Lightthrive is not far and the group around Capher has advanced already quite a bit on their way to the vale of the brownies. Talia's mood is flying high. The Quallian is a wonderful forest and the elves there had been very friendly towards them, though they are normally living quite secluded from the rest of the world, not very fond of travellers. But riding on her aj again in a fairly open land and feeling the air carressing her face is lovely!

They owe the Ylfferhim a lot. They even presented them with a guide, though the path to the vale is easy to find with their description. Maybe they wanted to do Capher a favour who had asked for somebody to lead them. Or maybe they would need this strange guy later - for strange he was. Or he is the one who is send by Seyella instead of Jeheraid? For Morcaanan is not longer with them. Talia sighs when thinking at this noble looking man, well, not his clothes, more his way to move or act.. She hasn't had enough time to get to know him closer. ...

Then her gaze goes back to Zdoth Natterath  - or what was his name?. He is as short as an Eyelian, has a similar skin tone, but there the similarity ends. If she has thought Jeheraid looked strange being from Nybelmar, then this guy looks even stranger. Not a single hair on the body, well, on the visible parts, she corrects herself. His bald bronzed head is shining in the early morning sun. If Talia admits it to herself, he is not looking very trustworthy... the scar in his face, running down one cheek from between his face to a ear, his notched ear and crocked nose - then these deep black eyes. If not recommended by the elves, she would have hesitated to employ him... She rides closer to him, trying to drag him into a conversation.

„Mr Natterath, could you please tell me something about your homeland? I heard you are from a nomadic tribe as I am. Where exactly do you come from? How is it there?“

“Well, Ms. Sturmwind, there is not much I have to say about my homeland.  I believe it is called the ‘Naezshan Zhunith thirstlands’.  It has been a long time since I have been there.  A very long time.  The days are hot, the nights are cold, food is scarce, but there is always enough.”  Zdoth said quietly, his face was expressionless.  That seemed like it was enough to answer the question so Zdoth said no more.  He silently observed his new companions, still not sure if he could trust them, but he would not say anything about it.

Like Talia, Ta'las will miss the elven forest, but he is also happy to be travelling again.  The Shendar looks at the land around him, still feeling the dampness in the air that clung to the lands north of Chylikis, but the air is a little cooler.

He pats his Aj'nuvic's shoulder.  "See, I told you we would be away soon enough."  He chuckles when Desert Rose snorts, knowing that his animal would prefer to move at a much faster pace.

He notices his Shendar-sister move closer to their guide and start a conversation with Zdoth.  The man has been quiet, but Ta'las sees nothing unusual in that - he has just joined their company and is among strangers.  He would like to move closer to the two, but he is near the back of their group.

Ta'las looks back over his shoulder at the Quallian, now just a line of trees barely visible in the distance.  As he does, he thinks he catches movement just beyond the rise of a rocky hill.  He keeps his gaze on the spot for a minute longer, but sees nothing.

The Shendar shakes his head and looks back to the front of their company.

Capher rode silently he had not noticed but he was the last one.  The new comer-Zdoth took the lead as they left the Quallian forest and the elves that protected and were protected by it.  The new comer was from Nyblemar and though Capher had flown over all of Cealereth, the lands of Nyblemar he never touched down upon.  He did not know why, it was just one of those things.  Now as watched Zdoth and Talia talk amongst themselves he wished he had; even it was just to know what kind of people they were.

Terra and Teri rode in front of him and Ta'las was just a bit ahead of them.  They all seemed to be thinking as they were silent, like he.  Capher began to sort through all that had been told to him and his companions.  Capher thought, maybe it is time for me to just follow until the time is right.

Ta'las, who is just behind Talia and Z'doth overhears their guide's description of his homeland.  The Shendar is not surprised, as Z'doth has the complexion similar to many from his own home.  The man is still uncertain about the group, which is understandable.

Ta'las nudges his mount forward and nods at Z'doth.

"Z'doth, I hope you do not mind my intrusion, but your homeland sounds much like the Rahaz-Dath, where Talia and I are from.    Have you heard of our homeland?"

Zdoth looked over at Talas and said, “I am afraid I am not familiar with your homeland, though if it is similar to mine, I would certainly like to see it.” Zdoth sounded thoroughly interested.  With that, Zdoth walked along quietly, thinking to himself.

Terra rides along silently thinking of the path she had chosen. The path to peace for herself will lead her through terrible pain, and she wonders and worries idley if she is strong enough even with all her new friends to cling to her sanity, or have it torn away leaving her in a state worse than death. Finally she presses the thoughts from her mind, smiles a small smile and takes in a deep relaxing breath.

