After a good span of time, Scael opens his eyes. A puzzled look comes on his face, turning into a grimace of pain as he sits up.

"Aaghg. Etherus and his three fisted cat what did I drink?", he says holding his head. "Tastes like something an ogre would brew, and only a mullog could enjoy."

Looking around carefully, he notices Kelancy. "You! What is this place and where are the jakes?"

Oh, bother, the nobleman’s up and I still haven’t gotten any useful information from this tortured beggar!, Kelancey thinks inwardly.  Touching his present ward's hand, he says, “I hear our recent arrival has awoken from his torpor.  Will you excuse me, kind fellow, so that I might see to his needs?  I do hope you will keep our conversation in confidence, as I plan to maintain complete secrecy about anything that transpires between us.  I will return as soon as time allows.”  He rises from the mat he’s been seated on and turns to face his noble guest.  He draws in his breath to appear proud and competent for the gentleman, and, quickly buttoning his coat and tugging his lapels flat, he approaches Scael’s cot.

Kelancey eyes his face, discerning the oiled goatee and trimmed moustache, as well as the glint of cleverness in this man’s countenance.  “Dear sir, I bid you welcome to this house of healing.  The sanctum of Seyella is yours to enjoy.  I prithee, gentle sir, please keep the reverent silence befitting this holy house, as there are many people interned here who possess fragile spirits and might become frightened by startling noises.”  Shudders well up in the pit of Kelancey’s stomach, as he reflects, Did I just publicly chastise a nobleman?  In front of all these priestesses?

Kelancey continues, “Honored guest, please excuse my rude and undeserved reception.  Allow me to introduce myself.  Caein Kelancey, your servant of Nehtor, at your disposal.  Our facilities are located outside, just behind this room.  Here, I shall direct you there, if you wish.”

"Caein, to be utterly frank, I'm desperate enough to forgive just about anything to the one who shows me to your 'Facilities'. Lead on..."

With that, Scael follows Caein out the back, unobtrusively checking about his person to see if any of his earnings have been compromised.

So, the purse is gone. Looks as if the bait worked, as everything else seems to be in order. Now...what happened. I was in camp.....bandits?...hired thugs from someone I've cuckholded? Did they take my purse, or did this Caein? He did seem a bit nervous addressing me..straightened his robes....blanched as he shushed me as well...hmmm..guilty conscious or afraid of confrontation?....let's find out....

Watching Kelancey closely, Scael launches a tirade of questions. "Caein, could you be so kind as to explain exactly how I came to the House of Seyella? Do I look like a pauper? No? Then why have I been placed with them? Also, do be a good man and tell me where my coinpurse is."

Scael’s harangue catches Kelancey unprepared.  “Oh, well, um, I did not think that you would mind if we mended your, uh, wounds in the charity wing,” he babbles, feeling his intelligence drain out of him through his feet.  “What I mean is, I was not aware of your reputation, that is to say, your nobility, sir.”  His heart pounds so loud that he can barely hear his own words, drowning out any sensible response forming in his mind.  He chides himself, Keep walking, look ostentatious, be eloquent, and do not slouch!

Words pour out of Kelancey’s mouth without any thought guiding them.  “Pardon me, sir.  Here are the facilities.  Is there anything else I can do for you at the moment, or shall I wait for you inside?  The charity hospital, that is.  I mean to say, I will await your return inside, if you do not object, and then I will escort you to the main hospital.  If you please, sir.”

Scael notes that Kelancey's reaction. Well, that answers that. He's so witless about my being upset about my Station that he didn't even notice my calling him a thief. Alright. Time to win him to my side until I can figure out what's going on.

Scael beams a disarming smile at Kelancey. "My dear Caein, I jest with you. Be at ease, I am not angered. Please, await me inside, and we'll talk a while after I see to my..eh...my business here.", he says nodding towards the latrine.

Scael then turns around and begins said business, whistling a jaunty tune, unconcerned as to whether Kelancey has withdrawn or not.

Scael begins his business, which catches Kelancey by surprise.  “Oh, right, so I’ll be off then,” Kelancey says.  He walks around to the side entrance of the charity hospital and returns to Scael’s cot, rehearsing in his mind what he should say to this nobleman.  Thinking out loud, he mutters, "Let me see, what should I ask that would not be imprudent and yet still provide entertaining conversation?  Would I be prying if I asked what his business in Nyermersys is?  Yes, that would be out of the question.  Perhaps, he would like to know a little about the city itself…Eh, too droll.  I suppose it would be better if we start with a quick tour of the common areas of the main hospital, then have him register in the atrium with Abbess Janissa."

