Ta'las smiles as he listens to Terra and Talia speak, and he moves aside a little to allow them speak.  It is obvious from their candor they are good friends.

"I am Ta'las," he says when Terra addresses him.  He looks between the two friends.  "Son of An'thavin, of the Shen' Khasi.  You are right, Talia, I am from Uderza, far north and west of the lands of the Shen' Siuu.  And it is a pleasure to meet both of you," he adds with a small nod of his head.

Expecting them to be curious of his arrival, he continues.  "I was bidden to find you here, in the Quallian, amongst the elves by my mother-sister, a priestess of Baveras.  She showed me an image of you and this city in a water mirror, and told me that perhaps I could be of help to you."

He smiles.  "It is Terra and Capher whom you should give thanks to.  It was Terra that found us wandering the lands south of the elven forest, and Capher whose magic brought you from your sleep."  Then he winks, "I am surprised my stories did not keep you from waking."

The Shendar leans back, resting his hands on his knees.  "The pair of you have put yourself into an interesting situation here, and I cannot help but wonder what it is that brings you to these lands.  Whatever that reason is, I believe it why I was sent."

Garrek's response is to look at the old man in question, the words, "The Heart?" escaping him before he realizes the old man has more than just vague intuition into whatever the gemstone is, now known as The Heart. He nods, and says softly, yet aloud, "It is well."

He thinks for a moment before responding, "I doubt my name will be of much importance to you or your friends. Your presence here, I understand, is only passing; what use to burden each other with pointless memories when our minds should be clear for so much else? That aside," Garrek extends toward the man a cup of hot Kao-Kao with a considerable amount of cream in his left, and his right to help the old man up. "Need I assist you in reaching your friends, Capher?"

Garrek has been listening, naturally, but makes no note. That Aueniteri is with them is obvious; and when she returns from whatever errand must have detained her, thing will become even more amusing. This thought never reaches his face, but he simply smiles in a friendly manner at Capher, awaiting the old man's response.

Of course I have nothing against you personally, but I'm afraid I've told you more than is safe...

Many thoughts are swirling in Talias head - too much information at the same time keeps her mind racing. Ta‘las was sent by a Baveras‘ Aid to help her? She couldn‘t be this important that the gods themselves interfered? But at the same time the heart is lost? Koldar did look for her and the heart, but didn‘t find her? Her heart makes a jump - would she ever see him again. She hadn‘t thought of that possibility when leaving Chylikis on her own - would she have done it nevertheless? Sorrow fills her heart with the thought, that he might be lost for her for ever, but then hope comes back immediately as well - didn‘t Capher come back - and that had been less likely. And Teri seems to be safe as well. But she hasn‘t asked yet, what happened to Avour. Her thoughts are turning back to Ta‘las, still wondering, why he is here.

„Ta‘las, I know Uderza, I travelled a lot in the Shendar Lands, it might well be, that we met each other in Rah‘mat some time, not knowing that our path would meet in the future. But your question, what brought us in this ‚interesting situation‘, as you called it“ and she grins at him  saying these words „is not easy to answer. Maybe Terra can tell it to you, but Capher surely knows more than we all do. But I don‘t know, what he wants to tell you. What are you planning to do now, that what you were told to do is done, Ta‘las? “And turning to Terra, she asks her: „Terra, where is Capher?“

Terra listens intently to Ta’las and Talia as they discuss their origins, she can not remember Talia mentioning her origins in such detail, but Terra figures it must simply been because one must know the land to know where these places are. Terra decides that any explanation of their journey is best left till Capher is present and responds to Talia’s question first.

“I am not sure, I succumbed to the injury is suffered in Chylikis short after returning here, I really do not remember much of what happened after we returned. I would guess because we were injured we were left to rest here, and Capher may be sleeping somewhere else.”

Turning to Ta’las, Terra answers his question simply.

“Anything to do with our journey is likely best left till Capher is present. He seems to know a lot more than we do, and my memory of things has not yet totally cleared and I fear with the nature of my injury some memory may not return.”

