Xaod stood beside Nasty, awaiting impatiently the return of the elven mage. He was eager to return to his belongings and prepare for this quest. Not paying attention to the events around him, Xaod was awakened from his thoughts as Rheine came to stand in front of the throne as the bald, vulture like elf spoke.

Looking up at the ugly creature, the assassain straightened and awaited a long and boring speech. Sighing, Xaod muttered to Nasty out the side of his mouth: "Here we go again, another ridiculous lecture. At least soon we'll be able to leave this cursed madhouse, eh?"

If you will all move to stand before the throne, your Duke will address his servants.

The Ghost almost burst out with laughter for the first time in nearly a century. This...wretch...actually had the audacity to consider himself higher than The Ghost merely because he was some snivelling duke's pet. However, The Ghost wanted that sword. So he decided to play along with the whelp's little bald elf, and stood before Guoranala.

As soon as he had the sword, The Duke, and this weak fool of a slave, would both be in for a very large amount of pain.

I am the Darkness between the stars.
I am the Silence between whispers.
I am there in your darkest of dreams.
I am The Ghost, and you cannot escape.

Darién gives little resistance against the guards who hold him, He sees the duke and knows that this long evening of angered criminals with a quest waiting for them, would finally come to a conclusion.

The Duke, about to give a final speech, And the arrogant darkmage already tasted a little something of that yet to come. One full hit was enough for now, He would get true payback soon enough…

Darién was calmed from the moment he had wanted to strike his enemy, And he was calm now as the duke was about to come forward and give his final speech.

The pains still surged trough his body from the smacking against the wall.

Solen enters the room, a beatific smile upon his face.  The two guards from the door of the other room flank him, dropping back to stand behind and to either side of the throne as he seats himself.  His blue eyes sparkle down on the five from his blonde head.  "So," he begins.  "I believe I have managed to reach an agreement with each of you," he says, his smile referencing the irony in his words.  "In the morning, at firstflame, a servant will rouse you from your beds.  You will be expected half an hour later in the courtyard at the front of my estate - the footmen in the corridors will point the way to you.  You will be given mounts, with which will be provisions for the journey, including enough gold that you might travel comfortably well beyond Chondra.  You are to return here if you require more, athough that is an eventuality which I do not anticipate.  You might also bear in mind that I would be displeased if I were to find you had squandered my money.

"You will now be shown to rooms which have been made ready for you.  All the belongings which were taken from you at the time of your arrest will be waiting for you there.  I would be pleased if you would wait until the morning to try to kill one another - to that effect, all your rooms are in quite different parts of the manor.  The Quest for the Sword will begin at dawn,"
he says in a voice full of portent.  Then his smile returns as he continues - "You will have plenty of time to try to kill one another then."  He stands, and makes a grand gesture to the guards at the end of the room, who set about unlocking the door. "Rest well, adventurers.  May your night be calm as it can be, for the morning will bring the beginning of a profound and momentous journey."  As the Duke finishes, the doors swing open.  Five footmen liveried in the blue and silver of Marcogg stand beyond the doors, waiting to escort the questers to their rooms for the night.

Darién observed the man carefully,… He was a manipulator and the strange feeling creeped over him that this was rather a test, A morbid race against one another. The most danger oust criminals, possibly in the whole district, played out for a valuable item. Darién found it entertaining as it was, Yet it would be even more entertaining for those nobles…
A race, for who would bring the sword back first. When I’ve dealt with that magician I will let those others murder themselves, Let the ladies do the research and take the sword back myself. Yet of course others would have similar thoughts, It was only when and how they would betray one another. It would be a challenge for everyone of them…

Darién had little to say, only nodded in agreement and was good to go and finally leave the room.

Xaod listened only distantly to Solen's speech. His mind was on other matters. This was going to be a harrowing test for them all. Not only would there probably be dangers on the way, but the party itself was a threat to all it included.

Already, several of the party had shown hostility, Xaod being the first one himself with Zavosh. The Ghost was the only one left that, so far, had proven a problem to Xaod. The assassain had no intention of keeping the sword for himself, he needed to return it in order to receive his revenge, revenge he thought he had already obtained.

He needed to keep the others alive as long as possible, he would need them in order to complete his quest. Besides, the more people in the party, the less concentration will be on him alone. Let the rest fight amongst themselves.

Looking back to Nasty, Xaod smiled. She was the only one here that did not come off as a fool, he hoped that she survived this quest. Inclining his head to her, Xaod bid her good night. "Rest well, Nasty. I wouldn't want you to fall behind, that'd leave me with these insolent fools." Turning on his heel, the assassain strode towards the guards, glaring at them with his single eye and awaiting one of them to lead him to his room.

As the last of the adventurers leave, the servants, guards and musicians relax - all, that is, apart from one.  Gregan, the whistle-player in the band stays tense and angry, growling quietly to the other players while they wait to be dismissed:  "That pale elf had better look out.  I may not be the strongest man, but I have friends.  He will pay for tonight."
