"Tried to do me in is more like it. Got hisself knocked in the water, pulled me in with him and done got hisself drowned." Niccoli shut the pack again quickly, rolling the hide around the entire thing and slinging it over his back. "Yeh talk to much for yer own good little one. Don't yeh need to breathe?" Niccoli looked around the dirty alleyway. "Tell yeh what, I'll tell you my name if we get out of here and under cover right quick before standing around jawing like an old fishwife calls down the wrath of Co'or or worse, the city watch, on me head. Niccoli did not get along well with lawmen the likes of which the city's guard would be populated. Too honest, you couldn't get off from an honest man, couldn't bribe him either.

Mika and Softly rode through the initially relatively quiet streets of the poorer southern district, keeping to the main road street, following it as it went right, slowly hooking left. As it straightened, he could see how the street would slowly became more and more pressed. He shook his head and dismounted. Time to do two of the things he preferred not to, with a practiced flick the reins sailed over the top of Softly's ears and dangled down in front of the mare. He let them dangle down for a moment as he undid the scarf at his neck, it was too hot for it anyway.

He tucked it away into one of the saddle bags and rubbed her nose before taking her reigns and leading her down the straight street. Mika had a pet dislike of hustle and bustle, the sudden jarings and bumps of narrow streets, or overcrowded markets but they were necessary he knew. Slowly he entered the Main Plaza, the Town hall to his right he imagined, it was notable from the building in the ways that only administration can be. To his left as he looked around the building was a shrine, and from the statues it must be to Queprur, he imagined. He walked to one side of Lison lane and patted her flanks, 'I dont suppose you could ask for directions could you darlin'? ' He thought before looking out to the milling crowds, even with the sun this high.

He was fairly certain that there would be a number of inns and taverns in this part of town, it would just be a case of finding one that would stand him in good order. He smiled, a town like this would have its runners and errand boys, if he waited here, he was sure his kilt or Softly, standing at a good 5 fores and of uncommon breed around these parts, would soon gather at least one young onlooker.

The stranger and his mount did not draw the attention of merely one youngsters, but a small troop of them - six, to be exact. They were teenagers of various ages, on their way to The Black Makaka inn for some sport and prowling, mainly out of boredom.

The stranger's dress and horse were somewhat eye-catching, and one of the lads tapped their assumed leader on the shoulder and pointed.

The leader, a lanky, thick-armed boy with fair hair to the point of whiteness - he may have been a Centoraurian himself - caught sight of the stranger and strode towards him, his five companions tagging along like a pack of stray dogs, all eyes and ears and hungry expressions.

"Ya noo 'ere?" the teenager asked. The others, four boys and a girl with enough scars on her face that she was a little frightening, circled the man loosely, again somewhat like a pack of wary curs. There was nothing overtly threatening in their behaviour, yet there was something unmistakably predatory about it.

The small troop of youths spotted Mika before he spotted them, 'ah quite a few, but it cannot be helped' he thought to himself before changing from his usual slightly bemused look to watch the one who was obviously the leader. He studied him as he would study and small herd of horses, watching which ones seemed to step back allowing others room essentially showing submissive behaviour, and the young girl and her relationship with the leader. As they grew closer he made sure that he was near to Softly but wasn't penning her in against the wall, he didn't want anyone trying to get behind him. A most likely un-needed manoeuvre, but the crowds had made him edgy and there was a need to be cautious, he was after all a stranger in a strange city. The youths were most likely used to fighting, the female obviously so. He imagined that she had had to earn her place in the herd harder than some of the other males.

His left hand rested on the waist band of his kilt, the other holding the quarter staff near his shoulder, his cavalry sabre secured against his bed roll on the back of the saddle. Softly turned her head to look down at the youths that had started to cluster around Mika, not overly interested but still waiting for the promised water and brushing. As they started to fall in around him, neatly starting to encircle him he took a moment to study the young leader with the bleached mane, with whom it was possible that he shared some common heritage, although the youngling may not have known his sire. He cast a wary eye over one of the youths to his left just as the leader spoke.

"Ya nooo 'ere?" the teenager asked him. Mika looked him square in the eye and nodded with a grunt, this close the youth would have been able to see the mass of scar tissue that covered his adams apple which had all but destroyed his ability to speak, as well as the numerous scars that crossed like lightening over the tattoo's visible on his arms. 'And now the hard part' Mika thought to himself as he tried to think of the best way to sign to the youth. He raised his left hand and pointed with two fingers at the leader, then slowly raised his hand to tap the side of his head before cupping an imaginary tankard in his hand and drinking from it. He wondered how quick the lad would catch on or wether he'd still be there come nightfall.