Ta'las nods.  "Yes, we can wait for Capher.  He is sleeping in the room next to us, and though I would like to wake him to hear of your quest, I will leave him be."  Ta'las looks over at Talia.  "He spent a good deal of energy healing your injuries, and was exhausted when he was finished."

"As for what I intend, I would remain with all of you, if you will have me.  Capher and I have become friends.  Though I sometimes find the old man to be a bit odd, I find him to be a fine travelling companion."

Ta'las looks back at Terra.  "I noticed you seemed out of balance when we first met in the forest.  Perhaps Capher can also help you once you've rested."  Then softly, he adds, "It is sad to see one so young with such wounds.  I hope one day you are able to live free of them."

Then the Shendar's stomach rumbles.  "I am sorry ladies, but I must eat or we will not hear the end of it."  He strides to the doorway to seek out one of the elves.

Talia chuckles, following with her eyes the leaving Ta'las.

"Terra, what do you think, should we tell Ta'las that Capher is a shapeshifter ot let him find out by himself?  And yes, something to eat would not be bad, I think I haven't anything for centuries!"

Fearing that her still somewhat stiff legs would not allow her to stand if she kneeled where she was any longer Terra stands and watches as Ta’las departs to find something to eat, then turns back to Talia’s question.

“I would think if Capher wants him to know he will tell Ta’las himself. I am not sure about you but if I could change my shape at will I would be hesitant to tell everyone I met. Not everyone would react as well to it as we have, and I am sure there is more to Capher himself he has not yet told us.”

Terra shifts her weight and stretches lightly trying to go her limbs to loosen up from her long sleep.

“I am sorry I do not have more news of Koldar. I still hope we will meet up later, and though you have not yet asked, I believe Avour is safe. We left her with the hermit, I am sure that if trouble were to come for her she can take care of herself in the woods, I made the hermit promise to teach Avour other means of healing other than her blood and made it quite clear that his fate would be grim if I learned that he mistreated here.”

„Oh, that at least is good news! But I miss her dearly. She sighs deeply.“I don‘t know, what I would have done back in Chylikis, if I had known, that I would loose so many good friends, she was like a daughter to me, or a little sister.“

Tears are coming to her eyes, as she feels the sudden loss of both, Avour, the little sister and Koldar, with whom she had fallen in love, though she had never admitted it, not even to herself. But she suppresses them - it is not the time to cry now.

Talia closes her eyes for a moment to regain her posture, then reopening them again, she looks at Terra with a sad smile.

“Terra, we two are the only ones who stayed together on this long journey for most of the time - apart form the last few weeks. Thank you for being my true companion for so long. Though we have Capher back now - it would make me feel lonely, if you would vanish as well, despite a couple of new friends around.“

After few seconds, she adds with a totally different, dry  tone:

“I‘m hungry - didn‘t Ta‘las want to fetch something to eat?“

Finally feeling the stiffness of her long sleep stretched from her limbs Terra takes a seat on the stool Ta’las had once occupied.

“I too care greatly for her that is why I decided it was best for her to say behind. The journey has become too dangerous, and she looks to us too much to decide to use her blood to heal up if we are injured. The hermit will teach her alternatives to spilling her own blood, and will teach her to make the choice of using her blood on her own. It was never a choice we should have been making for her. Perhaps when this is all over we can go visit her.”

Terra simply nods at Talia’s thanks for her companionship.

“I to care greatly for your companionship Talia, there are few that I would risk such great agony as I have endure, and even bringing the living death upon myself for, I am honored to say that you are one of them.”

At Talia’s mention of being hungry Terra gets up and retrieve her pack that had been placed by her bed. Sitting once again on the stool Terra rummages through her pack, finally retrieving a small bundle containing some strips of dried meat and setting her pack down on the floor.

“As am I, I have not eaten well in the last few days. I have some dried meat, it’s not a lot but it will stay our hunger till Ta’las returns. I am sure he will bring something for us to.”

Opening the bundle Terra takes a piece and holds the open bundle out in offering so that Talia can take a piece if she likes.

“Thank you Terra, I‘ll take some, till our breakfast arrives..“

But when Talia tries to eat it, a soft furred head is coming from behind her, snatching it out of her hand.