He glances about the charity ward, scanning for the man with his tongue out, and could not locate him.  He mulls this over in his head, thinking, ‘Swounds, he has likely absconded, just as I had feared he would!  I will have to look for him a little later on.

"That...", Scael says as he wanders back in, "...was glorious. Caein, I am truly famished. I suspect I've been indisposed for days, considering my camp was a few days out when I was attacked. I'm not quite sure how I got here. I could have sworn I'd killed all four of them, but judging from the hillock on the back of my head, I must have missed a fifth bandit. Regardless, I seem to be whole, hearty even. I just need some victuals. You wouldn't happen to have a manservant you could send out for a meal?"

Sitting down on his cot, Scael sees his pack that was left by the guards. Noticing that his carefully prepared knots have been cut open, he quickly sifts through the bag checking his equipment.

"Bah. It seems you cannot even trust unnamed beneficial rescuers to keep their hands out of your things. They've ruined half of my kit. Didn't even have the decency to reseal my jars after they poked and prodded....ah well."

Scael then pulls out what seems to be a sealed wooden cup with a lid on it. It rattles as he retrieves it, and Scael grins openly to hear it. "Knucklebones, Caein? We do have a while until your man fetches us food."

“Ah, well, your lordship,” Kelancey responds, his breathing somewhat slower and more relaxed than before, “speaking candidly, our city guards are excellent at their vigilance; unfortunately, sometimes their scruples are somewhat less than standard.  If I may help you to recover any of your lost or spoiled items, please indicate how I may assist you.”

He begins feebly searching nearby cots to show his interest in helping, then realizes the futility of this gesture.  He sits once more in front of Scael and says, “As regards your previous inquiry, sire, we have much more adequate accommodations for one of your station in the main hospital.  If it pleases you, I shall carry your things there this very moment.  We could have a look around the common areas, and then get you signed in with Head Abbess Janissa.  It won’t take but a scant few strides to accomplish.  And, coincidentally, I should enjoy throwing the bones with you at some point, however, I find I’m a little strapped for coin at the moment.”

Kelancey reaches for Scael’s rucksack, awaiting his approval.

"Money is immaterial, my good Caein. As you may have heard me mention, my coinpurse seems to have been absconded with, either by the bandit, or the guards, or somewhere in between. As such, knucklebones would be purely for entertainment.

A look of chagrin comes over Scael's face. "Come to mention it, I'm afraid that while a tour of your most robust facilities would be lovely, I doubt I have the wherewithall to finance a stay. This area may indeed be more to my current financial straits until I can send for funds. Do you truly feel that my recuperation will be extensive. While I must need trust your esteemed judgement in this matter, I do feel alright."

Kelancey’s face goes sallow when he recalls Scael’s financial predicament.  “Sire, I apologize, I had no intention of making your financial strain made public.  I cannot avow any results, but we could approach the head abbess and explain your unfortunate circumstances.  We could try and arrange a private room for you in the main hospital, courtesy of the abbey, until your economic status is put right again.”

He stares off in the distance for a moment, thinking, then continues, “Though I do not know what state of repair they are in presently, I believe the abbey maintains a few row houses along Mudroad for boarders who are down on their luck.  Perhaps, if you do not feel comfortable staying here at the hospital until your wound is mended, we might inquire if indeed the abbey has any such rooms available, and if you might occupy one during your stayin Nyermersys.”

Ah, most excellent. A place to call my own for a bit, as I establish myself here...and who knows, maybe the Abess will be concerned about the Hospital's reputation should anything happen, and would be willing to look the other way if I conveniently disappear. We shall see...we shall see.....

"Caein, I was by no means trying to make you feel guilty about my predicament. Frankly, I'm quite touched that you'd take the time out what is obviously your calling here to assist me. I'd concider it a personal favor for you to intercede with your Abbess on my behalf. 'Tis most generous of you."

With that, Scael closes up his pack, looks around for some sort of container, shrugs, and decides to wear it. "After you, good Healer."

Kelancey grins broadly and lets out a deep sigh of relief.  He feels a twinge of regret just a second later, thinking that his grin transmits a look of oafishness.   His beaming, toothy grin shifts into a more serious look of appreciation and contentment, and extends a hand to Scael.  “May I help with your pack?  No?  Alright, then.  Off we go!”

He points to the front door, and leads a malise-line path among the cots placed between them and the portal.  He stands tall, reminding himself once more to hold his shoulders up and not slouch.  Holding open the front door out to the street, Kelancey gestures to Scael, and says, “If you please, sir, this way to the great egress.”