Nickal sized up the man, taking in his stance, his horse, and his scars: scars said a lot about a fella, or a lass, as in Corbie's case (her right name she had told no one). So when the stranger did not speak, but pantomimed drinking, Nickal did not snicker along with some of his comrades - he was too canny for that.

Fortunately for the stranger, drinking and carousing were on the minds of the pack, and while the wariness remained, the strutting in large part disappeared when they realized his needs matched their own.

"Be you makin' for an inn then?" A couple heads perked up in the group. "Wer 'eaded for one right now, com'long with us."

The girl, Corbie, who had squatted down and was tracing some invisible line on the ground looked up at Nickal, her eyes sharp and curious, but she said nothing.

"Come with us, Stranger" encouraged Nickal, waving Mika along as he turned his pack of teens towards a wide street named Lision Lane.

The motley group entered the plaza quickly, weaving quickly, if slightly inefficiently, though the teaming masses that attempted to cross the plaza in a similar way. Ike, to small to do much more than get caught in people's legs moved in the clear space as Rob simply plowed his way through or around groups of people. He could just barely here Tim saying to Tom that he'd seen "the other bunch". Tom pointed to the opening to Beggar's lane. Ike, too small to be of any use had no idea what they were doing and pointed to the road for Rob as well. As they turned in their lopsided formation some errant person bumped heavily into Rob and then Ike as he moved around the larger child.

Mithral Wolf/Dog Mix

Tavis could do nothing but stay where he was, watching with a minimal amount of interest as the pack of boys made their way through the crowds of people. The wolf-dog had been slightly nervous as they had walked through the harbor, but when they turned away from the water he relaxed a bit. He then realized that he was still pretty damp, though the small fire had given off enough warmth to dry him a bit. Tavis wondered if the boy that was carrying him was bother by the wet dog in his arms. His eyes strayed toward the boys face, but he was focused forward and Tavis turned his attention back in that direction.

They weaved through the crowds of people almost effortlessly until they reached the open market place. People stood in clumps and groups here and didn't bother to watch where they were walking. He wondered how they moved so swiftly through the press of people and could see a few of them struggling to keep from bumping into others as they went. Curiously Tavis looked back over the bigger boys shoulder to see Ike following along in the clear path that they had created. His ears perked up as he watched the little one taking nearly trotting to keep up with the others.

When someone bumped into the boy that was carrying him Tavis turned his head back, cowering back a bit and cradling his injuries. He had experienced too much pain at the hands of these bigger humans today, and his lungs still burned when he breathed at times from the water that had nearly killed him. When the human had passed Tavis looked back at Ike once more, the boy stumbled a bit from being bumped into, but appeared to be alright. Ike had regained his trot and was keeping up when Tavis turned back toward the front to see the others heading to another street.

The chuckling grated on Mika, he was used to it but it still hurt. He nodded slowly at the lead males suggestion noting that he hadn't laughed with the others, but still cautiously watched him and the rest. The female caught his eye however, crouched near the ground, drawing. He turned enough to take a grip on Softly's reigns, his eyes flicking warily from her to the pack's leader. With his fingers wrapped firmly in the reigns he turned Softly to follow the lead of the pack, he paused near the female and slowly turned his head to look at her.

His eyes trailed after very slowly, more worried about the youths trying to show dominance than anything else.  His eyes sought hers then looked down to the line and back to her with a quizzical frown creasing his forehead like the wrinkles on an old pair of boots. She had obviously seen her own share of fights, none of which he imagined had been easy and she hadn't always been the victor. He didnt know what gang life was like, or growing up in a city having lived in a holding on the Aurora plains but it couldn't have been easy. He looked up quickly to see the direction the group was heading before looking back down to her and tilting his head in the direction the others were going. He took a few steps to follow them still watching her curiously.

Corbie eyed Mika thoughtfully for several long blinks before saying anything. "Don't mind Nickal. He's steady." Her enunciation is clearer and more readily understood than her comrades, and despite the scars, she may have once been pretty.

She followed the direction his head tilted, and shrugged. "Sure. The inn's a little dingy, but it's quiet." She got up and walked next to the Centoraurian as they headed down Lision Lane, the others giving her a respectfully wide berth, as if she commanded all the space within two peds of her person.

"So you're new here, eh? Planning to stay long?" Even as she directed her questions at Mika, her eyes darted from place to place, and her nose twitched, absorbing sights and smells in a more attuned fashion than her comrades, whose eyes and other senses seemed to be drawn more to things of obvious interest rather than actively seeking anything out.
