William surveyed the area that the rebels had just taken over. Those who were left behind had stormed the front gate after learning that most of the soldiers would be occupied with Julia, Karla, Severine, and the others. There was enough guards to stand watch...but not enough to defend themselves from the Freedom Hawk's wrath. With those outsiders on their side, both William and Yullius knew that they would have a chance in reclaiming their village. A few of their men was injured, but they had enough to still go on.

William walked over to Yullius, who was staring out at the center of the village up ahead. some of the soldiers escaped and ran towards that area.

"Everything okay?" William asked his commander, who was quiet for most of the time after the battle.

"I have this feeling...a feeling that Marlus is a little more prepared than we think."

"What do you mean?"

"Doesn't it seem odd that Blackwine didn't have that many men guarding the gate...when knwing that there would be rebels outside of the village. A man like him would expect an attack from the outside. He know that we wouldn't be that dumb to ahve all our people in one area. We would divide our forces. One from the inisde...and one from the outside even though all of this happened by chance.

"So you're saying that he has some kind of trumpt card?"

Yullius turned around, and looked William in his eyes. "If so...then we should all be careful..."

Grimjaw looked on as the battle began in earnest just outside the village square.  Shouts and the clash of steel rang in the air.  The rebels had crawled out of the woodwork, slunk out from places hidden to meet their doom.  They were, of course, outnumbered but the rebels fought with a fierceness of men and women who had nothing left to lose...

Earlier, as the troops were moving out of camp, he'd watched as Commander Blackwine spoke with Hagitha, leader of The Death Riders.  Grimjaw was not surprised to see Blackwine backhand the woman so hard she was knocked flat on her back in the dust.  Though reeling from the blow, Hagitha was back on her feet in a flash, and in her wisdom she ordered her shocked and angered calvary to stand down.  Grimjaw knew if Blackwine sent you out on a mission, you'd better return successful or die trying.  Now Hagitha knew that too.

The troops had marched on center of the village on two fronts- from the northeast and the northwest- holding the third troop in reserve.  The latter had circled around beyond the orchard and only awaited the signal to advance.  Next, Grimjaw expected whatever opposition hiding in the inn would come spilling out at any time.  He brought the signaling horn to his lips... as soon as he spied the first horse's approach, his orders were to call in the last troop, to close the loop of the noose...

The day, which had started out sunny, was growing overcast with a light-gray blanket of clouds.  The dimness threw a gloomy pall over the entire village, and the cooler air was heavy with tension.  The curfew was in full force... yet already three villagers were caught slinking around on road and field only to meet a swift end at the hands and blades of the roving patrols.  The sluggish breeze was tainted with the scent of innocent blood...

After the woman, Kim, had left the room, Phiona turned to look out the window again.

She pulled the curtain to the side just in time to see a small host of riders galloping past and kicking up dust- all black of armor and dreadful to behold- feathered, tattooed, and beaded hair streaming back as they rode forth... and even their weapons were tipped in dripping black death!

The riders cleared her view, and Phiona saw yet another host of calvary, although this one, to her eyes, was even more grim for they wore the uniform of Blackwine's own company from the Royal Army of Santhala, though she suspected that they were no longer loyal to the crown.   At their head was Marlus, astride a powerful roan stallion.  He wore a suit of silver and red armor, though even from this distance she could see the shimmer of magical aura surrounding him.  Phiona knew the armor was only for show, that he was protected primarily by the power of Iniquitus.  As if he sensed she was looking his way, Marlus turned his head toward her, raising his black blade in a salute to her.  Whether he mocked her, she did not know,  but she did not duck out a view.

Phiona decided she would never run in fear from Marlus again, even if it meant her death.  But instead, as she watched him command his loyal riders, Phiona devised another plan...