"It was nice, but its just another place to me."

Ta’las sighs as he recalls his home.  “It is a beautiful place, Z’doth, though it is dangerous and has claimed many lives of those not trained to read its rippling sands.  The desert covers much of the the Santharian province of Truban and part of Brendolan, the southernmost part of Sarvonia.  To the east and south of the Rahaz-Dath lies the coastline of the Burning Sea, and on the west the Aetryam Sea.  It is possible to find some respite from Injera’s hammer around the Cloud Forest near Varcopas, the peninsula near Thalambath, or the plain around the city of Uderza.”

Ta’las looks over at Z’doth and grins.  “Uderza is where I grew up.  It is near one of the most wondrous places I have been, including the forest of our recent hosts in the Quallian.  Just south of Uderza is a place called the Oasis of Nirmenith, where the temple of Baveras lies in the middle of a lake.  Tall mountains rise up on all sides around the lake, creating a small valley filled with trees and flowers of all types.  It is most beautiful at night, when Grothar paints the night sky with stars and the moon’s light reflects off the lake.”

He looks away wistfully as he remembers his home.

Capher decided he had been lost in his thoughts long enough and decided to ride up to Terra and Teri.  He nudged his horse along until it became between the two.  He smiled at the two ladies.  "Well ladies it seems we go on?  Teri have you ever been to the "Vale?" He asked.  Hoping the question would take her mind off of Morcaanan.  He had hoped that the young man that seemed to sweep the young elven maiden off her horse, would have come along; but it seemed like he had another path to follow, one which, at the time, did not include her.  He felt for her.

As he waited for her reply he turned to Terra. "Lady Artermos, how are you feeling?  Better, I hope.  You come from a long line of warriors. Did you know that?" He asked.

Zdoth listened to every word Talas said, nodding to every point he liked. “I would like to see this place.”  Zdoth smiled, the first smile the group had seen from him.  These people are friendly, they aren’t affected by how I look, or don’t seem to be at least.  Still, we shall see.  Zdoth looked up at Talas and said, “My desert has no oasis, nor your forests, but there are simple beauties.  The fresh bloom of flowers after a rare rain, or the sight of the Holy Caves, I miss my home…that is for certain, but I do not know how much I want to be back.”  Zdoth trailed off, thinking about the means in which he left the first time.  There was no more anger towards his father, and he hoped his tribe, should they meet over the desert, would see, and understand that.

"When we are finished with this," Ta'las starts, "I will take you to my home.  And perhaps if you change your mind about visiting your home, we can travel there too."

Just then, Desert Rose warbles loudly.  Ta'las frowns at his Aj'nuvic and clicks his tongue three times and taps Desert Rose's left flank.  "That is enough, you are interrupting our conversation."  His Aj'nuvic snorts again, this time more quietly, but Ta'las ignores him.

"I am sorry, Z'doth.  Desert Rose is impatient and wishes to run."  The Shendar pauses a moment to reflect on what Z'doth had just told him.  "It sounds like you have misgivings about returning home.  It is so often those whom you care for most - friends and family - who are also most difficult to deal with, isn't it?"

'Teri shrugs lightly, not really in the present. "I've never seen it, although I've been fairly close at times. It's not a commonly visited place for one who travels alone."

Capher chuckled lightly, "For one who seems like she is scared of her own shadow, yet travels alone, is an unusual paradox, do you not think so, Teri?" Capher asked.  "Well at least you have friends who are around you now." He murmured.

Her brow furrows lightly, and she turns to Capher, looking slightly confused, slightly concerned."Scared of...?" She gives a light, voiceless sigh."My brother is ruthless, Capher, but I do know how to move from one place to another, as long as I know where I am headed."

At his last comment, her shoulders droop slightly, and she looks down and turns to no longer face him. "Yes," she says, slightly more than a whisper, "There are friends. Great ones."

So she has some fire in her belly, after all.  But she is frightened of her brother.  I wonder...

"Teri. please forgive me if I misunderstood your comments about 'one traveling alone' I had thought you meant yourself, not just a single traveler.  I, myself, have not visited the Vale in...well lets say it has been a long time.   If you do not mind me asking, was this animosity between you and your brother always there, or has it just recently cropped up?  And what caused it?  Maybe if we can discover why your brother chose to go the way he has gone, maybe we can help him. If you understand what I am trying to say?"

Capher sometimes put his nose where it should not belong, but the only way he could discern human behavior was to ask questions, besides he had not come across a brother and sister who seem to lead such different lives. One follows Coor's path, the other tries to follow Ava's. I wonder if Keekoo and Greybark still live? Capher thought as they continued on in their journey to the Vale.

Capher.
