Niccoli shouldered his pack, and sallied along the docks, meandering where he would. The corracle was useful for everything excepting traveling through cities. It was big, it was cumbersome and a liability when not being used as a means of travel. He checked his weapons and very quickly decided that it would be a good idea to find a berth. He could stay in the town a few days while looking for work, he could set out on his own along the river from the docks or he could find a job now and leave as soon as possible. The later would be to his preference.

"Saaaay" drawled a voice behind the newcomer. "Saaaaaay, Elf. You, White Hair."
A dirty and rather smelly figure shambled up to Niccoli, sniffing and wheezing at the same time, which produced a rather disturbing 'sni-i-i-hhkk' sound in his nose.

"Cahm in tod-ay, didya?" He punctuated the question with another 'sni-i-i-hhkk'. "Well", sni-i-i-hhkk, "Ah dunt 'now what your biseeness is, but you looks like ya, sni-i-ihhkk, needs a drunk. Ah mane, drank. Heva drink?"

The drunk sailor thrust a small cask under the elf's nose to demonstrate his intentions.

"Ah...no thanks. I've had naught to drink but ale for a fortnight, and my head is aching something fierce, I think I'll stay clear of those waters for a bit. " Niccoli began to continue walking down the dock.

The sailor grabbed the elf by the elbow. "Now now, dun't be roood like thet, sni-i-i-hhkk. Ught to be nicer to hospitable filks like may, you should." He glared at Niccoli with a malevolent expression.

"Aye, and ye should lay off the drink before it addles yer brain much more." Niccoli had his rapier. The expression on the man's face told Niccoli he wasn't likely to walk away from this, but he attemped to break away from the drunken sailor.

Niccoli swung one arm up, ducking as he did. The armblade ripped open, and then jammed half way. "Coor damnit!" Niccoli tried to avoid the flask of whatever it was as it sped towards his outstreched arm.

The drunk's aim and arm were both weak: the flask bounced harmlessly off of Niccoli's arm, and the sailor tottered backwards towards the edge of the dock.
With a vile oath and still clutching at the elf's arm to avoid his impending doom, the drunken sailor toppled back and into the water, disappearing with a short gurgle beneath the brine.

Niccoli cursed in Styrash, not a common thing to do, but just as decent an oath as it's tharian equivelent as he was dragged in after the water. The phrase translated roughly as "A blight upon drunkeness-" before Niccoli's head was occupied with things other than poor language, being trying to not be in the water.

More than one sailor had heard all the swearing and splashing about near the docks and had come to investigate the ruckus.

Two of them soon had a rope tossed out to Niccoli and were dragging him back the safety of the woodwork, but the drunken sailor was nowhere to be seen.

"'twas Clapper" said a sailor. "I saw him, cask and all."

While Niccoli was given a moment or two to recover, a small boat was launched to where Clapper had fallen in, but no sign of the man was seen - he had disappeared beneath the surface, for the moment...

"Stupid idiot of a-" Niccoli shoot his hair a little, shooting tiny drops of water about. The water proof canvas of the colapsed coracle seemed to have safe guarded his things against against the water. "mé'krói, drunk as a post, probably drowned by now..." Niccoli gave himself another half shake.

"Drunk or not, Clapper was a decent swimmer" someone said, as the launch was pulled to.

"Aye" said an older sailor, casting a baleful eye at Niccoli. "Look 'ere, there'll be questions, bestch ya' come with us." He wrapped a calloused hand around the elf's arm and hauled him non-too gently to his feet; another sailor followed suit, and they escorted Niccoli along the docks, ignoring any protests made by either the elf or other sailors.

"Earl, e'd choo say 'ats a dog on 'at 'ere anch'r?"

"Why yes Ike I'd say it is..."

" 'ell Earl what e'd choo t'ink a dog 's doin' up on 'at 'ere anch'r?"

"Not swimming Ike."

"Choo t'ink we oughter get 'at 'ere dog offa the anch'r Earl?"

"I reckon we should Ike."

The first sailor, Ike grabbed one of the long hooks and attempted to push the dog off of the anchor with the rounded end, to no avail.

"Now you give that here Ike, you're ain't supposed to be poking the damn thing. It's a hook!"

The second sailor, Earl, gave the hook a quick flick and deftly wrapped it around the dog, and gave a forceful tug, leading to the dog's fortunate release from the anchor chain, and his unfortunate fall backwards onto the dock as the dog entered the water with a slight splash, barely audible over the general business of the docks.

Mithral Wolf/Dog Mix

Tavis stopped his barking as the faces of two people appeared above him. They appeared to be talking while he attempted to keep his head above water. He began howling again, trying to get their attention once more, struggling harder to keep above water while he paws were stuck in the chain. When one of the men began poking him something he snarled at the man, and summoned some energy to snap at the thing.

The jabbing stopped then and the other took hold of the thing, wrapping the hooked end around his midsection, the tip of the hood scratching along the left side of his ribs. Tavis howled in pain and snarled at the man once more before he felt himself being jerked upward His back paw came lose while he forepaw was jerked slightly before coming free. He tumbled backward into the water once more, causing a small splash.

He felling into the depths of the river again, water covering his head once more. Panic once more took control of him and he struggled feebly to reach the surface again. Grey and white snout burst through the surface and he opened his jaws wide to take in as much air as possible. The wolf sputtered and weakly paddled with one paw, his right paw curled up to his chest now. Left paw attempted to steady him against another anchor chain as the current pulled him past. His head ducked back under the water and he struggled with the remaining strength to surface again. As soon as he could see the open sky and docks around him, Tavis took a deep breath, letting out a strangled howl. As the current pulled him into another anchor chain, he went under again. Three paws moved slowly, the rest of his energy put into the finally struggle to the surface.

Fishing and ear scratching.
The two reasons men were given hands.

"Cast off!"
The heavy ropes lashing the small cog to the docks were loosed. One of them fell into the water around the small dog floating lightly on the water as the dog surfaced. The hands procceded to pull it, and the dog aboard, throwing the later back on to the docks as they made out down the river.