*Dray's eyes widened a little as the 3 mercenaries stated they were Centurians...people from Dray's homeland. He knew of the fighting ability of that army and was glad to have a few more people on their side. Dray could sense a tense silence in the air...and the day outside started to turn to gray...Death was in the air Dray could feel and taste it...and he didn't like it one bit*

"Dray:Whatever we do we need to be ready and do it fast...I have a bad feeling...the air smells of death and foretells what is to come"

*Dray turns his gaze to the window and stands his fingers wraped about his sword hilts and his brow furrowed in concentration...trying to call on his magic so that maybe it won't fail him now*

Kim stormed back in to Marlus's office and slammed the door.Stupid Girl Kim thought then sighed in resignation. She was begining to regret taking this job on. It would pay well but was it worth it when it meant going against a man like Marlus.

She should be getting instructions soon but when and what was she supposed to do here. She was an assasin a good one to but here she was on a job that didn't mean much killling at the moment. Most of all she wanted to kill Marlus. The way he had looked at her made her want to give him a taste of what one of the Dark Priest sect could do. But she had been told to wait it out.

Opening the door she decided to get some air. If Phiona wanted to tell her anything she would have to come and find her. Walking outside she stood against the wall and closed her eyes.

Sighing to himself, Severine stared out of one of the windows. He saw that many of the mercenaries were closing in. Much faster than expected. The leftover rebels were being slain like sheep sent to be slaughtered. He needed to come up with a plan fast, and everyone was now looking up to him as if he was some kind of leader. Ever since this journey started, it has been that way. He didn't ask for it...all he really wanted to do was travel the world...and find this Ivory Fox character. But these people needed help. They needed to be free from the grasp of someone like Blackwine. Even if he didn't have any military experience...those who trained him did.

As Severine started to think, the power of the Sword of Halo was calling out to him again.  This time, he concetrated hard to respond to it...or atleast find a way to. The voice this time was familiar...but it wasn't his father's. Opening up his eyes, Severine started examining the area. Seeing that more and more people in the tavern were starting to lend a hand in their despair (after all, they figured that they would die anyway), Severine began to smile a bit. A plan started to come across his mind...and if the gods looked kidnly upon them...they could win...or atleast weaken the opposing forces to a great extent...

*Dray sees the smile cross the face of the man called Severine*

"Dray:Well it looks like he has an idea....thats the only thing a smile like that could mean"

*Dray cracks his own smile as he hears the fighting rage closer*

Looking Severine in the eye, Elraralia studied him for a moment.  He seemed to have gotten himself under control, although how that rapid transformation occured, she wasn't sure.   Satisfied that he was not going to dash off that very second though, she finally asked
"So, what are we going to do? You're the leader of this outfit, what do you propose?" she said a bit quietly.  And then looking at the expectant faces around her, she shook her.  How on earth had she come to be with such a rag tag group?  And were they really up for the fight of their life that was slowly drawing nearer?

Severine walked to the middle of the room. There wasn't one person that didn't have their eye on him. That was perfect for him. With a voice that was his own, but yet sounded much differently, Severine asked in a commanding voice "How many of you can use bows in this room?"

As men (and a few women) raised their hands slowly, Severine began to count their hands, he saw that it was enough. "Alright, I'm going to need tables placed infront of every window, turned on their sides! I want an archer by each table! There should be enough bows and arrows. I'll need several archers on the second floor. In every room that has a window showing the army that is approaching us. that should slo them down a bit. If we stay in here...they'll try to burn the place down. so we'll need out fighters to go out and meet them. I'll need the arechers not to waste their arrows too much. Just take out who you think are the main officers...or atleast those who will start to overwhelm our men. I'll lead a few men outside the front door as a distraction. I'll need two groups attacking from both sides. That'll make the enemy think we have more men then it seems. I'll need the archers to attack at the same time...it'll make the enemy think there are more archers than they think. With that, we should be able to hold them off. Enough for me to cut the head of the snake..."

Seeverine's eyes narrowed. He figured Marlus would be around watching his so-called 'victory' from afar. It was just a matter of getting cloe enough...

