiding.

"Do you always go pointing that thing at people?  You're gonna put someone's eye out." Ripp said slightly exasperated.

Walking over toward where the disturbance had been he moved the brush aside with his chain staff.  Seeing a flash of red hair duck behind a tree he walked over to see another elf.  Very unusual to see so many elves out and about for from their homelands.

"Oh, hello." he said grin on his face"Hmmm with hair like that you must be a...Tethinrhim, right?"  Without waiting for an answer he called back to Aiyana,  "Don't fret its just..."  He turned back to the woman, "Your name miss?"

Still in mid disiscion about whether to move on, or to make he precense known, it was announced for her.  The elf of the group in the clearing heard her, but then again, what was to be expected?  She was an elf.

Suddely, and face appeared in the bushes next to where she stood

"Oh, hello.  Hmmm with hair like that you must be a...Tethinrhim, right?" said the face, grinning, and turning around, called to the elf behind him "Don't fret its just..Your name miss?"

Stepping out from behind the tree, she saw an arrow in her face, and in a flash, hers was notched, and in the face of the holder.

"Elraralia..Horfiwiel.  And yes, I am Tethinrhim..is this the way you greet people here?  If so, I would have stayed home." she said gesturing to the arrow in her face

Aiyana blushed slightly.

"I am truly sorry, but one cannot be too careful in these forests, especially at nice."

She lowered her bow, sliding the arrow back into its quiver.

"My name is Aiyana.  This is Talyn."

At his name, the eagle swooped slightly, showing off his beautiful wings to the trio.

"Dont mind him."

She suddenly remembered her food and rushed back to the covered fire, lifting the meat off the fire, keeping it above the ground using the same pronged sticks she had used earlier.

"Would you two care to join me for some dinner?"

Placing her arrow back into the quiver as well, Elraralia smiled at the bird.  If there was one thing that could make a situation better, it was animals.

About to decline the offer for food, Elraralia's stomach gave a loud grumble, and she gave in.

"If it's not to much trouble..." she said sitting down
"So what brings you to this neck of the woods?  You guys are the only speaking creatures that I've seen in days."

Ripp nodded vigerously, "If you don't mind I would love to have some fo that pork."  Unsheathing a small belt knife he gestured to the roasted wild pig.  "I'll serve myself if it's not a problem."

"No problem," Aiyana chuckled, smiling.

Maybe these two will stay...

"As for why I'm in the forest, well, I'm here because I want to be.  I wander, and my traveling has brought me here."

In an instant, Aiyana had pulled out a dagger, twirling it expertly while examining the meat.

"Would you like me to cut the meat for you?" she asked, gesturing towards Elraralia.

"It's fine, I'll get it" Elraralia relpied, and taking out her dagger, cut a slice for herself, before sitting back down again.

"A wanderer eh?  A partner in the trade I see.  I'm a wanderer as well.  Seems thats what most people are doing now adays..and you.." she said pointing to the male of the group "I don't belive I ever got your name, so for now it's you." she said grinning slightly "What brings you to these woods?"