“SWING!“ Talia calls out, but then she starts laughing.

“It‘s alright,Terra, maybe I should not start with meat after having had any substantial things for some time.I will wait till Ta‘las comes back. Thanks  anyway! “

Terra watches as Swing snatches the strip of dried meat from Talia’s hand, then nods in agreement that meat may not be to agreeable with Talia’s stomach after likely not eating in days. She looks suddenly to Talia as if just remembering something, by her movements it was obviously something she thought Talia should know, but it does not seem urgent.

“Your sword is missing as well. I still can’t recall where or how but I just have the vague recollection of it being taken, or simply being missing, I am not certain.”

Terra tears off a piece of the dried meat as she waits for Talia’s possible response.

“My sword!“Talia calls out! But then she suddenly remembers, that the demon wanted the heart, and that she didn‘t want to give it to him.

“Terra, did you say, just a few minutes ago, that the heart is lost? I think I just overheard it, for I didn‘t want to be it true. The sword is not so important as the heart, though I will miss it greatly as well. Did you find it - it should be at the place, where we fled the demon, Teri and me? But what will happen, if the heart is lost.? Did the demon get it?“

All the joy of being alive again has vanished, reality has caught up to early. Talia lies back again, not knowing what to think now of their whole situation - and their fate.

Terra can only nod in confirmation that the Heart was lost, and waits for Talia to finish her jumble of questions, before starting at the beginning where her memory was clearer.

“I did find your sword and your mouse, but I lost the sword while we were trying to fight off the demon.”

Pausing for a moment Terra tries to piece together her fragmented and hazy memories of the fight.

“After we saw you fall, Hajarian and I charged in at the demon in elfs  form, and I was knocked from Coores back. I knew I could not continue to fight and saw you laying stricken in the clearing, so I rushed to your side and grabbed the Heart. The demon cane for me though…”

She absently rubs where her belt would normally encircle her waist as she tries with ever increasing difficulty to piece together her memories.

“The demon attack me with a stream of fire, not how it attacked you but more… carefully. The Heart fell, I tried to grab it and escape some how, but it was snatched away by a small hand. I… I think I chased a child into the woods… Did he have the Heart?”

It is clear that the gaps in Terra’s memory were getting larger and leaving more uncertainty between them.

“I remember the child, Hajarian, heat, then no heat, saying something… I’m sorry I can’t tell you anything more useful. I don’t think the demon got the Heart, not directly anyway.”

Terra lifts her Moon Blade and lays it across her lap resting her hand gently on it, all in a manner that would vaguely resemble a child holding a cherished blanket close for comfort.

Talia sits up again, remaining silent though for quite a while. But then she lays her hand on Terra‘s knee:

„Don‘t be worried, Terra, I think that in the end, all will turn out well, though we may have to suffer till we are there, and we may well encounter losses.“ She stops speaking, thinking at Avour - and again Koldar. With a deep sigh, she continues. „But I am confident, that we will succeed and that we will meet other people who will be our friends, and whom we might have not met without our quest. And now, where is Ta‘las with something to eat? If I don‘t get some food giving me energy, I will never be able to leave this bed!“ And she smiles bravely at Terra.

Terra seems to take comfort in Talia’s touch, words and her brave smile. Even being a fairly mature woman there is times when her action are little more than those of an uncertain child growing up glazed over with adult bearing. After tearing off another piece of dried meat to try and appease her empty stomach, Terra nods and looks the way Ta’las had gone as she speaks.

“I guess it is true that not every battle in a war is won. With every lost battle something else is lost if only till it’s taken back. What matters is not what is lost in the war but that it is won.”

Terra pauses for a brief moment.

“I do not believe we have lost our war yet, and until we have there is still hope for victory.”

Terra turns back and looks at the small bundle of dried meat, and decides not to upset her stomach any more by continuing to eat it. Talia was of course wise of her age, and such things were not best eaten when one has not eaten well for a time.

"I hope Ta'las returns soon. I can't continue to eat this dried meat if I am to keep anything else down. Do you think Swing would like more?"