*Dray smiles at the plan...very well formed*

"Dray:Well good idea....I will come with you outside *Dray draws his swords* May the blood shed today be for good cause and may the gods look down on us today and help us deliver the people from this evil that constrains them. Servine my swords are yours"

*Dray kneels on one knee and bows his head as he looks up he smiles at the man and lets out a hardy laugh*

"Ardan:lets show them no fear as that is what they will try to use against us is fear...this may be the end for some of us...but let us go out loud and laughing..throw them off guard and let their arrogance turn into fear of us...those who fight with nothing left to lose!"

Luca, who had somehow managed to sneak behind the counter of the bar and help herself to a few drinks while the tender was readilly distracted, popped her head over the rim of the counter, the neck of a bottle perched comfortably between her lips.

"Hai nu," she began, spitting the bottle out and reiterating, "Hey now. I'm no soldier in an army or a merc on the shelves. I am a free woman and nobody's about to tell Luca what to do!"

With a huff, Luca stood and turned to walk away (but where the thief had plans to go was yet to be decided) but tripped over the tavern cat, dropping a bottle of whiskey over the poor puss.

"Er..." Luca began, but her face lit up as an idea squirmed it's way into her mind. "On the other hand, I think I'll join the archers upstairs if you don't mind."

Listening to the Shender speak, it slowly began dawn on Elraralia that this was going to be a battle to the death.  As intimidating as it sounded, she shrugged it off.  If it was time, it was time, not much she could do to stop it.  And at least she would go down fighting, and now was the time to organise that fight.

"Alright!  Archers!  I'm sure you already know this, but aim for the upper neck.  And the less arrows used, the better.  If you run out, take out your sword, or find some more.  But I don't want to see more than two arrows used on a person.  If you don't hit them by the second try, don't bother, they aren't worth it.  And don't get yourself shot in the process, we need all of you..lets do this!" she called to the archers around her, as they began to pile up the tables.  Going to the table nearest the door, Elra quickly strung her arrow, and peaked over.  Who was to be the first lucky one to die? Picking a rather imposing man, who apeared to be about to go through the door, she aimed high, and let loose.  A look of surprise came over his face as he dropped dead, a look that would stay there forever.

Watching Elraralia organize some of the archers, Luca smirked. No way this thief was going to be shown up by some carroot-topped tree hugger.

Luca herded a handful of archers around her, and gave them some detailed instructions: "You heard the man! Go upstairs and do your thing!" she said. At first, the archers seemed hesitant of listening to a young woman who appeared half drunk, but as Luca's hand slipped casually down to her daggers, the men were upstairs in a flash.

As the first twangs and swishes of battle reached the half-elf's ears, Luca dashed behind the counter and began clearing the shelves of every bottle, flask or skin that contained liquid. Blinded by a stack of spirits, the thief hopped up the stairs and turned for the room nearest the battle.

She gently put down the hoard and picked up a bottle. After weighing the thing with her hand, Luca wound back and tossed the bottle end over end into the battle. The ale smashed a man in the face and temporarily blinded a comrad behind him. Several others let fly from the inn window, opposing soldiers slipping and sliding as the road turned to, as Luca later referred to it as, mud with a punch.

Severine was surprised at himself. He felt like himself, but not completely. as he walked towards the door with Dray, Penrith, and the Centuarurians, Severine ordered Ripp to take men on the left side, and Eryk to take men on the right. They felt like his words...but Severine felt that he was only saying them...for someone else. Arriving outside, Severine saw soldiers riding up to them. Drawing the Sword of Halo, and feeling its power, he's eyes narrowed at the men that he was soon to kill.

"I would advise for you all to get ready...we're going to be in for a long one."

Sitting tall in his military saddle, astride a pure white warhorse, Marlus ordered half his calvary forward and held the rest back for a second charge.   He knew that The Death Riders had circled around the center buildings and would begin their charge at any moment... and at that point the rebels would be crushed as if in a vise.

The rebels were starting to emerge from the inn.  There was fighting  near the stables and on two other sides of the large building.  Just then, Grimjaw sounded the horn and the first wave of men ran forward with a great shout.  Marlus smiled, the thought of so much death in so little time sent delicious shivers through him.  Blackwine drew Iniquitus and gazed into the star-filled, ebony blade.  To the sword he murmured, "Soon... soon."