He escorts Scael to the front door to the larger hospital building.  Caryatids, one on either side of the breezeway in front of the building, carved in an artistic semblance of Seyella, hold a stony pose with their hands clasped over their hearts and blindfolds over their eyes.  As you both approach this building, you take note that, where the smaller building of the hospital is unassuming and relatively unadorned, this wing of the hospital has touches of austere decoration, presumably to put one who enters at peace.

Passing through the portis of the reception hall, you may take note of the sconces of light green hanging over the windows, and the matching drapes tied back with forest green sashes to allow sunlight through the tall windows in front.  The tiled floor is of some polished and slightly reflective stone, possibly jade quartz, giving a soothing air to the room.  Cushioned chairs and sofas are positioned on either side of the atrium, where people may sit and rest as the priestesses assist them in registering with the hospital.

In the near corner along the right wall, a priestess dressed in an unassuming grey robe rises from the desk she has been seated behind.  She motions with one hand for you to approach, then returns to her supple leather chair.  She addresses you, “Good lightthrive to you, gentlemen.”  Then she nods to Scael and says, “Sir, I have not yet had the pleasure of your acquaintance.  I am Janissa.  What is the matter of which I might avail you?”

Alassiel, Glimwinkle and the red-haired woman arrive outside the hospital. Alassiel looks at the two structures. "Is this the hospital?" she asks. Without waiting for an answer, she makes for the smaller structure, assuming that it was the one which was more...friendly to the public, she thinks, as she notes the guards standing at the entrance of the larger structure.

She enters the structure... yep, this is the hospital. Then she stands at the entrance, unsure about what to do. She turns to Glimwinkle. "What is your business at the hospital?" she notices the things Glimwinkle has brought with her. "Are you about to make a sale? If so, I would be delighted to help out." Alassiel hopes the woman lets her help; she needs something useful to do. "I'll be careful."

Glimwinkle smiles broadly to you, and says, “I thought you’d never ask.”  She quickly lashes Haroll’s lead rope to a hitching post in front of the smaller hospital wing.  Then, to the red-haired woman, she asks, “Would you be kind enough to stay out here while Alassiel and I talk with the head abbess inside?  Thank you, fierce sentinel!”  She withdraws a glass jug of leeches from Haroll’s saddlebag and holds it lovingly in both arms.  “Alassiel, come with me!  You are much needed in here.”

Glimwinkle gleefully trots the short distance to the larger building of the hospital, and cautiously ascends the steps up to the front entrance, watching that the leeches’ water does not slosh too much.  She leans toward you and mutters from the side of her mouth, “You’ve nothing to fear here, resourceful bard.  These are the servants of Seyella, stern though protective matrons of this city.  They welcome friends and strangers alike, though don’t ever try to cheat them in a business transaction!  They are as shrewd as any Avennorian pearl trader, and more subtle in their craftiness, you’ll see.”

You both pass through the white-veined quartz portis, stepping into a wide, spacious atrium, apparently a reception area for those fortunate enough to afford such opulence.  The room is bustling with activity, with some priestesses leading those recently registered up to the private hospital beds upstairs, and others talking in low, soothing voices to family members who have just brought their loved ones into the hospital.

To your right, you see three figures seated around a dark wooden desk.  One of these you quickly surmise to be a priestess, an older woman of stately appearance and dignified grace seated in a cushiony leather chair.  Across from her, a man in noble garb, his goatee oiled though somewhat dusty and unkempt, and a coarse cloth bandage around his head, glibly talks with a cool air, gesturing with broad, deliberate strokes of his hands through the air.  Another man, dressed in a white hooded robe, listens intently beside the first man.

Glimwinkle’s smile brightens once more as she looks at you squarely and brings her face close to yours.  “Here’s the one I’ve told you about.  Abbess Janissa, the head matron of this hospital, is my business contact with the Hospital of Seyella.  It would seem she’s otherwise occupied just now, so how about we have a seat and wait for her to call us over?”

"Okay," Alassiel replies. She sits down on a nearby chair, places Fern on her lap and waits patiently...or at least, she tries to wait patiently. After five minutes, she starts to get a little restless. To occupy herself, she starts to compose a song, absentmindedly stroking Fern. Perhaps this song would be upbeat, and Fern could do her usual tricks by the side, and hold out a hat for the money later...

She is in such deep thought that she doesn't notice Abbess Janissa gesturing for them to come over until Glmwinkle gives her a little nudge. Alassiel's cheeks redden a little as she walks over to the head matron. She once again turns to Glimwinkle, waiting for her to introduce them.
